*note this is one of the old posts I actually wrote a long time ago– just FTR*
*…But as

*note this is one of the old posts I actually wrote a long time ago-- just FTR*

*...But as I am writing it now, I've modified it significantly so as to blend better with current thought, and also to incorporate recent concepts when relevant...*

As I explained in Playing the Victim, one of my co-workers was suffering from acute depression, and asked for advice. The solution I gave her was *obviously* to stop "playing the victim", and accept responsibility for her life - thus empowering herself and providing the psychological leverage needed to deal with the other issues, and begin progressing with life again. Although this solution is logically valid, I've become to realize more and more how much truth cannot be logically justified -so, for lack of better feelings, I should "be more considerate of her feelings"- for lack of better phrasing - So this depression needs to be handled more gradually, using "gentler" methods :P

Due to the ever-constant chaos already eminent in her life, dealing with it logically would be impossible, because logic has already become irrelevant. I assured her that I would see what I could do in finding a [irony alert!] more *reasonable* solution, and fortunately, I think I've found one. Well, from the looks of things the *best* solution is a work-in-progress, but at the very least it's something to work off of. Of course the solution has nothing to do with drugs. I was medicated for several years in the past, and although I definitely had, and *have* the illnesses I was diagnosed with, I found I did far better without them. Come to think of it, the several different medications I was given did little more than sedate me. As far as I can tell, that was about it. Don't ask why, I have know clue :P

As I mentioned in that same post ("Playing the Victim") I was able to deal with my psychological issues best (by an overwhelming margin) without medication; if anything the medication just made things worse. So although I cannot speak for anyone else, From my person experiences I would definitely recommend against the ingestion of psychological drugs of any kind. Treatment is frequently contrasted with "Cure", being only a temporary/partial solution (i.e. to minimize symptoms)- Cures are permanent.

I think the fact that medication only minimizes symptoms is particularly interesting- after all, "Symptoms" are the proof that the body/mind/etc. is fighting against the disease/etc. If the symptoms disappear, that doesn't mean the person is better. In fact, if the disease/etc. still exist despite symptoms, that should be considered a bad thing, since the immune system is essentially being suppressed, allowing the disease freely roam, resulting in far worse [in this case] mental health. Well, that's just speculation on my part, but such an opinion is also implied in "I Never Promised you Roses". In the cases of depression, the "cure" might well be to deal with the problem as described in "Playing the Victim"- however, for now, a temporary solution [*treatment*] should suffice.

Among many-- more minor illnesses, I have Bipolar- previously known as "manic-depressive" disorder. The previous name is much more descriptive, but I guess they're trying to be more politically correct :P I regularly go through cycles- between depressive and more manic states; I maintain a more "normal" demeanor in-between. The upside and downside of Bipolar is the same: the cycles are predictable. That is- I only get depressed or manic "when I'm supposed to"- this makes cycles very predictable, and I can schedule accordingly, since it works like clockwork. But of course, no one likes getting depressed-- well, I'm sure plenty of people like getting manic though :P Then again, I don't ever get anxious (for certain reasons that I'll cover in later posts) so I don't have to deal with that part of the manic cycle...but for whatever its worth, that's the downside.

A while ago I realized that I could completely thwart the depression cycles (although the manic isn't so bad) by making a habit of automatically rejecting the logical validity of all negative thoughts. Although I did not realize it then, I had already been doing such a thing for a few years now. But I have also realized that, in accordance with balance, to disregard any emotion logically, I had to lose my emotions; this is because to logically get rid of emotions, one must believe any previous emotions to never have existed- this is necessary because emotions are the backbone of passion and desire- no decision can follow through without one's emotions backing it.

Getting back to habits though, as I detailed in [insert post], it's possible to force oneself to change the perception of anything you want, even if it is the exact opposite of the original and natural perception. In that experiment, as I was walking in the freezing cold (of last winter, to be exact) I decided to imagine the pain as being pleasure, and concentrated on the cold being a good thing, setting aside all "common sense" in favor of this perception. The result was a bit surprising- by concentrating the pain completely went away- it was very exciting seeing how perceptions can be manipulated this way.

