I drove to the Philippine Center for Traditional and Alternative Medicine or PCTAM a few blocks from one of my offices. I’ve been there many times before but only to take relatives and friends who need acupuncturing. This trip was for me.

Acupuncturists par excellance Cha Vargas and Jigs Clamor weren’t there. So I introduced myself to the desk. It must have been a slow afternoon as there were no other patients. The two staffs were glued to the Korean tele-novella on TV. After washing grime off my feet and taking off my shirt I plopped face down on one of the beds and got treated with ventosa and back massage pronto.

First, air was heated inside bamboo cups and attached to my back. I immediately felt my skin being sucked and stretched into the cups. It’s supposed to take away cold air in between my skin and muscles. Okey, fat. Ten cups stuck out of my broad back and I felt relieved right away. I drifted in and out of sleep. I would have snored all the way through it were it not for the harurot jeepneys with bayo sound set ups right outside the windows.

After 15 minutes, the cups were taken off. As each cup was being lifted, a hissing sound, not unlike an air brake, escaped from them.

Then I was given a vigorous back rub with aromatic oil. I felt my knotted muscles on my neck and back relax. Even my buns were kneaded and with every press I wanted to rip one out but didn’t. It must have felt good if I did.

All too soon, the treatment was over. I was asked to lie down for a while before getting up. Sa totoo lang, I would have wanted to not get up and just spend the night there.

For both procedures, I paid the grand sum P150. This is peanuts compared to the P600 Angel Tesorero paid for my full spa treatment some years back and the P300 I paid for my recent foot spa.) I suspect Jigs called the clinic up and told them to not charge me for the ventosa. (Jigs, bagong hugas ang bus and you could use it all you want!)

Driving to the CERV office, my body felt light and I felt bit drowsy. My back pain is gone. I haven’t felt this nice in a long while. I ate a huge dinner of pork sinigang after.

I’d be doing this again very soon. I wonder what to have next. Teeth cleaning? Facial? Liposuction? Lobotomy?

As published in Art du Voyage's Travel Notes, Spring 2008

What better way to fully experience the land of Bordeaux than with a wine massage? Four star luxury hotel Les Sources des Caudalie, nestled in the vineyards of Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte is home to the world's first Vinothérapie Spa. The treatments, drawn from antioxidant rich grapes, grape seeds, and vines, have started a global trend, with wine-spas popping up everywhere.

Les Sources de Caudalie offers much more than just spa treatments, though. With two grastronomic restaurants, a 3-hole golf cours, cooking classes with chef Franck Salein, wine tasting courses and an elegants cigar club, there's something for everyone.

Welcome to my page…
My name is Debra Felske and I am the founder of SIX FIGURE MAKERS … a community of REAL people who want REAL salon/spa marketing and personal development training.

I am also a Proud Member of the MILLION MIND MARCH and MY PRIVATE CLASSROOM … both mastermind communities of people who refuse to follow the crowd…ENTHUSIASTIC DOERS and THINKERS learning the “Mastery of Self”
6 years ago I was a divorced mother of five struggling to raise the last two teenagers, and all the friends they brought home….to live… you know, “it’s just for a couple of weeks Mom!”

I was tired all the time, worked 7 days a week, and hungry…teenagers go through a lot of food.

I thought the American Dream was my solution, start my own business, the brick and mortar type, with employees, overhead, maintenance, repair bills, travel time, inventory and $20k in start-up debt…4 years later, I was no further along in my goals and dreams…still working 7 days per week…and $80k in debt…including to the IRS!

I went on a journey that has led me through almost every book, cd and seminar on marketing and self development.

If you don’t believe me…check this out!

Robert Allen Protégé, Think and Grow Rich (Action Pack), Millionaire Mind 14 disc CD’s, Glazer-Kennedy Inner Circle and Mastermind Group, Salon Marketing Secrets, Rich Dad, Poor Dad (complete series and cash flow game), Power of Intuition, The Secret, The Law of Attraction, Die Broke, The One Minute Millionaire, The Millionaire Next Door, Power of Positive Thinking, What Color is Your Parachute, Goal Setting, The Bland Method, ……and many, many more.

