Early Theme Adopters: Singl

We release beautiful new themes every week. In our Early Theme Adopters series, we focus on bloggers who are using the most recent additions to our Theme Showcase. Today, let’s visit some of the blogs that are already using Singl, a minimalist, versatile theme.

Singl offers all the advantages of clean design: it’s easy to customize, and focuses your visitors’ attention on your content. It stands out from the crowd, however, with a few extra perks, like custom menus, sharing buttons you can add to your site’s header, and the ability to add full-page background images.

While it’s a great theme for bloggers of all kinds, it’s particularly suitable for users looking to build an attractive, easy-to-manage homepage: it comes with a Front Page template that does all the heavy lifting for you. Designed with musicians in mind, it’s already being used by discerning users of all stripes, from sneaker aficionados and digital photographers to fashion bloggers. Here are a few more examples of Singl in action.

British artist Faye Dobinson makes great use of the theme to showcase her work across multiple media. She’s created a visual introduction to herself and her art with Singl‘s Front Page template: a photo of herself, with a full-page background image of her artist’s studio in action.

Visitors interested in seeing more of Faye’s work can click on the custom menu that’s tucked at the top of the page. From there, they can easily navigate to her blog, her press and shows pages, and other pages dedicated to her art. They’re also encouraged to share her work with unobtrusive social sharing buttons at the top-left corner of the screen.

Take The Pills!

Singl is so flexible it can easily be turned into a bare-bones — but still striking — tumblelog theme. That’s how the blogger at Take The Pills!, an “indiepop blog,” has chosen to use it. Without an About page or any other added navigation, this is an endless stream of music finds, embedded YouTube videos and playlists, and the occasional album review.

The theme’s modern header sets the tone, then moves out of the way to let the blogger-curator’s content take center stage.

The blogger behind lexiquette“a diary of everyday curiosities,” features interviews with emerging artists, as well as reviews of (and comments on) art shows and other creative-minded events. The site’s clean design allows us to focus on the intriguing visuals — from the custom header image to the featured art.

Other touches round out the site’s unified look: a typewriter-like custom font adds to the artsy vibe, and Singl‘s sharing buttons, rendered here in black-on-white, look particularly sleek.

Stay tuned for more examples of sites using recently-added themes — and if there are any particular themes you’d like to see featured, feel free to leave us a comment.

Does it help to add hash tags to blog posts? #DSalernoTravel

We recommend simply tagging your posts. Adding the # symbol might make sense if you’re referring specifically to a Twitter-originated hashtag, but it doesn’t add anything else in terms of making your post easier to find for others.

There are so many wonderful themes yet I can’t seem to find the right one for my blog. I’m using “The Traveler’s Theme” which is great but the “Follow this blog” button is buried at the bottom of the page as are the ads. I’d like to create a sidebar but this theme doesn’t offer that. Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Looks amazing, I might change mine to this one.. The only thing that doesn’t convince me is the color.

You might want to try it out, then, with different-colored custom backgrounds. If you go to the Customizer, you can preview any background image you already have (or upload a new one). You can also try out different background colors in the Colors panel there (to save them you’ll need the Custom Design upgrade).

Thanks for this, after trying so many themes, I finally take Singl as my best choice for its clean, tidy, modern and minimal-style. It’s so beautiful! 😀
