Their cute public display of solidarity went as follows, “We are issuing this statement together to emphasize the fact that we are in complete agreement on the date we have chosen to release “The Reader.” Working together, we developed a plan to extend the post-production schedule in order to give Stephen Daldry the additional time he needs to successfully complete the film in time to release it on December 12, 2008.”

Stephen Daldry said, “On their own, Scott and Harvey spent this weekend working together to find a way to accommodate my needs so that I may fulfill my obligation to the studio without compromising my vision for the film. I am thrilled and relieved that we have all found a way forward to work together to bring ‘The Reader’ to theaters this year.”

So yeah, there you have it. I feel nothing, I still won't get to see it until after the Oscar race is done and dusty, so. But if it affects the overall quality of the final product, that just reeks of greediness and I don’t want a part of that. On the upside, this means another potentially great film will open this year, instead of next year, and that is always a good thing. And it’s Kate Winslet, and what’s a Winslut to do. As long as she doesn't end up being her own competition, because if anyone deserves some Oscar love already, it's her. This show is so not over, so stay tuned.

According to the Hollywood Reporter the two titans of film distribution (Weinstein obviously runs the Weinstein Company and ex of Miramax, Rudin is an uber-producer who won the Academy Award last year for producing, "No Country For Old Men") are at a "intense back-and-forth," which means both men have at least put in tentative calls to hitmen to see how much it will cost to off one another and to determine the chances of being caught/traced back to.

A romance set in postwar Germany starring Ralph Fiennes, Kate Winslet, our fave Alexandra Maria Lara, directed by Stephen Daldry and currently in post-production, test screenings have apparently gone really well and so Weinstein wants it out in December. However, Rudin is lobbying hard for a 2009 release, probably because he already has, "Revolutionary Road," and "Doubt" both coming out in December and he doesn't want to have to work against himself.

But Weinstein could give a fuck as he's thinking that 'Reader' is his only hope for an Oscar this year, aside from maybe Penelope Cruz in "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" and "The Road" which could be a tough sell; the 'Reader' has more of the sweeping, Anthony Minghella-like elements that the Academy members love — the late director was one of the original producers, naturally.

Rudin and Weinstein had a similar Daldry clash over "The Hours." Both producers declined to comment for the THR stories and insiders are undecided who which of the immovable objects will budge. Though one person quoted anonymously says, "Harvey is probably going to win this one, but Scott isn't going to go down without a fight." We're not so sure, you'd probably need to start a marketing awareness campaign soon and so far, most people haven't heard about "The Reader," or have it anywhere on their radar for the late-fall schedule.

Lawyers are apparently gathering their weaponry as we speak. Could be an interesting public battle. Nicole Kidman was once attached to star in the film, but dropped out because she became pregnant.

4- Secretária (Secretary)Vai me dizer que não é um dos mais românticos filmes da década? Foda-se Cinderela, este é o conto de fadas da mulher problemática contemporânea. Ainda ressuscitou James Spader e nos apresentou todo o potencial e esplendor de Maggie Gyllenhaal.

5- O Senhor dos Anéis: As Duas Torres (The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers)Tolkien também já foi alvo de minhas obsessões tal qual Virginia, avançando os tentáculos através de Wagner, William Morris, Jung, linguística, vida e obra com direito a C.S. Lewis e tudo. Apesar de ser o pior filme da trilogia (ou o menos melhor?), estará sempre na minha lista de grandes sensações presenciadas numa sala de cinema.

Real melhor filme do ano: Não sei! Talvez As Horas, talvez Spider... Vai saber!

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Directed By: David Fincher
Starring: Brad Pitt / Cate Blanchett / Tilda Swinton

Zodiac was royally shafted at the Academy Awards this year. I thought it should have been nominated for picture, adapted screenplay, supporting actor (Robert Downey Jr) and visual effects. It probably wouldn't have won any, but it should have had some recognition.

That said, I think Benjamin Button is going to get Fincher back in the game.

Burn After Reading

After the amazing No Country for Old Men last year, it looks like the Coens are back in action with a dark screwball comedy (their forte) with a great ensemble cast. It will be nice to see Frances McDormand in a Coen film again.

Looks like a Titanic cast reunion. Add in the director of American Beauty and Road to Perdition and you have an awesome combination.

Robert Downey Jr. has been in an insane number of films the last few years. That's all.

Quite simply, this looks epic, and I do not want to miss seeing it on the silver screen. It may end up being the next Lawrence of Arabia for all we know. And you can't go wrong with Hugh Jacman.

Since 2002, DiCaprio hasn't disappionted me once as an actor. He just keeps plugging away. With 8 films in the next two years, he's going to be a busy man. And to top it off, the preview reminded me a little bit of Michael Mann's Heat, which is never a bad thing.

