Here are whitelisting instructions for some of the major email service providers. The minimum we suggest they do is to add the 'from' email address (username@domain) into their email system's address book.  

Please insert the From address you are whitelisting for username@domain.com using the instructions below:

AOL

Add the "From address" you want to receive mailings from to your AOL address book:

1. Click the "Mail Options" menu and select "Address Book".
2. Inside the "Address Book" window, click the "Add" button.
3. Inside the "Address Card for New Contact" window cut and paste username@domain.com into the "Other E-Mail" field.
4. Make our From address the "Primary E-Mail" address by checking the associated check box to the right of it.
5. Click the "Save" button.

If the mailing is in your SPAM Folder, you can open the email and click the "This Is Not Spam" button.

Gmail

Add the From address you want to receive mailings from to your Gmail Contacts List:

1. Click "Contacts" along the left side of any Gmail page.
2. Click "Create Contact".
3. Copy and paste username@domain.com into the primary email address dialog box.
4. Click "Save".

If the mailing is in your SPAM folder, check the box next to the mailing and click the "Not Spam" button along the top.

Hotmail

Add the From address you want to receive mailings from to your Hotmail Safe List:

1. Open your mailbox and click “Options” (upper right hand corner).
2. Click the “Junk E-Mail Protection” link.
3. Select the “Safe List” link.
4. Copy and paste username@domain.com into the dialog box titled “Type an address or domain”.
5. Click the “Add” button next to the dialog box.

If the mailing is in your "Junk E-Mail Folder", open the email and click the "Not Junk" button. 

You should also check that the mailing's email address is not in your Blocked Senders list.  You can find your Blocked Senders list by following the directions above and going to "Blocked Senders List" instead of "Safe List".  If you see the mailing's from address on this list, select it and click the Remove button. 

Mozilla Thunderbird

Add the From address you want to receive mailings from to your Thunderbird Address Book and configure your Junk Mail Controls to white list your address book.

Add an address into your Personal Address Book:

1. Click the "Address Book" button.
2. Make sure the Personal Address Book is highlighted.
3. Click the "New Card" button.
4. Under the "Contact" tab, copy and paste username@domain.com into the Email dialog box.
5. Click "OK".

White list your Personal Address Book:

1. From the main drop down menu, select "Tools -< Junk Mail Controls..."
2. This will launch the Junk Mail Controls window that has two tabs: Settings and Adaptive Filter
3. Under the Settings tab, update the "White Lists" module by selecting Personal Address Book from the pull down menu and then check mark the box next to "Do not mark messages as junk mail".
4. Click "OK".

If the mailing is in your junk folder, right-click the mailing and choose "Mark -< As Not Junk".

Netscape Mail

Set up a filter to redirect the mailing you want to receive into your inbox:

1. From the Edit drop down menu, select "Message Filters".
2. Click "New", and give the new filter a name (e.g. "Whitelist").
3. Change the drop down on the left to "sender" and the one in the middle to "is".
4. Copy and paste username@domain.com into the box on the right.
5. Make the bottom two drop downs "Move to folder" and "Inbox".
6. Click "OK".
7. Make sure that your new filter is located at the top of the Message Filter list so it is run before any spam filter.

Outlook 2003

Add the address you want to receive mailings from to your Safe Senders list:

1. On the Tools menu, click "Options".
2. On the Preferences tab, click "Junk E-mail".
3. On the Safe Senders tab, click "Add".
4. In the Add address box, copy and paste in username@domain.com and click OK.

If you are using a different version of Outlook you can add the mailers From address to your Address Book. This can be done by opening the email, right clicking the From address, and selecting "Add To Contacts". You can also access your Address Book via the tools drop down menu.

Yahoo

Set up a filter to redirect the mailing you want to receive in your inbox:

1. Open your mailbox and click on "Mail Options" (upper right hand corner).
2. Select "Filters" under the Management column.
3. Click the "Add" button on the Filters page.
4. In the "From header:" row, make the drop down "contains" and put the mailer's from address username@domain.com   in the box.
5. At the bottom of the page Click the "Choose Folder" pull down menu and select "Inbox".
6. Click the "Add Filter" button.

If the mailing is in your Yahoo Bulk Folder open the email and click the "Not Spam" button. You should also check that the mailing's email address is not in your "Blocked Addresses" list.  You can find your "Blocked Addresses" list by clicking "Mail Options" and then clicking the "Blocked Addresses" link under the Spam column.  If you see the mailing's from address on this list, select it and click the "Remove Block" button. 

Others

The most common way to whitelist an address is to add it to your address book, white list, or safe list.  There is no universal way to whitelist an address, so if this is not an option, you will have to consult the help section associated with your email application.  They should have instructions on how to whitelist an address there.

