Hey guys! Ready for another Broadcasted! review that will rock your movie world? So, today we have Training Day directed by Antoine Fuqua (Shooter, King Arthur). I chose this movie after John Tucker Must Die because after watching an anverage teen movie, I wanted to get back to a more serious-minded and oscar-winning (Denzel Washington for Best Leading Actor) movie. I know this is probably a classic for most of you people but still it REALLY deserves a review.

Training Day is the story of a cop (Ethan Hawke) wanting to become a narcotics officer. So he is trained by crooked cop (with a really cool car) Alonzo (Denzel Washington). During this training day, he learns a lot about the real life in the streets of L.A. and sheds light on the shadowy moves of Alonzo. He will learn too much...

Training Day has truly good cast, besides an amazing performance by Denzel Washington with his super cool: "You wanna go home or you wanna go to Jail?". He really did deserve the Oscar for this role. Ethan Hawke is pretty good in it too and, for the Hip-Hop fans, there surely is an all-star cast with superstar rappers Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg and singer Macy Gray. Moreover, even if you begin to know what is going to happen pretty early in the movie, the whole scenario is pretty well written. Antoine Fuqua also managed to give the viewer beautiful images of L.A. and the filming is great, you can feel the tension between the characters and every emotion is visible (thanks to great acting too). Well, the movie is well packed up and if you're looking for a good cop/action movie, I recommend you watch it, you won't get tired of it.

Why did I watch this movie? Mainly because Denzel Washington got an Oscar out of it so I wanted to see if he deserved it. You won't be disappointed if you watch this movie even if you're not a true Ethan Hawke fan (which I'm not), for those who hate Denzel Washington, I'm sorry but you won't like it because the movie is mostly about him and this is the only thing I found annoying: the side characters are not really important to the movie.

Ok, let's wrap it up and this "broadcasted!" movie gets a more than decent 8.9/10.

Sammen med «tvillingbroren» Stackolee er Dolemite en av de viktigste moderne sagnfigurene i det svarte USA, og to ruvende forbilder innen dagens gangsta-rap. Når Snoop Dogg spiller på Sentrum Scene onsdag 3. september drar han kanskje klassikeren «Nuthin’ But A ’G’ Thang», med tekstlinja «clockin’ a grip like my name is Dolemite».

Etter at Snoop Dogg nær spolerte hele karrieren på Master Ps No Limit-plateselskap, vendte han tilbake i fin form med Tha Last Meal i 2000. Nå gjør han det vanskelig for seg selv igjen ved å lansere et plateselskap like fantasiløst som No Limit.

En skulle jo tro at et eget selskap vil friste til både eksperimentering og nyskapning, men skal vi dømme etter denne samleren er Snoop mest opptatt av forsøk på å gjenopplive Death Row-suksessen fra 1990-tallet. For med unntak av litt New York-flørting i form av bidrag fra produsenter som Hi-Tek, DJ Premier og Alchemist er dette svært fantasiløse 80 minutter.

Gangstafans finner nok glede i gjenhør med gamle helter som Snoop, Kokane (nå under navnet Mr. Kane), RBX, Daz, Nate Dogg og Rage, som bidrar med enkelte godbiter. Men ingen av Snoops nye navn – gospeldivaen LaToiya Williams eller rapperne Soopafly og E-White – vekker særlig interesse. Dr. Dre skuffet også med den første samleplata fra hans eget Aftermath-plateselskap, men så ga han oss Eminem. Denne plata viser bare at Snoop Dogg trenger en rapper av samme kaliber.

Den Snoop, den Snoop. Med R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece viste han endelig hvor god han kan være – når han gidder. Nå har han tilbake på autopilot, med en samleplate like slapp, kjedelig og uviktig som 2002s Welcome To The House. Bunnpunktene er crooneren James (med linjer som ”I know you remember me / I’m the guy who bought you Crystal and Hennessy”) og den kvinnelige talentløsrapperen Tiffany Foxx.