I've heard really good things about the Shanley's play, which this is based on. And what a great cast.

Com grandes doses de maquiagem, várias próteses e uma peruca grisalha, a atriz britânica Kate Winslet, 32 anos, "envelheceu" várias décadas para dar vida a uma idosa nazista em seu novo filme, The Reader.

A atriz mudou radicalmente o visual para interpretar Hanna Schmitz, uma ex- vigilante de um campo de concentração nazista que tenta ocultar seu passado na Alemanha do pós-guerra.

O drama sobre o Holocausto, dirigido por Stephen Daldry, está sendo gravado atualmente em Berlim e tem a participação de Ralph Fiennes.

Kate protagoniza The Reader após substituir a atriz Nicole Kidman, que teve que abandonar o projeto por estar grávida.

Muito embora o filme traga três personagens femininas, é do lado feminino de ser que cada um de nós temos, homens e mulheres, que ele mostra. E esse olhar feminino vem pelo poeta, justamente por um personagem masculino. Um jeito romântico de ser e de olhar o mundo. Lindo!

Aí ficam perguntas... Tudo tem que ser tão certinho? Tudo tem que sempre ser encarado dentro da normalidade, daquilo que já está pré-estabelecido? A mola do mundo também é movimenta por algo fora dos padrões, fora do convencional. Sempre teremos tempo de subverter a engrenagem. Ou não, pois o tempo não para. As horas voam... Onde estaria, melhor, onde ficaria o sonho, o desejo, a vontade em traçar seu próprio destino? Pois, levar uma vida dupla, onde a real é por pura obrigação, onde a de sonhos é escapismos, há de chegar uma hora que não aguentará mais. E ai...

Não li o livro do qual o filme foi baseado. Como também ainda não li o livro de Virgínia Woolf, "Mrs. Dalloway" que faz parte do filme. Esse me motivou a mais em ler. Então, focarei o filme. E sem entrar muito na patologia da escritora, por não ser a minha praia. O filme mostra um dia ímpar na vida de algumas pessoas. Com ela, escrevendo os esboços de mais um livro. Que viria a ser seu último trabalho. Como também, anos depois (Em 1951 e em 2001; nos EUA.), vidas alteradas em alguns dos leitores desse mesmo livro. Um dia que ficará marcado para sempre.

O que me cativou de pronto foi o lance dela ficar buscando uma frase para então iniciar o texto. Sem nenhuma pretensão nessa comparação, lhes digo que eu era assim. Para qualquer texto que escrevia, mesmo para uma redação na escola, buscava por uma frase para iniciar. Após encontrá-la, o texto fluía naturalmente.

Nicole Kidman faz a Virgínia Woolf. Confesso a vocês que não a reconheci de imediato. Só fui mesmo notar quando outra pessoa comentou. Parabéns pela performance e pelo visual!

Virgínia, após encontrar a frase... Ótima por sinal! Eu adoro flores! ...pensa no rumo que dará aos personagens. Sua intenção inicial era matar a protagonista. Sua inquietude também por conta de sua doença a faz parar por algumas horas e olhar o mundinho que a cerca. De onde se deprime por saber que está presa ao seu problema. Gostaria que mais do que drogarem-na, que os médicos encontrassem uma solução. Durante esse correr do dia... Constata que sua casa funciona sem ela, pois as criadas tomam as decisões que deveriam vir dela. Talvez, numa de punir, faz a empregada ir comprar gengibre em Londres.

Depois, com a visita da irmã com os filhos, capta mais coisas. Visita essa que por terem chegado antes da hora, irrita o marido (Stephen Dillane). A irmã (Miranda Richardson) lhe diz que é uma privilegiada, por poder viver duas vidas: a real e a dos livros. Mas Virgínia queria mesmo viver outra vida. Até da irmã, já seria bem-vinda. E por conta de um cerimonial junto com a sobrinha para um pássaro à beira da morte... reflete mais agora também sobre a sua vida real.

Uma das passagens mais tocante é dela com o marido na estação de trem. (Algo sadio em qualquer relacionamento: o de discutir a relação.) O que cada um falou para o outro. Mas que deixou uma pergunta: Será que ambos ouviram o que o outro dizia de fato? Claro, que eles tentaram. (Atualmente, eu diria que num caso semelhante, precisariam da ajuda de um profissional.). Mas diante do quadro clínico dela e por Leonard ser meio avesso às mudanças repentinas, não houve o acesso até ela. Mesmo havendo amor entre eles, um não conseguia satisfazer o outro. Numa parte, quando ela diz estar entediada ali naquele lugar, ele lhe diz que ela sentia o mesmo na agitação da capital. Ele bem que tentou dentro do limite dele, do jeito dele, fez o que julgava estar certo e por amor a ela. Mais uma vez estava disposto a mudar a si próprio por ela. Mas não era isso que ela queria. Virgínia queria não apenas libertar-se, como também não manter ninguém preso a si. E eles não se entenderam.