The only thing lacking with this is that one must concentrate to experience the conversion. That's where habits come in. The purpose of habits is to keep of memory of thing that are done often, and usually require a degree of concentration. It is an adaptation that allows us to perform tasks better the more that we do it, because those things we've already concentrated on a lot are stored in our "cache", which frees up our "memory" to focus on the finer details, or other tasks. Although perhaps I'm a bit partial due to my hobbies, I think that the human brain is strikingly similar to the computer- or, even more likely, the other way around.

As a result of these habits, I have not felt depressed for a few years now.

*Note "felt"- "depression can mean more than one thing; "felt" meaning that I have not had any sad or depressing thoughts for a while. In retrospect BTW this is not a good thing- to accomplish this required "unbreacheable" psychological walls to be put up, resulting in an almost completely nonchalant perspective towards everything; the root meaning of depression ("to slow down"/ "fall" / "be undone" /etc) is still true even now- the depression just does not include the emotional components (i.e. sadness/melancholy/etc.)*

There was one brief period a while back (see Self-Awareness post ) but that only last half an hour. I was thrust into a terrible depression, due to not being able to prepare a decent resume (I had no work experience at the time). But, seeing that I needed it to get done, I forcibly moved myself forward, and was able to pull off what had appeared to be impossible, thus effectively ending that "episode". Recalling this incident has also played a key role in determining another, more "reasonable" solution to my coworker's problem.

All of "today" (*see top*), as expected, I experienced the usual wave of depression. Well, I say depressed, but (as explained above) the only symptom I still experience is a complete lack of motivation to do anything productive. On these days I might normally do nothing but watch anime- and in WCS even lack the motivation to play games. But even when I have such days, going to work is not a problem. Actually, on these days going to work is actually more of a vacation, anyway. Much of the reason for this is explained in Opportunity- that is, working each day with the awareness that half my pay is not in the salary, but in the opportunity to work. As I've discovered over time, the reason why working can be so fulfilling- is because of expectations- knowing that our coworkers and supervisors expect us to do the job well, and fullfilling those expectations, fills us with a wonderful sense of pride. The way I see it, this is "running away from ourselves"- here's why:

Who we are- that which we perceive ourselves to be, and also who and that which we perceive others to be, is dependent on memory, which also means that we can only see ourselves and other people as we were in the past. That is because we are contantly changing and growing, clarifying and building upon who we are every second, although the changes may not be noticed for years. Because of that, the person we perceive ourselves to be, is actually the past, and is not entirely accurate. The irony (and amusement) of this, is that we are able to change in the first place for this same reason. See, to move forward and grow, we must leave our past behind us, which I believe is a necessity due to balance. Interestingly enough, it is also a central theme for reincarnation. So "running away" from ourself in essence means "leaving behind the past" to move towards a better future. So perhaps a more optimistic phrasing would be "running to" (although that would totally kill the visual)

Since I am a restless individual, lacking in patience (although I have aquired a significant patience these past few months, in recognition of the need) I first dealt with my lack of motivation by being confrontational (i.e. a complete ass) with my roommates. Thinking about it now, that initial approach is strikingly similar to Linkin Park's song "Breaking the Habit". From what I can tell, this journey I'm going through has an extremely close likeness that the journey that Linkin Park depicts in their music, so I often listen to the words of their songs for guidance. As the contributers (of that song) in Linkin Park did though, I realized that there were better ways of dealing with it, that I needed to 'break the habit'.

So I started settling down, and played games with them instead. Here I realized another way of self-treating depression. Summing it all up, a person's psychological health is primarily dependent on one factor- pride. This is why it's important to not play the victim- depression is caused by insecurity. The opposite of insecurity is self-control. Taking control of a situation is an active way of alleviating insecurity (and thus depression), but it's likely that in most cases of depression, the person's state-of-mind renders them incapable of taking the initiative- thus a passive response is necessary. By playing games with my roommates that I knew I would win, and by following through with that expectation, I am able to alleviate my insecurity in a passive manner. That is, it required no initiative, because they already wanted to play- I only had to say "yes". Thus, one of the best ways to alleviate depression passively, without initiative, is to put oneself in an environment where we will succeed, and have the expectations of others to drive and support that success.

