New Domains Available to Register

We’re excited to announce twelve new top-level domains — including .info, .biz, .mobi, .fm, and .tv — that WordPress.com users can register.

Starting today, we have twelve new top-level domains available for WordPress.com users to register. If you’re interested in buying a custom domain name for a new or existing site, you can now register domain names ending in .com.br, .net.br, .info, .biz, .mobi, .mx, .es, .nl, .be, .fm, .tv, and .in. These domains are available to all of our users — no matter where you are in the world.

With the addition of these new top-level domains, you now have a total of seventeen options to choose from when buying a domain name (including the existing domains .com, .net, .org, .me, and .co.).

If you’re an existing WordPress.com user, you can register one of these new domains for your site by going to Store  My Domains in your dashboard.

If you don’t have a WordPress.com account yet and want to register one of these domains for a new site, get started on the WordPress.com signup page.

We’re excited to make these domains available to you!

Is WordPress ever going to allow us to transfer previously registered domain names to WordPress?

Good question! Yes, incoming domain name transfers is definitely something we want to support down the road. When that feature is available we’ll be sure to post here letting folks know about it.

Hi Christiane! You can’t currently register .bzh domain names on WordPress.com, but you can register it with another registrar that supports it and then map it to your WordPress.com blog for only $13 per year. If you run into any issues or have any questions don’t hesitate to contact our support team.

How are the domains different and why do they have different prices?

Hi Ziya! These Top Level Domains (TLDs) let you add an extra layer of customization to your blog. For example, I see that you are using adaywithdepression.wordpress.com for your blog right now. You could check to see whether adaywithdepression.com is available, or adaywithdepression.fm, or any of the other ones we offer. You can then choose from the available domains the one you like best for your blog.

What if my blog motorrio. com changed into one of those domains? Should I pay again or not

    • Mazur

Hi Rio — your domain name motorrio.com will not change unless you purchase another custom domain name and then set it as your blog’s primary domain name. If you go this route, visitors to motorrio.com will automatically be redirected to your new custom domain name.

If I change, I’d expect WordPress to forward all my incoming to the new name . . .

I have an existing WordPress.com account and have been thinking of getting a domain. My concern is that I don’t want to keep my WordPress.com name, The Great One 22, but at the same time don’t want to lose my viewership/followers. Is there a solution?

Howdy TGO! If you purchase a custom domain name for your blog, visitors to your old web address (thegreatone22.wordpress.com) will be automatically redirected to your new domain name. You won’t lose a single visitor 🙂

Hi Mazur – How do I create a domain with a regional marker for Australia, e.g. newpiedpiper.com.au. Went to create a new blog with blog address ‘newpiedpiper.com.au’ (.com A$18.00/year). Screen displays ‘You entered a subdomain. Do you own this domain and want to map to it. No thanks I’ll choose a different blog name.’

In your info https://wordpress.com/blog/2013/06/24/intro-to-custom-domains/ you state “A domain’s TLD can act as a regional marker, such as domains ending in .ca, which is the country code for Canada”, so how do I register a domain with a .com.au ? Many thanks, cheers

Hola Pied Piper! While we support registrations of the “.com” Top Level Domain (TLD), we do not currently support registrations for the “.com.au” TLD (it’s completely separate from “.com”, even though they look the same).

If you want to use a .com.au TLD for your WordPress.com blog, you have to register it with a registrar that supports it such as this site: http://www.austdomains.com.au/

Once you’ve registered it, you can then map it to your WordPress.com blog for only $13/year.

      Hope this helps!

Thank you for your response, shall register elsewhere and then map within WordPress. I have worked in a field that employed different enterprise website and intranet content management systems, and have to say I am really impressed at the level and quality of the functionality your CMS provides, and the frequency of system updates and themes. This is an excellent system – well done to all.