Sarà interessante seguirne lo sviluppo, e per questo l'ho installato sul pc dell'ufficio. E ieri ho avuto due piacevoli sorprese. Quando ho chiesto l'aggiornamento dell'applicazione, mi è apparso Thunderbird 3.0a2pre, quindi un passo in più rispetto ad un'alfa 1. Poi aprendo una mail, da tasto destro ho trovato la piacevole voce "Open Message in new Tab", finalmente la gestione dei tab tanto attesa...

I bug sono ancora numerosi, ad esempio aprendo un messaggio in un tab, Lightning, il calendario integrato, smette di funzionare correttamente. Ma è una versione alfa, che pretendete?

Per quanto mi riguarda, ho sufficiente fiducia nella Mozilla Foundation per usare Thunderbird 3.0 in versione alfa.

Luiz Thunderbird 47 anos, músico e ex-VJ

Ele estreou em março o programa Thunderview, produzido a partir de entrevistas com amigos e organizado em vídeos de dez minutos. Apesar de levar convidados como Roni Von e Mário Bortolotto, a maioria dos programas orbita em torno do rock indie – a abreviação para independente. “Não consigo fugir da música”, disse em entrevista ao Link em casa, no bairro do Morumbi, em São Paulo.

Rodeado por discos de vinil, livros, revistas e vários óculos (repare no da foto, em que os aros são rodas de motocicleta), o ex-VJ nascido Luiz Fernando Duarte falou sobre coisas 2.0, internet, cultura, anos 90. Tudo com o humor característico e uma boa dose de provocações.

A primeira vítima foi logo a TV tradicional, “chata, convencional, previsível”. Thunderbird diz sentir agonia ao zapear. E isso não tem nada de ressentimento ou inveja por não estar lá. Ele deixou a MTV em 2003 para explorar o rádio e trabalha em dois projetos, que disputam espaço em emissoras pagas e abertas. “Nada contra a TV, só não vale ser careta.”

Careta, para Thunderbird, é algo maior do que as definições quadrado e conservador. Mal acostumado com o começo da MTV e o cenário underground, ele quer é ter liberdade para falar o que quiser. Por isso o caminho natural para a internet.

No Thunderview (http://tinyurl.com/2v9prh), o apresentador se diz realizado. “Me dei muito bem com o editor de imagens. Eu viajo e pergunto se rola fazer determinado efeito e, puf!, o cara consegue”, diz, empolgado. A produção e edição dos programas são bancadas pelo portal de música da operadora Oi, o Showlivre. É a primeira incursão de Thunderbird na internet com alguma infra-estrutura.

Na verdade, o debut do apresentador na web foi em 2007, com o programa ThunderVox, de certa forma o embrião de tudo. “Chegou um produtor canadense e disse (imita sotaque gringo): ‘Vamos fazerrr um progrrrama’. Eu embarquei”, diz. Na época, os vídeos iam só para o YouTube, eram gravados de forma caseira e com todas as dificuldades técnicas possíveis. Apesar disso, houve 13 edições.

Depois de experimentar, Thunderbird gostou da web, ou, como ele diz, percebeu que “a goiabada é muito gostosa”. As pessoas podem vê-lo no Japão e ele pode ficar amigo de bandas japonesas. Estamos falando de MySpace, claro, um vício declarado do ex-VJ. “Conecto a internet e já vou para o MySpace. Depois não consigo sair.”

Thunderbird pensou antes da resposta final, mas conseguiu: ele tem cinco bandas em atividade. A principal e mais antiga, Devotos de Nossa Senhora Aparecida (www.myspace.com/devotosdnsa), é o xodó do músico na internet. Ele compõe, canta e toca baixo. “Foi por ela que nos cruzamos no MySpace com uns japoneses que fazem jazz instrumental experimental.” A loucura se chama Choinure Boys (www.myspace.com/choinure) e deixa Thunderbird impressionado. “Conexões como essa só são possíveis pela internet. É um presente.”

Bem, há o outro lado. Os ícones brasileiros do MySpace são a banda Cansei de Ser Sexy (CSS) e a adolescente Mallu Magalhães, de 15 anos. Você gosta? “Com 6 anos eu já fazia o que a Mallu Magalhães faz hoje. O que há de novo artisticamente? Isso não é um fenômeno de internet; é tentar usar a rede para virar celebridade”, critica. Ele questiona se o número alto de pageviews pode significar sucesso. “Quero falar para um público determinado, não para todos.”

O CSS, para Thunderbird, é outra história; pelo menos já conseguiu viver de música, um estímulo para bandas independentes. “Mas casos como esse são raros. É muito difícil sobreviver sem ter uma grande corporação por trás.” Aí ele sorri e lembra de seu programa hospedado no Showlivre. “Eu consigo falar do universo indie com a Oi por trás. Você escreve sobre isso, mas tem o Estadão bancando. Difícil fugir...”

