Early Theme Adopters: Spun

In our Early Theme Adopters series, we focus on bloggers creating great-looking sites with the most recent additions to our Theme Showcase. Today, let’s visit some of the sites that are already using Spun, a distinctive, minimalist theme.

Spun has only been around for a few short months, but you’ll encounter its unmistakeable look on thousands of sites, from personal blogs to photographers’ homepages.

As the three sites we feature today show, you can tweak Spun‘s signature design, which organizes posts’ featured images into tidy rows of circles, without losing the theme’s blend of elegance and playfulness.

dreams of designer, a fashion blog, is using Spun‘s out-of-the-box look to great effect. The blogger has opted to keep each post’s featured image black-and-white on the homepage (the theme’s default). Then, when readers hover over the images, they pop with color again — a nice touch for the blogger’s curated looks.

Apply Generously: Nature-Yoga-Life

apply generously spun theme
Stephanie Floerke, the blogger behind Apply Generously, has embarked on a yearlong quest to publish daily on yoga, health, and travel.

Spun‘s layout combines her colorful photos into a cheerful mosaic, while her focus on daily blogging is highlighted through the posts’ titles. They appear on top of the featured images, a customizing option built into the theme (if you’re using Spun, you can activate this option by going to the Customizer and checking the appropriate box in the Theme Options panel).

thehours

the hours spun themethehours is an innovative art project and group blog. The site brings together photographers from around the world, who each posts a single image every month, shot during the same time of day.

Spun was a brilliant choice for this project, as the bloggers shrewdly use the theme’s layout to feature clocks on their homepage, each one showing the time at which that month’s photos were taken. As for the photos themselves, the theme’s crisp design ensures that they look sharp across devices and screen sizes.

Stay tuned for more examples of sites using recently-added themes — and if there are any particular themes you’d like to see featured, feel free to leave us a comment.

I’ve been using the Spun theme for awhile now, and it’s just beautiful. The only feature that I’m not crazy about are the comments hidden but I get it. I love the same use of it for the footer area though. It really is quite beautiful and I’m very happy to see it being showcased in this manner today. Good job.

I just started a new side blog, http://goforgarbo.wordpress.com—about an hour ago?—and hadn’t realized that Spun was this new when I adopted it! Been having fun tweaking, and am definitely loving how sleek and hooking all those featured images are. Can’t wait to fill it all up with little circles!

I was blogging with an other theme for a while now and wasn’t quite happy about it but there was nothing I found beautiful and easy to use at the same time. I love Spun, adopted it today, and will use it from now on. Thanks for showing it, I didn’t even know, it existed!

I was using Spun for a while, but now I’ve switched to Autofocus because I think it suits my blog better. I enjoyed it, though!

I used Spun and I haven’t used anything since! It’s a subtle and understated theme that requires chunky content to give it justice! 🙂

I started using Spun a month or so ago for my blog at http://cupsandcoins.wordpress.com and I love it! I had no idea it was so new when I started using it, but it’s very beautifully and elegantly designed and complements the content rather than distracting from it.
