James Howard Kunstler achieved fame for his book "The Geography of Nowhere" a critique of the way we have designed and built since World War II. When I was at Community Builders and did an annual conference called Lovable Communities, we had Kunstler come and speak. This was in the middle to late 1990s. He is a caustic, cantankerous critic who pulls no punches. Most of what he says is accurate. I recently was sent a link to a 20 minute talk he gave in 2004. If you don't like swear words, don't listen. Click here to connect to the talk.

The reason I began doing trips to Italy was because it is such a great instructor of what civic design and human places are. It remains so. And what happens on our art and culture based trips is that the wonderful human scaled environment of Orvieto softly and subtley caresses people. It makes them more human, more in touch with humanness. We have forgotten what this is like in so much of America because we mostly live in suburban blandness. One gift of these trips is the reconnection to that which is human. We have so many places we can reclaim in the U.S., even suburbia. First, we have to know what we are missing. Then we can act. We hope our trips begin the process of awakening that will lead to better communities at home.

Visiting Istra is a lovely experience, no matter the season, although the strong of tourism happens

Visiting Istra is a lovely experience, no matter the season, although the strong of tourism happens in summer, it's recommended to visit Istria in autumn and springs, even winter.. The Istrian cultural heritage is interesting, particularly known for old historical important towns older then Roman emporium etc..

[caption id="attachment_44" align="alignnone" width="280" caption="Narrow streets in Istria"][/caption]

A visit of Istria without spending time to visit its small towns on top of hills with its narrow streets, or old towns on seaside, is an un-logical move. The lovely thing of Istria is that in up to 2 hours of drive u can reach any part of Istria from any part of Istria.... it's such amazing how many diversities are in such a small area.
Istria is simply beautiful. Its beauty can be found in pre-historical remains, antique monuments, middle age towns, as well as in landscapes,
sea, people, villages and towns.

Rovinj - (Rovigno in Italian)

[caption id="attachment_42" align="alignnone" width="280" caption="Detail of town walls"][/caption]

Rovinj, a small town in peninsula of Istria, Croatia, it is located on the west coast of peninsula. It's a wonderful town with tempestuous history and beautiful present. The old part of the settlement is lying on a peninsula (well it was a small island in past then back in time we're connected with mainland) and, it was first mentioned under the name of Ruigno, Ruvigno, Ruginio in the Cosmography by the Anonymous of Ravenna who gives us an account of Istria in the 4th and 5th centuries.

[caption id="attachment_41" align="alignleft" width="271" caption="Rovinj Archipelago"][/caption]

The area of Rovinj borders with communes of Bale, Kanfanar, St Lovrec and Vrsar.
In Rovinj Archipelago there are 22 islets among which St Andrew and St Catherina are the biggest and the most beautiful. In the area of Rovinj there are some valuable and protected parts of nature, special reserves: islands and the coast from the islet of Sv. Ivan (St John) to the islet of Dvije sestrice (Two Sisters), sea and underwater of the Limski kanal (Lim fjord) and a part of Limska draga (Lim dell), Park Forest "Punta Corrente", marsh Palud, Romuald's cave on the southern side Lim fjord and stone-pit Monfiorenzo as a kind of geological monument of nature.

It's a must see place in Istria

I wanted, on our trip to England and Ireland, to pay attention to the travel experience. I was only partially successful as I became so wrapped up in it that I failed to pay attention. Actually, this is one of the great benefits of travel. You really do live in the present, absorbed in all that is new and different.

One result is that time expands. It is marvelous. You spend much less time thinking about the past and the future. You concentrate on what is happening right now. The result is that time slows down. You are living fully in the moment, soaking it all up. Days are full with all your senses engaged.

I have to say this may be partly true due to the way we travel. We do not run from place to place, town to town bagging sites and sights. We travel by going to one place and staying put - slow travel if you will. One consequence is you are not constantly worrying about the next train or bus or plane to catch, how to get from here to there. Some might find this boring. We love it because you get to know a place. You see how people live, you get into the rhythm. This, for us, is the best way to travel. It is fuller, richer, more rewarding, less hectic, more enjoyable. It is also how we run our trips with Adventures in Italy.

The time aspect is one thing I noticed by trying to pay attention to the travel experience. Time flys, but not when you live in the moment absorbed in the place.

Emirates, the airline of choice for Bangladeshis, announced its plans to invest in cutting-edge tech

Emirates, the airline of choice for Bangladeshis, announced its plans to invest in cutting-edge technology at the recently-concluded Emirates Travel Agent Workshop 2008.

