Yep, the Diva Impressions Crows are th(c)rowing a Party... and everyone's invited! Seriously, the Weekend Taggers want an unusually-shaped tag and Saturday's Workout is to use a sponge technique, so I combined them and made this chipboard tag bookmark and an ATC for Halloween.

These crows look so shabby, it's as if they've been sprayed with webbing stuff! I managed that texture by heating liquid gloss till it popped!! I then picked off the excess to leave them looking scruffy!!!! I'll try anything once!

I really like the sinister look of this image and I gave the Cat white eyes... as if he's dead!!! I think I'm in 'Grimm' mood today!

So, I don't know if anyone of noticed yet, but I've gone back and started to tag important information. I'm not sure I'm doing this right but guess what? I don't care! Haha, but out of all serious, I don't care if I'm doing this right or wrong, I'm going to do it my way.

So not much has been going on in my life. I'm still trying to get a job so I can have money for gas so I can drive to school. So far it isn't going well because I currently have no money and that means no gas which means I can't go and look for jobs. Now most of you are probably saying "Jeff, why don't you just apply on-line"? I have, its just I haven't got any phone calls back.

I recently made an appointment to get my senior pictures taken. As I've been informed, my mom ordered four different outfits. So far I have my Baseball Jersey, A Suit, A button-down shirt, and normal clothes. I was told by the company that it would only take an hour and a half however I've been told by my friends that it will take around 3 hours!

Other than that nothing has been happening. As many of you already know I had to restore my computer to system settings meaning I lost all of my music. With this comes great downloading. So here is your suggestion of the week.

If you noticed I've suggested some music about every week. I believe I'm going to continue this and start a thing with it.

This suggestion of the week will be no other than the talked about Katy Perry.

I'm very suprised at how good her CD "One of the Boys" really is. I've been stuck on "I've Kissed a Girl". I find it pretty addicting. According to my brother she's been around the block for a while now but for those who have no idea who she is I would suggest you check her out. Her music is a mix of Pop with a bit of Rock mixed in. I think most of you who share my taste of music will agree.

So, for the past two months our Apartment Complex has been undergoing “maintenance.” Bas

So, for the past two months our Apartment Complex has been undergoing "maintenance." Basically, the same crew of four painters have been painting the 120 apartments on the property. They have finally worked up to my section of apartments, and have been painting the trim.

You would have to live under a rock to not notice that all the buildings are being painted, so naturally, I knew about it. However, the apartment manager did not distribute any notices letting the residents know. This bugs me. Whatever, as long as they are not going inside I don't care. It bugs me that they have a ladder set up on my landing and I can't really get out of my door but... whatever. They are not inside.

Since I happened to ask one of the painters, I knew that they were doing the door today. I assumed, they would not be entering my building without permission, or notice. I was wrong. Luckily, I was prepared and locked the cat in the other room. (Again, we aren't supposed to have any pets) However, it didn't look like anybody had been inside when I got home early from work. I opened my door, locked it behind me, and turned on the AC.

Meanwhile, I'm watching TV, catching up on my favorite blogs and I hear my doorknob trying to be unlocked. What the??... I'm hoping it's Tristan but I'm kind of worried about it so I wait... if it was a painter, wouldn't they knock? NOPE! It was, in fact, a painter, and he had opened the door of my home without notice, without asking, without anything. Just... entered. He apologized and said he didn't think anybody was home... Well who gives a shit if I'm home or not? Don't you provide notice or request permission first?

So... I'm pissed. Nobody told me they were going to be coming INSIDE our apartments to paint the exterior door. Nobody warned me, my apartment is a mess and I have numerous valuables lying around.I don't think they'd steal anything... but still. It's my private space. What good is an apartment if you have no privacy? I don't want somebody on my landing looking in my windows and opening the door whenever they damn well feel.

Two days ago, they draped their painters cloth over my brand new car so that they didn't splatter paint on it. Thanks guys, only next time, make sure there isn't paint on THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CLOTH! Jackasses. Also, they left their paintbrush and the lid to the paint can on top of the cloth. My brand new car is not a table for you to lay your shit on. Certainly, you would ask before you did such a thing? Wrong.