BLOGOSFERA
Além das letras de rock e punk, Luiz Thunderbird também se arrisca a escrever um blog (www.thunder.blog.uol.com.br). Ele mesmo se antecipa à crítica e explica que, diferentemente da maioria dos “famosos”, não trata a internet como diário virtual. “Só faço um novo post se aconteceu alguma coisa relevante ao meu redor. Não levanto de manhã, ligo o computador e escrevo ‘Ah, hoje não sonhei com nada...’.”

Thunderbird exemplifica o jeito que dá para fugir do estereótipo do blogueiro típico. Outro dia, diz, ficou sem carro e resolveu ir até o Centro de São Paulo a pé. “Levei uma hora e 55 minutos e quase morri. Carro subiu na calçada, semáforos de pedestres quebrados, tudo esburacado, um inferno”, diz. Na internet, a aventura virou a “saga do pedestre paulistano”, uma crítica à administração municipal. “Tasquei o pau no blog.”

Detalhe: se você achou isso meio ridículo, pode entrar no blog e comentar. Thunderbird garante que publica os pitacos do contra. “Gosto dessa idéia de falar direto com as pessoas. Principalmente se elas se interpõem às coisas que escrevo”, afirma.

Outro meio de se comunicar diretamente com o ex-VJ é o Orkut. Mas por pouco tempo. Ele tem quase mil amigos e o perfil vai ficar lotado. “Administrar dois perfis já é demais, né?” Como todo mundo, o apresentador usa a rede social para encontrar amigos de colégio e conversar por scrap com conhecidos. “Mas a finalidade principal é trabalhar, divulgar shows”, diz.

O apelido Thunderbird, para quem não sabe, vem do carrão da Ford produzido na década de 50, que ele nunca teve mas admirava. Antes de Thunder, o dentista Luiz Fernando era o roqueiro Luiz Spitfire. “Não adianta. Luiz Fernando não é nome de roqueiro (risos).” Ele virou Thunderbird antes mesmo de estrear na MTV, em 1990.

Fazendo as contas, são longos 18 anos, quase uma geração. Para muitas crianças de hoje, Thunderbird é apenas o nome do programa de e-mail da Fundação Mozilla, que faz par com o Firefox, um pacote de software livre. De qualquer forma, é um exemplo da cultura independente da internet.

There is good reason for this as I am about to explain with my Adventure in Safe Mode today. I have spent most of this morning testing various add-ons in Firefox 3 upon the requests of some forum members at Go Firefox. I had run into a couple (such as FireFTP) that even after a forced install would not work correctly. Most incompatible extensions forced to install will either exhibit odd behaviour, not function correctly or at all. In cases such as those, it is just a matter of going into the add-ons manager and simply uninstalling the problematic extension.

Up until today this has worked 100% of the time when I run into problematic extensions. Someone asked about the Google Toolbar because they have a bit of a discontentment for the current Firefox built-in spellchecker. I found the Firefox Toolbar Version 3 and proceeded to install the add-on and was presented with the usual incompatible add-on warning window:

Figuring if there was a problem I could simply go back and uninstall the add-on, so I clicked Force Install and then choose to restart Firefox. Big mistake! As soon as Firefox 3 tried to start I got a dialog box telling me Firefox had crashed. Wow, never had that happen before! I clicked the button to try to restore Firefox. Much to my relief Firefox restarted...but wait why is it saying I have all of these incompatible add-ons? Oh crap, Firefox 3 restarted with my Firefox 2 (default) profile! So I closed Firefox 3 and clicked the short-cut which uses my Firefox 3 profile...Firefox has crashed...

Hmm, never been in this situation before, but I did know that Firefox (along with Thunderbird) have a safe mode feature. Normally, to access this you would go into your Firefox folder and select Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode). However when I installed Firefox 3, I choose not to have it create a program group.  However safe mode can also be activated by opening a command line and typing firefox.exe -safe-mode. So I hit WindowsKey + R and typed firefox.exe -safe-mode clicked OK and Firefox starts up in safe mode...sort of. Firefox 2 with my Firefox 2 profile started up in safe mode. Okay simple enough, I'll just find where I have Firefox 3 installed and choose to run from that location. So this time I did WindowsKey + R and typed K:\Mozilla Firefox 3 Beta 5\firefox.exe -safe-mode and clicked OK. This time around Firefox 3 did start, but it was with my Firefox 2 profile (I kept forgetting it is set as my default).

