When any individual plants a garden in his/her backyard or section of grass, we use the fruits and v

When any individual plants a garden in his/her backyard or section of grass, we use the fruits and vegetables in our meals. If we plant a flower garden, it is mainly to aid in relaxation.

Now, when we use the fruits and vegetables, our food tastes so good. We get that “it quality” that melts on our taste buds and we exclaim, “oh and ahs”. This encourages us to branch out our gardening for more of the tougher things to grow. For example: fruit bearing trees. The sense of accomplishment after doing this, just one time, swarms all over. The “Wow”.

You start to remember how your parents, grandparents, or just older people use to talk about rotating what you grow during the season because the soil just used a lot of nutrients. It needs time to “heal”, just like you or me. But it continues to give you encouragement and you expand your garden, even if in the yard or in your house. Exciting!

That is such a pretty picture. However it is a picture that a number of people do not do anymore. The sense of accomplishment does not come from a simple garden, not like it use too. Accomplishment has been redefined. I ask you, at what cost?

People rely heavily on unregulated produce to filter into their local grocery stores. They expect, because it has been demanded, the produce to be of the best quality. As I have said before, our own government has stated that regulations are antiquated.

A few months ago, right before Wall Street started tanking and bottoming out, there was a report. This report let it be known that there were not enough people employed to do proper inspections on the food we eat. OOOO…WEEE… (Note: Just following up as I said I would. And remember you will have a few months where things level off.)

Now let’s see if I can help you, the consumer on these “fine products”, out there being offered. Review the facts:

The government pays farmers across America not to grow fresh produce.

The government gets the major producers of our meats to say they are not using cloned animals in our food supply. Months after, red warning flags were raised. (Also, it involves the cloning wheat, maze, and corn.)

The government admits the loophole of properly inspecting the food being shipped into America.

Yes, fine products indeed. Continuing with the breakdown … ready?

This past season, I got to watch two huge fields, acres, of corn grow. I had waited patiently for the farmer to harvest his crop. That time has come and gone. The fields of corn were never harvested. All of that corn grown and the nutrients from the ground sucked dry. Damn. It was fresh produce. Actual yellow corn!! When you go to the grocery store again, I’m sure you will see what I mean. Yellow corn isn’t so yellow is it?

Now, we have all heard the MANY reports that our water supply is heavily tainted. Heavily! Hell, there was even an outbreak of E. Coli from use of the regular tap water. (By the way, I think that was a test.) Sure if we boil the water, we change the composition of it, thus killing bacteria, and removing our own pollutants, but what about when we water gardens or rinse off our fruits and vegetables?? Anyone stopping long enough to think about that? A direct attack on a weak or strong immune system could be devasting! Not to mention the millions of test you will have to under go at the hospital, from people who practice medicine through trial and error still.

Our genetic make-up is slowly being changed by just those two factors, and when you throw in the cloned meats and/or dairy products, plus other of our own pollutants, who knows what could happen.

The good news is that we will all find out at the same time. Sure we will. It passes off and along to offspring.

How do we avoid killing or seriously damaging our own gardens then?? Recycle. Years ago, I saw my mom do this.

Take a hose and hook it up to your washing machine drainage. When the water from the machine drains, it will (if you have put the hose in your garden) water your plants. How in the world does this help? The detergent is soap. Think about the ingredients to soap. ~~ Neat uh? Also too, if there is a drought, this is a fabulous way to make sure your plants get sufficient water to grow.

Remember to till the soil. It is just another form of irrigation, give or take. If you have indoor plants from the winter. Remember to take the soil from the bucket and put it in your garden. The soil will mix itself and combine and strengthen. This will also give you an idea over time, what will work good in the soil you have. (Work good as in, what will grow.)

Have a good mind to visit your local fishing shack or a place you can get worms too. Worms are great to have in your garden. Grubs are different and attracted to different plants. If you see one, it’s your call if you pick it up and move it - not kill it.

Once you go out to harvest the fruits of your labor, make sure you say “thanks”. Proven study, talking to plants helps them grow - don’t forget that.

Remember too ~ boil some water before you go outside to pick a fruits or vegetables. Let the water sit and come back to room temperature. The accomplishment behind this: health. You have a clean, wow, exciting, healthy, fresh produce to eat.

Hi all you piano fans,
I am happy to inform you that I will be bringing back the piano lessons again

Hi all you piano fans,

I am happy to inform you that I will be bringing back the piano lessons again for you. I know its been quite some time since I've wrote a new piano lesson, but we've been working so hard on The Piano Encyclopedia to get it up and running for you that we haven't put together any new piano lessons recently.

Well, you will be glad to know its time for me to sit down and bring out all those piano lessons that just need to be learn't by you. First things first, what songs do you want to learn? What bands? Come on give me some ideas. Switch things up.