I'm pissed. I don't feel protected, I don't feel private, I don't feel happy or comfortable. My mace is a stone's throw away and yet these guys could easily overpower me if they felt the need. I doubt they even did background checks on them. As I type, they sit on my landing smoking their cigarettes, not caring that the smoke is blowing right under my door and right into my AC. Thanks assholes. Thanks a lot.

Also, work cut me after two hours into my eight hour shift. So much for making any money today. :(

P.S. Does anybody know how to input tags on Windows Live Writer? All I can find is the Category field.

Television Review: Corner Gas

One of the funniest television shows around was created by the king of Canadian comedy. Okay, done laughing? I know, I didn’t even know that Canada had a sense of humor until I saw Rick Moranis in Strange Brew, and that didn’t get funny until my fifth beer. Each night, on WGN America, Canadian comedian Brent Butt stars in Corner Gas, a show about how his life would have turned out had he not left his very small Canadian home town for the bright lights and big city living of Saskatchewan. (Or Ottawa or Newfoundland or whatever; I’m American so I don’t know much about Canada.) Butt’s Corner Gas (snicker) manages to be both simple and clever, original and familiar. It avoids shocking and offensive humor, instead finding laughs in a PG but still lighthearted adult manner. The show is produced in a traditional, but nowadays rarely used (at least successfully), style, but still manages the occasional postmodern turn, such as an absurd cutaway or odd pop culture reference. I would say Corner Gas is old school television: it attempts thirty minutes of witty, easy laughs, and actually delivers. Now, maybe Canada will be known for more than hockey and . . . uh ... their bacon ... and, uh ....

How to Keep Up with the Semantic Space

Fact: Reshma Sohoni, chief executive of Seedcamp (the VC accelerator focusing on European tech start

Fact: Reshma Sohoni, chief executive of Seedcamp (the VC accelerator focusing on European tech startups) said in an interview this week that "In the past few months, we’ve seen a lot more developments around the semantic web," and talked about the coming value of semantic web services.

Analysis: There's never-ending buzz about the semantic space. Just this week John Conroy writing at the Content Matters blog had a long and interesting piece examining "three ingredients needed to enable and popularize the semantic Web," with the aim of answering "if we really are on the cusp of a content revolution."

Also, I admit it, I can't stop playing with the semantic-space startups, whether it's Sensebot or the newly launched Evri, or Powerset (just acquired by Microsoft, as I wrote about previously).

If you're thinking of the future of digital information use, you can't get enough of the semantic stuff. I've been blogging on the topic in small ways (search above for "semantic") - but likely will be doing much more throughout the year.

it's increasingly difficult to keep up with the flood of semantic developments, but Henry Story over at Sun's "BabelFish Blog" often covers semantic topics, and yesterday he had one big blog entry, "My Semantic Web Blogroll." It's just an excellent list of other blogs and research sites chronicling advances in the space, some of which I had never heard of. It's too much reading to serve as a dedicated blogroll over on the margin, really - who has the time? As Henry puts it, "The following are the semantic web blogs I follow closely. I am sure I must be missing many others that are interesting. Though I already am way past the point of information overload."

I have several different semantic blogs and research sites I follow on my own blogroll (right margin), and I also read the technical blogs published by startups themselves, for example Radar Networks, Powerset, and Hakia (see here for their blogs).

But until someone (Microsoft?) builds the definitive semantically enabled web-research site, you'll have to track these topics somewhat manually. I definitely recommend Henry's longer and specialized list of sites. Here's just a selected chunk of his recommended pages, with his thumbnail description of each:

Aparna tagged me again…. and dont worry Punarvasu, Ash, and Ashwin. You will also get this tag

Aparna tagged me again.... and dont worry Punarvasu, Ash, and Ashwin. You will also get this tag :D

Rule: Please thoughtfully consider the following, and choose one item for each of the categories below. (Be sure to describe your reasons for choosing)

1) One religious work from a non-familiar tradition you’ll read…

Hmmm.... Tough one, this. I am not familiar with Hinduism itself. So after reading Bhagavad Gita, I would like to read the Best Seller, maybe.