With both the resume incident and the days that I played games to relieve depression, the key factor is power. In one way or another, empowering oneself plays a vital role in allowing us to move on. To put in another way, the most efficient way to get over depression is to "pet your ego" by showing off your strengths to others. Pride is, after all, one of our greatest needs as humans, making this a reliable "quick fix" for depression

Uluwatu is the most famous wave of Bali. There is always some swell here so it's also always crowded. The spot offers several waves which are working with different swells and tides:

The Peak: best at mid and high tide. Closes out at low tide. In front of the cave. it's the most consistant. Short and powerful waves, tubes. The take off is moving. It works from 1ft to 8ft. The most crowded. One of the sections closes more than the others.

Racetracks: 100 meters further. fast wave, a lot of sections with easy tubes. Best at low tide and at 6ft. Can hold bigger swell. On the right tide and the right swell, "The Peak" connects with "Racetraks" (you need to be a good tuberider). Over 10ft, Racetracks breaks until "The Corner".

Inside Corner: best at mid and low tide with a 6ft swell. At first, it's a fun wave and the final bowl is a tube. Don't do a cutback just before the bowl! Take plenty of speed, stay high in the face and trim. You will pass the tube.

Outside Corner: the REAL Uluwatu. Works only with big swells (>8ft) and at low tide. The lower is the tide, the better is the wave. Take at least a 7' board. It is a succession of long walls good for carving and, sometimes, a beautiful final tube. The length is around 300 meters.

Temple: less surfed. 2 waves in fact ("Outside temple" and "The Bombies"). Only for experts because the water is very shallow. For thoses,it is a incredible tube when it works.

HOW TO KNOW WHEN TO GET RID OF YOUR CAR

Your Vehicle is no longer an asset and becomes a liability when:

* You're unable to find a buyer to take it off your hands.
* It was totalled in an accident & has been written off.
* It has little or no trade-in value.
* It's a lemon that you don't want to pass off on to someone else.
* You don't want to go through the hassle of selling it.
* It costs more to fix than it's worth.
* It's been sitting so long that it doesn't work anymore.

HOW JUNKING A CAR HELPS THE ENVIRONMENT

People often think of an auto junkyard as just another dump – but present day junkyards are actually a form of recycling and easy on the environment. Most junk cars that end up in a junkyard are either sold at auctions or sold for scrap. In fact, junkyards provide steel and many other metals to the building and car industries, ensuring that the metals from a junked car continue to be used for other vital purposes and help save important natural resources, as well. In addition, the modern junkyard is regulated by federal and state laws that have strict guidelines on the draining and disposal of all fluids from junk cars, so the junkyard is no longer a threat to the ground water in the area.

ENJOY THE BENEFITS

Pat yourself on the back and know that by you junking your car you are in actual fact earning yourself some well earned cash and at the same time helping the environment.

No title? Not to worry.... The local Licensing department has the forms. You will need a form releasing you of liability. You simply fill out the form stating that you DO NOT own the Body and that it is abandoned.

Who can resist a child who’s mastered the Queen Elizabeth wave! This is not a whiner or complainer, this is a girl who meets life with a smile, a promise, and a little mischief. As an aunt of 14 nieces, I can imagine Piper fitting right in to our family or any family who loves loud.

Piper’s personality sends out a vibe of honesty and purity. This chick has already figured out who she is and what she wants. Do I hear Piper for President?!? She’s comfortable in her skin and is smart enough to know how to get what she wants.

How does a girl get that ok with herself? She has people who believe in her, accept her as she is, and love her unconditionally. Piper’s a reflection of her Mom’s abilities, her Dad’s too. She hasn’t reached that age where parents are just someone to be rebelled against. Her hormones haven’t kicked in yet. And she is accustomed to being one of five so she’s not self-focused or self-absorbed. She’s a poster child for large families.

Piper’s proud of her Mom, she listened and clapped at the right times, even though it was after her bedtime. Piper’s loves her family. She held her brother with confidence and assurance. As the youngest daughter, not surprisingly, she looked to be in charge.

Piper is adorable! While on stage, she worked the crowd and wasn’t intimidated by a seasoned politician. When introduced, she had the social graces to know she was to stand and wave. I think Piper’s ready to be an aunt… and a VP! She's got my vote!

Real world physical examples based on tesla's earthquake experiments.

