Over the years I have accumulated a collection of vintage plastic belt buckles. I've recently started to think about ways to incorporate them into my knit designs. I started this skirt. The yarn is a green rayon chenille and I was never really crazy about the color. I picked it up at a thrift store so it's low risk to fiddle with. I've found that chenille--especially cotton--is very difficult to rip out and you run the risk of pulling out some of the little fibers that give chenille its wonderful loft.

Aside from skirts, Rowan Beach Cool, features a very stylish lacy crochet poncho with a buckle embellishment. I don't typically crochet (except for the occasional edging), but one can envision an open knitted stitch to substitute.

For the weekly appointement with "Star's Look" I propose you a look worn by an actress from Hollywood less known to Europe that most of all plays secondary roles, like in Cirty Dancing 2, that has shown more then once a great style in dressing in every kind of occasion, en we couldn't not talk about it!

ABIDJAN (Reuters) - Cocoa runs in the family of Ivorian fashion designer Felicite Mai. It was her father, a tailor-turned-cocoa planter, who gave her her first sewing machine, a model dating back to 1952.

And for the last five years, this sewing-school graduate has been turning out eye-catching outfits made from the jute sacks used to ship Ivory Coast’s top export - cocoa.

From her humble shop in the popular Treichville suburb of the economic capital Abidjan, Mai designs, cuts and fits clothes for men and women that use the natural beige colors and coarse fiber of cocoa and coffee sacks.

Normally stuffed to bursting with the cocoa beans that make Ivory Coast the world’s No. 1 grower of the source of chocolate, Mai’s creations are worn by a growing clientele of celebrities, artists and musicians, some even from abroad.

“Ivory Coast’s economy is based on agriculture, especially cocoa and coffee. So I decided to promote these crops by creating these fashion designs,” said Mai, whose real name is Maimouna Camara Gomet.

“For me, it’s a way of drawing the whole world’s attention to cocoa and coffee,” she said.

Proud to wear her own designs, she sports a beige cut-off top with a frayed fringe, made from a jute sack, over blue jeans, a tape measure draped around her neck.

Her creations — for both men and women — include skirts, tops, trousers, shirts, waistcoats as well as caps, bags and accessories, mostly in the natural beige of the washed jute sackcloth, but sometimes also dyed darker brown or blue.

“PRODUCT OF IVORY COAST”

Her models say the “sack clothes” look good with traditional jewelry and ornaments, such as the cowrie shells that were the common currency of the West African coast during past centuries of the Atlantic slave trade.

Mai buys the sacks — some stamped with the words “Product of Ivory Coast, Cocoa” — from warehouses at Abidjan’s bustling port. The jute material is washed and cut at her Treichville workshop, where a wax mannequin is used to help with fittings.

“I had this idea from when I was still at sewing school in 1987. Then I opened my own workshop in 1996 and I first launched these kind of designs in 2003 during a fashion contest at Divo (in the south of Ivory Coast)” said Mai, who has several assistants at her shop.

“My father was a tailor and he made jackets for the colonial settlers,” she said, referring to Ivory Coast’s former French colonial masters.

“Then he became a coffee and cocoa planter,” she added.

Mai hopes that her sack fashion designs can serve as an attractive, enduring advertisement for her country’s best known products — cocoa and coffee.

“That was the livelihood of our parents,” she said.

I'm usually hesitant to buy entire runway looks, but this just screams 'me', so why not? I'm a little shy about buying high waisted pieces, but the fabric holds the A-line shape so well that it looks absolutely adorable and quite flattering.

Here is my new summer skirt for little girls. This one was made especially for my girl. But I have enough fabric left for one other little girl (see my vintage katie jean if you're interested).This is vintage fabric that I bought from Emma and Sharon. And it's trimmed with little aqua pom-pom's. Really cute huh? I think so! The black tank has a little flower sewn onto it, looking like a corsage. Perfect for running errands with mama!

This is the skirt that I will also be making with some cute vintage terry cloth fabric, also known as towels. I went thrifting with my friend Diane and got some really cute ones to cut up. Some towels are pink, some towels are yellow, and one has fish all over it and is so totally wonderful that I'm not sure if I can bring myself to put scissors to it!

The fish towel gave my heart a leap when I saw it. It was a little thrill because I have one at home already like it. It's from the 50's and I think it was my grandma's (the one I already have). What are the chances? I mean a towel, really?

The Sugar Babes have kept their heads down recently as the media spotlight hasn't so much been on them but they looked gorgeous in these matching, black and white, similar high waisted skirt/ short and shirt combos.

Another celeb also rocking the high waist included Kelly Rowland who performed smoking renditions of old school Destiny's Child songs aswell as some new tracks in this orange and black outfit.

