Do you participate in Scrapbooking/Card/Altered Art challenges, sketches or Dares on blogs or websites?  I have never done so.  I think I will eventually.  But finding the time to play does not happen often.  I am mostly creating for assignments and publication.  There is a websight called Split Coast Stampers that I lurked on for a few years.  I finally signed on to be a member earlier this year.   They have a set of stamping dares called Dirty Dares 08. ( http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=40 for a bunch of challenges) It is about simply getting those fingers inky and playing.  I think when Maxx starts school this fall (Insert big Momma tears) I will pick a day and let myself play.  Because if I do not set time aside it will never happen.  Thursdays are laundry day.  What should play day be?  Maybe friday? Or should I start the week off with some me time and go for Monday?  This layout has nothing to do with my posted questions.  I made this about a year ago for Maxx's sitter Donna.  She was great to him and I personally miss her.  She did more than just watch him so I jenjoyed doing extra things for her.

The study estimated that Rs. 8,830 million, in all, was paid as bribe by BPL households in the last one year, in availing 11 public services. It is estimated that the poorest households of our country paid Rs. 2,148 million to police as bribe.

India has a lot of categories for her people, particularly those in the bottom strata of society. These categories are set up, presumably, to provide certain benefits to the marginalized population. (The controversial reservations system in higher education and government jobs is one example.) There is a National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) that is in place "to safeguard the interest of Backward Classes". This is the most fungible of the categories, (unlike "Scheduled Castes" (SCs) and "Scheduled Tribes" (STs)) and the NCBC has published guidelines on how to be included in "Other Backward Classes" (OBCs) as well as a central list, by state, of the names of the castes, sub-castes, synonyms, and communities that currently make up OBCs.

Cutting across all these classifications is the category "Below Poverty Line" or BPL (most likely composed of OBCs, SCs and STs). The highlights of the TII-CMS study does not define BPL, but in the 1970's the government of India (GOI) determined that you were poor if your total income fell below the cost of providing 2,400 calories of food per day per rural citizen and 2,100 calories per day per urban citizen. (Dilip D'Souza, writing in India Together, explores what this means in A thin Indian line.) In December 2005, this translated into Rs. 368 (US$ 8.56) per person per month for rural households and Rs. 559 (US$ 13.00) for urban households. That is less than Rs. 13 (US$ 0.29) and Rs. 19 (US$ 0.43) per day, far less than the US$ 1.00 a day used by the World Bank to measure extreme poverty. Mohan Guruswamy and Ronald Joseph Abraham, of the Centre for Policy Alternatives, call the official poverty line (currently 26% of the population) the "starvation line" in their report Redefining Poverty: A New Poverty Line for a New India because this amount is just enough to consume calories, without taking into account nutrition, or any other basic needs, such as drinking water, shelter, sanitation, clothing, and access to education and health care.

These are the people who had to pay an estimated Rs. 8,830 million (over US$ 220 million) in bribes last year to get access to basic and "need-based" services, including the very services specifically set up to alleviate their poverty, such as the Public Distribution System and the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS). (Corruption in the NREGS has been highlighted by the recent murders of two social activists conducting social audits of its implementation in the state of Jharkhand.)

The services and the amount paid in bribes for access to these services, are outlined below, in the order of amount paid. This number is not higher because many people could not pay bribes or did not have "contacts" or influence to get access to services. About a third of the BPL households did not have a "BPL Card" or "ration" card.

Police - Rs. 2,148 million (US$ 53.7 million).

Housing - Rs. 1,566 million (US$ 39.15 million).

Land Records/Registration - Rs. 1.234 million (US$ 30.85 million).

Electricity - Rs. 1,040 million (US$ 26 million).

Hospital - Rs. 870 million (US$ 21.75 million).

Banking - Rs. 831.7 million (US$ 20.8 million).

Public Distribution System - Rs. 458 million (US$ 11.45 million).  The Public Distribution System is a social security measure to distribute subsidized food grains and fuel to BPL households through "ration" shops.

Water supply - Rs. 240 million (US$ 6 million).

Forest - Rs. 240 million (US$ 6 million).  Forest services are primarily used by Scheduled Tribes who live in and around designated National Forests. (When a forest is declared a protected habitat, STs who live in the forest are removed and charged a fee to enter the forest in order to maintain their forest-based livelihood or to gather fuelwood.)

Education (up to Standard XII) - Rs. 120 million (US$ 3 million).

NREGS - Rs. 70 million (US$ 1.75 million). The National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme guarantees one able-bodied member of a family 100 days of work at the prevailing agricultural rate or, if fixed by the Government, a minimum rate of Rs. 60 per day.  BPL households have had to pay bribes to register, get a "job card", get selected, and get paid!

These numbers do not take into account the travel costs and lost wages of visiting an office more than three times and dealing with the absence or non-availability of staff, lengthy procedures and multiple form-filling.