Okay, now what? I wouldn't be all that upset if I had to nuke my Firefox 2 profile. But I am still switching between Firefox 2 and 3 quite a bit for testing. So if I could, I rather not delete that profile. To complicate matters though, I could not find a way to make my Firefox 3 profile the default. I got to thinking, normally when I start Firefox my shortcuts have a '-p' switch on them to indicate which profile I want to use. The Safe Mode directions didn't say I could use the '-p' switch, but then again it didn't say I could not. I'll give it one more last chance to work before I nuked my Firefox 2 profile. This time with WindowsKey + R, I typed K:\Mozilla Firefox 3 Beta 5\firefox.exe -safe-mode -p "Firefox3" (I call my Firefox 3 profile Firefox3) and clicked OK.

Success, Firefox 3 with my Firefox 3 profile launched in Safe Mode. So now I was presented with the Firefox Safe Mode options window:

I went ahead and selected 'Disable all add-ons' even though that really wasn't needed, but I didn't want to take any chances. After selecting Continue in Safe Mode, I opened the add-ons manager and went to work. First task was to uninstall the broken Google Toolbar and then go through and re-enable the other 17 (I've added a couple more this morning) add-ons before restarting. This time around Firefox 3 started with no issues and I had my 17 add-ons enabled.

While what happened today is extremely rare it is the reason I have that Disclaimer/Warning. After a lot of trial and error (plus time) I was able to get Firefox working again. Even better I was able to keep both my profiles intact..for the most part. I have a feeling my Fireox 2 profile is a little messed up as a result of it being launched in Firefox 3. But that should be easy to fix.

Gmail offre 2 possibilità per fare ciò: attivare il forwarding automatico dalle caselle secondarie verso l'indirizzo principale, oppure impostare l'indirizzo principale per controllare le caselle secondarie mediante protocollo pop3 (mail fetcher).

Il metodo del forward automatico consente di ricevere istantaneamente sull'account principale la posta destinata agli account secondari, mentre il metodo pop3 tende naturalmente a ritardare l'arrivo dei messaggi.

I fanatici dell'archiviazione come me però potrebbero incorrere in un problema: come applicare una etichetta ai messaggi che ci arrivano mediante forward automatico? in altre parole, come distinguere i messaggi destinati all'indirizzo principale da quelli destinati agli indirizzi secondari?

Supponiamo che l'email principale sia indirizzo1@gmail.com mentre quella secondaria indirizzo2@gmail.com

L'idea di creare un filtro che agisca quando il destinario è "indirizzo2@gmail.com" può sembrare ovvia ma nasconde un'insida: se sull'account indirizzo2@gmail.com ci viene inviata una email con l'indirizzo del destinatario in copia nascosta (ossia in bcc) il filtro che abbiamo creato su gmail fallirà perchè non troverà l'indirizzo indirizzo2@gmail.com tra i destinatari. Questo è il caso tipico delle newsletter.

Se proviamo a leggere il testo completo (header compresi) di una email forwardata, ossia ricevuta sull'account principale ad opera del forward automatico, troveremo due campi molto interessanti: x-Forwarded-For e x-Forwarded-To.

In particolare, per una ipotetica email destinata a indirizzo2@gmail.com e inoltrata con il forward automatico su indirizzo1@gmail.com leggeremo:

X-Forwarded-To: indirizzo1@gmail.com
X-Forwarded-For: indirizzo2@gmail.com indirizzo1@gmail.com

Sfortunatamente l'interfaccia web di gmail non ci consente di fare delle ricerche su questo campo, altrimenti basterebbe creare un filtro che vada a cercare i messaggi con x-Forwarded-For: indirizzo2@gmail.com e applicare la relativa etichetta...
segnalo comunque che questo metodo è applicabile e funziona benissimo con il client ThunderBird.

come fare allora a far riconoscere sull'account principale di gmail le email provenienti dagli altri account?

probabilmente avrete letto come me da qualche parte in rete che, dato un certo indirizzo username@gmail.com, se scrivete all'indirizzo username+qualsiasicosa@gmail.com l'email arriverà comunque ad username@gmail.com.

La domanda che allora mi è balenata in mente è la seguente: e se anzichè forwardare la posta direttamente ad indirizzo1@gmail.com la forwardassi ad indirizzo1+xxx@gmail.com, avrei modo di distinguere la posta in arrivo? Ebbene la risposta è si. :)

Quindi quello che dovete fare è questo: impostare l'account secondario per inoltrare automaticamente la posta non ad indirizzo1@gmail.com bensì ad indirizzo1+xxx@gmail.com, dove al posto di xxx potete scrivere ciò che volete, una parola, un numero, eventualmente anche porre xxx=indirizzo2.

Fatto questo, andiamo sull'account principale e creiamo un filtro.

Nei criteri di ricerca, posizioniamoci sul campo "Contiene le parole" e scriviamo:

DeliveredTo: indirizzo1+xxx@gmail.com

Fatto ciò, clicchiamo su Passaggio Successivo e scegliamo l'etichetta e/o il colore da attribuire ai messaggi che corrispondono a questo filtro.