Snoop dukker opp på hele ni spor, men musikken hever seg sjelden over samlebånds-gangsta og skamløse p-funk-tyverier. Men alt er ikke bare sorgen. Death Row-fans kan glede seg over en gjenforening av Snoop, Daz og Kurupt (Dogg Pound-album kommer senere i år) og gjestespill fra gamle helter som RBX og Lady of Rage.

Men det morsomste er at vår egen Mira Craig stjeler showet. Hun synger litt på åpningssporet, men rosinen i pølsen er sololåten ”Dinner In Bed” – der Mira utfolder seg over asiatiske toner og viser at hun er mer talentfull og fantasirik enn de fleste andre på dagens amerikanske r&b-scene.

Situasjonen minner om kampen om musikktronen på Jamaica, der dancehallstjernene spyr ut singler i et halsbrekkende tempo - mens albumene er overfylte godteposer spekket med hits og fyllstoff.

Snoop Dogg har i de siste årene stått i fare for å ende som Cowboy-Laila, et populærkulturelt ikon der musikken havner i bakgrunnen. Snoop lager tv-show, pornofilmer, driver eget plateselskap og er moteløve og skuespiller, samtidig som vi stadig loves et nytt album på linje med debuten Doggystyle (1993). Over 80 minutter melder kjedsomheten seg i blant, men ikke i større grad enn at vi nok en gang utroper dette til Snoops nestbeste.

Etter Snoop
Snoop ligger et hestehode foran resten av feltet, der skillet går mellom de som jakter på kommersiell suksess og de som ønsker å bli omfavnet av gatene igjen. Fabolous hører til sistnevnte, med den nøkterne singlen «Breathe» som høydepunkt på Real Talk - som også har store doser klubblåter og etterapinger av 50 Cent.

Ja Rule ønsker også å distansere seg fra sine tidligere popslagere, og fortsetter tilbaketrekkingen til sine gangstarøtter på R.U.L.E.. Det betyr både knallåter som «New York», samt mye rask. Chingy følger opp suksessen med «Right Thurr» og «Jackpot», men Powerballin' føles som en reprise. Mange
hits, men ikke så mye mer.

Trick Daddy er mer interessant, der han fortsetter sin vei fra regionrapper til nasjonal stjerne. Han mestrer balansen mellom gangsta-rap, r&b og pop, og rapper «I wanna sell records like the Bee Gees
sold». Det gjør Snoop også, men han sampler Bee Gees. Hiphop i 2004 er big business , der den som har mest penger til samplinger, produsenter og gjestestjerner gjerne får størst avkastning.

Disse fem platene varer i til sammen 357 minutter, og det er ikke mangel på godlåter. Nye ideer, derimot, er det færre av - og albumene er for lange, like og fantasiløse. Setter du sammen de beste låtene får du én dynamitt-CD, men er du på jakt etter et personlig album som skiller seg ut i mengden bør du heller kjøpe The College Dropout av Kanye West.

Snoop (Doggy) Dogg, f. Cordozar Broadus, 20. okt. 1972, Long Beach, California, USA.

Cordozar ”Calvin” Broadus dukket opp nærmest fra intet som Dr. Dres protesjé på hans The Chronic i 1992, og året etter var Snoop Doggy Dogg tidenes mest etterlengtede hiphopdebutant. Solodebuten Doggystyle ble det første debutalbumet som gikk rett inn på førsteplass på Billboard-listen, men på grunn av problemer med både loven og plateselskap fikk han problemer med å følge opp suksessen. Men Snoop Dogg har vist seg som en moderne comebackkonge, og har på 2000-tallet bevist at han fortsatt hører hjemme i hiphopeliten.