1. I was enjoying our cheep sams intex 18' dia pool and I was the only one in it. and started to exercise my arms against the water. I just can't get it out of me but I turn everything into an experiment. It is a round shape and from a perfect calm I watched the wave action interact with the sides as I used my hand to instigate a wave front. As the first wave makes it way back to me at least 10 to 15 wavelet are crossing over one another. Here is where the wave increases or is canceled out. I wonder in an infinite pool size how far the wave would go? The side are not solid, they rebound and effect the energy of the wave too.

I can make a simple feedback circuit - my hand is frequency input, my eyes are loosely connect to the wave height but not effect them and my brain adjusts the timing and frequency. The new input needs to be just as the wave rebounds away from me and behind it's crest. ( Note: If you try this at home you not want to have anybody watching, way to hard to explain if they don't understand. ) The important thing to remember is that my ability to increase the wave height is not based on water density, volume or depth or size of the pool, temperature, etc... Just the feedback of information. The other thing observed is that to much energy put in just was wasted as heat ( my muscle and tiredness ) too much frequency or too much breaking of the waters tension ( splashing ). So how little energy can I put in and get a satisfying wave height? You just have to get good at the timing.

2. Months later setting at my old 3' x 5' particle board desk at work which has a typical loose plastic cam lock holding it all together. and about 50 lbs of monitor and computer on it. I watched my coffee in the cup slosh back and forth when I bumped the side of the desk. Hum... same thing as the pool, bumping the desk at different frequencies the slosh got nulled out or magnified. The deck had a harmonic frequency. The loose frame, the size of the side board combine with the weight. "Pendulum" the coffee cup was just the detector. or was it involved?

3. NASA and other researchers have reported the the study of the suns surface has a fluctuation, vibrating as it where. And we have all heard about the background noise from the universe. As pointed out that basicly everything is singing with it's own tune. Just like in "Happy Feet".

4. In an episode of Mythbusters. they used an electromagnetic weighted oscillator and tuned it to different frequencies and had it clamped to a bridge to test the earthquake principle. but I say the critical element to all these experiments, is that you have to listen. They got the bridge to vibrate a little but no real result. Not as the tesla report that the whole area where the building he was at was about to crumble. Is the report exaggerated? I don't know.

5. One of my volunteer jobs that I enjoyed was running a soundboard. This is great practical experience with feedback the one thing you do not want as a sound man. Understanding it is a key to stopping it in sound reinforcement. We want our HHO electrolysis to "squeal". This is the absolute answer to making these things work. Uncontrolled feedback is very powerful and capable of damaging speakers and ears but remember the gain is not any higher. So output is greater than input. As the cascade of loops build upon themselves, only the new input is added to the whole. Gaining power on each pass thought the amplifying system. but how does it know how to add the power at the right time? Because it only accrues at it's room harmonics. So by parametrically eqing or "target out that frequency" you drastically remove the potential for it bother your audience. Can we do the opposite and get the squeal we need or to say it like Stanley Meyers did let the voltage do the work.

Rolled another 1 today. I may need to check my dice to see if they are weighted. That means I get to play with sound, something that has a great deal of appeal to me. I was listening to older recordings and came across a guitar track that peaked my ear. It was so largo and moody that I fell in love with it.. again, I guess. I wanted to extend a particular note once the attack had settled and extend it to infinity. I found a good loop point and repeated it several times so that in tandem with a sampler an easy loop point could be seen visually. It sounded a bit odd as it certainly sounds like a guitar at the beginning, but then hangs there more like an organ. I shaped the beginning of the wave to reduce the profound attack of the note and it started to sound a bit better.

Here's the finished sample.

I took that sample, brought it into Ableton Live (which I love for so many reasons, one of them being a super fast composition tool) and through a tone cluster together. I let it play out at the end to get the sense of the more 'organ' like tone. It's hypnotic and dreamy and makes you want to go to sleep... in a good way.

Listen to it here.

Tomorrow I hope to roll a 3, 4 or 5. Wish me luck!

Jo i høj grad.

FAQ's

Whats a PSP Portal?

PSP Portals are a set of web pages specially made for your psp, Some are made to resemble operating systems and mobile phones whilst others are a totally unique design such as the psp wave portal. Some PSP portals are offline which means you wont need an Internet connection to use them whilst others have on-line facilities such as msn where you will require a wireless Internet connection! Basically a psp portal is a set of webpages for your psp!

Is this Homebrew or Illegal?

No this portal isnt illegal or homebrew all it is is a set of webpages for your psp!