D'ora in poi tutta la posta destinata ad indirizzo2@gmail.com sarà forwardata in automatico a indirizzo1@gmail.com e catturata da questo filtro.

Molto probabilmente non sarò stato chiaro nell'esposizione ma credetemi quando vi dico che è più facile a farsi che non a dirsi ;)

Tonight I took another step and moved my Thunderbird email profile (which contains all my email messages and settings) from my Windows XP desktop to my Linux Mint desktop - it was surprisingly easy to do once you find out where the Thunderbird email files are stored on each operating system. On my Windows desktop I was used to letting MSN messenger check my Hotmail account but I had to find a different way on Linux since I will not have MSN messenger running as a background task. In looking for a solution for this issue, I also found out that Thunderbird has free webmail addons that can be setup to check various webmail accounts so this will work to keep me connected with my Hotmail.

I will be continuing to move towards having just one desktop - because I think I might still need Windows for some rare things, I am trying to see if I can get Windows XP running in virtual PC on my Linux desktop. I will have to buy a new Windows XP OEM license to do this as I cannot move my existing Windows XP operating system which is also an OEM version (tied to the current hardware it is running on) to a virtual version - it is restrictions like this Microsoft has been limiting us with for years that also make me want to try Linux as a desktop. I like the freedom of moving everything to new hardware without having to re-purchase the operating system each time I make such a move. Once I have a virtual Windows XP desktop setup, I should be able to move it to wherever I want since it will always appear to be running on the same virtual hardware - this just goes to show a lot of these licensing restrictions that Microsoft has placed on its products in the past just don't translate that well to the new world of "virtualization".

As I move forward with this migration, I will update this blog with my experiences.

Ontem, na choperia do sesc pompéia, aconteceu o lançamento do segundo CD da banda Cérebro Eletrônico(http://www.myspace.com/cerebroeletronico), intitulado de Pareço Moderno. A Banda paulista formada por: Isidoro Cobra (baixo), Gustavo Souza ( bateria), Fernando Maranho Guitarra), Dudu Tsuda(Teclados e voz) e Tatá Aeroplano(voz e efeitos sonoros produzidos com brinquedinhos),subiu ao palco sem a presença de Dudu, e em seu lugar o músico Maurício Fleury assumiu os teclados. A banda, que tem como base os integrantes do grupo Jumbo elektro, sofre grandes influências do movimento Tropicalista Brasileiro, lembrando, muitas vezes, Mutantes, Tom Zé e principalmente o músico Júpter maçã. Inclusive, neste cd existe uma faixa inédita escrita pelo próprio Júpter, que se chama Talentoso.

 Thunder Bird -(http://thunder.blog.uol.com.br)- foi o mestre de cerimonias, anunciando a entrada da banda ao palco. O show foi muito divertido, com direito a confetes e serpentinas, além de diversas participações de músicos que também participaram da gravação do cd! O Público agradeceu, entrando totalmente no clima.

Depois do show, houve a exibição, em primeira mão do novo clipe de “Pareço Moderno”, num telão atrás do palco.

Na entrada da choperia, estavam a venda o CD da banda que custa R$20,00, um download card (em formato de fita cassete) que permite baixar 12 faixas na net, com inclusão da senha em sites indicados que custa R$5,00 e uma caixa incrível, em formato de lata de rolo de filme de 35mm com cards, um livreto que conta a história de cada faixa do CD, uma camiseta, adesivos, um cd de remixes e até uma pinguinha. Esta custa R$65,00.

Comprei o CD, e hoje, ouvindo-o em casa, vejo como foi bem produzido! As músicas possuem bons arranjos, letras levemente sarcásticas, que tem como base o cotidiano dos próprios integrantes, tais como baladas noturnas envolvidas por litros e litros de café!

 O som da banda é assim: uma coisa meio retrô, com uma boa dose de recursos eletrônicos,bons arranjos... Um pouco de bossa, rock´n roll e “coisinhas divertidas”... O Resultado? Um som diferente sem rótulos que cheira a novidade e dá vontade de dançar!

 Gostei muito da faixa 4, “Dê”. Talvez por ser a mais lentinha do Cd,e, de certo modo, a mais romântica. A faixa 5 “Antes eu tivesse escolhido conviver só com a minha guitarra” também é tocada pelo Jumbo Elektro. Infelizmente existem faixas que foram tocadas no show e que não fazem parte do novo CD. Agora só nos resta esperar o próximo show e acompanhar as novas músicas pelo Myspace da banda... Eu recomendo!

