August 24, 1994
Cedar Rapids, IA
Five Seasons Center

The current WCW Champs were as follows:
WCW World Champion: Hulk Hogan (7/17/1994)
WCW U.S. Champion: Steve Austin (12/27/1993)
WCW World Tag Team Champions: Pretty Wonderful (7/17/1994)
WCW World Television Champion: Lord Steven Regal (6/23/1994)

Your hosts are Tony Schiavone & Bobby Heenan.

WCW World Tag Team Champions Pretty Wonderful vs. The Nasty Boys – non-title match

Since the last time we saw the Nasties, they have become lovable brawlers again after being WCW's top heel team for the last year while Pretty Wonderful captured the WCW tag belts from Cactus Jack & Kevin Sullivan at Bash at the Beach. Lots of CLUBBERIN in this match. The Nasties control the majority of the match until Sags gets drawn around the ring by Roma into an Orndorff clothesline. Roma poses and works the crowd while Orndorff smashes Sags' head into everything around ringside. Orndorff finally puts Sags back in the ring to play a little game of face-in-peril. Meanwhile in the front row, Blacktop Bully better known as Barry Darsow or Khrusher Khruschev or Demolition Ax or the Repo Man, gets all rowdy yelling at the Nasties with TV-Y7 insults. Sags finally backdrops out of an Orndorff PILEDRIVER and hot tags Knobbs. Roma saves his partner from a corner attack from Knobbs to set up the suplex/flying splash combo. From the other side, Sags drops a Flying Elbow and covers Orndorff for the non-title victory. (9:39) What a dumb finish to an otherwise decent match. Sags was clearly not even the legal man, but why let a silly thing like rules get in the way of a pinfall? This sets up a title match on the next episode of Saturday Night. **

Call the Hulk Hogan Hotline! He's runnin' wild on that thing, brother.

Speaking of Hogan, here he comes for an interview. Oh wait, there's a MASKED MAN behind dressed all in black. He WHACKS Hogan in the back of the leg with a lead pipe. Now we've got a Nancy Kerrigan angle on our hands. WHYYYYYYY?! WHYYYYYYY?! They should have booked Hulk Hogan vs. Shane Stant at Starrcade! That would've been money! Hogan does a stretcher job which eats up a good five minutes, leading us to believe that tonight's main event is in real jeopardy.

WCW U.S. Heavyweight Champion Steve Austin vs. Ricky Steamboat

The DQ rule has been waived for this match – meaning if Austin loses by disqualification, Steamboat wins the belt. They keep us tuned in to what is going on with Hogan in the back. He's heading to the hospital via ambulance. Now back to the ring for the more important stuff. Steamboat controls early with a headlock while a stage hand tells Bobby Heenan (what a great broadcast journalist!) that Hogan's injury may be fatal. Well, what does he know? He's not a doctor, he's just a stage hand. Steamboat changes over to an armbar. Austin shoves out and starts up a series of nearfalls between the two. Back to the armbar. Austin breaks free by throwing Steamboat out to the floor. Hey, that works. On the floor, Steamboat chases Austin around the ring for a double-chop. Back in, they exchange sleeper holds, but Austin gets the best of that with a jawbreaker. STUNNER! Nah, just kidding. Steamboat avoids a corner charge which causes Austin run his shoulder into the post. Steamboat walks the ropes and drops Austin's arm down hard across the top rope before nailing him with a Flying Judo Chop. That gets two. Blacktop Bully starts barking at Steamboat. Not sure what Austin did because the camera was on Darsow, but Austin breaks free from an armbar and starts slapping Steamboat around. Steamboat escapes a chinlock, but a splash off the ropes hits knees. Doesn't it always? Austin covers for two. He follows up with a vertical flying elbow drop for another nearfall. Steamboat puts the brakes on a suplex and decides to take it to that next level by placing Austin in the corner for a Superplex. Austin shoves him down awkwardly on his tailbone. This was just the beginning of the injury that kills Steamboat's career. Austin gets crotched all the same, but still manages to block the superplex! Now he gets caught coming down on Steamboat, but slams him down face-first during a FLYING BODYPRESS attempt. Nice. Austin starts slapping the challenger around. I'm not sure you want to do that, Dragon Slayer. Steamboat gets FIRED UP and double-chops the crap out of Austin. Steamboat just delivered an Arn Anderson Spinebuster! Awesome. Austin tries to leave by climbing the top rope apparently and gets taken down to the mat with an electric chair drop for 1-2-NO! Steamboat goes WrestleMania 3 on Austin with tons of rollups and nearfalls. Austin dumps Steamboat out to set him up to skin-the-cat, but the poor man needs a little assistance from Austin himself. Steamboat flips back in and rolls up Austin for 1-2-NO! Speaking of WrestleMania 3, Steamboat blocks a slam with a small package for 1-2-3. (16:08) We've got a NEW WCW U.S. Champion. The typical
great Steamboat/Austin match that we've come to expect over the last few years. Even with the injury that led to more back problems than Steamboat already possibly had, he still made it through a few more matches at house shows. Sad to know that this is his last live TV match, but still comforting to know that he didn't stick around past his welcome. His career ended on a high note in my book. ****

Eric Bischoff is standing outside the hospital as Hulk Hogan is carried in to be checked on. You'd think the President of the United States was just shot or something. Brother Bruti (Brutus Beefcake) is with Hogan and Jimmy Hart and that's all Bischoff really can tell us right now. I love how Heenan has a big goofy smile on his face the whole time.

The *NEW* Honky Tonk Man music video airs. It's the same old shtick – he drives a pink Cadillac with poodle skirt girls all around. The point is though that he's coming to WCW…soon!

Gene Okerlund interviews Nick Bockwinkel: If Hogan can't make the title match, Flair will win the WCW world title belt by forfeit. WOO!

Dusty & Dustin Rhodes vs. Terry Funk & Bunkhouse Buck (w/Col. Robert Parker & Meng)

Dusty is tired of seeing his son being backstabbed seemingly every time he wants a tag partner, so now he's here to get revenge on the most recent offender: Arn Anderson. Plus, he just plain doesn't like Terry Funk for reasons that go WAY back to the '70s and Bunkhouse Buck is well…Bunkhouse Buck. It's a big brawl to start with the Rhodes boys ruling and cleaning house on the Stud Stable. Once the action settles down into a tag match, Dustin avoids a monkey flip from Buck and stomps him square on the face. Buck doesn't even look mobile enough to pull off a monkey flip. Dustin gets cornered by the Stud Stable, but he fights out and cleans house again. Now Dusty tags in and delivers Bionic Elbows to Buck and taunts Funk a little bit. Buck takes over on Dusty and whips him into the corner, but Dustin shoots up on the top turnbuckle to save his daddy from the impact. Bionic Elbow to Buck! Bionic Elbow to Funk! Double Bionic Elbows! He whips the Stud Stable into each other down in the corner for a good ol' time. Dustin tags back in and takes a cowboy boot to the head behind the ref's back. False tag spot comes about and the Stud Stable encounter some miscommunication problems as Buck nails Funk with a boot by accident. Dusty tags and goes to work on Buck as Arn Anderson comes down to ringside and posts Dustin. In the ring, Funk starts stomping Dusty's arm looking to possibly to break it. Dusty wises up and dives for a hot tag to Dustin. Lariat to Funk! Lariat to Buck! Dusty delivers a pair of Bionic Elbows to the heels as Dustin hits Buck with the BULLDOG! Now Arn is in the ring and on top of Dustin for the DQ. (7:19) Another excellent performance from everybody and the DQ finish makes a ton of sense considering there's a Wargames coming up. Arn gives Dustin another DDT just like at the Bash of the Beach. Dusty puts down Arn with a Bionic Elbow. Meng gets in the ring and he dares Dusty to take a shot at him. Dusty decides it's best to leave…and grab a wooden chair. Dusty busts the chair over Meng's head, but that has NO EFFECT. Meng kicks Dusty down and applies a NERVE HOLD! Security people finally break this up. **½

Back at the hospital, Eric Bischoff interviews Hulk Hogan's attorney. Bet he's a busy man these days. He tells us that Hogan is going against his advice and everyone else's advice and says that he will be at the Clash to face Ric Flair. Hulkamania is just too powerful to be persuaded by mere rubes like Jimmy Hart and Brother Bruti!

Gene Okerlund brings out Ric Flair and Sensuous Sherri. Wow, Sherri is wearing all black with a veil and everything. CREEPY! Hogan's mishaps are not his problem. No matter what, he wants Hogan to walk that aisle (WOO!) and hand him the WCW world title belt. Not just that, but Hogan also has to tell Flair that he is the greatest of all-time.

After the break, Gene Okerlund tells us that Bischoff says Hogan is on his way back to the Five Seasons Center. Heenan just cannot believe it.