We were at a birthday party, and there was an indoor playground made up of mostly jumping castle-type things.  The girls are pretty scared of that type of toy, and the room was pretty loud.  Willow walked in to the party room and said "Mommy, I am having NO fun."

Hailie will still only wear skirts, and all of her clothing must at least have some Hot Pink in it.  The other day she was wearing a skirt and a polo shirt, and she had to tuck the shirt into her skirt.  I asked her why she did that, and she said it was because you couldn't see her skirt.

The other day Hailie came up to me and said, "Mommy I need a bath." and then in the most exasperated tone, said  "Just look at my hair!"

The girls are constantly using bathroom words, and we are constantly reminding them not to use those words, and not to call each other names.  They have been coming up with creative names that they can you instead, like Bonky Head, and Mato (Tomato) Head.  One day Willow came up with Bum Slice.  She had a big, long explaination of what a Bum Slice was... and none of it has anything to do with Bums, or slices. You have to admit; it's a catchy term.

Hailie gets in Willows face, and then pokes her face, and sticks her finder up his nose

We were at Auntie Christine and Uncle Randy's for a BBQ a few weekends ago.  Willow dropped her napkin and said "Oh craaaaaaaap"  Ooops!

In the backseat of the car the other day, Willow says "Hailie hit me."  I said "No she didn't", and Willow replied,  "Well she is going to hit me."

I was reading Willow a story about a bear named Willow. She loves to point to her name whenever she sees it.  At one point she points to the word 'Who' and the conversation goes like this:

Willow: What does that say?

Mommy: Who.

Willow:I don't know. What does it say?

Mommy: Who.

Willow: I dont know.  What does it say?

Mommy: It says who.

WIllow: I dont know.  Mommy what does it say?

Mommy: It says the word who.

Willow: I don'tknow.  What does it say?

Mommy: That's ok, nevermind.

I told you that I would have show you a couple of ideas to combine my new skirt...sooner than this I couldn't do it!!
I believed that vichy fabrique would have been harder to combine especially with colors but in the end I wasn't right and in my head I still have a coulpe of ideas turning around to put into practice...and then I discovered that wearing high waisted things isn't so bad for me as I thought...even if this isn't the perfect skirt for me to be worn like that...but there will be more soon!

While searching through my magazines, through various websites and blogs for that special new trend, it is disconcerting to repeatedly come across one of three things:

1. a mod mess
2. fifties forgery or, yet another,
3. bubble skirt

Creativity has been stifled with stiff dollar bills. Thanks to the brilliant minds behind H&M and Wal-Mart, there is always a quick buck to be made, just ask Madonna, Roberto Cavalli or Karl Lagerfeld, all of whom slapped their name on a tank top to deem it ‘designer’ and, thus, justifying the forty dollar price tag.

As a fashion lover, myself, I have no qualms about paying a slightly-higher-than-imaginable price for a designer treasure (although I assure you, it happens less than you think) but I also believe designer treasure is a lot different than a poorly made over-priced, I-slapped-a-celebrity’s-name-on-this-so-buy-it dress.

Good news - I struck gold and this season “It” designers have traveled back in time, reached down into the fire-y depths of their imaginative core and pulled out something pre-historic, and, not to mention, something I love.

Aside from Balenciaga’s Nicolas Ghesquière, Haider Ackermann and Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz, it is hard to find a collection that does not resemble a dumbed-down version of the latest Dolce & Gabbana Ad. However, this time around, Issey Miyake, Gaetano Navarra, Emma Cook and Sharon Wauchob prove they can run with the best. Feathers, animal prints and shaggy wool are perfectly paired with the river-bed color palette. This fall season it’s all about earth tones and sunset hues and without a bell sleeve or shoulder pad in sight, this trend has no limits. However, it is only a matter of time before these one of a kind look s are whittled down to a Halloween-esque Betty Rubble knock -off. Just try and get them while they’re actually hot.

Did ever happen to you to go surfing on e-bay where you see a vintage dress of a big fashion designer that costs a few and seems to be pretty and even of your size and then when you decide to buy it and you receive it in reality it doesn't feet you so well as you immagined and instead of seeming a perfect vintage girl you seem like a child wearing her mum's too big dress?
That's what happened to me with thic Kenzo dress made by vichy fabrique bought on e-bay a couple of months ago for something as 15 euros and never wore because too big:

I even made some try to wear it but the results weren't enough satisfating

Carolynn is looking great in her monochromatic Club Monaco ensemble. Her chain t-shirt is totally rad and that skirt is super cute (yes it has pockets!!!).