2) One song that you like–from your ‘least likely to listen to’ genre…

I dont listen to Devotional songs. But I like "Kurai ondrum illai...." song. Maybe I have got the genre wrong. I still like that song. :)

3) A book from a genre you almost never read, that you have read, or you will read (promise!):

Lee Iacocca's (Okka makka, what a name) auto biography. I never prefer non fiction. But I liked this book a lot.

4) Somewhere you’d never thought to go on holiday/vacation, and why it might be fun to go there?

To office, maybe, and see how the others slog it out?? Even if they give me work, I can always flaunt the "&^#^ off. Am on vacation" attitude. :P On a more serious note, I would like to go to Phuket beach. Why?? The answer is bloody obvious :D

5) A specific food you’ve never tried, but will because of this meme, honest!

Drunken noodles. Made of noodles and rice wine :) Should go to Shiok food one day.

6) A sport or game you really hate, or haven’t tried yet, but are willing to give one more go:

Would like to have one more go at games you play with cards, that is, card games, like Solitaire. :P Very bored with them.

7) A style of dance you probably won’t try (we won’t make you promise on this one)

Dance?? Me?? Hmmm.... Apart from Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Kathakali, Kuchipidi, Karagaattam, I also wouldnt try dancing around a bottle. Neruppu Koothadikkuthu.... :) But I enjoy watching dance. Even if its by Karadi

8 ) A career job you don’t feel you’re suited for, and why:

Never felt suited for a Desk job, where I need to clock in for 8 - 9 hours and slog away. I want a job that will take me around the world. Hmmm... for now, I do that by day dreaming.

9) What is it that you will dare to wear which you have never worn before?

Green shirt, red pant. Go Ramarajan, Go
10) If there’s one thing in life you wanted to do, and will do because of this meme, what will it be?

There are many things I want to do.... So, I really cant say, After all, You cant differentiate between the two eyes.... naah, old example... ok, between all the cells in your body, can you??

As for the tagging part.. ivaala vitta vaera yaaru irukkaa?? :)

Punarvasu,

Ash, and

Ashwin

PS: Talks are on with one close buddy of mine for guest contribution to this blog. Looks like it will happen. So waiting to have that person on board soon and spread the cheer. :) More details if and when it happens.

The idea - in these free spaces manufacturers could add additional information - if its produced garment is bleeding color or not.

Because if it is not bleeding any color then you can wash your red hoody with white socks at permissible temperatures.

Everyday new people begin to use WordPress for the first time. Since I joined in March the number

Everyday new people begin to use Wordpress for the first time. Since I joined in March the number of Wordpress blogs has gone from 2.5 to 3.6 million. I imagine there are also those users who have used Wordpress for a while now, but do not take advantage of all the features. I would like to share a few tips and tricks that have made my use of Wordpress more useful and enjoyable.

On the Wordpress main page (wordpress.com) there is a list on the right hand side of topics. If you were to click on "religion" you would see a list of items recently posted under the category religion. You would also see a more detailed list of related topics, such as Christianity, faith, Bible, God, Jesus, and so on. This is one way of browsing topics of interest. Another way is from your Dashboard. At the top of your Dashboard (and I'm talking to people I assume have Wordpress accounts) there is a button labeled "tag surfer." Tag surfer is also an option under the "My Account" tab always at the top of your page when signed in. Tag surfer keeps up with tags that you use when posting, and lists related posts. You can x out tags you don't want searched for, or add tags you would like to see. Reading related blogs and leaving comments can drive traffic your way, especially if your blog is new and relatively unknown.

In previous posts I've suggested looking into RSS (Really Simple Syndication). A feed reader, such as Google, Bloglines or Technorati, acts like a file cabinet for blogs that you subscribe to. In my right sidebar is a list of readers that you can easily direct my blog feed to. RSS can deliver blog posts, news, sports and weather, even follow comment threads on individual posts. The advantage of a reader is that it automatically updates when a blog you subscribe to posts something new. You don't have to visit each blog you read to see if they have new content up or not. Wordpress FAQ can help you learn more.