I tried numerous MLM, direct sales and networking marketing programs, they all had systems, but no system that worked for me….or on me.

Then I discovered the internet…not the “what time does the movie start” internet…but the real…in-depth…exciting…people based internet. My turning point came when one of my new MLM clients showed me a training site…which led to an introduction to the Founder of My Private Classroom and co-founder of the Million Mind March. I was finally home….and now I spend the day spreading the good news, handing out free stuff and inviting people to hand out at our mastermind calls or join the famous WEBINARS GONE WILD!!!

Now I work 5 days a week in a career that I love, esthetics, I have been very successful and I make more money in less hours, even while I’m sleeping, by following the proven systems I have “discovered” through these AWESOME sites.

So visit my site http://www.DebraFelske.com collect some free gifts, hang out where you are Celebrated, not just tolerated!

Join live training calls every Monday at 9:27EST…send me a message to get the call in number and pin.

Why is it that I feel guilty for doing something for myself? I have all the reasons in the world wh

Why is it that I feel guilty for doing something for myself? I have all the reasons in the world why I shouldn't. It doesn't help.

I bought Elmo tickets for my almost two year old and I , and they were $70. I have to pay for two tickets, because gee, I would sure love to go watch Elmo. Parents should get discounts! But I don't feel guilty about that.

My husband royally pissed me off Monday. He went out and partied with his gross skeevy friend in Miami.
He is very nice but I don't think he has ever washed his hands. I will leave the rest to your imagination.

So my husband calls me, his phone is in the process of going dead. This is 11pm. Sometimes I can't sleep while he is out, for fear of drunk driving, car wrecks, being tossed in the drunk tank, etc. Here is my night when he is off getting wasted, staring at bitches, etc.

1:30 AM Take Xanax due to inability to sleep/worrying etc

3:00 AM Wake up, get panicky and then pissed, that I haven't heard from the offending party

5:15 AM Wake up, worry that he is dead on the side of the road somewhere, or maybe arrested for drunk driving.

8:00 AM Now I am very worried, feeling sick from lack of sleep, and PISSED OFF. Are there no phones in the entire city? Does your friend not have a phone ? Can't you borrow someone else's phone, call collect, or use one in a bar that you are probably still in? Are you 17 years old and unable to tolerate alcohol or stop when you are smashed? Did you forget that you have a family, responsibilities, and are legally considered an adult?

So I called and made myself an appointment- no- multiple appointments-for a massage, facial, and manicure/pedicure. I bought an entire package. I sent an email that said BE HOME BEFORE 3. I AM LEAVING FOR THE DAY. He is an email whore and of course got THAT message.

He came home, looking like a sheepish asshole, tried to apologize, but I had nothing to say except SEE YA later. And then went and spent some money getting pretty and un-pissed off.

I didn't ask for anything on Mothers' Day. I got Eggos and coffee in bed. Didn't have to change the poopy diaper, and had a sandwich made for me for lunch. Pizza for dinner. So I deserved this spa day, along with the retard husband factor. I should not feel bad. But I do.

Then I saw the bar bills (paid by debit card, at 1 am and 3 am at the same bar) and felt waaaaaay better. But still guilty. Then I saw the cost of the shooting range a week or two ago. Feeling better yet. But I also see that the new wheelchair wheels cost over $500 and wonder if that makes me feel worse.

Theme King Arthur and the Knights of the round table - a medieval castle affair. This is the biggest castle I have ever seen, supposedly based on one of German fairytale fame. You enter over one of many drawbridges guarded by statues of knights, some on horseback; a fanfare announces your arrival at the actual casino entrance (several hundred feet from the Strip) on the medieval travelator. As you enter the casino you will see court jesters and supposedly a fire breathing dragon, and although we have searched for it on many occasions we have never actually had the luck to see it.

Rooms The rooms are fair sized and clean and the basic rooms are dressed with "medieval" tapestries, there are showers and no tubs and they can seem a little dark. There are nicer remodeled room with 42" plasma TV's these are called widescreen rooms and reports say that they are very nice.

Attractions The magic motion machine is a 48 seat simulator showing various "simulations". There is a large arcade, in the basement I like to think of it as the dungeon where all the Children are sent ;) There is the court jester's stage upstairs giving a variety of free acts throughout the day.