Snoop fikk kallenavnet sitt av moren sin, oppkalt etter Snoopy i Knøttene på grunn av sitt hundeaktige ansikt og hengslete kropp, og som tenåring tilbrakte han mye tid i fengsel på grunn av doplanging. Hans problemer med loven skulle henge over karrieren hans i lang tid. Samtidig har Snoop vist seg fram som en mester i å iscenesette sin egen person, og utover 1990-tallet begynte karakteren Snoop Dogg å leve sitt eget liv ganske uavhengig av privatlivet hans. Etter flere skuffende plater, både fra kritiker- og salgshold, så det lenge ut som Snoop-figuren skulle ende nærmest som en parodi som ble hyppig brukt på tv og film, men til slutt vendte den finslepne musikeren Snoop Dogg også tilbake.

Snoop brukte musikk for å slippe unna sin kriminelle løpebane, og begynte å spille inn låter sammen med Long Beach-kompisene Warren ”Warren G” Griffin III og Nathaniel ”Nate Dogg” Hale i gruppa 213. Denne Warren var også halvbroren til Dr. Dre i N.W.A., og etter at Dre hadde hørt en kassett med Snoop innledet de to et samarbeid. Snoop debuterte på Dr. Dre-låta ”Deep Cover” i 1992, hentet fra filmen med samme navn, og da Dr. Dre slapp sitt debutalbum The Chronic senere samme år hentet han inn et helt fotballag med gjesterappere. Snoop Doggy Dogg dominerte albumet og overraskende hitsingler som ”Nuthin’ But a ’G’ Thang” (nr. 2 i USA), ”Let Me Ride” og ”Fuck Wit Dre Day (And Everybody’s Celebratin’)” (nummer 8 i USA).

The Chronic representerte et paradigmeskifte i amerikansk hiphop, og innledet suksessen til den seige og melodiske gangstarappen samtiden døpte g-funk. Dr. Dre og hans Death Row Records handlet raskt, og allerede i 1993 hadde han produsert hele soloalbumet til Snoop Doggy Dogg, og Doggystyle ble en eventyrlig suksess i USA.  Singlene ”Who Am I? (What’s My Name?)” og ”Gin and Juice” ble begge Topp 10-hits, men samtidig begynte pressen å interessere seg i Snoops kriminelle sider.

Mens han spilte inn Doggystyle ble Snoop nemlig arrestert i forbindelse med driveby-drapet på Philip Woldermarian. Aktor hevdet Snoop hadde kjørt bilen, mens drapet ble utført av livvakten McKinley Lee, men Snoop hevdet det var selvforsvar. Rettssaken i kombinasjon med tekster som ble beskyldt for å være voldelige og sexistiske skapte problemer for Snoop, og i Storbritannia skapte tabloidavisa Daily Star Sex Pistols-lignende tilstander da de klistret et bilde av rapperen over hele forsida med overskriften ”Kick This Evil Bastard Out!”. Snoop lot ikke sjansen til litt kontroverser gå fra seg, og brukte tiden fram til rettssaken med å spille inn filmen Murder Was the Case, basert på en låt fra Doggystyle og akkompagnert av et splitter nytt soundtrack med Death Row-artister. På dette tidspunktet hadde Doggystyle solgt til firedobbel platina, og Snoop hadde også bidratt sterkt på albumet Dogg Food (1995) fra vennene i Tha Dogg Pound.

Snoop ble frikjent på alle punkter i februar 1996, men rettssaken hadde stukket kjepper i hjulene for karrieren hans. Dr. Dre forlot Death Row Records, plateselskapets sjef Marion ”Suge” Knight ble dømt til fengsel og vennen 2Pac ble drept, og kanskje derfor ble 1996s oppfølgeralbum Tha Doggfather en blandet og litt halvhjertet opplevelse, selv om den debuterte på førsteplass på Billboard-listen og solgte to millioner.