At the workshop held every year to update the travel trade about the award-winning airline's latest products and services, Emirates' Area Manager for Bangladesh shared details of the airline's recent investment in technologically-advanced fleet and in the new, world-class terminal at Dubai International Airport.

Emirates took delivery of its first new-generation Airbus A380 aircraft on 29th July 2008 at the planemaker's Jürgen Thomas A380 Delivery Centre in Hamburg, Germany. Emirates is due to receive five superjumbos in the current financial year, which ends 31 March, 2009, and receive the remaining 53 by June 2013. Emirates inaugurated its first A380 commercial flight on 1st August 2008 when the superjumbo departed for John F. Kennedy Airport, New York. The technologically-advanced aircraft was also showcased to travel trade and media in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Besides the Dubai-based airline's state-of-the-art fleet, the Bangladeshi travel agents were also briefed on Terminal 3, Dubai International Airport. Boasting an annual capacity of 60 million passengers, the new terminal, dedicated exclusively for Emirates' flight operations will help meet Dubai and Emirates' robust growth projections.

In 2007-08, Emirates carried 21.2 million passengers. By 2012, the airline will have more than 200 aircraft in its fleet and is expected to carry in excess of 30 million passengers.

Terminal 3 will have 27 gates, including five dedicated for Emirates A380s, 180 check-in counters, a new light rail system allowing convenient transport around the airport and many other facilities.

The workshop also offered Emirates management an opportunity to brief agents on Emirates Holidays' TradeNet system which helps agent search for pre-built packages, create tailor-made quotations, check availability of flights and hotels and has the facility to communicate with Emirates Holidays via messaging system. The travel agents can also view the latest Emirates Holidays Newsletter on TradeNet.

The travel agents were also introduced to Farelogix, an internet-based system which allows authorised agents to access Emirates' reservations systems directly to check seat availability, make bookings, and issue tickets for their customers.

Mr. Zakaria noted: "Emirates' strategy has always been to invest in new technologies and methods to ensure a world-class product as well as to make our products more easily accessible to our customers and travel partners. We are delighted to share these new developments with our partners in the Bangladesh travel industry."

New procedures for visas at Dhaka's international airport, latest online fares of Emirates and its new routes for 2008 were also discussed.

Ctrip.com, China's top online travel agent, posted on Wednesday a 35 percent rise in second-quarter net profit but said revenue growth would slow this quarter because of a drop in domestic travel during the Olympics.

Ctrip.com said a drop in air traffic caused by May's devastating earthquake in Sichuan would continue into the third quarter due to a slowdown in business and individual travel during the Aug. 8-24 Olympics.

The Shanghai-based firm said it expected its revenue to grow in the range of 15-20 percent in the third quarter and slightly lowered its whole-year revenue growth rate guidance to 30-35 percent from 35 percent.

Jane Sun, chief financial officer of the company, said many leisure and business travellers were delaying trips until after the Games.

"So we've seen the market has slowed down during the Olympics," she said. "But our expectation is in the fourth quarter all the business and travel volume will be back to normal," Sun told an analysts' telephone conference.

Ctrip.com International Ltd said second-quarter earnings rose to $17 million from $12 million a year earlier.

The figure represented 25 cents per American Depositary Share, slightly lower than the $0.27 forecast by analysts polled by Reuters Estimates.

The company's second-quarter revenues were $55 million, up 30 percent from a year earlier and higher than analysts' estimates of $53.56 million.

The firm's Nasdaq-listed shares closed down 5.66 percent at $45.79 prior to the results and fell as low as $39.50, a loss of 9.6 percent on the day, in after-hours trade.

Cost controls contributed to the rise in second-quarter earnings as the company tightened its belt following the Sichuan earthquake, which dampened sentiment in the tourism market.

The inaugural B2B travel trade show, ITB Asia, to be held in Singapore in October is expected to com

The inaugural B2B travel trade show, ITB Asia, to be held in Singapore in October is expected to compliment its existing German-based, ITB Berlin and to provide Asia-Pacific partners with a more regionally focussed expo.

The event has been strategically planned between 22-24 October, in conjunction with other Singapore-based trade events such as Web in Travel which concludes just as ITB Asia commences.

According to Dr Martin Buck, the Director of Messe Berlin Singapore and organizer of ITB Asia, the timing of the event is expected to boost attendance as “many will use the opportunity to come to our show as well”.