WCW World Television Champion Lord Steven Regal (w/Sir William) vs. Antonio Inoki – non-title match

This all started because Inoki received an award at the Bash at the Beach and Regal became jealous. They try for a pseudo-shoot fight, but it fails in my book. During the match, they cut to Hogan walking back into the building. He's had that belt wrapped around his waist the whole time? The crowd isn't really into it, but out of respect for Inoki they pop for the finish when he wins with the CHOKE SLEEPER. (8:41) No offense to Inoki, but I'm glad this was as far as this feud went. *½

WCW World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan (w/Jimmy Hart) vs. Ric Flair (w/Sensuous Sherri)

Flair starts out in the ring calling Hogan out to bring him the belt so he doesn't have get hurt anymore. He comes out late and limping, but he's here. Hogan lunges at Flair and beats him down to the mat. Hmm, guess that means he won't be forfeiting a title. Hogan NO-SELLS all of Flair's chops and sends him flying out to the floor with the Flair Flip. Hogan posts Flair down on the floor and throws him back in the ring only to choke Flair with some fan's jacket. What a jerk. Flair goes to the eyes, but gets slammed off the top. Flair gets punched out over the top rope and down on the ring steps! Ouch. They brawl in the aisle way with Hogan in total control. Flair gets posted again, but avoids a chair shot. Back in the ring, Flair takes advantage of being the first guy in and delivers a suplex. Hogan NO-SELLS, but remembers to limp. Geez, lead pipes must be the kryptonite to this guy. They head back to the floor again where Hogan chases Flair around the ring with the championship belt. Back in, Flair FINALLY goes for the knee. It's time to go to school, buddy. Hogan kicks away the FIGURE-FOUR, so Flair goes to work on the knee some more. Now it's FIGURE-FOUR time. Hogan sells and then doesn't sell as he powers out. He continues to walk around while Flair kicks him in his bad knee until he points the finger. Oh no he didn't. He punches and Big Boots Flair, but he can't stand up on his bad knee. With some help from the ropes, he's back on his feet. LEGDROP to Flair. No cover though because of the knee. Flair wakes up and grabs the FIGURE-FOUR again until Hogan reverses the hold. While the ref is talking to Jimmy Hart, Sherri runs over and WHACKS Hogan in the knee with the point of a high heel shoe. Hogan falls off the apron to the floor and then gets counted out! Flair wins! (14:26) Flair celebrates with the belt until Hogan beats him down and takes it back. Here comes Shane Stant again to work over Hogan's knee. He joins forces with Flair, but that doesn't mean they know each other. Well, it's pretty obvious that the masked man is Arn Anderson right now. But Flair is innocent until proven guilty! Flair applies the FIGURE-FOUR while Sherri kicks at Hulk and the masked man runs to the back. STING IS HERE! Did he not pass that masked fellow on the way to the ring? Now he makes the save for the Hulkster. It seems the tables have turned, my friend. Flair and Sherri get the heck out of Dodge and takes the belt with them. ***

Final Thoughts: This Clash did a good job of moving things forward even if the future did just lead to Hogan and friends being the central part of the company. But for now anyways, the Nasties are getting over as a face team again, the Steamboat/Austin feud is finally paid off with a deserved title switch, Wargames is basically set, and the Hogan/Flair feud is continued and given some fresh air thanks to the masked man. You've got one great match here and one that's kind of interesting considering the buildup throughout the whole night even if they did just rip off what they did with Sting years before. Hey, but that's the wrestling biz for ya. By the way, I believe the Hogan/Flair rematch received the highest cable rating ever at the time. I'll give Clash 28 a thumbs up.

July 17, 1994
Orlando, FL
Orlando Arena

The current WCW Champs were as follows:
WCW World Champion: Ric Flair (12/27/1993)
WCW U.S. Champion: Steve Austin (12/27/1993)
WCW World Tag Team Champions: Cactus Jack & Kevin Sullivan (5/22/1994)
WCW World Television Champion: Lord Steven Regal (6/23/1994)

Your hosts are Tony Schiavone & Bobby Heenan. At the time, this was the biggest PPV gate that WCW had ever generated with a crowd of 14,000. The previous record was the Great American Bash in 1988 with 13,000. Just a little bit of trivia there for you.

Country music's "flavor of the month" Daron Norwood sings the national anthem.

WCW World Television Champion Lord Steven Regal (w/Sir William) vs. Johnny B. Badd

Sting was supposed to get the TV title shot here up until Sensuous Sherri dressed up like a man and clawed Sting's eyes out during a match with Ric Flair. As wacky and ridiculous as that sounds, she was in fact barred from the building. She doesn't usually do those sorts of things like cross-dressing. She really can't pull it off. In fact, Hulk Hogan made the save much like at the Clash and bing bam boom – Sting is off the card where the Hulkster makes his big WCW wrestling debut. Coincidence? I choose to think not. Badd gets the title shot and that's a-okay with me. The man continues to improve by leaps and bounds since his debut in 1991. Badd is FIRED UP tonight. Regal can't keep him down and begs off in the corner. They do a cool nearfall sequence from a knucklelock. Badd goes for the arm and Regal tries to wear him down with a headlock. Badd escapes the headlock and slams Regal's arm down on the mat to send him rolling out to the floor for a talk with Sir William. Back in, Badd does the same thing and grounds Regal with a hammerlock. Badd continues to crank on the arm while the director looks over at Hogan's "Thunder in Paradise" co-star who happens to be sitting beside Linda Hogan. She's all smiles tonight. Regal knees out, but Badd quickly delivers a tilt-a-whirl headscissors. He levels Regal with the KISS THAT DON'T MISS! Ahh, Regal rolls out. Here comes Badd with the plancha on both Regal AND Sir William. Badd sunset flips in and Sir William helps out his man with the umbrella, but the ref Nick Patrick kicks Regal's hands free and he falls back for 1-2-NO! Regal rolls through and cradles Badd up for 1-2-3. (10:45) Hey, I thought this was a really good opener even if the finish was kind of botchy. You get the feeling after this match that its only a matter of time before he dethrones Regal and that's exactly what happens. ***

Gene Okerlund awards Antonio Inoki for a lifetime of contributions to wrestling. Regal interrupts and asks why he hasn't received an award. He's in the House of Lords, you know! Regal calls himself far superior to Inoki, which leads to their match at the next Clash. The crowd responds when Inoki takes of his jacket, leaving me surprised that they remember who Inoki is. It's pretty cool because Regal has already disposed of one legend in Larry Zbyszko and now there's another one he seems to feel intimidated by. Regal ~ "I'm sick of these so-called bloody legends!"

Vader (w/Harley Race) vs. The Guardian Angel

Jesse Ventura replaces Bobby Heenan for the next two matches while Bobby Heenan goes and checks on something in the back. Ventura just does not care at this stage in his WCW announcing career. Tony pretty much works alone here due to Ventura's apathy probably caused by Hogan's mere existence in the building. But I digress. This is a rematch from Spring Stampede where The Boss was stripped of his gimmick as a policeman. Now he's part of the Guardian Angel group. He does good things without a nightstick. Harley Race gets dumped immediately, allowing Vader to blast Angel from behind. Whoa, Vader connects with a spin kick. Didn't get much air, but still. Angel ducks a clothesline and drills Vader with a back suplex. He follows up with a slam and they go to the floor where Race gets decked again. Once again the distraction caused by Race allows Vader to attack from behind. Back in, they trade blows. Angel gets the best of Vader off that exchange, but Vader reverses a corner whip and splashes him down. Angel sits down on Vader when he tries a Flying Sunset Flip! Vader goes to the eyes and works over the leg by bending back the wrong way. VADER BOMB connects! Could it be time for the VADERSAULT? Yes it is. Vader hurts his ribs though. Race gets involved again and tries to come off the top rope, but Angel is there to slam him down. Vader takes a clothesline out to the floor, so Angel slides out to meet him with a right hand. Angel gives Vader a suplex back in, but Angel shoulderblocks Vader into the ref. More like brushed him up against the referee. Meanwhile, Race hands Vader a police baton. Vader doesn't get to use it though as Angel punches him down until he drops the baton. Now Angel picks up the baton and the ref can't help but see that. He calls for the bell and awards the match to Vader by DQ. (7:58) Another decent brawl from these two. They both seemed rather motivated and when that happens, I can't see these two having a bad match. Bad finish though. ***¼

Tony asks Jesse who he favors in the Hogan/Flair match. He quickly responds with an annoyed, "I've already made my pick – 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair."

