Last night I purchased another USB hard drive to backup my MacBook. That brings my USB drive count up to five. This is a one touch maxtor 160gb drive. Why so many? Because I have been burnt too many times by not having my computer backed up or I'll experience a system or hard drive crash. Well not that many times but twice is one time too many. Plus it's good to have a cloned mini one touch drive to have around for those unexpected system crashes.

The process will be a nightly backup using an application called super durper, use another drive as a time machine backup. The other drives are used for file storage.

I'm just glad hard drive prices are so cheap now, because it looks like I'll be buying a 1TB drive soon to backup my backup drives.

Our homeschool group met for another great field trip. Today we visited the Steamboat Arabia Museum. This steamboat sunk in the Missouri River in 1856 while loaded to the brim with goods to be sold at general stores in the midwest. Some men went treasure hunting for this particular steamboat 132 years later and uncovered a pre-Civil War Walmart.

The mud and water preserved the contents of this sunken steamboat. The coffee beans still smelled fresh, the pickles still edible, the textiles and dishes still brilliant. The things that did deteriorate were plant materials such as cotton, yet products from animals remained, such as wool, leather, silk. Many shoes and boots were found, including rubber shoes stamped Goodyear on the bottom. The cotton thread had deteriorated, so to restore the leather shoes, they had to be resewn by hand. A great effort was made to sew into the original holes. One box of cotton dresses had completely deteriorated leaving behind layer upon layer of colored mud and at the bottom of the wooden crate, the remaining buttons and hooks.

I highly recommend this museum if you are ever in the Kansas City area. It is small, but truly amazing.

I received Leopard yesterday so I decided to run a quick backup and before I installed. I decided to just use my iPod as the external hard drive. I downloaded Apple's Backup 3 and set it to backup my iLife to my iPod. I started it last night and it finally finished at 7:30 this morning. Then I was going to try to back up my home directory and found I didn't have enough space. Two things are happening here that are disturbing me. First, the backup seemed to have taken a really long time. Now, maybe this is "normal" but I didn't like it. Second, I needed more space. So to solve the first problem, I've downloaded Super Duper. Try another program to see if it works faster. To solve the second problem, I'm going to purchase an external hard drive. I'll let you know how well the Super Duper and External Hard Drive combo works later. Once I have Leopard installed, I'm going to see about doing a comparison of Windows Vista and Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.

Hallo,

Its 4 years since this ad came out but I just saw it today and was very impressed that I had to shelve my other subjects that I wanted to blog.

In my opinion, this work is nothing short of pure brilliance. I reckon the process involved in coming up with such an ad was nothing short of creative artistry, hence the outcome.

In fact, the ad agency (180 Amsterdam) that came up with this ad actually took out the 2003 print Epica d’Or award. Oh, and the Epica d'Or awards is the equivalent of the Oscars in Europe in the world of Ad agencies, Film production companies and Photographers.

Anyways, these guys also did this for some other Rugby players as well, including Tana Umaga, Jona Lomu and Ritchie McCaw. Check em out below....

The full story is at the epic awards site. Go there to see the details of the production process.