Speaking exclusively to e-Travel Blackboard, Dr Buck said ITB Asia grew out of a necessity following the success of ITB Berlin, but the distance was becoming a drawback for many partners.

“We think the Asian travel market has been driving and growing for over 5-10 years much faster than the European travel market, especially Germany and the UK,” Dr Buck said.

“The new tradeshow will take place where the business is, and historically Asian-business visitors for ITB Berlin were very small.

“To combine these two things becomes obvious to export this to where the business is.”

The ITB Asia show is expected to house a different format from its European counterpart, combining leisure, corporate and MICE business.

“ITB Berlin is centred on the leisure market and European demand, so ITB Asia will compliment the show in times of globalisation and become an outlet, or second base,” Dr Buck said.

Some 500 exhibiting companies ranging from destinations, airlines, hotels & resorts, inbound tour operators, inbound DMCs, cruise lines and meeting facilities, from the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, the Americas, Africa and the Middle East are expected to participate. The event will also feature exhibition pavilions and tabletop presence for small and medium-sized enterprises.

A special study on SMEs will be published at ITB Asia in a bid to highlight the importance of this market, according to Dr Buck.

Some 1000 hosted buyers have been approved for attendance, with most, as expected, originating from the Asian region.

“We are open to the whole trade, so you don’t have to be a member of any organisation or come from a particular region.”

Dr Buck said ITB Asia has partnered with existing associations from across different fields to ensure the show’s success.

“We don’t want to re-invent the wheel, partnering with established organisations makes sense to co-operate from the start,” he said.

Dr Buck said the show, which has been earmarked to be hosted in Singapore in 2008 and 2009, may move to other Asian-cities depending on future developments.

We are just back from England and Ireland with a fresh awareness of how beneficial travel is. It provides revelation and understanding in a way you can't get at home. Your eyes are opened. You are taken out of the norm. You become a witness to life and to living - something you lose at home because the everyday is "normal," "routine."

[caption id="attachment_65" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Irish Countryside"][/caption]

It gives you perspective, awareness, understanding. It returns joy and marvel and living life consciously to your life. It helps you see how you live in a way you are otherwise blind to.

This is especially important for us as Americans. We are an open people. We are also insulated, isolated, and, in a way, arrogant. Because we are isolated we assume our way is the only way. Travel helps us broaden our horizons, see different approaches. New understandings make us more accepting of differences, more tolerant.

[caption id="attachment_66" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Peat Drying for Burning"][/caption]

It was encouraging to see hundreds of young people from all over the world, including Americans, traveling. This didn't happen to the extent it is now with those of us who are baby boomers. It will benefit the U.S. as we integrate more with the world. It's wonderful.

Package deals are often one of the best ways to bag yourself a relaxing break in Europe - there isn't always a need for a stressful long haul flight, whether you want some much needed sunshine or just want to explore a place you've never seen before. Despite the rising costs of flights, its still possible to enjoy leisure travel with friends and family without breaking the bank.

There are many ways to find yourself a great deal; scouring the internet for cheap airfares for a few hours often turns up some cheap fares if you are willing to travel on flights at undesirable times or in low demand as airlines often struggle to fill these and you can get a great bargain on them - this is alright for some, but then you have to go through the same process again finding a rental car and accommodation and very quickly your wish for a brief respite from the stress of daily life can become a daunting task in itself.

The best bet is to look around for package deals which offer everything you need, from transport to a place to sleep. You may think that organising everything yourself can work out cheaper, but this isn't always the case and even when it is, a package holiday can make everything run far more smoothly and reduce the worry associated with holiday planning, too. A little searching can turn up some really great deals, and taking holidays during the months when families tend to stay home as their children are at school is a great option for those without children themselves - you can snap up even lower fares if you choose to take a trip during term time.

Taking a holiday should never be a stressful experience for any of those involved - delayed flights and long queues at the airport are enough, there is no need to worry about other details too when the only thing you really want is to relax and escape for a while on a leisurely break.

Everyone has good trips and bad trips - travel doesn't always go smoothly, whether it's business travel or just for leisure but this morning there were reports of what could have ended as a real travel catastrophe. Next time you're upset because your flight is delayed by fifteen minutes think back to what the plane full of passengers travelling from London to Melbourne must have felt when their holiday or flight home was brought to a frightening halt. Passengers claimed to hear a loud bang and soon after air rushed into the cabin.