Ich muss allerdings auch sagen, das ich seit Leopard vollständig auf Mail.app umgestiegen bin und den Feuervogel in Rente geschickt habe. Die Gründe hierfür sind sicherlich individuell unterschiedlich, bei mir waren es vorrangig die Integration in OS X und die Zusammenarbeit mit Quicksilver. Ebenfalls sehr bedauerlich ist der scheinbare Stillstand der Entwicklung von Thunderbird. Nachteile von Mail.app, die ich auch schon in meinem Ursprungsbeitrag angeführt habe, sind die absolute Abhängigkeit vom Betriebssystem sowie die Notwendigkeit, teils kostenpflichtige, Erweiterungen finden und installieren zu müssen um wirklich produktiv arbeiten zu können. Ein wenig mehr sollte von Hause aus schon dabei sein.

Integration von Spotlight (und Google Desktop Search)

Eines der wichtigsten Argumente gegen Thunderbird neben der fehlendes Integration des Adressbuchs, die unter Windows mehr Vorteile als Nachteile bietet, ist sicherlich auch die fehlende Integration in Spotlight. Es weigert sich einfach die Mails in Thunderbird zu indexieren, so wie es bei Mail.app der Fall ist. Das liegt daran, das Spotlight eine einzelne Datei benötigt, um diese als Suchergebnis anzeigen zu können. Seit Thunderbird und viele andere E-Mail-Clients wie auch Eudora Nachrichten im sogenannten mbox-Format speichern, kann nicht mehr auf eine einzelne Nachricht verwiesen werden. Bis jetzt ... denn seit Version 2.0 bietet Thunderbird eine geschickte und kaum bekannte Konfigurationsmöglichkeit namens mail.spotlight.enable. Diese Option veranlasst Thunderbird für alle Nachrichten zusätzlich einzelne Textdateien anzulegen. Es sollte dabei bedacht werden, das bei einer großen Anzahl an E-Mails auch der benötigte Plattenplatz benötigt wird. Diese Dateien können dann aber von Spotlight und auch Google Desktop Search indexiert werden. 

Auch wenn die Einstellungen keine Probleme verursachen sollten, möchte ich darauf hinweisen, das jeder selbst für mögliche Fehler oder Datenverluste verantwortlich ist.

Die folgende Anleitung, die ich von Dennis übernommen und ins Deutsche übersetzt habe, sollte euch helfen Spotlight dazu zu bewegen eure Nachrichten aus Thunderbird zu indexieren. Viel Erfolg!

1. Sichert euer vorhandenes Thunderbird-Profil (üblicherweise [user directory]/Library/Thunderbird). Überspringt dieses Schritt keinesfalls!
   Idealerweise stellt man Thunderbird vor allen Änderungen so ein, dass neue E-Mails eine Woche lang auf dem Server belassen werden (Extras / Konten / Server-Einstellungen / [x] Nachrichten auf dem Server belassen). 
   
2. Installiert euch, wenn nicht schon geschehen, die aktuellste Version von Thunderbird gegebenenfalls über die vorhandene Version und prüft, ob nach dem Neustart noch alle Nachrichten da sind. Sollte hier etwas schief gelaufen sein, spielt das Backup zurück und hört auf.
3. Installiert den Mozilla mdimporter nach /Library/Spotlight, diese Datei ist ein Plugin was Spotlight beibringt Nachrichten aus Thunderbird zu indexieren.
4. Startet Thunderbird und geht im Menü auf Thunderbird / Einstellungen / Erweitert / Konfiguration bearbeiten. Sucht nach dem Eintrag mail.spotlight.enable und setzt den Wert auf true.
5. Überprüft nun, ob der Importer ordnungsgemäß registriert wurde und gebt im Terminal folgendes ein: /usr/bin/mdimport -L. Nach etwa zwei Dritteln des nun folgenden Outputs solltest du folgende Zeile sehen /Library/Spotlight/Thunderbird.mdimporter. Sollte dies nicht der Fall sein, funktioniert etwas nicht und du solltest an dieser Stelle abbrechen und versuchen den Fehler zu identifizieren.
6. Schließt Thunderbird nun und startet das Programm neu. Nun sollte die “Text”-Version eurer Nachrichten erstellt werden, das kann je nach Umfang deiner E-Mails eine Weile dauern.
7. Probiert nun Spotlight aus und sucht nach einem Text innerhalb einer E-Mail. Es kann vorkommen, das Spotlight erst mit dem indexieren erst beginnt, nachdem ihr den ersten Suchtest durchgeführt habt. Achtet darauf das der Prozess der Indexierung nicht abgebrochen wird, das kann zu Problemen führen.

1) Pay the Visa processing fee + vfs service charges at a designated HDFC branch

As of today the fees comes to Rs.5502 + Rs 322 = Rs.5824

2) Book your visa appointment

Log on to the vfs website and click on the "Apply for a Nonimigrant visa" link.

