1. "Rumor has is that press releases are the next big thing in the SEO business." This isn't rumor, this is cold hard fact. Using a search engine optimized press release can offer a substantial increase of traffic to your website, thanks to embedded keywords linking to strategic pages on your website. This has been happening for at least a couple of years now, with excellent results for companies using them - hardly the 'rumor of the next big thing" as mentioned in the article.

2. "Unless you are writing a press release about Microsoft, Adobe, Sony or one of the other mega-companies, or at least about a company that is relatively well-known, forget about it." If this isn't one of the most ridiculous statements I've ever read, I'm not sure what is. I've written for small clients who have been featured on national TV and radio; I know of colleagues in the PR industry that have provided their own clients the same publicity. It doesn't matter what size the company is - if the press release is newsworthy it will be picked up, end of story.

3. "Yes, the PR companies will tell you that they have vast experience in writing Press Releases that will make yours stand out and get picked up but this is not accurate." Check Google for keywords on companies or products - many of the results will come from a search engine optimized press release having been picked up by the media or news outlets relevant to the story. So that kind of blows this argument straight out the water - and I'm not too impressed with the author's implication that all PR companies are liars, either.

4. "Use that money to buy (although I do not recommend this) links from high-ranked websites and you will pay less and receive more benefit." So, the author is saying that, instead of paying for a press release, webmasters or companies should buy links from link farms yet says he doesn't recommend it? Which one is it to be? I'm not surprised he doesn't recommend it - falsifying a site's popularity in this way is known as blackhat SEO and is one of the surefire ways to have your site blacklisted by Google. So why even suggest it in the first place?

5. "Conclusion: A press release is useful if you wish to contact the press and maybe get some free publicity, but it is of no use if you wish to use it as a tool in order to advance your website in the search engines." Apart from offering a conflicting view of his whole article - stating that press releases in general don't get picked up by the press and are very costly - the author's closing statement is wrong in so many ways. A search engine optimized press release is one of the best ways to "advance your website in the search engines" for many reasons.

• Embedded links in the release act as natural backlinks to your website, increasing SEO importance.
• The sites that the press release are picked up on also count as invaluable backlinks - imagine the benefit of having thousands of sites linking to you or your story.
• The interactivity in an optimized press release offers some of the best SEO methods available - embedded links, RSS feeds, video and MP3 and more.

As you can see, the author of the article makes numerous errors that try to paint PR and press releases in a negative light. Then again, when you look at the links that the author provides to his companies, it's not really surprising - a dubious landing page trying to sell an AdSense tool, and a Reprint Article Site both without any form of contact details. Considering that the author has such a strong opinion, it's surprising he or she doesn't want to be contacted to speak about it - therefore, I think his comments about press releases can be taken with a large pinch of salt...

This blog has really changed since the time I started it earlier this year. I am still working on my SEO empire and it is starting to pay off, but the majority of the traffic coming to this blog are people who are interested in learning the mechanics of "how to scrape data off the web".

In addition to this, I get emails every single week from people who need help scraping a particular site or aren't sure how to store data in a database and retrieve it. Some questions even go into more advanced topics like how to automate desktop applications and post the data to the web.

I am a person who believes that it is more important to "teach a person to fish" rather than give solutions on a one-on-one basis. Which got me thinking about starting up a web based school for people who want to become "Expert Web Automationist" (Yes, I did just make that up).

Actually, you can make a lot of money on freelance sites on projects that require data to be scraped off the web. The LEAST amount of money that I have made on one project was $80 when I was first starting out. Doesn't sound like a lot of money for a project, but consider that the computer was doing all the work and it only took me 1/2 hour to setup the spider. That is $160/hr!!! And like I said that was the LEAST amount of money that I got paid to scrape data of the internet.

The school that I am envisioning will be for beginners all the way to those people who already have a lot of knowledge about programming for the web. So there will be something for everyone whether you have never written a line of code before in your life, or you are a seasoned web designer. The intent of the school will be to give you enough knowledge so you will be an "Expert" in the field of web automation, and will feel confident taking on any job for cash.

Like I said, I am only thinking about the concept of this school, but I have already put together a rough "curriculum":

It is my intent to make you BETTER than I am at the art of scraping information off the internet.

If I do create the course, I will limit the amount of people who can enroll to 250 people per year. The reason being is that I don't want to train 1000's of people who will all flock to guru.com and drive the price of scraping down. I also don't want 1000's of copies of my code floating around the internet... after all it took me 100s of hours to create the code, so I only want people who are serious having it.