Most passengers never pay much attention to the safety demonstrations before their flights, but most of these unlucky travellers certainly will if they have any desire to fly again; the cabin lost pressure and all on board had to wear oxygen masks as the plane made a rapid (and undoubtedly frightening) emergency landing. The aircraft landed safely, and it was found that the problem was a huge hole in the baggage compartment of the aircraft (almost 3 meters in width). News sources say passengers were, unsurprisingly, terrified and many were ill after seeing the damage done to the aircraft outside.

Of course this isn't a regular event, but it's a reminder that there is always a worse scenario when it comes to air travel.

This weekend's big festival is the Bite of Seattle, The Northwest's Premier Food Festival.

According to culinaryfool.com:

Don't forget the Bite of Seattle is this weekend. It runs Friday through Sunday and there is so much going on that you could actually spend all three days there and still have things you'd like to taste or do!

There are two great options for trying smaller bites this year: "The Alley", sponsored by Tom Douglas, not only gives you lots of small bites for under $10 but the money goes to Food Lifeline so your munching supports a good cause; Just a Bite is a new feature with five restaurants offering smaller bites for $3.75 or less.

Whatever you choose to do, it looks like we're going to have a perfect weather weekend so get out and enjoy! For all the details see the Bite of Seattle website.

The Alley referred to above is, "hosted by Tom Douglas is $9.50 per person, which includes a multi-course meal of tastes from a selection of the area's best restaurants. Proceeds benefit Food Lifeline, the largest non-profit food distribution organization in Washington dedicated to hunger relief."

Mary Ellen, a master at manipulating digital photos and putting them on fabric, will help participants capture and save memories of this trip with photos on fabric. There will be several projects including a silk scarf purchased in Orvieto on to which will go a photo. Pictured here are examples of these scarves. Each picture is one she took in Italy and put on an Italian scarf. Cool huh?

Well guess what? The same week as this trip Orvieto is holding its annual Orvieto With Taste, a week of great food. It is an absolute shame not to take advantage of the festivities. The highlight of the week is a movable feast: an afternoon visiting 4 historic sites at which are four different food and wine offerings. The first provides appetizers, the second a chickpea and chestnut soup, the third the famous Chianina beef with a polenta spelt, and the last a chocolate tort. All the wine is from the Orvieto region including both white and red.

Only problem is the highlight day is the day the group is scheduled to leave. So we are adding a day and a ticket to the Walk of Taste as it is called all at no cost. Contact us if you would like to go - time is running out! Our e-mail is info@AdventuresInItaly.net and phone is 803.233.3164.

According to the AP, now that the airlines have turned checked baggage in to a money maker they plan to pay closer attention to carry-on baggage policies. American Airlines, United Airlines and US Airways will all have additional staff roaming the lines at the check-in counters.

Based on my own experience flying, I would expect to see tempers flare as many of those black rolling suitcases do not fit in the sized template provided by the airlines at the airport.

As if both business travellers and those heading off on holidays didn’t have enough on their plate dealing with long waits at the airport, flight delays and cancellations, jet lag is simply another added misery that can really make or break a trip. Especially on short business trips, travellers often don’t even get a chance to recover from jetlag and are already sitting on the plane back home before their body clock adjusts to the new time zone, causing disruption to work and seemingly unavoidable stress for those affected.

But there’s good news for travellers who have grown weary of dealing with the unpleasant experience a long haul flight can bring. Recent findings seem to point to a simple way of dealing with the problem of jet lag – simply don’t eat the food offered on the flight. This is because it seems that the body has more than one clock working to manage sleep cycles. One, of course, responds to the time of day and natural light levels. The other, surprisingly, is managed by what one eats.

So by avoiding food until the last minute, preferably after you have left the plane and have retrieved your bags, perhaps even until you reach your hotel, your body will have a far easier time adjusting to the considerable time difference. This second clock was studied in mice, and seemed to override the other, keeping the animals awake until they could find food. While this knowledge may come in handy for anyone travelling on long haul flights, there is no way to combat the problem completely.

Methods such as using sleeping tablets are discouraged these days because with the swelling of limbs associated with long haul flights these can cause serious circulation problems which could even prove deadly in the most severe cases as these pills cause an almost comatose state of sleep which means less movement, something which is vitally important before, during, and after a flight.