After what looks like a spate of form filling (you'll be asked to fill DS-156,DS-157,DS-158 forms), you will finally get the chance to book your visa appointment. Once that is done you will be allowed to download all the forms you filled in and your interview letter, along with a guidance sheet. Take print outs of all the forms. They are necessary for your interview.

3) Pay your SEVIS fees

As of today the SEVIS fee stands at $131. You can pay it online through credit card here.

You should keep in mind that you need to have your SEVIS receipt when you go for your interview. So you need to pay it atleast 3 days before your appointment date. Also, the SEVIS receipt cannot be saved, so it is better to fill the form and pay the fees at a place which has a printing facility.

Thats pretty much it. And you are all set.

I have my interview slated on the 27th of May at 7:30 in the morning at Chennai. Keeping my fingers crossed.

One of the reasons I was itching for an upgrade to Leopard had been the new Mail. I have been using Thunderbird as my e-mail client on my Mac from Day 2. On Day 1 I gave a shot and used Apple Mail for a while, but we were not ticking together so I dumped it and switched to good old Thunderbird.

Now I am on Leopard and shiny new Apple Mail is just waiting for me in my Applications folder so I decided it is the correct time to give it a try.

After I set up my e-mail settings through a very simple wizard I chose Import from the File menu and there was Thunderbird. Import took a few minutes and all my e-mail was available in Apple Mail.

There has been a few glitches for the past few days but everything is normal now. The problem was that, and it happens again time-to-time, when I open a folder none of the e-mails there seem to have content. I noticed this when I have searched for a mail that I know existed but received no results. I don’t know the exact cause of the problem, but it gets fixed by itself when I closed and re-opened Mail so I believe it is somewhat related to Mail not being able to process all e-mail (over 10,000) in the first pass.

Una delle regole principali della produttività consiste nell'individuare i nostri inbox e nello svuotarli. Di fatto, lo stesso termine inbox arriva qui da noi con l'arrivo della posta elettronica, e dunque associare i due concetti è una cosa piuttosto naturale.

Io uso Gmail, che è notoriamente un servizio di email web based. Tuttavia sono tornato ai cari vecchi client, impostando l'account in modo tale da inviarmi le mail tramite POP e mantenere una copia nei server di Google. Come client uso il celebre Mozilla Thunderbird, tra i più versatili ed efficaci.

A parte qualche altro account che utilizzo per lavoro, ho anche un indirizzo aggiuntivo (nel mio caso con Yahoo! Mail) che sfrutto in un modo piuttosto particolare. Ora ve lo spiego.

Ogni volta che voglio ricordarmi di fare una cosa importante, se sono davanti al computer non faccio altro che spedirmi una mail all'indirizzo Yahoo! (che funziona come un box di sola entrata), in modo tale da riceverla sempre nel mio inbox Thunderbird con tutta l'altra posta. Se invece di essere un messaggio si tratta di una pagina web, faccio esattamente lo stesso, ma uso uno specifico bookmarklet di Google che si chiama Share/Email (lo trovate qui); questo mi permette di spedire in automatico un link alla pagina tramite il mio account Gmail. Se avete anche voi un account Google, basta che lo copiate e incollate nel vostro browser, meglio se Firefox.

Tutti i messaggi si raccolgono nell'inbox, e lì rimangono fino a quando non vengono implementati, piuttosto che semplicemente stivati nel caso di informazioni da collezionare. In quest'ultimo caso tornano buoni i folder di Thunderbird, che io uso a profusione per catalogare in modo razionale tutta l'informazione. (Volendo, posso anche impostare dei filtri in modo da raccogliere automaticamente le mail negli appositi folder. Ma per ora preferisco farlo manualmente. Gli amanti dell'automazione totale potranno in ogni caso sbizzarrirsi...)

In questo modo ottengo una piattaforma di riferimento molto efficace, e soprattutto comoda e diretta. Provate anche voi questo mix.

Um einen schnelles Datenbankmanagment zu gewährleisten werden gelöschte Mails nicht gelöscht sondern nur "ausgeblendet", unter Verwendung der Komprimierungsoption, wird die *.mbox Datei neu geschrieben und die Datenbank bereinigt und nicht mehr benötigte Inhalte werden wirklich gelöscht

Certamente molti di noi, per lavoro o per divertimento, useranno la posta elettronica utilizzando webmail client (client di posta elettronica direttamente sul sito del fornitore, vedi libero.it, yahoo.it, gmail e via dicendo) o client installati direttamente nel computer. Di quest'ultima categoria sicuramente i più conosciuti sono Microsoft Outlook Express (PC)/Microsoft Entourage (MAC), Mail (Bundle OS X) o Eudora (Multiplatform).

