When Orange County deputies received a report of a man 'charging cars with a hammer', it turned out to be some dude with a squeegee.

Cmdr. Spike Hopkins said deputies found a wrench in the man's vehicle and determined the suspect could cause someone harm.  "The bizarre behavior was indicative of someone who was overdosing," Hopkins said.

Reports show the deputies tried to calm the man, but it didn't work. He was Tasered twice and then arrested.

Commander "Spike?" 

When you only have the police report, you never have the entire story.  Let's wait and see if the man was really overdosing.  Hide your wrenches.

UPDATE:

Kissimmee resident Jose Anibal Amaro, the suspect in the story, died at Florida Hospital this morning.  Further reports claim he was 'foaming at the mouth' had 'ingested cocaine,' and took three taser shots, some of which did not affect him.

"Is this a troubling thing to have happen in the middle of the ongoing investigation?" WFTV reporter Kathi Belich asked Jim Solomons, Orange County Sheriff's Office.

"I think troubling is inappropriate. You don't go out at night intending to take a life. It's unfortunate when it happens," he said.

Hmmm...  I think I'd prefer to  tighten the lugs to specifications using a torque wrench.  It's an added expense, but I think having that peace of mind would be worth it.

Torque wrenches aren't cheap but judging from my research, it'd be best to avoid torque wrenches that  are a little too budget priced.

Paraphrasing an oft expressed sentiment:  "It's your safety and car parts are expensive.  Why risk over/under tightening components by going with a cheaply made tool?"

So it looks like I'll head to various stores today (after doublechecking the lugs) to see what I can find.

That is right, it is a Salute.  Surprised?  You shouldn't be.  

If you're surprised, you don't have the testicular fortitude that the people who put tip jars out have.  If you think Tip Jars are over-the-top, how-dare-you, this-is-outrageous, than you don't have the type of healthy ego that the Tip Jarrers (n.-people who place tip jars on their counters) do!  

Today was the day I realized I should have a Tip Jar out everywhere I go.  I went to have my car serviced, and on the counter of the service station was a Tip Jar.  Now, I understand jars out at Subway, at the local donut shop, and I am fine with the Tip Jars that get passed around church.  What I can't understand is the crossover into industries that historically are notorious for price gouging.  Everyone knows that sandwich artist can use a few extra bucks, but the guy charging me $40 bucks to change my oil (if he really is doing it)?  I mean, he shows me a dirty filter, points underneath my hood, and uses words like, "carbonator" and then charges me $350 to fix it.  Now he wants a tip too?

Here is a tip pal; next time hit me up with that "totally necessary" 13,000 mile tune-up, or maybe rotate my tires after the first 15 miles, and you can charge me all day long.  As a matter of fact, just steal the change out of my ash-tray, because that it is the only way you'll get another dime from me.  

But, I do Salute you my mechanic friend, because it takes one big wrench (woka-woka) to put a tip jar on your counter.

I haven't met many people named Allen that I know of but, generally, I liked most of them. However, the next Allen I meet is going to get a tremendous wedgie.

This simple act of undergarment uncomfortableness is because of the Allen Wrench (god forbid I meet someone with that exact full name... they get a nipple twist too). I hate the Allen Wrench. You know what I am talking about, right? That bent little pseudo-screwdriver and... um... errr... wrench tool you get with each piece of furniture requiring assembly. I used to think they were called L-End Wrenches (makes sense right?) and really held no animosity to Allens everywhere.

Why don't stores like IKEA just skip the Allen Wrenches? I mean we could just use a screwdriver. Often there are other things in the same package that require a screwdriver... is there a shortage of screws? Are all the screw-trees being over-forested?

By the time I get the six-sided head in the all-too-often slightly worn, six-sided hole and crank the wrench 5/18ths of a turn and then loose control of the "hex key", nearly removing the eye of my cat who was watching in a bemused state, I could have screwed in 6 screws.

Then when I am done, what am I to do with the wrench? I have a whole drawer full of them because every item comes with another wrench but I always worry that I won't have an Allen Wrench when I really need one. They are like family to me now. I introduce them all to the new wrench...

First Impressions

A great addition to anyone’s toolbox, the Husky 45-Piece Stubby Set is ideal for all types of jobs around the house, garage, office, etc. The set includes (1) 1/4” and 3/8” dual-drive ratchet; (1) stubby precision wrench; (1) hi-torque ratcheting screwdriver; (1) 1/4” and 3/8” adapter; (1) hex to 1/4” adapter; (1) extension bar; and (27) sockets and (12) bits.

While the overall quality and number of tools makes this a great pickup, the real feature is the tools’ compact design. Working in very tight spaces is no longer a problem, and its well-organized case makes it easy to find exactly what you’re looking for. No more searching for that one socket you can’t seem to find or wondering where you last placed your ratcheting screwdriver. Everything is all right here for you.