Pool The pool was always small and horrible and full of kids, its been updated I have not seen it since but the area is not that large so I am guessing that its still small and still full of kids. If you are looking for a good pool scene its not here.

Shows and Entertainment Excalibur does surprisingly well here they have the tournament of kings which is Medieval knights jousting for your pleasure whilst you eat your dinner with only your hands. Thunder from Downunder an Australian Chippendale type revue for the ladies, Louie Anderson a "larger than life" comedian as well as guest headliners.

Dining A cheap and very busy buffet there are reports of it being very poor, I have only eaten breakfast here and I thought it was good. It’s cheap, so you aren’t going to get lobster but on the other hand it always has massive queues so it can't be that bad. (B $10.99, L $12.99 D $15.99 and Champagne Sunday lunch $14.99). There is the obligatory 24-hr coffee shop, a very good ice cream parlor and few snack bars as well as more expensive restaurants that I have not eaten in. They also have the WWF Nitro grill for wrestling fans and Wild Bills Saloon and Steakhouse, which has had good reviews. There is also now a Dicks Last Resort which is not for me but perfect for hen or stag nights.

Gaming A huge 123,944 sq ft of medieval fun including nearly 2,500 slots, 60 plus card tables and 7 roulette wheels. Many of the slots here seem to be of a medieval theme involving knights, dragons, fair maidens and the like. There is a very large selection of nickel slots here; well suitable for low rollers like me. Blackjack at $5 per hand, which is low for the strip and, a wonderful electronic roulette machine at 25c a go. The casino is a little dark keeping in with the old school casino but not too cramped although at weekends, probably because of the very low room rates, it did seem to get very crowded.

Drinks service, The drink service here was not bad but not good; we got served a lot quicker once we switched from nickels to quarters. I did get served very quickly when I was playing craps but seemed to be ignored whilst on video roulette.

Overall Excalibur is good value, has a good location and most of all is great fun. If you chose to stay here, and you could do much worse for your dollar, pay the extra $10 a night for a room view. The cheapest rooms face inwards giving you only a view of other rooms which some may like but most will hate.

Good points Great value for money, lots of low limit tables and fun atmosphere

Bad points You do get far more families here than other resorts, there are too many timeshare hawks!

Top Tip Make sure that you pay the extra (or bribe the check in clerk) to get a "view" room standard rooms look at other Excalibur towers.

Tuesday, May 13

Today was one of those days that seemed like there's just not enough hours in the day to get everything done that I wished to accomplish. I've been juggling a lot of time-sensitive projects at work, and then had a lunch date with a couple of ladies of the press. We met up at Tina's in Dundee and had a lovely lunch. It is invaluable to develop relationships and get to know friends of the media - local, national, syndiated or not.

I signed up for a Scandinavian-style sauna-steam for this Saturday morning at Loyly, which I intend to write about for my next blog post on theantitourist.com. I'm psyched to check this minimalist Euro styled spa.

After work, I spent my evening doing some yoga and abs strength training. Due to my recent health issues, I've been committed to trying to get back into practicing yoga and meditation. I would like to attend yoga classes, but I really need to get my finances in order.

I'm spending money on different things for my writing - blog upgrades, writing contests (yup, most require $10-$15 fees to enter work), etc. I would like to attend a few summer workshops, as well, either at Sitka Center for Arts & Ecology or Fishtrap. I have limited funds for that, too. With the gas prices soaring, it makes it even difficult to figure in when I can sign up for a tour and occassional daily usage of a writing room at Writer's Dojo in Portland - it's about a 30-40 minute drive from my home.

I decided to set up advertising on my blog - it's another way to make money. I am aggressively looking into other means of marketing my blog and getting it out to more readers. I've even added the subscribe button - keep scrolling! It's after the Archives...after the Blogroll, Recent Comments, and Stats - and yup, there it is!

I learned on ABC's Nightline last night that a stay-at-home mom, who's blog Dooce is a huge success, makes a good deal of money from advertisers. I'm slowly dipping into this opportunity. Sidenote - I love this blog. I think it's funny, honest - and not limited to mommies. As a single woman I appreciate and enjoy Dooce blogger Heather Armstrong's candid posts.