How do I install this psp portal?

Please consult the read-me file in the download, if you still dont understand then please make a comment on our website and we will do our best to help you.

Will this portal break or brick my psp?

No this portal wont harm your psp or brick it in any way. Though if something does go wrong we cannot be held responsable for any damage that may occur

I was standing on the shore
a mighty wave came with a big roar
i was far away
the wave rushed forward in the play
gently did it tickle me
i felt the cool waters with glee
a moment passed
the water receeded into the vast
how empty did i feel
without the water, was my life real?
forward did i move
longing for the waters soothe
the wave returned stronger yet
sweetly making me all wet
alas the wave pulled away
my whole soul craved for it to stay
further forward i moved on
my desire gettig strong
i saw in awe the wave so tall
standing over me and all
crushing down onto me
leaving me small in humility
the water pludged my every pore
opened and cured my every sore
i knew nought anymore
not of the sand, sun and shore
in the waters i dissolved
thus my being was evolved
now in the wave i ride
calling seekers to my side

It is in our idleness, in our dreams, that the submerged truth sometimes comes to the top.

There's nothing like a little nonsensical doodling to encourage the imagination. I'm not drawing anything I see in front of me. In fact, this drawing started with a simple set of curvy lines in the center of the page and then became something that now looks like a fantastical landscape or huge wave... Are those mountains or volcanoes in the distance?

Free your mind. It can be really fun!

Hedwig Aerts walks from the beach carying a surf board in Rockaway, Queens. (Tadej Znidarcic)

A row of surfers bobs like bath toys offshore, the noses of their boards pointing toward the horizon, sniffing for the perfect wave. A warm breeze stirs the sand, and anticipation mounts as they turn to paddle in slick formation to catch a wave. It's a postcard moment, and not from California either. Greetings from New York's surf mecca -- 90th Street Beach at Rockaway in Queens.

Although a diehard surfer destination for years, it wasn't until 2005 that Rockaway Beaches 87 through 91 were declared the first legally surfable beaches within New York City limits. The Surf Beach is open year round from dawn until dusk, with fall and winter being the best seasons for waves. "This was always the hotbed of surfing, because it's one of the most consistent breaks," explains Steve Stathis, longtime Rockaway resident and surfer. Stathis also owns Boarders, a surf and skateboard shop, along with his sons Christian and Craig. Christian, a New York City firefighter and laid-back surfer, embodies the balance of this proud working-class neighborhood and beach hangout.

The four-year-old shop is central to the surfing community, hosting surf and skate contests, plus a memorial surf day for local firefighter and surfer Richie Allen, who died responding to 9/11. Just a few blocks from the beach, you can rent boards and connect with instructors. Plus, they offer rental storage lockers for surfboards, making it easier for the growing number of wave-riders commuting from Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Spanning14 miles of shoreline, Rockaway is an urban oasis. "It's a different backdrop than someplace tropical, but it's great to be in New York and to jump in the water and surf – that's incredible," marvels Andrew Field. When not surfing, Field can be found behind the counter of Rockaway Taco, which opened this summer. Tucked into a residential block, the modest stand seems better suited for a coastal Mexican town, and the fresh, savory tacos and quesadillas are as authentic as any found south of the border.
Businesses like Boarders and Rockaway Taco contribute to the friendly, mellow vibe associated with the sport, which is only growing. Of the popularity Stathis says, "It's a healthy, fun sport. It's exciting when the waves are big and you see guys who can really surf well. By the same token, I always tell people if you're a beginner and you stand, the amount of enjoyment that you're getting out of it equals the enjoyment a pro guy would get by scoopin' up a 20 foot wave."

Newcomers to the sport, Jorge Sanchez and Jaime Diaz agree that once you're up, you're hooked. After watching surfers on this beach for years, the friends decided to get in on the action. "It's awesome," Sanchez says, "Not only for exercise, but it's fun to be out here doing something other than sunbathing or tossing a Frisbee." Diaz reveals Sanchez's other motive, "He comes here for the girls." Which of course might be part of the appeal, but as the Beach Boys said, "catch a wave and you're sittin' on top of the world" -- even in Queens.

Getting there:
Take the Far Rockaway A train to the Broad Channel Station.
There, board the Rockaway Park Shuttle to B. 90th Street