Dette ble etterfulgt av en søkende periode for Snoop. Han skiftet navn til Snoop Dogg, forlot Death Row til fordel for New Orleans-baserte Master P og hans No Limit Records, og ga ut flere album i samarbeid med No Limit-rappere og husprodusentene Beats By The Pound. Snoop passet ikke så bra inn i samlebåndsfilosofien til No Limit, og selv om album som Da Game Is To Be Sold Not To Be Told (1998) og No Limit Top Dogg (1999) inneholdt flere sterke låter og solgte bra (de klatret til henholdsvis første- og andreplass på Billboard-listen), innebar de også en dalende popularitet og skrikende mangel på hitsingler for superstjernen. Situasjonen  ble ikke bedre av at Suge Knight melket sin gamle artist med lettvinte utgivelser som Dead Man Walkin’ (2000) og Greatest Hits (2001).

På 2000-tallet var ikke Snoop den superstjernen han en gang var, og ingen av hans album har siden nådd toppen av Billboard-listen. Men med Tha Last Meal (2001), hans siste plate for No Limit, innledet han et comeback som også innebar økt synlighet i form av tv-programmer og roller i filmer som Training Day (2001), Bones (2001), The Wash (2001) og Starsky & Hutch (2004). På Tha Last Meal var ikke bare hundefiguren fra Doggystyle tilbake på omslaget, det samme var gamle helter som Dr. Dre og Kokane og nye stjerneprodusenter som Timbaland og Scott Storch. Dette var første tegn til en revitalisert Snoop, en tendens som fortsatte med etableringen av hans eget Doggy Style Records og albumene Paid Tha Cost To Be Da Bo$$ (2002) og R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece (2004). I 2003 rakk Snoop også å gjenforenes med Warren G og Nate Dogg i 213, noe som endte i albumet The Hard Way (2004).

Men det var R&G som ble Snoops store comeback, og hans mest gjennomførte plate siden Doggystyle, båret fram av hitsingler som ”Drop It Like It’s Hot” med Pharrell Williams (nr. 1 i USA, nr. 9 i Norge), ”Beautiful” (nr. 6 i USA) og ”Signs” med Justin Timberlake og Charlie Wilson (nr. 2 i UK, nr. 12 i Norge). På den påfølgende verdensturneen sto Snoop fram som et populærkulturelt ikon, en mann som ikke bare hadde en rekke hitsingler å vise til, men som også nærmest har skapt sitt eget språk og dratt hallikstilen i hiphop over og langt forbi parodien. Han fikk endelig et lite gjennombrudd i Norge, og i 2005 R&G-albumet klatret til 12. plass på VG-lista, hans første albumplassering i Norge. Han takket for tilliten ved å introdusere norske Mira Craig for sine fans på samleplata Welcome to da Chuuch: Da Album (2005).

S.L.A.T.E. was just dead, I really feel people are done with the whole hip cool guy bullshit this come from these lines. But the Words on every buyers mouths was "Christian Audigier - Ed Hardy - When I move you move Trade show"  I do have to say my ears were open to this whole hype. To put out there: the show was amazing buyers were writing paper, people were having a great time, over it all they had what Magic was missing - The Buyers with money!!! (Oh yea and every Star was there!!)  This show made this trip to Vegas worth it all. I will always love streetwear but I also think you kids need to step it up. Cette interrogation émane d’une discussion ayant eu lieu un jeudi midi avec les collègues du Café Graffiti. Raymond, en forme comme à son habitude, lance l’air taquin cette affirmation calomnieuse : « les français sont sexistes ». En infériorité numérique, je défendis ma patrie avec discrétion, histoire de ne pas m’attirer les foudres de toute l’équipe du café. Mais cet affront ne peut rester impuni, la toile et la magie du blog effacent les frontières et les nationalités, ici nous sommes tous des Internautes abrités par Internet.

Je me suis donc mis à réfléchir sur ce point : les français sont ils sexistes? Par extension suis-je sexiste? Pour étayer ma réflexion, j’observe les différences majeures entre les rapports femmes-hommes (notez la galanterie) des deux cotés de l’atlantique.