After working on these opportunities I tuned in to what's going on in the world. For one, I am happy that Hillary took West Virginia, but I am disappointed in our nation's women, the leading gender in our population, for denying this incredible opportunity. Statistics show that single women support HIllary - it's the married women who are backing Obama. I find that to be really, really weird.

What is making me even more sick right now is the devastation in the Far East. As if Myanmar's cyclone wasn't bad enough, followed by a ridiculous government that would rather see its people suffer than allow global aid - because, God forbid that would show their people how kind, generous and effective the rest of the world is. The leadership there wants to keep its people ignorant of that kind of aid.

And then there's China. I don't even know what to say about that earthquake. The 7.9 scale is unimaginable! I have decided to emulate the Tibetan Buddhists and pray for peace and the end of suffering. It is my hope that lives will continue to be saved, that medical care, food and water will be available, that shelter will be available and that rebuilding will soon take place. I will meditate on this and pray. I hope the global response for aid will reach the Chinese people as soon as possible.

In February, with the coming of the Chinese New Year, the year of the rat, I remember reading an article about the possibility for natural disasters. I remember thinking about Katrina, the Tsunami in the East (Dec. 04), and I just couldn't imagine any more distruction. But, the prediction for disaster was beyond ominous:

The start of the new lunar year, the most important national holiday for China’s 1.3 billion people, followed three weeks of ice and snow storms that crippled transport and power supplies in many cities.

But even though power has been restored to 162 or the 170 worst-hit counties, millions are still without electricity or heating and the China Meteorological Administration warned that the warmer temperatures and melting snow could bring natural disasters, including landslides, in their wake.

And fortune-tellers say that caution will be the watchword for the Year of the Rat, for which they predict financial and political rumblings, tsunamis and epidemics. The reason, they say, is that water and earth – two of the five elements Chinese mystics believe are at the root of all things – are in conflict in 2008.

Text from: 'China Welcomes Year of the Rat' by Philippe Naughton, TimesOnline, Feb. 7, 2008.

There are only so many back issues of Marie Claire and downloaded TV shows on my iPod that I can wat

There are only so many back issues of Marie Claire and downloaded TV shows on my iPod that I can watch before going a little batty at the airport, which is basically where my mental state was at around 6:40 last Friday night. The weather in New York was horrible, nearly every flight leaving JFK was delayed, and I was out of things to do. So I began to wander, past the pizza stand, past the bookstore, and right inside one of my past airport boredom buster tips: the Oasis Day Spa in Terminal 6 (the JetBlue terminal) at JFK.

It wasn't quite as easy as I'd written about and imagined; in fact, although the salon was nearly empty I still had to make an "appointment" to get a manicure later on in the night. I say appointment with quotes, because really all it was was the front desk guy telling me to come back in a half-hour and me giving him my first name.

But away I went, and one smoothie later I was back at the salon, choosing the deep blue nail polish that would eventually end up on my tips. Aside from what shape I wanted my nails, one of the first questions the manicurist asked was what time my flight left, a first for me in a nail salon. When I said it'd leave in an hour I thought she'd start hustling, but that's not how it works at Oasis. For good (or in my case, almost bad) the staff take their time and leave you to keep an eye on the clock (which is featured prominently on a main wall in the salon).

As far as basic manicures go, I've had better and I've had worse. And although $26 for a basic mani is super-steep in my book, it seems fair when you compare it to the inflated prices of everything else in the airport. The 45 minutes my appointment took really were the quickest 45 minutes I've ever spent in an airport terminal, and certainly not the most expensive. (One trip to the bookstore for some candy and magazines will usually cost me more than that.)

On the downside, I literally almost missed my flight. While this isn't necessarily Oasis' fault (they do have a giant clock, after all), it seems like a manicurist working in an airport salon would keep better track of time. I've read similar reviews online, and keeping track of time would become an even more major issue if I'd been getting a massage or anything else that required me to close my eyes.

So will I be getting manis at the airport on every trip now? Probably not. But will I think about forking over $26 to help time fly on a never ending layover in the future? You can bet your ragged nails I will.