A few other tried and tested methods to help travellers avoid the draining and unpleasant effects of jetlag include shifting their sleeping and eating patterns at least a few days before even jetting off to their destination, but this isn’t always possible as most people have a schedule to stick to, a job and other commitments which mean that any major changes are unfortunately not possible, so this new discovery could give those who are severely affected by jet lag a new hope for reducing the discomfort associated with a swift move through different time zones instead of spending the first few days of their holiday feeling stressed and uncomfortable.

Singapore Tourism - A personal experience Over the last few decades, Singapore has become one of the most popular tourist destinations of Asia. I visited Singapore in 2006 on my way back from India. It turned out to be of one of the most memorable vacations that I have ever had. Unlike most of the other Asian countries Singapore is very well organized and has an excellent transportation system. There is so much to do in this small country that i wish i was able to spend some more time there. We got our booking done from Singapore airlines itself which gave us a good deal on the hotel, we stayed on the Orchard Road which is one of the main attractions of the country. Most of the high end shops, bars and restaurants are on the Orchard road itself and the nightlife is very good. We didn't do anything much on the first day since we reached the hotel by the evening.

The next day we went to Botanical Gardens also known as Orchid Garden, we took a taxi from our hotel which was very reasonable. This is an amazing place with 3000 tropical and subtropical plant species. Soon after this we took the 'SIA hop- on bus' and we stopped at almost all of the stops. This is a air conditioned bus that lets you hop on and hop off at any designated stop, this is a good way of covering most of the attractions of the country. We stopped at places like Little India, China Town, Arab Street and major shopping malls.

On the third day we went to the Sentosa Island, we booked the package at our hotel itself, so a bus picked us up in the morning and took us to a spot where we had to take electronic cable cars inorder to reach the Island. This was great fun and we got some excellent views of the Island and the nearby area. We spent one whole day on this island, some of the best thing to see and do over here are-

Underwater world, Dolphin lagoon, Butterfly Park & Insect Kingdom Museum, The Merlion area and Songs Of the sea. 'Songs of the sea' is a musical fountain show that takes place in the evening when it gets a little dark, this is a must see on the Island, it was the best show that i've ever seen of this kind.

On the fourth and the last day of our stay in singapore, we spent some time shopping on the Orchard road. There is so much to see and do in this place that four days were just not enough. Some of the must see and do things in Singapore are - Jurong Bird Park, The Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, Singapore boat ride.

New York City is served by three airports: JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark. Both JFK and LaGuardia are in New York City, though JFK is closer to Brooklyn.

It's probably easiest to search sites such as Hotwire, Travelocity, Orbitz, and Priceline for the best airfares to the New York City area. JetBlue also flies directly to JFK, though they've recently discontinued service from Ontario, and searching the Continental site directly sometimes turns up slightly better fares than on the sites listed above.

Travel from JFK
A taxi from JFK to Brooklyn will cost approximately $50. You can also take the Airtrain to Jamaica Station and transfer to a LIRR train to Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn (at the Atlantic/Pacific subway stop and near Prospect Heights, Park Slope, Fort Greene, and Boerum Hill) or to Penn Station in Manhattan. The AirTrain and LIRR will cost approximately $20.

Travel from LaGuardia
A taxi from LaGuardia to Brooklyn will cost approximately $50. You can also take the M60 bus from LaGuardia to the N/Astoria Blvd subway stop in Queens. The ride from Astoria Blvd to Brooklyn takes about an hour, and the 30 minute bus ride is usually very crowded, but the total cost of the bus and the subway is $2.

Travel from Newark
A taxi from Newark to Brooklyn will cost approximately $50 to $75. You can also take the AirTrain from Newark Airport and transfer to a NJ Transit train to Penn Station in Manhattan. The AirTrain and NJ Transit will cost approximately $20. If you are renting a car, you can drive to Brooklyn, which will take approximately an hour and a half, depending on traffic, and include a $6 toll to get into New York City.

Holidays are supposed to be a relaxing and care free time of the year. However, unfortunately something things go wrong. One of the worst things that can happen is for you to lose or get your money stolen. This is because without money there is not a lot you can do and chances are that you’ve spent a lot on booking your holiday in the first place so can’t afford to just get more money out.

Travellers cheques are a much better option than cash when you are on your holidays because if they get lost or stolen they can easily be replaced. This means that you won’t have lost all that money that you worked so hard for. Although it will still be a bit of a downer on your trip it won’t be the end of the world and you won’t lose any money.

