This is the first dress I made custom for my girls. I'm offering the pattern for free if you'd like to give it a spin! It's a fairly simple A Line dress, with or without sleeves. You can use ribbing on the collar and armholes or you can serge, and fold under.

You can use these patterns as you wish, I think they are pretty self explanatory. If not, Here's the sew along in .pdf form, and in html.

Use a knit fabric, and these fit about 3T-5.

I'm getting ready to start teaching again next week. I'm only scheduled for a 20% gig which means I teach one day a week. However there is a lot of start up time and things to get done so I can be cleared for duty by next week. I'm trying to get a new podcast out as well, hopefully this week.

I'm doing a lot of denial sewing, I've made like 8 of these dresses, they are super duper easy. I used some ready to wear concepts that I loved to draft these myself. You can make as many as you want, and they are wonderful to embellish! Have fun and I'll 'see' you soon.

Hey, if you're reading this why don't you give me a call on my voice mail only line at 1-775-593-5136 and let me know what you're working on and what you'd like to hear more of on the podcast!

Here are my samples of what I've done with this pattern. Click for larger views:

As jammies -- I found if I cut it and don't do much topstitching, they turned out as really easy nigthgowns! Using fabric with 'tossed' pictures also are good for night time wear.

As tops -- I just cut them where I wanted them to fall. One turned into sort of a swing top, the other a more a line top. By cutting the front bodice below the chest, it looks more RTW (ready to wear) in my opinion. This first one I just serged the openings and straight stitched them down. I you had a coverstitcher these would be even faster LOL:

You can do so many things with a pattern. This time I'm highlighting the 'Jayme Bodice Pattern' that was created by Jayme DeHart, of Dehart Designs. She shared this with the Sewing Mama board and I'm uber thankful.

If you have finished Jayme bodice items, you can post a link here in the show notes. Thank you so much!

This is a free pattern she offers the sewing world, you can download it here:

These are dresses made by Jayme, followed by other mamas who took up the idea!

From Amanda, her daughter's favorite tank tops are the jayme bodice just lengthened:

From Shannon Undershirt/boxers sets and an A-line summer dress:

From Cheryl These are wovens! she puts elastic inside the straps at top, for an easy fit, that doesn't have the straps falling down on her "skinny minnie". She also just did this one for St Pattys day, with a tie shoulder strap.

From Heather

From Mich

Bobbi Jo has done a lot with one pattern as well:

I use snap closure on the top instead of ties and I have also always used wovens for these:

This one is made into a lined bodice with regular straps instead of bias and with button closure:

Here is a shortened version as a shirt and capri's:

As an a-line summer dress

Some things I've made for my girls:

I just got a new microphone, so hopefully at least that will work LOL.

Today's show featured music from the Podsafe Network:

"Neighbor" by The Lascivious Biddies

"What Child is This" by Allison Crowe

The story, Gift of the Magi is available from Librivox and read by Betsie Bush

In news today, I talked about Donation Dolls program, the amazing women of Radio Almahaba, creating the next designing generation with Wee Scotty, and spring fashion colors.

For kids, I mentioned you might check out Kiddie Records. Kiddie Records Weekly is a three year project celebrating the golden age of children's records. Each recording has been carefully transferred from the original 78s and encoded to MP3 format for you to download and enjoy. You'll find a new addition every week, all year long with a special Christmas record available now.

You can take a look at the Spring 2007 Fashion Color Palette at Pantone

You can sew up a free holiday outfit for your child's American Girl doll with this pattern from You Can Make This.

I shared my new Cloth Diapering Sewing site, where you can find and add many free cloth diaper patterns and even sell what you make! I find this to be my part of the Creative Culture movement.

The Creative Mom Podcast and the Crafty Chica podcast are great resources you'll want to check out!

On a sad note, I'd like to send my condolences out to the Kim and Fleming families. You can donate here and see James' memorial here. I'm amazed that his employees and employers have been so supportive and kind. That must be an incredible place to work.

Thank you for listening and keep on sewin' sister!

Today I have changed the format a bit, added in some music and lengthened segments.

The music all comes from the Podsafe Music Network, and today I featured some really great artists. I hope you give their songs a listen and support Podsafe music! Please take a listen:

Farm Boy Spaghetti Cake

I also chatted about holiday sewing, and I found some resources for fun gifts to sew here here and here. Take a look at Wikipedia and add some to the Sewing area! I talk about my admiration for Brenda Dayne of Cast On podcast. Take a listen -- even if you don't knit I think you'll enjoy her podcast. There are some great fabric card tutorials here. I made bacon and eggs out of wool felt for my girl's Christmas gifts:

I didn't podcast about it, but my oldest daughter made this fun top herself! We traced a ready to wear top that she knew fit her well:

Thank you for all of your kind words, emails and support! It is greatly appreciated. I'm still learning the audio side of things, thanks for hanging in with me.