There are many different themes for designing your page, and I took advantage of the custom header design feature, which many themes support. Wordpress will crop and size any image you have to fit the header space, making your blog design truly your own. I suggest shopping around by looking at other blogs. Misty Look is a very popular theme; I use Contempt. At the very bottom of the page, a Wordpress blog will tell you what theme you are looking at. Some features work differently with various themes, so it might be something you have to play with to find out what you like. For instance, I don't list pages in my sidebar because Contempt automatically lists them across the top.

I've said before that I blog for me; it's like therapy, and I would continue writing even if no one read it at all. If you want to get good, here are few pieces of advice: 1) Read twice (or three times) as much as you write. Reading other blogs, written by people who write better than you, should make your writing better. 2) Post on a regular basis. I know I don't always do it, but I try to write at least every other day. These guys that post 3 or 4 times a day have great blogs, I just don't know what they do for a living. 3) Have a healthy blogroll, a list of blogs you enjoy reading. Chances are your readers might enjoy those same ones. 4) Link to other blogs and/or websites. If you read a good article you want to share with others, give a short quote and link to it. Don't just steal someone else's stuff and repost it. Along with a decent blogroll, these will make your blog a portal to other places on the web, and make visiting your blog something to look forward to. 5) Blog on things recent or relevant in the news or goings on. This will attract search engine users to your site. My posts on Outrigger Island (this summer's vbs) have attracted over 1,000 hits from people searching the web for vbs ideas in general and Outrigger Island in particular. 6) List your blog on sites like Blog Catalog or Technorati. Many sites will list your blog for free, and some will even sell you ad space. 7) Remember that what you put on the internet is accessible worldwide, and will stay around for a long time. Deleting a thought, comment or photo from your website will not make it disappear. It could still be viewed by search engines for months, and if another user copies and reposts, it's out of your hands forever.

These are just of few of the things that have helped me the past few months as I've learned to blog. Some I was taught, others I learned the hard way. If you write interesting stuff on a regular (or at least a somewhat regular) basis, your audience will grow. Do you have advice of your own to share, or perhaps a question or two? Hit me up with a comment and let's rap.

One more thing: even as I'm posting this, Wordpress has just released version 2.6. I haven't upgraded yet, but my friends at A Small Faith have and did so with ease. Click here to watch a short video on 2.6 features.

[caption id="attachment_100" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Error in segment"][/caption]

Once a translation or edit has been finished on MemoQ some checks need to be done to ensure that everything has been covered and the best quality in the translation. Here are the steps to be followed:

Run the Spell Check by pressing F7. This will show a dialong window as the one shown below. Go through all the segments there are none to be reviewed.
[caption id="attachment_91" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Spell Check"][/caption]

Check that there are no errors shown in the status bar in the bottom. You will also notice them by the red circle with the exclamation mark to the right of the target column.

Correct the error by going into the segment and adding the appropriate tags so as to have as many as in the source and in similar places and reconfirming the segments until the red circle disappears. See Handling tags in MemoQ and DV X.

Go back to the Project Manager tab and choose all those files that you want to export that are at 100% status, right click them and choose Export Bilingual.

[caption id="attachment_97" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Export Bilingual"][/caption]

This will create an MBD file that will contain both the source and target and will be the file used by the editor if you are translating, or by the PM to reexport if there's any problem with the final file delivered.

Go back to the Project manager window and choose all those files that you want to export that are at 100% status, right click them and choose Export (dialog).
[caption id="attachment_98" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Export (dialog)"][/caption]

Deliver both of these files to the PM and editor (if applicable).

I seem to in love with these Tag posts. I just found another one on Suuuu's blog. It is called the Random Book Tag. The rules are simple again:

1) Pick up the nearest book

2) Open to page 123

3) Find the fifth sentence

4) Post the next three sentences

5) Tag five people, and acknowledge the person who tagged you.

I am right now reading The Sicilian by Mario Puzo and hence it is the nearest to me. And this is the fifth sentence in page 123:

It was the Don's pleasure. The officers and men of the American Military Government detachment were like sons to him, and like any doting father he showered them with gifts. These men, specially chosen for their understanding of Italian character and culture, since many of them were of Sicilian origin, returned his love.