The TII-CMS study recommends a four-pronged drive to reduce corruption:

1. Simplification of procedures.
2. Streamlining of information flows with the help of IT tools and e-governance initiatives.
3. Reorientation of front-end staff to the sensitivities of dealing with the BPL households.
4. Additional civil society activism.

I'm not holding my breath.  Besides a couple of headline grabbing, simplistic summaries of this report, I haven't read any reports of outrage.  It's business as usual.

Aunque la realidad te golpea una y otra vez, sacándote de ensoñaciones utópicas sobre lo bonito que sería que todos fueramos hermanos, en paz y armonía, siempre hay un político cerca que te rescata y te devuelve a las miserias cotidianas.

Hoy he tenido la vana tentación de hacer entender al alcalde de Santander que le echan mucho morro con el tema de las licencias de Valdecilla, que si está mal lo de los gestores del Servicio Cántabro de Salud, no está mucho mejor que quien tiene que hacer cumplir las ordenanzas pase de todo, o lo que es peor, haga la vista gorda.

En las Administraciones Públicas, esto de ir con calma chicha para hacer sus trámites y machacar al contribuyente cuando se retrasa un día en el pago de este o aquel impuesto, es moneda de uso común.

En el caso de Valdecilla Sur se conjugan la inoperancia habitual de una administración regional que no sólo no se sabe cuando acabará el Hospital, sino que que a veces nos recuerda de manera demasiado evidente que es un gigante con los pies de barro. En la otra parte un ayuntamiento que no se entera, o que no se quiere enterar de que un edificio publicitado hasta la saciedad, que estábamos todos esperando a que abriera las puertas para olvidar a su vetusto antecesor, no ha hecho los trámites básicos para su apertura.

Dice De la Serna que no hay un técnico municipal que haya pasado aún a verificar que lo hecho en Valdecilla Sur se ajusta a los proyectos sobre los que en su día se concedieron las pertinentes licencias de obra y demás.

¿Acaso no lee la prensa el alcalde? ¿No ve la televisión local (esto me lo puedo creer)? ¿No escucha la radio? ¿No sabe que desde el 21 de enero le ha crecido un edificio junto a la zona donde quiere encajar un aparcamiento de más de 500 plazas (el del Distribuidor)?

¿Es culpa toda esta situación del Ayuntamiento? Sí y no. En la parte de pedir las licencias, obviamente no. En la de no actuar como garante de las ordenanzas municipales, evidentemente sí.

¿Puede alguien sacar pecho o ponerse farruco con este tema? Sí, aquellos contribuyentes que son multados cuando no piden una licencia de obra adecuada para hacer una reforma en casa, o a los que se les retira el coche por aparcar mal... e incluso aquellos, que en zona de OLA, no solicitan al cajero, previo pago de no más de 1,40 €, el correspondiente ticket a colocar sobre el salpicadero.

¿A que para esto no hace falta una filtración interesada a la prensa?

Was denkt ihr als erstes, wenn man sagt "In dem Geschäft gibt es Web-Kameras"? Man denkt wohl gleich an Lidl und dem Überwachungskamera Skandal. Und seit dem, wenn nicht schon früher, haben Web-Kameras ein noch schlechteres "Image", besonders in Geschäften.

Dass Überwachungskameras nicht nur in Geschäften montiert sind, daran haben wir uns mittlerweile schon gewöhnt. Auf öffentlichen Plätzen, in U-Bahn-Stationen oder Flughäfen, an Bankschaltern, in Kaufhäusern oder Supermärkten, im Eingangsbereich von Gebäuden oder wo auch immer man mit dem starren Auge konfrontiert wird - man beobachtet uns. Zuhause oder in den Kindergärten werden sie bereits eingesetzt. Und alles wegen der Suche nach Kriminellen. Nach untreuen Mitarbeitern. Nach Dieben. Nach Verbrechern.

Heute las ich im Internet, dass nur 3 Prozent der Straßenkriminalität durch Überwachungskameras aufgeklärt wurde. Die Bilder, welche von den 4,5 Mio. Überwachungskameras in England geliefert werden, müssen schließlich auch ausgewertet werden, hierzu fehlt aber das nötige Personal. Von jeder Stunde Videoaufzeichnung können dadurch nur 60 Sekunden ausgewertet werden. Die restlichen 59 Minuten bleiben ungesichtet, ungeachtet dessen was sich darauf ggf. befinden könnte. Kosten-Nutzen-Faktor extrem gering! Hier könnt ihr mehr darüber nachlesen: Sueddeutsche.de. Was denkt ihr: Ist die Aufklärungs- bzw. Verhinderungsrate von kriminellen Aktivitäten auf österreichischem/deutschem Boden höher oder niedriger als 3 %?