Travellers cheques are a much safer way of carrying money around and it won’t be the end of the world if you lose them or they get stolen. With the majority of travellers cheques you can get free replacements for them if they get lost or stolen within 24 hours. This is much better than simply losing all of your money because this could completely ruin your holidays and you may even have to come home early.

There was a time when you could only exchange travellers cheques for cash in banks whilst on your holidays. However, as they are now being used more and more by holiday makers, most shops and restaurants accept them as a form of payment and will give you your change in cash. This means that not only can you have the peace of mind that if they get lost they can be replaced, but you also know that they are nearly as easy to use as it would be to pay in cash.

Another advantage of using travellers cheques whilst you are on your holidays is that you can get a better exchange rate from them. Travellers cheques benefit from a better exchange rate than the banknote rate for foreign currencies when you make a purchase.

With so many advantages of using travellers cheques, it would be silly to take cash with you on your holidays. Not only are they easy to use but you can get them replaced should they get lost or stolen. This means that once you have got them back you can go back to enjoying your holidays like you should be.

As of June 1st 2008 business travel could not be easier for passengers as they no longer have to worry about losing their tickets before their flight. From now on all airlines who are members of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) will only use electronic tickets for passengers checking in. This group makes up 94 percent of all airlines so therefore traditional paper tickets being used is going to become a rarity.

The use of e – tickets is no doubt going to make life a lot easier for many people, especially those who do a lot of business travel. Normally when your tickets come through you put them in a safe place but sometimes this is done so far in advance that by the time is comes to your travel date you have forgotten where you put your tickets. Whether you eventually find them or not it is a very stressful experience because there is absolutely no chance of getting on any flight without a ticket.

The majority of people who go on business travel don’t even book their own tickets as there is normally somebody else within the company who organises this. This can make it very difficult for the person who is actually flying to get the tickets if they are not in the office before they leave for their journey. However, with e – tickets this does not matter because all the information that is needed will be stored on the computer when you go to check in.

There are various other reasons why many airlines have decided to use e – tickets now rather than traditional paper tickets. As there is now more pressure than ever before for companies to be more environmentally friendly, not needing paper tickets anymore is going to be very beneficial to the environment. It is estimated that 50,000 trees can be saved every year simply by not needing to print tickets. As flying is constantly criticised for its contributions towards global warming environmentalists should be happy that so many airlines are doing whatever they can to help protect the environment now.

Regardless of whether people are going on business travel or holiday it is highly likely that everyone is going to benefit from the benefits of using e – tickets. However, it’s not just the passengers who are likely to benefit from these advantages because airlines are going to save billions of pounds worth of money when this new system has been introduced.

The Importance Of Travel Insurance

Holidays are an exciting time of the year because it means a week or two of relaxing and having fun

Holidays are an exciting time of the year because it means a week or two of relaxing and having fun without the normal stresses of everyday life. However, unfortunately, sometimes things do go wrong even when you are on holiday. Flight cancellations, lost luggage and illnesses can all make what should have been a relaxing time into a very stressful one. This can be made even worse for those who thought that they wouldn’t need travel insurance.

It’s very easy to think that you can get away with not buying travel insurance and most of the time this probably is the case. However, it simply isn’t worth it if something does go wrong because you can be left with a bill for thousands of pounds and in some countries you won’t even get medical aid without any insurance.

You may not even get a chance to get on the aeroplane before you find yourself needing your travel insurance. Sometimes due to unforeseen circumstances flights can get cancelled. This means that you lose money on your accommodation, car rental and chances are you are going to need to stay in a hotel until you can get on another flight. This doesn’t just make a bad start to your holiday because it is very frustrating, but you also stand to lose a lot of money. Whereas it won’t make up for lost time at least you know if you have travel insurance that you can claim back the money you lost which is a bit of compensation.

People tend to be a lot more relaxed on holiday and do things that they normally wouldn’t do. For example, water sports are very common on holiday but it is unlikely that you would do something like that at home. This means that the chances of you getting injured are a lot higher and if you need to go to hospital for any reason you can be left with a large bill if you haven’t got travel insurance.

You can find some great deals for travel insurance nowadays because there are so many different companies competing against each other for customers. This means that you don’t have to spend an absolute fortune on it so even if you don’t end up using it it’s not a major loss. Unfortunately there are lots of things that can go wrong while you are away on holiday or are travelling. It is definitely worth paying a little extra money for the security of knowing that you will be covered if something does happen.
