Import from Wix

Ready to move your site from Wix to WordPress? This guide will show you how to export the contents of a Wix website and move your site to WordPress.com.

Step 1: Choose Your Site

To start, decide if you wish to create a brand new WordPress.com site or import your Wix site into a site you have already created.

Create a New WordPress.com Site

If you don’t already have a WordPress site for your Wix content, take the following steps:

  1. Visit https://wordpress.com/start/import/.
  2. Enter a domain name you want to use for the site (don’t worry, you can change this later.)
  3. Enter the URL of your Wix site you wish to import from and click the “Continue” button:
Window asking Where will you import from? with a box for the site URL.
  1. Click the “Import your site” button.

Import to an Existing Site

If you want to import your Wix content to an existing WordPress.com site, take the following steps:

  1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
  2. On the left side, navigate to Tools → Import.
  3. Choose the Wix import option:
The list of importers available, showing WordPress, Blogger, Medium, Squarespace, Substack, and Wix.
  1. Enter the URL of your Wix site into the box provided and click the “Continue” button.
  2. Click the “Yes! Start import” button.
  3. If multiple authors are detected on your Wix site, you will be presented with an option to assign each author’s content to the equivalent users on your WordPress site. Otherwise, your Wix content will be automatically assigned to your WordPress.com account user.

  1. Click the “Start Import” button. You’ll have a progress bar while the import is going on. You can leave this page – the import will continue in the background. You should receive an email when it’s completed.

Step 2: Review Your Imported Content

There is limited compatibility between the WordPress and Wix platforms. We will attempt to import as much of your content as possible. Here’s a non-exhaustive list of the types of content we can import:

Some functionality does not transfer over but can be configured manually in WordPress after the import:
