7. Maybach 62 $385,250

The Maybach 57 and 62 were the first automobile models of the Maybach brand since the brand's revival by DaimlerChrysler. They are derived from the Mercedes-Benz Maybach concept car presented at the 1997 Tokyo Motorshow (which was based on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan). DaimlerChrysler attempted to buy the Rolls-Royce/Bentley marque when Vickers offered the company up for sale. When this attempt failed (they were outbid by BMW and Volkswagen respectively) they introduced the Maybach as a direct challenger in 2002. Both models are variants of the same ultra-luxurious automobile. The model numbers reflect the respective lengths of the automobiles in decimetres; the 57 is more likely to be owner-driven while the longer 62 is designed with a chauffeur in mind. The engine is a Mercedes-sourced 5.5-liter twin-turbo V12, generating 550 hp.

6. Mercedes SLR McLaren $455,500

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is a sports car and supercar automobile co-developed by DaimlerChrysler and McLaren Cars. It is assembled at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, England. Most people presume "SLR" to stand for "Sportlich, Leicht, Rennsport" (German for "Sport; Light; Racing"). The car's base price is £300,000 or $455,500. The SLR has a supercharged 5.5 (5439cc) litre dry sumped 90 degree V8. It produces 466.8 kW at 6500rpm (626 hp) and 780 N·m (575 ft·lbf)

5. Porsche Carrera GT $484,000

The Porsche Carrera GT is a supercar, manufactured by Porsche of Germany. The Carrera GT is powered by an all-new 5.7 litre V10 engine producing 612 SAE horsepower (450 kW). Porsche claims it will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62.5 mph) in 3.9 seconds and has a maximum speed of 330 km/h (206 mph), although road tests indicated that in actuality the car could accelerate from 0-60 in under 3.5 seconds and to 0-100 in 6.8 seconds and has a top speed of 335-340km/h.

4. Koenigsegg CCX $600,910

The Koenigsegg CCX is the latest supercar from Koenigsegg. CCX is an abbreviation for Competition Coupe X. The X commemorates the 10th anniversary of the completion and test drive of the first CC vehicle in 1996. The CCX is intended to be more suitable for the U.S. market and thus engineered to comply with US regulations. The CCX is powered by a Koenigsegg designed and assembled, all aluminium, 4700 cm³ DOHC 32-valve V8 based on the Ford Modular engine architecture enhanced with twin Rotrex centrifugal superchargers with response system, 1.2 bar boost pressure and an 8.2:1 compression ratio. The engine produces 806 hp (601 kW) and 678 lbf.ft (920 Nm) on 91 octane (U.S. rating) gasoline, 850 hp (634 kW) on 96 octane (Euro rating) gasoline and 900 hp (671 kW) on biofuel.

3. Pagani Zonda C12 F $741,000

The Zonda C12 F debuted at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show. It is the most extensive reengineering of the Pagani car yet, though it shares much with its predecessors including the 7.3 L V12. Power is increased to 602 PS (443 kW/594 hp) with a special clubsport model producing 650 PS (478 kW/641 hp). The company promises a 3.2 second sprint to 60 mph (97 km/h, a top speed over 374 km/h (225 mph) and it will be the queen in braking from 300 km/h to 0 (186 mph to 0). The Zonda F clubsport has a power to weight ratio of 521 bhp/ton (384 W/kg) . Compare, for example, the Enzo Ferrari which has a power to weight ratio of 483 bhp/ton (356 W/kg).

The Enzo Ferrari, sometimes referred to as the the Ferrari Enzo and also F60 is a 12-cylinder Ferrari supercar named after the company's founder, Enzo Ferrari. It was built in 2003 using Formula One technology, such as a carbon-fiber body, F1-style sequential shift transmission, and carbon-ceramic brake discs. Also used are technologies not allowed in F1 such as active aerodynamics. After a maximum downforce of 1709 pounds (775 kg) is reached at 186 mph (301 km/h) the rear spoiler is actuated by computer to maintain that downforce.

1. Bugatti Veyron $1,700,000

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is the most powerful, most expensive, and fastest street-legal production car in the world, with a proven top speed of over 400 km/h (407 km/h or 253 mph). It reached full production in September 2005. The car is built by Volkswagen AG subsidiary Bugatti Automobiles SAS and is sold under the legendary Bugatti marque. It is named after racing driver Pierre Veyron, who won the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1939 while racing for the original Bugatti firm. The Veyron features a W16 engine—16 cylinders in 4 banks of 4 cylinders.