Dustin Rhodes & Arn Anderson vs. Terry Funk & Bunkhouse Buck (w/Col. Robert Parker & Meng)

We've got four of my faves in there right now. By the way, this was Meng's WCW PPV debut as Col. Parker's bodyguard. AA and Buck shrugs off a couple collar-and-elbow tie-ups to start. Now Rhodes comes in and starts CLUBBERIN on Buck. Funk tags, but Rhodes won't let him into the ring and punches him out to the floor. Funk goes crazy on the floor and swings at Meng and Parker. Back in, he backs Rhodes into the ropes and fires away. The whole time Funk is mouthing off and belittling Rhodes for being a Rhodes. Funk runs into a slam and gets dumped over the top rope to the floor. The ref didn't see it though. Now Buck gets the same treatment on the other side with the ref looking at Funk. Back in again, Rhodes delivers a pair of atomic drops to the Stud Stable. Funk manages to back suplex out of a headlock and tags Buck. Rhodes whiffs on a crossbody and flies out to the floor. I love it when he does that. That allows Funk to do a little damage. He throws Rhodes back in for a chinlock. From there, Buck applies an ab stretch and gets leverage help from Funk. Tag to Funk, he delivers a reverse neckbreaker to set up the PILEDRIVER. They collide for a double-KO spot, but Funk lands in his corner and tags Buck. Rhodes gets double-teamed in the heel corner until AA has enough and comes over to help out. After the ref puts Arn back in his corner, Rhodes fights out with Bionic Elbows! He hits the Lariat on Funk and crotches Buck up on the top rope. Dustin throws Buck on top of Funk and finally makes a tag to AA! With Dustin dazed, Arn turns on Rhodes and drops him with a DDT! Meanwhile, the ref is with Meng. Anderson puts Funk on top as the ref counts three. (11:36) It's one of those turns that you're not surprised that it happened, but you're glad that it did happen. The Arn Anderson that we all know and love is back and as bad as ever. After the match, Arn Anderson tries to *break* Dustin's arm. That's some '80s goodness right there. Awesome performance from everybody here. I really enjoyed this match. ***½

WCW U.S. Heavyweight Champion Steve Austin vs. Ricky Steamboat

Austin has his awesome "Dragon Slayer" tights on. He Pearl Harbors Steamboat and goes after the knee, but Steamboat chops back and hits Old School. Yes-the Undertaker ropewalk. He dropkicks Austin into a tree of woe position, leaving him wide open for Steamboat. Steamboat stays on the arm until Austin plays 'possum when his knee "gives out". Steamboat refuses to fall for that trick and stomps Austin in the corner. Austin rolls out and yanks Steamboat out, but gets chased around ringside and back in the ring. Steamboat grabs a sleeper and shoves Austin off into the corner for a rollup that gets two. Back to the arm. Austin's trick knee acts up right into Steamboat's balls. Austin takes over on Steamboat with clotheslines and such. Steamboat tries to rope-a-dope and winds up stumbling out to the floor. Austin brings him in with a nice suplex for two. Steamboat gets angry and grabs a choke lift before going back to the arm. Austin comes back with an Alabama Slam. Austin drops a flying knee and pounds on him into the corner until Steamboat trips him up and catapults Austin into the top of the ringpost. That gets two. Austin quickly reverses a whip for a backdrop and regains control. During a chinlock, he manages to block an electric chair drop. He tries to get a pinfall during a knucklelock, but Steamboat won't stay down. Austin tries to splash him, but hits knees. He's still able to keep control of the match and hits a Bossman straddle. Austin lowers his left knee pad and charges at Steamboat, but gets caught with a STUNGUN. Austin rolls out to the apron and shoves Steamboat down onto the guardrail. Steamboat returns the favor by shoving Austin off into the ringpost. Back in, Steamboat connects with the Flying Judo Chop. Austin tries to get intentionally DQ'ed a couple times by throwing Steamboat over the top rope, but Steamboat skins-the-cat both times. D'oh! They go through a tombstone piledriver reversal sequence that takes both men from corner to corner until Steamboat delivers one to Austin! Steamboat goes for it all with the FLYING BODYPRESS, but Austin yanks the ref in harm's way. Lucky for him, Steamboat lands on his feet. Ref Randy Anderson threatens to call for the bell, but Steamboat begs him to not do that. Austin rolls through a Steamboat crossbody block and gets two. Now he puts his feet on the ropes and gets 1-2-3. (20:16) Ha! I don't mind the finish here because it shows Austin's desperation after trying to get intentionally disqualified earlier. This was probably the best match they had had up to this point. ***¾

In the back, Gene Okerlund crashes the Stud Stable party. Apparently, AA double-crossed Rhodes for the chicks. He's sitting on the couch with a handful of ladies. Funk is on his knees babbling on about hating Dusty Rhodes. Col. Parker leads his boys in a toast for the most honorable man he knows, Arn Anderson. That sets up a great promo from Arn. He told Dustin he would get the old Arn Anderson, and that's exactly what he got. Awesome.

WCW World Tag Team Champions Cactus Jack & Kevin Sullivan (w/Dave Sullivan) vs. Pretty Wonderful

Well this looks to be the absolute low point of the evening. Lots of posing and stalling from the challengers to start. The tag champs actually incorporate some team work much to Heenan's surprise. Cactus does that body block in the corner when Sullivan gets whipped in to cushion the blow. The heels try the same thing, but that always backfires. Cactus and Orndorff brawl to the floor, which is what those two are good at. See Superbrawl 3 if you're confused. The champs work on Orndorff's arm for a while. That is until Orndorff backs Cactus into the corner and buries some knees. Roma tags in and does more of the same. Cactus counters a suplex on Orndorff and tags Sullivan. He grabs both Roma and Orndorff for turnbuckle smashes. Now the champs revert back to the arm while the crowd amuses themselves up by doing the wave! Heenan says they're only fourteen years behind by starting that up. Roma finally gets a tag and fires away on Sullivan in the corner. During a pier-six brawl that follows, Orndorff delivers a PILEDRIVER to Sullivan for 1-2-NO! Dave slips his brother Kevin's foot on the bottom rope. Roma hits a Flying Elbow Drop for 1-2-NO! Orndorff hits the Shaky Elbow Drop and applies a chinlock. More basic face-in-peril stuff follows until Roma misses a FLYING SPLASH. Hot tag to Cactus, he hits the Bossman straddle on Orndorff. Sullivan gets rid of Roma while Cactus delivers the DOUBLE-ARM DDT to Orndorff. He covers, but the ref is busy with the Sullivan brothers. What the…? Roma trips up Cactus as he comes off the ropes and holds his feet down as Orndorff jumps on top of Cactus for 1-2-3. (20:13) We've got NEW WCW world tag team champions. What a retarded finish with WAY too much time given to this match. *

In case you haven't been keeping count, it's Heels – 5, Babyfaces – 0.

WCW World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair (w/Sensuous Sherri) vs. Hulk Hogan (w/Jimmy Hart)

SHAQ IS HERE! It's cool because we're in Orlando. He'll award the winner with the strap. The crowd is split right down the middle I'd say. Maybe 60 Hogan/40 Flair at best. They get in each others faces until Flair shoves Hogan back. Hogan shoulderblocks Flair down a bunch. Flair dodges a tie-up and struts, so Hogan does the same. Of course in Hogan's case, he looks a lot dumber doing it. Flair grabs an arm wringer until Hogan reverses into a cross armbreaker. Flair stomps on Hogan's face and retreats to the floor to stand behind Sherri. She doesn't care though. Sherri DARES Hogan to take a swing at her. Back in, Hogan gets Flair up against the ropes and paintbrushes the back of his head. Hogan hits the corner clothesline and goes for the Big Boot, but Flair sneaks out to the floor and hides behind Sherri again. Back in again, Flair's catches Hogan with a knee and takes over with chops. Flair hits the Rolling Knee Drop, but Hogan NO-SELLS. A ten-count corner punch is followed by a clothesline. Sherri grabs Hulk's leg, which allows an opening for Flair to chop block him. Flair chops him out to the floor for Sherri to bash Hogan with a chair, but Jimmy Hart makes the save. Back in, Flair drops a single sledge and another Rolling Knee Drop. This time Hogan sells the knee drop, but comes right back with chops out of the corner. Flair goes low with a rabbit punch and snapmares Hulk over for a chinlock. Eventually, Hogan elbows out and delivers a pair of shoulderblocks. Hogan unloads and whips Flair into the corner for the Flair Flip out to the apron where Hogan floors him with a clothesline. On the floor, Hogan delivers a back suplex and then gives Flair a suplex back in, but misses the LEG DROP. He shouldn't have been cupping his ears for the humanoids. Flair tries twice for the FIGURE-FOUR, but Hogan kicks him off. Hogan NO-SELLS a perfect vertical suplex. Oh geez. Hogan hits the Big Boot and covers for 1-2-NO! Sherri pulls ref Randy Anderson out and slings him into the guardrail. Jimmy Hart takes a shoe to the face! Hogan looks over at Sherri and takes another chop block to the back of his knee. Sherri splashes Hogan before Flair locks in the FIGURE-FOUR. Now we have ref Nick Patrick officiating. Hogan makes the ropes, but gets choked with Sherri's hose. Flair stays on Hulk's knee and starts chopping until he begins to no longer sell. Hogan runs into a back elbow from Flair. Sherri and Flair both head up top. Hogan rolls away from another Sherri splash while Flair is slammed down to the mat. Sherri's back up on the apron and right before Mr. T runs down and carries her out, she slips some knux to Flair. WHAM! Hogan gets nailed as Flair covers for 1-2-NO! It's HULK UP time. One punch, two punch, three punch. Big Boot. LEG DROP. (21:56) We've got a NEW WCW world champion. Afterwards, Hogan celebrates with his two black friends Shaq and Mr. T before posing for several more minutes with Jimmy Hart jumping around like an idiot. It's Hogan/Flair. What more do I need to say? Who hasn't seen this match? ***¼

As Hogan goes to the back for a post-match interview, he runs into his cronies Brutus Beefcake and "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan. What's Brian Pillman doing there?

Final Thoughts: Isn't it amazing how much WCW kissed Hogan's rear end for this entire PPV? All heel victories before this match. Not just heel victories, but cheap wins, a swerve, and a referee who made a completely wrong decision based in favor of a heel. It's really unbelievable how WCW does this considering they had been doing very well in 1994 up to this point booking-wise. While there is some stupid booking on WCW's behalf, the talent still managed to put together a very solid card. There's every reason for me to give this show a thumbs up. First of all, how to NOT book a PPV. Secondly, for historical reasons because of the changing times in WCW. And third, there is a lot of good wrestling here. The best way to enjoy this six-match card though is probably to just turn it off after Steamboat/Austin and think about what might could have been. Like I said, thumbs up for Bash at the Beach.

And now for a special bonus match!

Ricky Steamboat vs. Ric Flair (w/Sensuous Sherri) – (Main Event 7/24/94)

This aired on the Sunday after Bash at the Beach where Flair lost the WCW world title to Hogan and Steamboat failed to capture the WCW U.S. title from Steve Austin. No titles on the line – only pride. Pretty cool seeing these two at the absolute top of the company wrestling on the C-level show. They exchange hammerlocks to start. Flair gets in some cheap shots to take over and dumps Steamboat over the top rope to Sherri. She works her magic down on the floor. Steamboat wants to beat her up SO bad, but you can't do that on television! Flair nails Steamboat from behind and wildly chokes him on the apron. Some chops wake up Steamboat as he mounts his comeback. Steamboat delivers the ten-count corner comeback and then chops Flair out to the floor. Steamboat gives chase and throws Flair back in the ring. Steamboat hits a backdrop and a dropkick. Flair begs off and goes to the eyes. He suckers Steamboat into the corner for his infamous corner pin using the ropes, but Steamboat will not stay down for three. Flair gets shoved down by the ref and takes a press slam from Steamboat. Flair Flips out onto the apron and takes a double-chop to the floor. He pulls Sherri in front of him and pops Steamboat, but gets chopped anyway. Back in, Flair blocks the Flying Judo Chop with a right hand to the gut. Ref gets bumped and Steamboat rolls up Flair for a few irritating pin attempts. Steamboat slams Flair off the top and hooks on the Figure-Four. Sherri gets involved and brings Steamboat over to her for an atomic drop that puts her back on the floor. With the ref still down, Steamboat heads up top for the FLYING BODYPRESS and connects! Wait a second, Steve Austin runs in to beat down Steamboat as the ref regroups and DQ's Flair. (12:04) This was more like sports entertainment BS than a proper finale for the greatest rivalry of all time. **¾

Taped in Edmonton, Alberta Canada

Opening Promo Time w/ Chris Jericho

Jericho congratulates his friend Benoit on his outstanding showing on Monday. Now he thinks it's his turn. It's time for the Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla to add the WWF Title to his full mantle.

"Here Comes the Money" Shane likes the idea. And since Austin isn't yet signed to wrestle tonight and since Shane has 50% creative control of the WWF, why not? Tonight, Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Chris Jericho for the WWF Title!

"No Chance in Hell" McMahon says this is getting old. How does Shane think it's good for the WWF to keep giving away title matches on free TV? Didn't Vince teach him better than that?

Shane says it's never bad business to give the fans what they want to see every night out.

Vince says fine. If that's the way it's gotta be okay. If Chris Jericho beats Steve Austin tonight then Jericho will wrestle Benoit title vs. title at KOTR. The Undertaker will still wrestle Stone Cold but it will be non-title.

Rhyno then takes a shot at Tazz and the two of them brawl until seperated by security.

Steve Austin is talking with Vince in the back. It made Vince sick to see Stu Hart holding that belt on Monday. He promised himself no Hart would ever hold the WWF Title again and he intends to keep that promise. As far as he's concerned Jericho is a Hart. So Austin better make damn sure he gets the job tonight. Austin says "My name is Stone Cold Steve Austin and I guaran-damn-tee you I ain't losing this belt tonight."

COMMERCIAL

We get another Triple H video package, though this time it is a mockumentary, clearly produced by Vince and Austin.

In William Regal's office Edge wants to know why he has to face Kane again in the first round. Regal says not to ask him it was Christian's idea. Christian says "hey, you already fought him tonight, now you know his weaknesses." Edge retorts with "he doesn't have any." Regal says he's got other things to worry about as it looks like Rikishi is out of the King of the Ring. Therefore, the winner of the next match will take his place.

Tajiri counters a vertical suplex with an inside cradle for 3.

Shane McMahon is in his office. He is proud to announce that in the very near future a major superstar will be making his way to the WWF and has just signed a WCW contract. That means, Shane can give him a title shot any time he wants. Not that he wants Mr. Austin to have anything else to worry about.

COMMERCIAL

WWF Title Match: Stone Cold Steve Austin (c) vs. Chris Jericho

Vince McMahon comes out and announces that this will be a last man standing match.

21 minute match

Back and Forth match and goes through a commercial break.

They fight to the outside.

The Big Show and William Regal make their ways out.

Benoit is behind them and helps Jericho take both of them out. Angle out now, he and Benoit fight into the crowd.

BONG! The Undertaker makes his way out. He grabs Chris Jericho and gives him The Last Ride through the announce table. He then picks Austin up and holds him in a standing position by his throat. As soon as the ref counts Jericho out and calls for the bell, Taker choke slams Austin on the outside. Taker gets the WWF Title and drops it on Austin.

Benoit is back out and spins Undertaker around and wants to know what the hell he's doing. Taker grabs him by the throat. Benoit counters with a Crippler Crossface. Security is out to break it up.

Fade to black...

I admit it. Yes, I am a WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) or Professional Wrestling lover. I

I admit it. Yes, I am a WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) or Professional Wrestling lover. I'm 22 years old & I have been a fan since I was just 4 years old. I remember watching my very first match & it absolutely thrilling me & since then I've never turned back. I remember the original reason I liked it too, as you can guess, since I was only 4, it was because I was seeing two guys beat each other up! Yeah, alot of little boys get fascinated by that sort of thing.

So, that sets this up for you. Now, as you can imagine, after a while I learned that it was fake. It took nothing away from the enjoyment I got out of it, even as I was still a youngster. I was still as enthralled by it as ever. The passion never wavered, it didn't stop me for a second from being so happy anytime it were to come on TV & not hardly be able to wait for the next time it would. People would say to me "but, it's fake, how can you like that?"

That's what I'm going to explain here & it also happens to be the reason why Professional Wrestling should be taken seriously as a sport, not as something that's beneath being a sport, not as the redheaded stepchild of a sport, but as a true sport in & of itself.

Professional Wrestling is indeed fake.. But, not completely. That's what many people who are constantly talking about that they can't like something that's fake like that cannot seem to grasp. The physical interaction between the wrestlers in the ring is fake to a degree (more on that later), but, the athleticism it takes to do those moves, the skill & talent, training & effort it takes to become a Professional Wrestler is NOT fake at-all. Some of the things these athletes do are amazing, all the while making sure that the athlete they are working with does not truly get seriously hurt. Imagine soaring off the top rope while back-flipping in mid-air & trying to land on-top of someone just perfectly so that you do not seriously hurt them.

Which leads me to the next element involved here. While these athletes are doing these moves with care & they are trained professionals as to how to do these moves to where the athlete they are doing them to does not get injured, to a certain degree, it is real.. There is pain involved, their bodies do get worn out, they are human beings putting on a show, yes, but, it does come at a cost, just as it does with an NFL player, MLB player, Boxer or any other physical sport you care to think of. It is taxing on their bodies, they do get burned out sometimes, it does wear on them mentally as well.

There are many of men who think they wish to become a Professional Wrestler, but when they start to truly train for it, they cannot take it. Take that for what it's worth, but honestly, what does that say to you in your heart of hearts?

I know this has been long & I appologize, so, I'm going to wrap this up very shortly. I just hope that I can get through to some of you who look down on Professional Wrestling or feel that it somehow does not qualify as a sport. I want to share my passion with you, I want to open up a whole new world to you or perhaps just let you see just a small beam of the brightness that Professional Wrestling is to my life.

I understand that it being fake has nothing to do with why some do not like wrestling or maybe even it not being considered a sport in your eyes. Some of you disagree with some of the soap opera type things that goes on during, say, a WWE event. That's understandable, but don't let that overshadow what the athletes in the ring do. Don't let that one thing blind your eyes to what can be a very beautiful thing if you let it.

The soap opera like things that go on is the entertainment aspect of it.. After all, it is labeled "sports entertainment".. What sport doesn't entertain you though? Every sport has it's characters; There's Manny Ramirez in baseball, there's Terrell Owens in the NFL, there's many in the NBA. Every sport has those characters that aren't playing a role though, that's real life, that's their real selves, yet, some of you may not let that effect whether or not you watch those things. So, why not give the WWE or TNA (Total Nonstop Action) a chance? Why does Professional Wrestling always have to have this big bad dark cloud hung over it?

In closing, I just want to let you know that if you're reading this at this point, I thank you ever so much. I thank you because it proves that you're thinking about this at least & that's great. If this only makes one person see Professional Wrestling in a different light, then it was worth the time & effort here. I hope somebody who didn't before now realizes that Professional Wrestling can be seen as I see it now, an art, a thing of beauty, great athleticism, some entertainment thrown in & most importantly - A sport!

Thanks SOOO much again for reading!

Live from Calgary….Alberta….Canada
Opening Promo Time with Vince McMahon

Vince walks do

Live from Calgary....Alberta....Canada

Opening Promo Time with Vince McMahon

Vince walks down pissed. He gets and grabs a mic. He talks about his rise to power in the WWE and turning it into a global powerhouse outlasting his rival WCW. He then says he got to where he is because he did not let people take advantage of him. He says there are two things he hates more then any thing else in this world. Cowards and Traitors. He will not tolerate cowards and traitors in the WWE.

The WWE has pleanty of both Cowards and Traitors. Cowards like his daughter Stephanie who walk out the family busniess and gave her twenty percent of the family busniess to his traitor son shane. Who abused his power by putting the companys champion and biggest superstar Stone Cold in harms way by booking him in a match against Taker. But the biggest Cowards and Traitors in the WWE are a couple of degenerates who are completely worthless and ungrateful punks by the names of the Dudley Boys. The Dudleys were nothing before the WWE. He made them famous he was the one who made the fans cheer and this is how they show their respect by running away like a coward to the other side like a traitor. And since the Dudleys like to put there nose into other people's busniess they will be punished when at the King of Ring they will face the Hardy Boys.

"Here Comes the Money" Shane comes out with mic in hand. Dad you call the Dudleys cowards but they are the only guys with guts in this busniess. They stook up for themselves against the tyrany of Vince. There is nothing that he can do at the King of the Ring it will be the Hardys vs the Dudleys in a tag match. But since he cant punish Vince he can punish Vince's golden boy. At King of the Ring it will be Undertaker vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin in a No Disqualification match. But thats not all tonight he has decided that he will give the fans in Canada the chance to see there own Canadian hero get a chance at the world tonight when Stone Cold Steve Austin face CHRIS BENOIT!!!. Vince has a shocked look on his face as we go to commercial.

COMMERCIAL

Back from commercial, Howard introduces Stu and Helen Hart sitting in the front row.

Light Heavyweight Title Match: Dean Malenko (c) vs. Tajiri

5 minute match

Malenko gets far more offense than he did on Smackdown as he is prepared here.

Perry Saturn comes to ringside and attempts to help Malenko

Saturn inadvertently hits Malenko...Swift Kick from Tajiri gets 3.

Winner and NEW Light Heavyweight Champion: Tajiri

After the match, Malenko is very angry with Saturn. Perry apologizes profusely.

In the back, Vince McMahon finds Chris Benoit. He congratulates him on his opportunity tonight. However, Shane has no control over the rest of Benoit's night. He should get dressed earlier than expected as he will face Rhyno next.

COMMERCIAL

In the Commissioner's office, Albert wants a shot at the KOTR tournament. Regal agrees and tells him he'll face a very familiar opponent tonight. He will have a qualifying match with Test.

Rhyno vs. Chris Benoit

4 minute match

Very competitive match, Heyman putting over that Rhyno hasn't lost a match since WrestleMania and has never tapped.

Rhyno Gores the ring post and succumbs to the Crippler Crossface.

COMMERCIAL

King of the Ring Qualifying Match: Kurt Angle vs. Steve Blackman

6 minute match

Both men use ground and pound and try submission moves.

Angle elbows out of a german suplex attempt and gets the Angle Slam for 3.

"Here Comes the Money" Shane is out to congratulate Angle on his win. He's been to war with Blackman and knows it wasn't easy.

Angle takes the mic and says Shane's got some balls getting in the ring with him again. This time maybe, he'll finish the job.

Angle grabs Shane when out of nowhere through the crowd comes Lance Storm. Storm takes Angle down from behind with a german suplex, then Superkicks him. Shane hugs Lance and raises his hand.

COMMERCIAL

In Shane's office he and the Dudleys officially welcome Lance Storm to the World Wrestling Federation.

Chris Jericho finds Vince McMahon. He wants to know why Benoit is getting a title shot when he's already the IC Champ. Vince says, maybe that's why. Jericho needs to start reminding people why he USED to be the future of this sport. He can start tonight. He'll go one-on-one with Scotty II Hotty.

King of the Ring Qualifying Match: William Regal vs. ?

Regal gets a mic and voices his appreciation to Vince McMahon for putting him in charge of the tournament at King of the Ring. He felt it only right that he, William Regal be a part of this tournament. He has challenged himself tonight with suitable competitoin.

Regal's opponent is Gillberg.

2 minute squash. Regal finishes him with a Regal Cutter.

COMMERCIAL

In the back the Hardys run into Vince and asked him why he thinks they would help him against the Dudley Boys. Vince says he is giving them the chance to get vengeance against the Dudleys. But if that is not sweet enough he will give the Hardys a Tag Team title match. Vince walks away and the Matt and Jeff look at eachother and nod their heads.

King of the Ring Qualifying Match: Albert vs. Test

4 minute match

Aggressive match with lots of power moves.

Test goes behind on a slam attempt and hits a powerslam of his own for 3.

Vince McMahon is with The Big Show. He is disgusted with him. He can't believe he lost to Spike Dudley last friday. Big Show needs to prove himself and do it soon or he may no longer be employed.

Chris Jericho is with Chris Benoit. He'd love to face Benoit for the WWF Title at KOTR. He knows they haven't been as close lately as they used to be and that a lot has gotten between them. But sincerely, in front of all his country people and the man who he considers a father figure, he wishes Benoit the best of luck tonight. If it can't be Jericho, there's no man he'd rather see wearing the World Title than Benoit.

COMMERCIAL

Vince tells Austin he thinks tonight is going to work out just fine.

Scotty II Hotty vs. Chris Jericho

4 minute match

Jericho dominates early, but Scotty starts getting reverses and near falls

Jericho finally grabs Scotty and throws him over the top rope.

Jericho follows and throws him back first into the pole a couple of times. Throws him back in and locks on the Walls of Jericho. Scotty submits but Jericho does not let go for a couple of moments afterwards.

Jericho gets off and looks regrettful about his actions. He helps Scotty up.

COMMERCIAL

We come back and take another special look at Triple H. The commentator talk about how unfortunate it is that he will no longer grace a WWF ring.

WWF Title Match: Stone Cold Steve Austin (c) vs. Chris Benoit

12 minute match

Brilliant match with an obviously hot crowd. Almost wish I had time to transcribe matches for every show.

Austin has the advantage and Vince McMahon makes his way out.

Benoit counters a Stunner and gets a Crippler Crossface.

McMahon in and kicking Benoit.

Austin joining in the attack

Jericho is in the ring. He's helping Benoit. Benoit and Jericho chase off McMahon and Austin.

Austin left his belt. Jericho and Benoit both go to pick it up at the same time. Each holding the WWF Title, shades of Smackdown. Jericho lets it go and claps for Benoit, who holds it for a moment then takes it outside and hands it to Stu. Stu holds up the WWF Title. Benoit and Jericho clap for him.

The following article appeared on Indybay. Stephanie is a prominent activist with World Can't Wait who previously spoke for the RCP Branch in the Bay Area.

On August 4, a partial hearing of Stephanie Tang took place in Alameda County Court. Tang, a long time organizer with World Can’t Wait (WC), is facing up to one year in jail and $1000 in fines, stemming from an ongoing effort by the WCW to shut down the Marine Recruiting Station in Berkeley. This specific charge is connected to a demonstration on Feb. 22, in which Tang, although assaulted by Berkeley Police, was charged with obstruction of an officer. The prosecution refused to drop the case, and a trial date has been set. During the hearing supporters of Tang filled the court room wearing orange, which symbolizes torture victims, an issue that Tang and the World Can't Wait has been protesting.