I know Coldplay was a definite hit and they seemed to get a lot of traffic so I will gladly put more of these, maybe also some older bands. The possibilities are endless. I'd like to get some suggestions so I know I am satisfying all your expectations, since that is exactly what we are here for. You want to learn new songs on the piano and I want to help you learn them, so let me know what you want and I'll get it.

Over the past six months you've seen a few posts in our piano section that have been great and now we feel it is time to begin teaching you guys again. You can never know too many songs especially when you enjoy entertaining and playing the piano while everyone sits around talking.

In the past we've done lessons for the more recent bands, but I am thinking maybe we should include a few classical lessons, and maybe some jazz songs. I have so many ideas brewing away in my head that I think its time I let them loose on the world.

I am more then excited to be back doing the piano lessons and hope to see you guys leaving me many suggestions.

~Chrissi~

Good O'Reilly books to buy (editions one behind are generally ok--and cheaper!):

Unix in a Nutshell

Perl

Java

System administrators do a lot of scripting; Perl is a good catchall kind of script.

What is a sandbox? A working environment where you can play around w/o harming your production environment. Don't necessarily need a new server; can often just segment out part of your server.

The production model:

Development--testing; maybe only you can see it then. Could be on your laptop. Scope out your project, find out customer specs.

Testing/Quality assurance--show to people who know what the end-user are going to want. Let them tell you whether it works well, has the right features, right level of complication. Use automation whenever possible whenever you can to find bugs (WC3 tools to validate XHTML, create programs to run scenarios and test other programs, create macros)

Production--don't touch unless you have to; it affects people when you have to bring it down or when you change things around. When you do have to take something time, contact everyone ahead of time, choose a day with lower use, historically, and notify people when it actually happens and when it's done.

Failover--if your budget allows, double-up your environments to a certain extent. So if the main server goes down, the backup clicks into place; may be slower or not as completely functional but is better than being completely down. Redundancy in network cards, cords, power supply, hardware (can be one revision down). Back up your data regularly--web, file, database servers. Also daily off-site tape storage (daily couriered)

What's next?

Partition your playpen--create a new directory on the webserver; install software only on a few machines, hopefully for people who are excited about testing. Deploy in phases; sometimes ease in by deploying to the people who use the software the least (since they'll be impacted the least if things go badly). OR if you want to hit all the problems right away go with the heaviest users.

Physical separation--can be a totally separate server, or just another directory. Just enough that the work you're doing won't affect the production mode; make sure you don't have to reboot the server to let your testing take affect.

Virtualization--VM Ware is one product. Solaris has containers and zones. Windows has a virtualization product as well. Lets you take a copy of your currently existing production environment and can move it over to another part of your CPU. Partitions your operating system; can then just trash it when you're done testing.

Installation--making your testing environment into your production environment. Make sure you include backout procedures--the ability to go back to the old version. Don't discard old versions of software; keep copies of old installers just in case.

[audio align="center" http://www.djmanuvers.com/digitaldischarge/Panthers-ManuversRemix.mp3]

When viewing a folder with the Thumbnail view, WindowsXP creates a thumbs.db file.
This is a cache of the current pictures in that directory.
If you want to turn this feature off and save a little disk space
Start the Windows Explorer
Go to Tools / Folder Options / View
In the first section under Files and Folders, check Do not cache thumbnails
Now you can search for the thumbs.db file on your computer and remove them. No more should be created.

Stor klem Ingeborg

“And if you look at this section here, we can see further evidence of the as yet unnamed parasite. These deep channels through the left atrium appear to be where it entered the heart . . .”

It’s three in the afternoon. In the conference room a PowerPoint slide shows detailed histology results, CT scans and photographs as various specialists ponder, heavy-browed, on the implications of what they have just been told . . .

Rewind three hours . . . the pathologist steps out of the infections room of the city morgue as the body of a twenty-three year old woman is wheeled back to the freezer, completely sealed two body bags and a contamination container. Ashen-faced, he steps out of his biohazard suit and turns to the decontamination centre set up in the homicide room . . .

Rewind four hours . . . a family waits, bleary-eyed and sleep deprived, behind the glass wall as their daughter, their granddaughter, their sister and their niece, dies quietly alone, quarantined in the contagious diseases ward. Unable to hold her hand as she passes, they hold each other as her vital signs fail and she slips away . . .

Rewind five hours . . . a girl knocks on her flatmate’s bedroom door, her arms clinging tightly around body as she struggles to remain conscious. The pain is so bad she has already vomited on the carpet and despite feeling cold she is sweating all over. She knocks again ad her flatmate comes to the door, half-awake, wanting to know what’s wrong. “Take me to the hospital, please . . .”

Rewind six hours . . . a girl arrives home from a Saturday spent at the beach. With her boyfriend she went swimming and paddled in the rock pools; they snoozed and snuggled on beach towels in the hot sun; they ate ice cream and went home where they made love before walking down the street to get fish and chips. She arrived home and greeted her flatmate, watched television with her for half an hour before going to bed, uncharacteristically exhausted . . .