Trying it Out

First up in our testing was the stubby ratchet. Encased in its own holder on the side of the case seems a bit weird at first, but it helps to keep the entire set as compact as possible. The ratchet has 1/4” and 3/8” drive capabilities, and utilizes a 72-tooth gear for speed and durability. The handle fits comfortably in the palm of your hand, but it could have more cushioning and be more ergonomic. The fitting of the sockets could also use some improvement as they slid off a little too easily and left us a bit frustrated trying to recover them. But overall, it’s great for tight spaces and a great start to the set.

Next up is the stubby precision wrench, which is basically what you’d expect in a set like this – it’s perfect for smaller tasks around the house, but you’d probably go to a more heavy-duty wrench for serious DIY projects. It’s built rather well (quite heavy for its size) and has a nifty 1” laser-etched rule on the head for precision adjustments. The handle is also more ergonomic than the stubby ratchet, making it that much more comfortable to hold. It’s a solid piece for a set this size.

The third main tool in the set is the hi-torque ratcheting screwdriver. Although it’s nice and compact and even has sort of a “cool” factor going for it, it could definitely use some improvements. The handle is extremely small, much smaller than the other two tools, and it’s not very comfortable. The adjustment knob at the top allows you to switch between left, neutral and right ratcheting modes, but that as well as the tip for the bit felt somewhat flimsy. There is a very cool feature, however, and that’s the bottom cap, which can be unscrewed to reveal storage for bits. That can come in handy, particularly if you just want to add some bits and throw it in your glove compartment or something. Overall, it’s a nice, if somewhat imperfect tool that you can still get a lot of use out of.

That’s pretty much it for the tools, but the set also includes 13 SAE sockets measuring from 5/32” to 3/4” and 14 metric sockets measuring from 4 mm to 17 mm. As mentioned above, the sockets don’t quite hold well enough on the tools, something that can get frustrating over a long period of time. There’s also a 3/8” to 1/4” adapter for even the most unusual combos, and an extension bar for hard-to-reach areas. To round out the set, Husky also includes 10 hex-drive bits for the driver and a hex to 1/4” adapter so you can use the driver with the sockets.

Final Conclusions

Clearly, the wrench and the ratchet are the standouts in this set. The screwdriver is functional, however, some improvements need to be made before it can be put in the same class as the other two tools. The fitting of the sockets could also be improved, as there’s nothing more annoying than having sockets slip off and fall into hard-to-reach areas. But don’t let that deter you from purchasing this set as it’s a great value for the money, and you get a lot of good stuff in a well-organized package. For around-the-house projects or, say, stowing it in your car for emergencies, this Husky set is hard to beat.

This set took me 4 hours to make because of all the little details and cars and such. It contains a bunch of mini figures and cars along with a commentator box, pit area, extra tires, tools and even a monkey for good measure! If you have this set along with the Snake Oiler and Racer X sets, 8158 and 8159, you end up having even more fun as you can see in my pictures:

Bad-Ass Meter: 5/5 (I would rate it a 10 if I could, but that's against the Bad-Ass rules)

Now all I am missing fron the Speed Racer collection is 8160: Cruncher Block & Racer X. Enjoy!

The entire piece is quite abstract however I really like how the wrenches come together at the end, almost like tile in an old kitchen . I like to relate the sequence to contention/battle in the fact that maybe sometimes a little conflict is needed to understand that there is a commonality between the two opposing parties. I might be talking total gibberish but thats what I see, maybe someone else sees something different.

Tuna goes on again with another wild show. This one is starting out, so if you put on something crazy real quick, you can still make it for most of the show. You just have to be here to experience what it is really all about. The animations and tunes and mind boggling. Cogsworth Linden is even here as a little dragon avatar smoking a cigar and with ... a big green wrench? Some come on down, hang out with a bunch of cool people, a Linden, and have some fun.

I have a longstanding affinity for machines, including those of the two wheel variety, some of which turn into more trouble than they are worth.   This piece is for one of those and anyone that knows the feeling of both wanting something to work and at the same time wanting to hit it with a really big hammer.  Sometimes our relationships with our machines are like our human relationships, capable of evoking both love and hate at the same time.

Then again, remember kids, love your machine, but don't LOVE your machine

It's 1.34am and I am in my lounge with the TV on in the background. Some film is giving me satisfying late night noise. I wrote in my little pocket journal - small Indian style book with hand made paper - that when the other me - the writer creature - needs to write, and I inexplicably deny that creature an outlet, then I suffer. Oh I suffer like a martyr. I am brave and exceeding courageous to the whining and the melancholy which begs me to do some bastard thing, to open a little door and send those words to my fingers, my poor liddle stiffy podgy fingers. Blah blah blah.

 But as I said (earlier, with a fountain pen) I have to soothe my poor trapped beast. It's the missing curvy awkward piece in an otherwise, currently quite replete picture.  Life bulges with impossible demands and wayward needs, but how can anyone complain of that? It really must be time to get my sorry ass in shifted, to put my gobby mouth where any money might be and wrench out the damn stuff.

Let this be a countdown.... come and kick my butt people!