Une de ces différences saute aux yeux (c’est le cas de le dire vous verrez) de tout Français en visite ici à Montréal : la longueur des jupes et shorts. Certaines femmes Québécoises ne semblent pas hésiter se vêtir de façon très courte et laissant apparaître ainsi leurs cuisses. Je dois avouer qu’avant mon arrivée j’imaginai que ce type de tenues émanait des délires des rappeurs américains tels que Snoop Dogg. Et non, il est coutume pour les femmes d’ici de sortir de la sorte.

Je ne vous cache pas que de telles tenues seraient difficiles à assumer en France. La demoiselle aux jambes apparentes se verrait importunée à chaque coin de rue, une telle tenue réinstaurant dans l’esprit du français le droit de cruisage. Mesdames, prévoyez des pantacourts pour votre prochain voyage à Paris. Sexisme me direz vous. Pourquoi une femme ne pourrait pas assumer sa féminité sans éveiller les bas instincts des hommes? Pourquoi ne pas s’habiller comme bon nous semble, sans prêter attention aux idées mal placées? Votre raisonnement se tient.

Simplement, à mes yeux et à ceux de beaucoup de mes compatriotes (Cocorico!!), de telles tenues incitent à griller des étapes. On peut comparer le rapport de séduction à un escalier qu’il faut arpenter pas à pas. Après le premier café, passons au premier dîner, après le premier baiser, observons les jambes… et lorsque l’on a déjà vu les jambes, on se dit que certaines marches ont déjà été gravies, sans effort…

Le français est de plus très préoccupé par l’égalité des sexes. Si une jupe trop courte nous dérange sur une femme, c’est que nous n’aimerions pas la voir sur un ami, c’est aussi simple que ça.

Voilà pour ma petite explication. J’espère que ma mauvaise foi apparente n’aura choqué personne et que les cyber-foudres ne se déchaîneront pas trop sur moi.

The implication - that I was to emulate the sexualized bitch (literally!) depicted on the cover, reduced to a pair of shapely haunches for the pleasure of the males in my surrounding area - made me shake with disgust. To this day, I have never listened to Doggystyle in full, nor have I allowed a copy of the CD to stay in my line of sight.

Sometimes I wonder how different I would be today if my parents hadn't shielded me so from pop culture images. (Really, I probably hadn't ever seen that Doggystyle cover until a couple of years ago.)

Have you’ve listened to the newest hit rap or hip-hop songs? Examples of these popular artists include: T-pain, Akon, and etc. These are, I believe the main flagship of the new use of voice rendering technology, called the vocoder or also the auto-tuner. Other artists such as: Kanye West, Chris Brown, lil Wayne, and Snoop Dogg have followed suit. I feel disappointed in some of them, especially Kanye because of his unique style that he tries to portray in his music. All of the artists just mentioned are having their voices synthesized, and as a result, the vocoder produces a sound that is similar to a robot. This is ruining how music was traditionally performed.

It’s not that I don’t respect these artists, I like them, but I feel that they’re all starting to sound the same to me. Remember those songs back in the early to late 90’s? Cher, daft punk and some other techno artists were the first to use this kind of technology. So this isn’t a relatively new kind of technology, it is just used more in recent years. After hearing T-pain’s first album for the first time, it immediately reminded me of those techno-like songs in the 90’s. There has been a more and more use of technology and usage of drums, kits, synths, anything that can be produced by a computer is being used more and more.

Many people listening to these genres have argued that “hip-hop is dead”. I think that is true to a certain point. The old Hip-Hop has died, and a new one has emerged. While taking an English class this summer, we studied about technology as a medium, meaning, how it affects our society. This is one of the affects of technology that are taking place. Computers killed the way we used to do things and has created a new way. Thus, I think the use of the human voice in this way will eventually get old because of how their effects create a similar effect on each artist’s voice.

When I see music or anything that is has relevance to technology, I see it being ‘infected’ (for lack of better words) and slowly being turned into efficient, bland tasting, music.