Many people from World Can’t Wait have been arrested at the Berkeley Marine Station, but all except for Tang had their charges dropped. Tang stated, “I am the only protestor actually facing any charges. I am known as a leader of the local World Can’t Wait movement by the community – and by the police – which may factor into the authorities’ approach to my case.”

The World Can't Wait is a national movement that has been organizing resistance to torture and demanding that Bush and others in his administration be impeached and put on trial for war crimes. In Berkeley the local chapter has been involved with putting pressure on and trying to shut down the Marine Recruiting Station. Currently the World Can't Wait is organizing people from the Bay Area and all over the U.S. to go to the Democratic National Convention to demonstrate against the Democrats. The WCW is accusing the Democrats of supporting the War in Iraq, and authorizing torture and the destruction of civil liberties.

Man I've been banging on about wrestling a lot lately...I expect it to continue, otherwise I wouldn't have set up this thing, but you know.

The Briscoe Brothers vs. The Age of the Fall (Philedelphia Street Fight)
(ROH Take No Prisoners, 16/03/08)
Right, if I am watching a Street Fight featuring the Briscoes against members of The Age of the Fall, I want to see Jimmy Jacobs, not Necro Butcher and Joey Matthews. I quite liked Matthews in WWE (he was the lesser member of MNM but who wouldn't be next to John Morrison), and I don't even really mind Necro Butcher as long as he sticks to hardcore matches, so either of those two WITH Jacobs would have been fine. Instead, he spends this show in some 'undisclosed location' ripping off Fight Club to a bunch of random followers. Anyway, my man-crush on Jimmy Jacobs aside, this was still enjoyable. Necro can really give and take a hell of a beating in these type of matches, he's not shy about just getting his head caved in. Speaking of which, Mark Briscoe's head is literally pissing blood. Blimey. I like the Briscoes, both in crazy "loads of double-teams" tag team matches, and as angry redneck brawlers. A really cool thing in this match is the Briscoes going for the spingboard Doomsday Device on Necro, who just swats Mark out of mid-air by just punching the fuck out of him. The end is awesome too; after Jay Briscoe gives Matthews the Death Valley Driver through a table setup in the corner, Mark does a massive splash off the scaffolding onto Necro Butcher and another table, and the Briscoes are victorious. Yay!

Raven vs. Diamond Dallas Page vs. Chris Benoit (Triple Jeopardy Match)
(WCW Uncensored, 15/03/98)
I was on a bit of a Raven kick recently, he might be a bit of a fat washed-up clown now, but that doesn’t change how awesome he used to be. This match is really fun, introducing a lot of three-way spots and sequences that we’ve seen a lot of now, but back then it was something fresh and new and seemed genuinely chaotic. Same thing with some of the weapon use; the old “everything INCLUDING the kitchen sink!” line was killed dead in the WWF Hardcore division, but this was the first time I remember seeing it. The three of them keep making and breaking alliances, which is cool, and they do a courageous underdog thing with Page, after he gets completely killed on the outside, but crawls back to the ring and actually manages to win after a top-rope Diamond Cutter through a table on Raven. I also liked Raven using Lodi’s cardboard sign as a weapon, but GASP there’s a metal stop sign hidden inside it! Good match, watch it.

Raven vs. Diamond Dallas Page (Bowery Death Cage Match)
(WCW Slamboree, 17/05/98)
This is basically a Last Man Standing match in a cage with a roof on it, with weapons already inside the cage. The wacky name is a good sign that Raven came up with it himself after a night of PCP, bisexual orgies and Pearl Jam. I was never a big DDP fan, but WCW crowds at this point obviously were, he’s so fucking popular. To be fair to him, he does a good job in this match, which is basically show charisma while beating someone up with weapons/getting beaten up with weapons, and DDP could always do that. He tries to hang Raven from the roof of the cage with a noose, which is quite mean, and later a VCR gets used, allowing Bobby Heenan to make plenty of jokes. Raven has a riot squad with him for some reason, and two of them get into the cage and attack Page, revealing themselves to be members of Raven’s Flock (Horace Hogan and Billy Kidman). This sets up a great bit where Kidman is hanging from the roof of the cage and DDP swings him by the legs straight into a Diamond Cutter. DDP ends up winning the match after another Diamond Cutter (possibly on a chair, I can’t remember). Raven in WCW was swank.

The Age of the Fall vs. BxB Hulk & Shingo Takagi
(ROH Dragon Gate Challenge II, 28/03/08)
I went out of my way to watch this match because I’m becoming a fan of BxB Hulk and Shingo Takagi after seeing them a few times, and because the Age of the Fall are represented by Tyler Black and Jimmy Jacobs, instead of Joey Matthews and Zach Gowen or some other idiots. I wasn’t disappointed, I REALLY like Jacobs in violent brawls but I haven’t seen enough of him and Black in fast-paced tags, so this was cool, and if you’re going to have a match like that, getting some Dragon Gate people is the best possible step. Basically they go back and forth, busting out a load of sweet double-teams (my favourites being Hulk and Shingo’s missile dropkick/backdrop suplex, and Jacobs and Tyler’s torture rack/senton/kick to face combo), as well as Age of the Fall obviously taking the chance to pick on effeminate anime character Hulk until Shingo got to make the save and go wild with suplexes and lariats and all manner of tomfoolery. There’s plenty of other cool stuff that happens, as it’s a really fun match, but I really need to limit the amount of times I stay up until past 3 am watching/writing about wrestling, so I’ll just say that I very much enjoyed this match and I was impressed by everyone involved; I already knew how awesome Jimmy Jacobs was but I’m now fully convinced about everyone else too. Hooray!

Bryan Danielson vs. Delirious
(ROH The 100th Show, 22/04/06)
Bryan Danielson is clearly great, Delirious has entertained me the times I’ve seen him. I keep reading online that his act has gotten really stale now, but I haven’t seen him enough for that to happen, and this is before all that anyway so whatever. This was during Danielson’s “Best In The World” heel gimmick, and it’s really good as a showcase for that. Delirious doesn’t even get an offensive move in for seven or eight minutes, it’s all just the American Dragon caving his head in, putting him in various submissions and basically prawning him. This was during the whole ROH vs. CZW feud, so there’s some CZW rubes in the crowd who are heckling the match (not enough light bulbs and/or forward rolls I imagine), and you can tell Dragon loves playing up to it and just being a dick to them. This isn’t a total squash, it sets up that Danielson is clearly ranked well above Delirious, but Delirious is gutsy and what not, so eventually he does make a comeback and it’s pretty fun. However, it only annoys Danielson, who throws him into the ringpost head-first, then rips his mask apart and bites the wound. What a fucking prick. Delirious manages to make another comeback eventually, and actually has Danielson in trouble with the Cobra Stretch, but after a back superplex (in which Delirious apparently sliced his hand open pretty deep on ROH’s shabby corner posts), Danielson gets him with the repeated MMA elbows to the head and just fucks him up until the referee stops the match. This was a pretty cool match, as expected.

Taped in Anaheim, CA
Opening Promo Time with Shane McMahon
Some people may wonder why he did what he

Taped in Anaheim, CA

Opening Promo Time with Shane McMahon
Some people may wonder why he did what he did to The Hardys on Monday
They were simply a necessary casualty.
Some may wonder why if Shane McMahon has 50% control over the World Wrestling Federation, why he would even care about WCW. The answer to that should be obvious. The WWF is his dad’s company. It doesn’t matter who has control. It doesn’t matter that he’s able to make a title match. The WWF will always belong to Vince McMahon. But WCW is Shane’s. It is the Phoenix that will rise from the ashes and drive Vince out of this business for good. Then he will merge the two companies and under the banner WCW, this company will thrive once again.
Without further ado, Shane introduces the first official members of the new WCW.
The Dudley Boys Arrive
Bubba: In 1999 when we were brought into this company, we were already multiple time ECW Champions and the most dominant and over team in the sport. So when we decided to sell our souls to the devil, we expected it to come with rewards. Instead we went into our first creative meeting and they said, you know what was funny Bubba? When you used to stutter. You do that on Raw and you’ll get real heat and draw money. So I did it. And for 2 years I have taken every damn insulting idea they’ve had and we’ve run with it. I assaulted women because I was told to. We used tables in matches we could have won in three minutes, we rehashed a stupid beer commercial every time we wrestled for your entertainment. Then Shane McMahon reminded us, we could be just as over and just as entertaining, just by beating people’s asses, like we’ve always done. Matt and Jeff, it wasn’t personal. No, you know what it was. You couldn’t lace our boots, but still you guys and Edge and Christian you’re prettier than us, so you’re the poster boys. We’re just the big ugly dudes who have been carrying you for two years. Well no more. Our time is now.
D-Von: Testify

COMMERCIAL

King of the Ring Qualifying Match: X-Pac vs. Rikishi
5- minute match
X—Pac comes off the top rope right into a superkick by Rikishi. The Samoan Drop finishes it.