As outras duas histórias, mesmo passadas em anos diferentes, irão se unir de fato nesse único dia. Não, não se trata de nenhuma viagem do tempo, vendo o filme irão entender melhor. Por hora, vou tentar contar sem estragar a surpresa de quem ainda não viu esse filme.

Laura Brown (Julianne Moore) leva a vida de uma dona de casa padrão. Casada. Mãe de um menino e encontra-se grávida de outro. No dia do aniversário do seu marido, Dan (John C. Reilly), algo acontece que a faz mudar radicalmente a sua vida. Pontua essa decisão não apenas a história do livro, mas a conversa com a amiga Kitty (Toni Collette). Essa, por estar na iminência de não mais poder gerar um filho considera a amiga uma privilegiada. Mas essa não é a vida que ela queria levar. Laura queria libertar-se. Mas como sair daquela engrenagem? O que seria do seu garotinho? Certo ou errado, Laura segiu com a sua decisão.

Passados mais alguns anos... Conhecemos Clarissa Vaughan (Meryl Streep) que como na manhã da história do livro, sai para comprar flores. Também irá dar uma festa. Seu grande e inestimável amigo Richard (Ed Harris) ganharam um prêmio. Prêmio esse que o colocava na lista dos grandes poetas. Mas que para ele, viera mesmo por ele se declarar aidético. Ela já incorporou em seu dia-a-dia ir cuidar dele. O que o deprime. Tal qual Virgínia com o marido, ele também se desgosta em precisar desses cuidados. A ama demais para mantê-la presa a ele. Ela tem uma filha (Claire Daines), ela tem Sally (Allison Janney). Tem a sua própria vida.

Assim, ao final de um único dia... após fazerem um mergulho profundo dentro de si mesmo... após reverem seus fantasmas, ou seriam seus piores pesadelos? Dormem o sono dos justos. Para alguns, um novo amanhecer surgirar. E por conta disso, mesmo sendo um clichezão, repito: Enquanto há vida, há esperança. Eu fico triste quando vejo um final com o fim de certos personagens. Triste, mas respeitando a decisão.

Esse entrou para a minha lista de que vale a pena rever, sempre! Filmaço! Nota máxima!

Prácticamente al mismo tiempo sedió a conocer el nombre de su sustituta. Kate Winslet ocupará el hueco dejado por Kidman en el filme. Curiosamente Kidman había fichado por la película sustituyendo a la propia Winslet. La razón fue que la esposa de Sam Mendes iba a rodar por aquellas fechas Revolutionary Road junto a su marido y Leonardo DiCaprio.

Como la producción de The Reader concedió una prórroga a Nicole Kidman para que finiquitara Australia (Bazz Luhrmann), ese retraso a favorecido que la cinta vuelva a cuadrar en la agenda de Winslet.

Ralph Fiennes y David Kross participan también en este relato sobre una aventura romántica entre un adolescente y una atractiva mujer durante el inicio de la Segunda Guerra Mundial.

Nos três períodos diferentes vivem três distintas mulheres ligadas ao livro "Mrs. Dalloway". Em 1923 vive Virginia Woolf (Nicole Kidman), autora do livro, que enfrenta uma crise de depressão e pensamentos de suicídio. São retratados no filme seu impulso, psicótico, a literatura e suas crises numa vida que ela sente não pertencer mais a ela.

Em 1949 vive Laura Brown (Julianne Moore), uma dona de casa grávida que mora em Los Angeles, planeja uma festa de aniversário para o marido e não consegue parar de ler o livro. O mesmo problema é enfrentado: Que liberdade temos de se escolher a vida que se tem?

Nos dias atuais vive Clarissa Vaughn (Meryl Streep), uma editora de livros que vive em Nova York e dá uma festa para Richard (Ed Harris), escritor que fora seu amante no passado e hoje está com Aids e morrendo.

O filme “As horas” nos remete a reflexão sobre o sentido de nossas vidas em relação as pessoas que nos cercam. Até que ponto podemos viver nossas vidas exclusivamente para os outros? Até onde podemos ir para agradar alguém?

O personagem Richie Brown, escritor, agora com AIDS em fase terminal, faz algumas provocações à personagem Clarissa Vaughan, sua ex-amante e atual editora:

A grande questão é: Há como viver para si próprio? Por que temos necessidade de manter nossa existência para os outros? Por amor? Por carinho? E nós?