So what is the price??? It sure the hell won't be $30 or $100. I haven't narrowed it down yet, obviously because I haven't created it yet. But if you take this course, you should be able to recoup the cost with a few freelance web scraping jobs.

I learnt how to use a site named SeoTools , where you can find the "Seo book keyword selector tool". This helps you to know which keywords are in demand. It compares Google, Yahoo and MSN and gives you the total number av all searches on all keywords related to you search.

I was surprised to find out that for example the keyword "crafts" got 1873 hits but the keyword "easter crafts" got 12.423 hits! I used to believe that the more general word is searched for most, but it turns out I was wrong.  The word "crafts" is on place 8 on the list!

So this tool can be av great value if you want to advertise your business. You even get to know trends and the reason why a keyword reached a peek in the past if there was an artikel or press release about that subject.

I write content. Whether it's good content or not, it doesn't matter, what matters is that it's original! I write original content. I then post the content live. I setup sitemaps and analytics and once that's up and running I wait. I play the patient slow, pain staking game of waiting..... It's worth it! Once you know what people are then searching for to find that original content, you now have a great target for building a SEO campaign.

In doing so you may not get the 10000000 hits that "home equity loans" or "insurance" gets on a daily basis but you'll get 30 hits of well targeted well converted keyword traffic!

Ask youself this question, would you rather have 10 000 hits a day of people coming in and then moving off your site, or would you, as a business entrepeneur spending R15 000 a month on a SEO campaign rather have 30 hits, where 15 of them convert to potential business???

The trick is not volume, the trick is getting Google and more importantly people to believe that your site is the site they want their business from.

1. Spotlight your search term on the page. If you want to be found for your keyword(s), make sure that term is on the page you want to rank. The term should be at the top as well as peppered throughout your copy. After all content is the KING
2. Fill in your TAGS The two most important tags are Title and Description b/c that's what is displayed on the search results.
3. Get other sites to LINK to yours. This is one of the most important of the 100 factors Google considers when ranking sites
4. Create a blog and post often. This can help you get links.

Well as a SEO specialist my answer is very obvious…”FIREFOX”:), though all browsers are important for graphic & web designers as they have to check their design, work & functionality on each & every browser. They have to check the compatibility of the site on each.

Anyways..I really like FireFox because it has many great Plugings that makes my work easy & helps in quick SEO analysis.

SEO Common Mistakes-

Bad Title Tag- Your title of the website must be related to your website ,keyword rich and also be in precise.

No use of keyword or keyword phrase- While choosing keywords or keyphrases, only choose those one which are relate to your website and the searchability is also good.

No robots.txt file- Robot.txt tells to search engine spiders where to go and where not to go. By not having in your site it may be possible that the spider will to another site from your websites.

Bad anchor text- While giving anchor in the text must give to keywords so that the searchability for that keyword increases.

Bad site navigation- If your website content is not then the user is going to leave your website and also there must be sitemap. If the sitemap is in xml then it is much easier to add your sitemap in the Google webmaster tool.

SeoQuake - This is a plug in for Internet Explorer and Firefox.  What does it do?  Well, just about everything.  It gives you a handy toolbar that instantly shows you PR, Google/Yahoo/MSN Indexed pages, Alexa Rank, Age of the site, whois information, Keyword Density, Internal/External Links, and all kinds of other stuff.  Very useful.

 
User Agent Switcher - What does this do?  Well, it changes the output in the Header Conversation of your browser, so instead of being Firefox, you can be Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera, whatever!  Why is that useful?  Well, it isn't, but with this handy XML file, you can view sites as though you were Googlebot, MSNbot, or Yahoo Slurp!  Now you can see with Googly Eyes!

Live HTTP Headers - Use it daily, sometimes hourly.  Shows you the complete header conversation as you go to a website.  So you want to see how many 301 redirects you're being channeled through?  This will show you.  Used in conjunction with User Agent Switcher, and you can see through those crazy BlackHat sites that are cloaking everything in their big web of lies!

Web Developer - If you build any sort of website and don't use this plug in, then you get everything that you deserve...

So there you have it.  Also, as most of these are Firefox-only plugins, so if you're not using Firefox, then what's the matter with you, anyway?!?  Its the 21st Century for crying out loud!!!