Dean Malenko is summoned to William Regal’s office. He knows that for some time Dean has felt unchallenged for his Light Heavyweight Title. Dean says in two months as champion, he’s barely broken a sweat. Regal has a feeling that will change tonight. He will meet a newcomer to the WWF tonight in a non-title match. Dean looks forward to it.

Elsewhere, Shane McMahon now has his own office, adorned with WCW merchandise. He tells the Dudleys that his surprises aren’t over just yet. Tonight the Dudleys will face Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho.

COMMERCIAL

King of the Ring Qualifying Match: The Big Show vs. Spike Dudley
5-minute match
Show laughs the match off and toys with Spike
Spike starts to get some offense and actually knocks Show out of the ring.
Suicide dive hits by Spike
Show gets angry and grabs Spike and chokeslams him through the announce table
That gets the DQ
Show starts to tear apart the ringside area

COMMERCIAL

In the back, Chris Jericho asks William Regal if he will get the shot at Benoit’s title at King of the Ring. Regal says he and Mr. McMahon have given it a lot of thought and decided that yes, Chris Jericho will have his rematch at King of the Ring. If they beat the Dudleys tonight.

Dean Malenko vs. ?
The Opponent is none other than Yoshohiro Tajiri.
4-minute match
Dean is completely unprepared falling to all of Tajiri’s offensive moves
Tajiri ducks a clothesline off the irish whip and a kick to the ribs followed by one to the head finishes it.

COMMERCIAL

Promo Time with Stone Cold Steve Austin
He doesn’t know what the hell’s going on anymore
WCW is in the WWF, Shane McMahon is telling him who to fight.
He doesn’t give a damn what Shane says, he’s not fighting The Undertaker
Shane is out. He doesn’t want there to be any hard feelings between Stone Cold and himself. He’s doing what’s best for this business. Keeping WCW out of Vince’s hands was best. Giving wrestlers the opportunity to get out of Vince’s web is for the best. Having Austin fight Undertaker is for the best. No longer will the WWF be run by a tyrant, Shane McMahon and WCW will give the fans what they want. If Austin doesn’t fight Undertaker at KOTR, he will be stripped of the WWF Title.

COMMERCIAL

Rhyno is in Regals office. He wants to know how many more people he has to Gore before he gets taken seriously. He wants a shot at the WWF Title. William Regal assures him that that is not going to happen. But since he barged in here so rudely he can defend his own belt tonight. Against former champion Steve Blackman.

Grandmaster Sexay vs. Bull Buchanan
5-minute squash
Bull finishes Sexay off with a TKO

Dean Malenko tells Regal he wants Tajiri again on Monday. Regal says that’s fine, but this time it will be for the gold.

COMMERCIAL

Edge and Christian are in the back. Christian doesn’t think it’s fair that Edge got Bob Holly on Monday and he had to wrestle Kane. Edge tells him to relax. Once Edge wins King of the Ring, he’ll totally share the throne. They can be co-kings. Christian doesn’t seem quite as grateful as Edge might like him to be.

WWF Hardcore Title: Steve Blackman vs. Rhyno ©
5-minute match
The kendo stick comes into play early and often
Blackman gets a big kick that sends Rhyno into the ropes.
Another kick misses and Rhyno finishes it with the Gore.
Rhyno on the mic, he wants Austin and if somebody doesn’t give him what he wants, they’re all gonna get Gored!

In the back, Chris Jericho passes on what Regal told him earlier. Benoit says then they’d better win.

COMMERCIAL

The Dudley Boys vs. Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho
14- minute match
Very good match
The ref gets bumped late and the Hardy Boys enter the ring
They take out D-Von and throw him over the top.
Benoit hits the Swan Dive headbutt on Bubba and looks over at Jericho as if he may not cover.
Jericho hits the lionsault and the ref recovers to count 3.
Jericho retrieves the IC belt. Benoit tries to take it but Jericho is reluctant to release it.

We are live from San Jose, CA
Opening Promo Time with Stone Cold Steve Austin
Austin puts himself ov

We are live from San Jose, CA

Opening Promo Time with Stone Cold Steve Austin
Austin puts himself over, gloating about driving HHH out of the WWF
He got rid of the Rock. He got rid of Triple H. Hell, he’ll get rid of anybody who stands in his way.
The Hardy Boys interrupt. They can’t help but notice that no matter how hard Austin tries, he can’t get rid of them.
He points out that since Linda has no more power, getting rid of them just got a hell of a lot easier.
The Dudley Boys are out. They challenge Austin to not play politics, but instead to let his ass cash his checks. Tonight they’ll stand beside the Hardy Boys to take on Austin, Regal, Angle and Show.
Austin accepts the challenge.

COMMERCIAL

Back from the break, Austin finds William Regal and Kurt Angle and tells them to forget about last night, they got to get their heads in the game. Tonight, they’ll get revenge on the Hardys.

WWF Hardcore Title: Albert vs. Rhyno ©
6-minute match
Lots of weapons get used in this one including a street sign and a trash can.
In the end, Albert sets up Rhyno for a trash can lid shot, but Rhyno Gores him for the 3.

In the back, WCW 1 limo pulls up and Shane McMahon has arrived.

Elsewhere Perry Saturn catches up with Dean Malenko in the back. He wants to know why Dean has been avoiding his calls. Dean tells him it’s because he’s become a shell of his former self and a joke amongst the boys in the back. Eddie is gone and Benoit has moved up the ladder. It’s time for them to go their separate ways too. William Regal walks into the scene. He is glad Dean feels this way, because tonight qualifying starts for the King of the Ring Tournament and the first match is Perry Saturn vs. Dean Malenko and it’s next.

COMMERCIAL

Stone Cold gives The Big Show a pep talk. Reminding him that he is a monster.

King of the Ring Qualifying Match: Perry Saturn vs. Dean Malenko
7-minute match
Technically sound with each guy trying to outwrestle the other
Saturn goes for a shot off the second turnbuckle, but Dean is able to kick him in the gut
Double underhook Powerbomb followed by the Texas Cloverleaf and Perry has no choice but to tap.

Regal and Austin are in Vince’s locker room discussing their plans for the Hardys when The Undertaker arrives. He wants to know where Vince is. They assure him they don’t know.

COMMERCIAL

In the back, Christian and Edge reek of awesomeness and their 8th tag team title. William Regal congratulate the two of them and tells them both they will have a chance to qualify for KOTR. They are very excited. Regal tells Edge he will get his shot tonight. One on One with Hardcore Holly.

WWF European Title: X-Pac vs. Test ©
7- minute match
X-Pac uses martial arts and some aerial moves, but Test is able to counter with his power stuff.
X-Pac misses the Bronco Buster. Test gets the full-nelson slam and hits the flying elbow for 3.

Turn of the Hour Promo Time with The Undertaker
The Undertaker wants Vince McMahon out here right now.
Vince does come out and looks pissed.
He wants to know what the hell The Undertaker was thinking last night. He should fire him right now. Does the Undertaker forget who he works for?
The Undertaker didn’t forget anything, he just doesn’t give a damn anymore. He wants to be WWF Champion and he suggests Vince makes that happen or he’ll have hell to pay.
Vince says do what he wants. He can’t hurt his loved ones, he doesn’t love anybody. He has majority power in the WWF again, which means he is in charge. And as long as that is the case, The Undertaker will never receive another shot at the WWF Title.

In the back Austin and the other loyalists have a good laugh about this situation, when Kane walks in and stares each of them down. They all cower a little.

COMMERCIAL

Vince joins the Loyalists. He tells Show, Regal and Angle that they will all have chances to qualify for the King of the Ring as a reward for their loyalty. As for Stone Cold, at King of the Ring, he will go one on one with a cold Steveweiser and watch the show from Vince McMahon’s private suite.

King of the Ring Qualifying Match: Edge vs. Hardcore Holly
7 -minute match
Very fast paced match with some comedy spots mixed in
Hardcore gets Edge in the corner and begins throwing fists, but Edge scoops the legs and pins him with his feet on the ropes.