According to Volkswagen, the final production Veyron engine produces between 1020 and 1040 metric hp (1006 to 1026 SAE net hp), so the car will be advertised as producing "1001 horsepower" in both the US and European markets. This easily makes it the most powerful production road-car engine in history.

"O download do novo álbum do CSS é um presente da Volkswagen para o público. The Vann's Ocoee Adventure: Part 1 -On to Walley World

My family set out to enjoy an adventurous day whitewater rafting in Tennessee at the Ocoee River about 2 hours north of our home in suburbia. It is my husband's 51st birthday and he insisted that no one bring their cell phones because he is so sick of seeing the kids texting constantly. We needed some real, good, old-fashioned family time. Go Dad! My daughter and I are a little scared. All the boys are not, of course.

Main Characters

Dad - my Husband Wesley

Max - my 20 year old son just home from a year in Costa Rica

Brice - my 20 year old son who is always gone somewhere else

Charlotte - my 15 year old daughter who only usually laughs with her friends

Mom - Me

Drew - the 16 year old cousin

Act I

Max: "Hey Dad, is that smoke coming out of the back of the van?"

Dad: "Aw man, we just blew a hose."

Charlotte: "It's not gonna blow up is it?"

Me: "Pull over up there in that driveway so we are out of the traffic."

We pull over and Wesley gets out to see what the problem is. He thinks he can fix it. He knows this because this vehicle has broken down on numerous occasions before.

Dad: "Is that a house or what up there? Brice, go see if they have a pair of pliers."

Brice: "Me? Why me?"

Wesley takes off up the hill alone. At this point, our rafting expedition is set to leave in just over an hour and we are about 30 minutes away still. I start laughing because it's just too funny. Wesley returns and says the man who owns the house, Randall, said to pull up there.

Me: "I knew this was gonna happen. Seriously I knew something like this was gonna happen."

It is my husband's birthday today, so he gets to do basically everything the way he wants. He loves this old Volkswagen Van and that's what he wanted to drive today. Everyone is actually smiling because this is so typical of our family. We are strikingly similar to Chevy Chase's family in Vacation. Walley world here we come!

Randall: "Yall's got lucky today, I'm usually gone by now, but I gotta ulcer or somethin', kep me up all night."

Dad: "So what do you do with all this equipment?"

Randall: "I kindly farm. Chickens and cattle. I was raised within a mile a where we are right now. Hey, you need a wranch?"

Dad: "No thanks I think I've just about got it."

Back in the van the rest of us wait.

Max: 'Do you think they have Wi-Fi here? Here Mom, plug in my computer and let me try."

Drew who has been watching a movie on his Touch iPod says "Naw I already tried...nothing here."

As Wesley and Randall finish up the repair, I decide that I will not give in to fear, but I will absolutely go down this river. Yeah, I can do it and if its my time to go, well that's just that. Randall goes to turn on the water hose to fill up something in our van. I notice his crisp blue Liberty overalls and his camouflage hat. There is also a new Ford Explorer and a Toyota Camry in the garage, along with some heavy equipment in the yard. Chickens and cows must be doing pretty good these days. We thank him and pull down the driveway with 45 minutes to get there.

Wesley looks over at me and grins, I shake my head and laugh.

Dad: "What?"

Me: "Nothing"

We all knew 'what.'

Porsche Buying Up More of VW - AutoAnything

Porsche has been picking up a lot of Volkswagen shares since 2005. As of April 2007, Porsche had more than a 30% stake in The Volkswagen Group. Although it tried to purchase a controlling stake in 2007, few were willing to sell their beloved shares for the price Porsche offered (read: low-ball offer). This year, however, Porsche made an offer that the VW exec's couldn't refuse. Although all the paperwork and legal drama has yet to unfold, it looks as though The VW Group will soon be under new ownership for a dazzling $15.73 billion dollars.

Comissão Européia dá sinal verde à fusão da Porsche com a Volkswagen

A Comissão Européia, o órgão executivo da União Européia, deu nesta quarta-feira sinal verde ao casamento entre a gigante do setor automobilístico alemão Volkswagen e sua compatriota Porsche.

Em um comunicado, o executivo europeu considerou que a compra do número um do automóvel na Europa pelo construtor de veículos esportivos "não entravaria de forma significativa o exercício de uma concorrência ativa na Europa".

A Porsche tem agora caminho livre para comprar 50% do capital da VW.