Oggi vi parlerò di Thunderbird, un potente client di posta elettronica open source, totalmente gratuito, che cambierà il nostro modo di mandare e gestire le email.

Stanchi dello spam e stressati dalla pubblicità nella casella di posta? Mozilla Thunderbird integra lo strumento più potente per individuare lo spam. Il nostro strumento analizza le e-mail e identifica quelle che più probabilmente assomigliano a spam. Sarà possibile avere lo spam eliminato o spostato automaticamente in un'altra cartella.

Per attivare il filtro antispam, andare in Strumenti > Controlli posta indesiderata..., cliccare sulla scheda Filtri Incrementali e spuntare la voce Abilita i controlli posta indesiderata.

Visualizzate le e-mail nel modo in cui volete. Scegliete tra tre opzioni di visualizzazione. Selezionate la configurazione della barra degli strumenti. Personalizzate la barra degli strumenti, ed usate la visualizzazione dei messaggi per muovervi velocemente tra le e-mail.

Alla fine, tutte queste possibilità vi renderanno più produttivi ed efficienti, che è lo scopo ultimo di Mozilla Thunderbird.

Mozilla Thunderbird gestisce programmi per la sicurezza di altissimo grado, come S/MIME, firma digitale, cifratura dei messaggi, supporto per i certificati e i dispositivi di sicurezza.

A differenza di molti altri prodotti, Mozilla Thunderbird non permette agli script di eseguirsi in automatico. Da questo ne risulta un prodotto più sicuro rispetto agli altri programmi di posta in commercio e aiuta a fermare la diffusione di worm e virus attraverso il web.

Lo mismo ocurrió una semana antes de eso, cuando vio la luz Firefox 2.0.0.13. Thunderbird también era afectado por muchas de las mismas vulnerabilidades de Firefox, y a pesar de que Mozilla advertía en el mismo aviso de que los problemas eran solucionados en la versión 2.0.0.13 de Thunderbird, la misma brillaba por su ausencia. En realidad, la última versión de Thunderbird seguía siendo la 2.0.0.12, publicada en febrero.

Recién el primero de mayo, Mozilla anunció la publicación de la versión 2.0.0.14 de su cliente de correo electrónico, para los sistemas Windows, Mac y Linux. Según la información, la misma solucionaría al menos dos vulnerabilidades, identificadas en los avisos MFSA 2008-14 y MFSA 2008-15.

La primera es un asunto con JavaScript que permite la elevación de privilegios y la ejecución arbitraria de código, y la segunda puede provocar el fallo del programa con evidencias de corrupción de memoria.

Recordemos que ésta actualización (la MFSA 2008-15), hizo que Mozilla publicara unos días después una corrección para Firefox, debido a un problema ocasionado por el propio parche. Ese problema no afecta a Thunderbird.

Ambas vulnerabilidades están catalogadas como moderadas.

Existem inúmeros clientes de e-mail atualmente disponíveis no mercado. Em qualquer um deles você precisará utilzar um conjunto de dados para cadastrar uma ou mais contas de e-mail que você possuir.

Em nosso exemplo, vamos simular a configuração de uma conta de e-mail no software Outlook Express, uma das mais populares ferramentas de e-mail existentes. Usando procedimento semelhante, você também poderá configurar o software Firebird, que é praticamente um clone do Outlook Express.

Passo-a-passo

1- Abra o Outlook Express e acesse o menu Ferramentas / contas;

2- Clique então no botão "Adicionar" e escolha a opção "E-mail", conforme a figura a seguir:

3- Nome para exibição: Defina um nome para identificação da conta (ex: seu nome ou o nome de sua empresa):

4- Defina em seguida o endereço completo do e-mail que será configurado:

5- Defina o endereço dos servidores de recebimento (POP) e envio (SMTP) conforme a figura abaixo, substituindo o trecho "seusite" pelo domínio hospedado:

6- ATENÇÃO: Esta próxima configuração é uma das mais importantes. No campo "Nome da conta" você deve digitar o e-mail completo, não apenas o login. Faça como na figura abaixo, substituindo o trecho "seuemail" pelo login da conta de e-mail que você criou, e o trecho "seudominio.com.br" pelo domínio que você está hospedando.

7- Após esta configuração, a conta aparecerá na listagem de Contas de e-mail configuradas:

8 - Dê um duplo clique na conta recém-configurada e acesse a guia "Servidores":

9- Marque a caixa "Meu servidor requer autenticação" e em seguida clique no botão "Configurações". Marque a opção conforme figura abaixo e pronto. Agora é só baixar seus e-mails:

7 - No campo Nome da conta coloque seu email completo (seuemail@seudominio.com.br)

8 - Clique no botão Concluir.