[gallery]

Reviewed By : Steve “Rockamaniac” Wilson of MainEventRadio.com

There is no debating the fact that women’s wrestling has never been as popular as it is now. Numerous all female federations have popped up throughout North America, meanwhile the TNA knockouts have been taking it a step further scoring the highest rated segments for the company week in and week out, and even main eventing TV on occasion. This influenced the WWE to create a second woman’s championship and give their females some more time to wrestle instead of pillow fighting. Therefore it’s no surprise that more and more female wrestling products are hitting the market, and today we look at two of the latest female DVD releases from Big Vision Entertainment in “Glamour, Glitz and Divas : The Untold story of American women’s wrestling” and “Wrestling Vixxens : The New Era”

This is actually an “Outside The Ropes” production, meaning it’s a documentary cut together using footage from RF Video’s extensive shoot interview archive. The first such production was entitled Life in the fast lane, which was about life on the road as a wrestler, and while that was enjoyable, the cutting and flow of the stories were somewhat random at times as I mentioned in my DVD review many months ago. However I was pleased to see that in “Glamour, Glitz and Divas” there is more of a specific flow to the DVD.

The main feature begins with tales of childhood and whether or not they were a fan of pro wrestling. The divas featured is quite an impressive line up from every era of pro wrestling, beginning with Moolah and Mae Young to Sensational Sherry to Luna Vachon to Sunny to Chyna and to today’s stars like Velvet Sky and Jackie Gayda, You get a perspective from a wide array of generations of Divas. From tales of childhood we now move into the decisions to enter the business and the training they sought out and whether they thought the fact that it’s a male dominated industry would hurt them.

Next up is a on the road feature with current female stars Talia Madison aka Velvet Skye and April Hunter. They touch on some of the afformentioned topics as they wait for their breakfast to arrive. This proves to be an interesting little feature as you get to see a day in the life of a independent wrestling diva in hyper speed.

Love stories is the next topic which is a look at the divas mixing business with pleasure so to speak as many of them found love within the business. This includes Sunny revealing the intimate details of her and Shawn Michaels relationship from the 90’s which nearly resulted in her leaving Chris Candido to move in with Michaels.

A training seminar with Luna Vachon gives you a look at the diva taking the time to pass her knowledge on to those who are training and trying to get better on the scene today.

The inevitable subject when it comes to a divas documentary is catfights, lots of heat thrown Sable’s way here as well as Jackie Gayda’s way from Sunny, Even Moolah gets in on the cat fights ripping into Judy Gable. April Hunter main events the cat fights with Allison Danger with a worthy rant.

Some random spots wraps up the main feature and then the DVD extras offer up some solid female indy wrestling matchups with the up and coming stars of today. 6 matches in total including Sara Del Ray vs Nikki Roxx, Cheerleader Melissa vs Mercedez Martinez, April Hunter vs Talia “Velvet Sky” Madison, Sumie Sakai vs Daizee Haze, Kylie Pierce vs Angela with Special guest referee Sherri Martel, and finally Luna Vachon vs Alicia.

I really enjoyed this DVD, as I mentioned it flowed well, perhaps one segment was misplaced but the 95 minute main feature and the hour worth of bonus matchups easily justify the 14.99 asking price and makes for a nice little addition to your wrestling DVD collection.

Pulling a 180 now, we look at “Wrestling Vixxens : The New Era”. The original Wrestling Vixxens was a pornographic based website featuring mainly Missy Hyatt and Sunny many years back. This new incarnation takes many of the TNA knockouts as well as a couple of the other hottest divas on the indy scene today and for the most part has them pose for pictures in various sexy outfits set to sultry music and put in slow motion. So Cal Val, ODB, Talia “Velvet Sky” Madison, Rain aka Peyton Banks as well as Daffney and my personal favourite ROH/WSX star Lacey are the vixens featured. The DVD’s back cover might promise the chance to get to know the girls behind the gimmicks, but very few talk segments are on the DVD, Talia Madison probably gets the most talk time, but considering the point of this DVD is to serve as hot semi pornographic material as opposed to a documentary then it certainly lives up to expectations and if you’re a fan of any one of these girls then picking up this DVD could be of interest for you.

“Glamour, Glitz and Divas : The Untold story of American women’s wrestling” as well as “Wrestling Vixxens : The New Era” is now available on DVD from Big Vision Entertainment. Check out BVDVD.com for more information or to order your own copy. You can also ready my previous DVD reviews at MainEventRadio.com/Reviews.htm

…this one that I’m about to talk about may be even more nonsensicle than the reversalist

...this one that I'm about to talk about may be even more nonsensicle than the reversalist of battle royals.

Doubtlessly, you have heard by now that the promotion would like to turn Sting heel for a program with current champion Samoa Joe.

The stupidity of this idea is so great I can't even think of what kind of scale you would need to measure such a thing.

Let us go back to September 1999 and fall brawl. Sting challenging Hulk Hogan for the WCW Heavyweight championship. If you weren't a WCW fan back then, congratulations on keeping your sanity. Anyway, Hulk Hogan had only slightly over a month prior turned back in to the red and yellow Hogan and away from being Hollywood.

So they have this match and while I don't remember the exact sequence of events I do remember a bunch of dudes interfeerring and the climax was Sting hitting Hogan with a baseball bat and turning heel.

I remember that part of the match so vividly for one reason and one reason only.

It got the biggest babyface pop on the night. Yes, Sting's initial heelturn worked so perfectly that it got him a huge pop against the nearly babyfaced Hulk Hogan. Oh, but WCW was all about giving this one the Ol' college try.

Before I get in to the next failure, I need to point out that his initial heel turn wasn't done by the Vince Russo regime of WCW creative. It was actually done shortly after Eric Bischoff was removed as President and they had a brief window of time before the Russo team came in. So all of the pundits talking about this as being a Russo failure in 99 are mistaken. I may think Russo is a legitimate dunder-headed moron but I'm not going to give him credit for horrible ideas that weren't his. In fact, Russo pretty much undid the whole thing when he first arrived at WCW not that there was much to undo as you're about to find out.

So anyway, back to Sting's heel turn. The next night on Nitro, the next sign that this was never going to happen the way they wanted unfolded.

Sting and Lex Luger ended up doing a 2-1 beatdown of Ric Flair. This was noteworthy because they were in Flair country for that show, if not Charlotte specifically. So Sting and Luger are doing a beatdown of Flair and Luger had long past gotten to pretty hated territory and not because he was a good heel.

Throughout the beatdown of Flair, in Flair country, that part can't be emphasized too much...

They still were cheering Sting.

Yes, a heel beatdown of Ric Flair in his territory wasn't good enough to get people to boo Sting. He wrestled Chris Benoit while a heel and the crowd was split at best.

As I noted before, they tried for a little while longer but pretty soon after it was started, the idea was forgotten.

It is now 9 years later and Sting's career is approaching the finish line. Some of the people who are in TNA now and should no better because they were in WCW in 99 when this failed horribly still think this has a chance of working. The words moronic idiot aren't strong enough to describe how foolish this idea is.

Nothing has changed. People don't want to boo Sting, they didn't in 1999 and they don't want to boo him today. Some people think that if the guy tried hard enough and put his heart in to being a heel he could get boos. That's a nice theory, but if the people don't want to boo a guy, they're not going to boo him. If failed heel turns for Goldberg, Steve Austin and Sting V 1.0 didn't teach anyone that and if they haven't learned it from Ric Flair then I guess wrestling will be plagued for years with promotions trying to get people to boo characters they don't want to boo.

Plus, what exactly is the point of turning Sting heel anyway? If the argument is that it is something different, hey, dogshit flavored soda is something different too but that doesn't mean it would be a popular selling drink.

You can't force people to accept something they don't want. That is even truer for TNA than it is for WWE because the TNA fan base is so much smaller and thus when that audience rejects something it is even more obvious.
The only reason I can think of is that someone feels the need to validate their ego. They want to be able to say that they were the person who got the people to boo Sting which is something nobody has ever been able to do on a national level. So satisfy your own ego whether it makes business sense or not and whether it makes 1 more dime or not and you've got a good example of the Wrestling Booking for Retards 101 class sylabus.

So if anyone in TNA sees this. Sting has been a guy who's whole career has kind of been made in to a running joke because he's been turned on by so many partners over the years. Anytime someone is called a dumb babyface it is in reference to the number of times Sting would get turned on by tag partners.
But if the man has reservations and is cool to the idea of turning heel then it is an example of how the man isn't nearly as dumb as the character. It is also more proof he's a million times smarter than the people proposing this foolishness.

But if for some reason he can be talked in to it, take this to the bank.

It will fail

When it does, I will never let you live it down because I warned you

It will fail because people don't want to see it and because this creative team doesn't have the ability to overcome that problem. I'll never let you live it down because I told you so and I am the exact kind of person who will and does say: "I told you so".

So when it bombs to the surprise of nobody but TNA creative, I hope there is room outside of that Nashville TV studio for a billboard that says:

Sting's heel turn was a failure just like I told you it was going to be. So hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha you retards.

The initial turn will get people to boo, I promise that much. They won't be booing Sting though, they'll be booing the very idea of being asked to boo Sting and they may punctuate their feelings with another "fire Russo" chant. Only this time, it should be fire everyone.

Those who do not learn from the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them.