Segundo um porta-voz da Porsche, o dossiê foi submetido a cerca de 20 países. "Já obtivemos várias respostas positivas e estamos muito confiantes", disse, acrescentando que o "processo será concluído em outubro".

A Porsche já tem 31% da VW e mais opções para chegar a 36%, para satisfazer as exigências de Bruxelas.

A Volkswagen realizou ano passado um faturamento de 109 bilhões de euros, contra 7 bilhões de euros da Porsche (que tem 11.600 empregados) no exercício 2006/07.

Semestre

Segundo informou a Volks nesta quarta-feira, o lucro líquido subiu 31,3% no primeiro semestre, para US$ 4,092 bilhões, em comparação com os números do mesmo período de 2007, segundo resultados apresentados nesta quarta-feira. Conforme comunicado de imprensa, o faturamento cresceu entre janeiro e junho 3%, aos US$ 88,936 bilhões, em relação ao conseguido na primeira metade do ano anterior.

Nesta semana, a empresa informou que as vendas chegaram a 3,27 milhões de veículos até junho deste ano - 5,8% a mais do que no mesmo período do ano passado. Em junho, as vendas alcançaram o recorde de 573 mil automóveis, 2,4% a mais do que no mesmo mês de 2007. As vendas no Brasil cresceram 21,8%, para 316 mil automóveis.

A marca com maior volume mundial de vendas no primeiro semestre foi a Volks, com 1,9 milhão de veículos, 5,8% superior, enquanto a Audi vendeu 516 mil unidades (alta de 1,4%), e a Skoda, 367 mil (expansão de 17,9%). No entanto, a marca Seat registrou queda de 7,5% nas vendas entre janeiro e junho, para 206 mil automóveis.

O lucro líquido da fabricante alemã de automóveis Volkswagen subiu 31,3% no primeiro semestre, para US$ 4,092 bilhões, em comparação com os números do mesmo período de 2007, segundo resultados apresentados nesta quarta-feira.

Segundo a Volkswagen em comunicado de imprensa, o faturamento subiu entre janeiro e junho 3%, aos US$ 88,936 bilhões, em relação ao conseguido na primeira metade do ano anterior.

Além disso, o lucro operacional do maior produtor automobilístico da Europa subiu nos dois primeiros trimestres do ano para US$ 5,351 bilhões, uma alta de 21,8% em relação ao mesmo período do ano passado.

Porsche potrà comprare Volkswagen: arriva il via libera dalla UE

Arriva il bene stare della Commissione Europea all’acquisizione della Volkswagen da parte di Porsche. Neelie Kroes, commissaria europea responsabile della concorrenza, al termine di un’analisi approfondita, ha infatti concluso che l’operazione non ostacola significativamente la competizione economica del panorama europeo, nè una sua parte rilevante.

Da qualche tempo, Porsche distribuisce all’ingrosso ed al dettaglio, in diversi paesi, le auto dei marchi Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Bentley, Lamborghini e Bugatti. Dopo una cooperazione iniziata diversi anni fa, la casa di Stoccarda, già azionista di maggioranza di Volkswagen, in giugno ha concluso un accordo per l’acquisto di azioni; Tutto ciò in previsione dell’acquisizione di una tranche supplementare del 4,92% del capitale di azioni con diritto di voto di VW.

Al termine di questa operazione, Porsche potrà esercitare un controllo di fatto su Volkswagen. Ma mentre la prima si concentra sulle sportive e quello di alto livello, la seconda si specializza sulle utilitarie e sui veicoli di fascia media oltre che sui veicoli commerciali. Settori, secondo la Kroes, che non si sovrappongono e nei quali sono comunque presenti concorrenti potenti ed efficienti.

Dopo un attento esame, la Commissione ha d’altra parte concluso che la concorrenza non è a rischio nemmeno nei settori dei pezzi di ricambio o della distribuzione. Porsche vince così la sua battaglia contro il colosso di Wolfsburg e si appresta a diventare leader del più grande gruppo automobilistico europeo: speriamo che le premesse di Stoccarda circa “leadership democratica” vengano rispettate

Porsche cada vez mais próxima de se tornar maior acionista da Volkswagen

Cada vez mais a montadora de esportivos Porsche está perto de se tornar a maior acionista da gigante alemã Volkswagen. Com atuais 31% de participação, hoje (quarta-feira) a Comissão Européia aprovou junção entre as duas montadoras alemãs. Segundo a agência Reuters a compra de 4,9% das ações da VW, exigidas pela Comissão Européia para aprovar o negócio, deverá ocorrer no próximo 2 de Setembro. Mas segundo o presidente da Porsche, Wendelin Wiedeking, " o controle da Volkswagen será realizado parte por parte".

A Comissão Européia diz que a compra da VW pela tradicional marca de esportivos não afetará a concorrência no mercado europeu, já que ambas possuem produtos diversificados. Os planos da Porsche são de alcançar mais de 50% de participação nas ações do grupo VW, que envolve montadoras como Audi, Bentley, Bugatti e Lamborghini.

Volkswagen vê lucro 31% maior no 1º semestre e supera estimativas

A Volkswagen AG encerrou o primeiro semestre deste ano com lucro depois de impostos de 2,572 bilhões de euros, 31,3% acima do 1,959 bilhão de euros somados em mesmo período de 2007. O resultado também superou as estimativas de muitos analistas.

O lucro operacional ficou em 3,434 bilhões de euros, melhor do que os 2,820 bilhões de euros registrados na primeira parte do calendário passado. A receita cresceu 3%, indo de 54,852 bilhões de euros para 56,5 bilhões de euros.

O grupo entregou a clientes 3,266 milhões de veículos nos seis primeiros meses de 2008. Um ano antes, havia entregado 3,086 milhões de unidades. A empresa registrou fortes vendas na Índia, Rússia e China, especialmente.

Apenas no segundo trimestre, o lucro líquido da VW correspondeu a 1,643 bilhão de euros, um crescimento de 35% no confronto com intervalo idêntico de 2007 e superior ao previsto por muitos analistas. As vendas ampliaram-se 4,5%, para 29,5 bilhões de euros.

Apesar das condições difíceis no mercado global de veículos, a montadora está confiante com suas perspectivas para o restante do ano.

VW já produz Polo GT com motor 2.0 Total Flex

A Volkswagen já está produzido em uma versão um pouco mais esportiva do Polo. De acordo com o Jornal Folha de S. Paulo, trata-se da nova opção GT, que já é oferecida no Golf e se destaca pela utilização de diversos itens estéticos voltados a reforçar a esportividade do compacto. Além disso, a versão marca a volta do propulsor de 2 litros ao Polo. Desta vez, porém, este motor traz a tecnologia bicombustível, já disponível no médio Golf.

Entre as novidades no visual, a versão GT do Polo deverá ter defeltor traseiro, faróis e lanternas escurecidos e rodas de liga leve com novo desenho. Acabamento interno levemente diferenciado e até grade dianteira de cor diferente são cogitados, embora não haja certeza. O mais certo mesmo é a utilização do motor de 2 litros Total Flex, capaz de gerar 116 cv com gasolina e 120 cv com álcool, com torque de, respectivamente, 17,7 e 18,4 kgfm.

Além disso, o motor 2.0 Total Flex deve chegar a outros modelos da Volkswagen em breve. Polo Sedan e Golf com câmbio automático Tiptronic são os próximos, tornando, finalmente, toda a linha nacional da marca flexível. Ainda especula-se que outros modelos produzidos lá fora, como SpaceFox (Argentina) e Bora e New Beetle (México) também ganhem a opção bicombustível do propulsor, que é fabricado na planta mexicana da VW. Ou seja: em breve, importantes novidades. (As fotos abaixo se referem ao Polo Sportline, vendido atualmente com motor 1.6)

VW sales soaring globally

The Volkswagen Group delivered 3.27 million vehicles worldwide (+5.8 percent) from January to June 2008, the highest figure ever for the first six months of a year. Group worldwide deliveries in June also reached a new record: compared with the same period last year, the number of vehicles delivered rose by 2.4 percent to 573,000. As a result, the development of deliveries by the Group both for the period January to June and for the month of June was significantly better than developments on the overall market (+1 percent from January to June and-5.1 percent in June).

In China, the Group delivered 531,600 vehicles (+23.2 percent), thus topping the half a million mark for the first time in the first half of a year. The Group also achieved strong growth from January to June in Brazil, where deliveries rose by 21.8 percent to 316,000, and in Central and Eastern Europe (+18.7 percent to 282,000). The Group’s highest percentage growth in the first six months of 2008 came from India (+69.2 percent to 10,400 vehicles), Russia (+63.3 percent to 59,000 vehicles) and Ukraine (+46.9 percent to 25,900 vehicles).

In Europe, the Group delivered 1.84 million vehicles (+1.3 percent) from January to June, of which 534,000 (+3.7 percent) were delivered in Germany. In Western Europe (excluding Germany), where the market remained generally weak, the Group delivered 1.07 million vehicles (-3.6 percent).

“With our customer-oriented model diversity and a focused growth strategy we have achieved a marked increase in our worldwide deliveries even though negative factors are accumulating,” Detlef Wittig, Executive Vice President, Group Sales and Marketing, commented. “The storm clouds are clearly gathering over the world’s automobile markets. Nevertheless, thanks to the strength of our brands and our model range, our development in June and throughout the first six months of 2008 has clearly been better than general market trends and we have grown our market shares worldwide.”

Volkswagen Passenger Cars, the Group’s highest volume brand, delivered 1.9 million vehicles (+5.8 percent) worldwide in the first half of the year. Audi delivered 516,000 vehicles (+1.4 percent) and Skoda delivered 367,000 vehicles (+17.9 percent). Seat sold 206,000 vehicles (-7.5 percent), Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles delivered 264,000 vehicles (+12.9 percent). Bentley delivered 4,700 vehicles to customers, Lamborghini 1,300 and Bugatti 35.

It is no scoop news that Europe’s biggest auto maker, Volkswagen, is planning a compact-car for India which will battle it out with the big players in the crowded small-car segment. Shown at the Auto Expo ’08 in New Delhi earlier this year, the Volkswagen Up! is the machine that has been at the top of everyone’s mind. And there’s news regarding the very machine which is touted as the genesis of the small-car that will intensify the battle in the small-car segment all across the globe!

The Volkswagen Up! was initially conceptualized as a rear engined, rear-wheel-drive, city runabout which would set new emission standards with extremely low CO2 level. But it all may swing towards the opposite direction. Reportedly, VW is having trouble to come up with a low cost rear-engine layout for this compact hatch and might actually offer it with the engine at front. And this change might see it becoming a reality only by 2011.

The engineers are experiencing trouble accommodating a radiator in Up!’s nose section and channelizing the coolant through the length of the car. The prototypes have also been criticized for being aerodynamically unstable. The VW Up! behaved badly when tested for cross-wind stability owing to the heavy back side that was laden with the weight of the rear-drive layout. So to counter these ill effects, the Up! may also experience some changes on the style front. The bumper may get deeper air dams to enhance cooling of the engine, if it is mounted at the front.

Being 3.5 meters long and 1.6 meters wide, the VW Up! will have cars like Toyota iQ and Mitsubishi i-Car as worthy contenders. VW claims that despite its tight dimensions, Up! will offer class leading space on the inside. The design and layout of the interior looks pretty high tech. VW is working on an engine that could have a capacity of around 600cc and will be offered in both petrol and diesel guise. To satisfy those who salivate whenever the term ‘hot hatch’ is mentioned, a three cylinder, 1.2L petrol mill can be considered too. To cater to broader spectrum of customers, Volkswagen may also offer Space Up!, which is longer version of the compact-car, Up!. The Space Up! is nine inches longer than the hatchback and will offer larger loading area, so in essence it is a minivan of sorts.

Volkswagen Up: el sucesor del Beetle : tracción delantera

El Beetle (Escarabajo) supuso toda una revolución en los años anteriores a la Segunda Guerra Mundial, convirtiéndose en el “coche del pueblo” por su bajo coste y resistencia.

70 años despues Volkswagen trabaja en el sucesor espiritual de aquel mítico modelo, y no se trata de un “remake” del Beetle como sucediera con el New Beetle o el Mini One, sino un auténtico “coche del pueblo” que en el siglo XXI no podría ser otra cosa que un pequeño utilitario de bajo consumo y preparado para la ciudad, denominado Volkswagen Up.

Tracción delantera en vez de trasera

El clásico Beetle contaba con un motor trasero, y todo apuntaba a que Volkswagen optaría por equipar al nuevo Up con un motor trasero y tracción trasera, pero según se van conociendo nuevos datos del nuevo utilitario de la marca alemana, se va confirmando que montará el motor en la posición delantera y llevará tracción tambien delantera.

El motivo es bastante sencillo, por razones de diseño, de aerodinámica y reducción de costes es mucho más beneficioso que el motor vaya situado bajó el capó delantero, y evidentemente su fabricación resultará mucho menos costosa ya que al adaptarse a la arquitectura de tracción delantera que habitualmente montan la mayoría de modelos de Volkswagen, se podrán compartir más elementos entre modelos para el desarrollo del nuevo Up.