Ich möchte in diesem Zusammenhang noch erwähnen, dass nicht jede Kamera im Geschäft da ist, um Diebe auszuforschen. Es gibt auch nette Ideen, wie diese von DiTech: ich habe heute auf ihrer Homepage der Neugier halber oben auf "Webcam" geklickt, und sieh mal einer an: in allen 4 Filialen wurde mitten im Geschäft eine Webcam installiert, und die Liveübertragung von dieser kann jeder während der gesamten Öffnungszeit an seinem Computer ansehen. Oder hier, kann man anschauen ob bei Ditech im SCS momentan viel los ist oder ob der Lieblingsverkäufer heute seine Schicht hat ;-) Ist die Idee nicht toll?

Aus diesem Grunde wird bei nachtsplitter die Vergangenheit bewusst reduziert. Auf jene Eckpunkte, die man wissen muss. Jene Charaktere, die den alten Hass noch in sich tragen. Und die bereit sind, auf Basis des Vergangenen auch die Zukunft in Brand zu setzen.

Von diesem Start-Status aus wird die Geschichte der Domäne durch alle Teilnehmer am Spiel fortgeschrieben. Und das nicht nur in Bezug auf die weitere Entwicklung in Zukunft, sondern auch hinsichtlich der Erweiterung und Ausgestaltung der Vergangenheit.

Wie das Netz der Lüge oder das Berlin der Requiem-Runde von Midnight Dance, so startet auch nachtsplitter mit einem Grundstock an Charakteren. Die auch zur Vergabe in Spielerhand vorgesehen sind. Dabei unterscheidet sich der nachtsplitter Ansatz aber von allen anderen Ansätzen: Denn die Hintergrundrollen sind keine fertig ausgearbeiteten Charaktere, sondern nur "Hüllen". Konzept-Gerüste, die vom Spieler selbst mit Leben gefüllt werden.

Statt dass die Orga von nachtsplitter also einen "Ventrue Xaviar der 8. Generation, der 1702 erschaffen wurde" als Charakter entwickelt und diesen dann in die Hand eines Spielers gibt, schreibt irgend ein Teilnehmer am Spiel eine Geschichte über "den Richter", der im Jahre 1824 eine tödliche Fehde mit "dem Blutsänger" begann, als jener ... – Wer der eine und wer der andere ist, bleibt offen. Nur der Konflikt und die Dramatik desselben sind bekannt. Und zwar nicht nur dem Urheber der Story, sondern offplay allen Teilnehmern am Spiel, und inplay den diversen Rollen, die Einblick in diese "alte Geschichte von der Fehde des Richters und des Blutsängers" haben.

Ein Teilnehmer, der eine Rolle für das Spiel bei nachtsplitter erschafft, kann sich beim Autoren der Story ganz gezielt darum bewerben, "der Blutsänger" zu sein. Oder aber der Autor die Charakternotizen zu einem neuen Charakter im Hintergrund-Wiki durch und entdeckt, dass der Charakter des Spielers gut zum Wesen, der "Hülle", des Blutsängers passen – und schlägt dem Mitspieler bei der Ausgestaltung des Charakters vor, dass jener Charakter eben jener Blutsänger ist. Oder zumindest einst war.

So wird das Spiel von der ersten Nacht an mit Leben gefüllt.

Also mach mit!

Competición de chascarrillos en el Pleno del Parlamento, y eso que estaban presentes los alumnos de 2º de la Facultad de Derecho...

Empezó la sesión con una de esas propuestas desternillantes del PP pidiendo pactos a base de insultos, descalificaciones y sombras de sospecha sobre los altos cargos. No estoy diciendo que no haya sombra de duda sobre la gestión del gerente del SCS, pero lo que sí es cierto es que si sacamos de su propuesta esa parte, el resto creo que era asumible por PRC y PSOE.

A cambio, un debate sobre la futura ley de altos cargos del gobierno, recuerdos a que el PP apoya un tránsfuga en Castro Urdiales, y desde el PSOE, petición de ir al juzgado cuando se crea que alguien del Gobierno incurre en ilegalidades.

Después de ello, una propuesta más que asumible y que sin embargo no sólo siguió el mismo camino que la anterior, sino que desembocó en la fallida ridiculización de Cristina Mazas. La diputada popular pedía un plan para bajar la inflación (no inflacción, señor Berriolope) y lo que obtuvo fueron chanzas y ocurrencias de Berriolope y de Pérez Tezanos.

Con mucho temple, la Mazas les devolvió el desplante dejando claro las lagunas de ambos en cuestiones económicas, recordando que lo mismo pedía Agudo cuando hacía congresos en un autobús, y que Cataluña está en un plan similar. Empate a uno.

Turno para que saliera Ignacio Diego a cantarle las cuarenta a Revilla. Lo que le cantó fueron cuarenta preguntas (alguna menos) aunque por escrito solo planteó una. Revilla, respondió a lo escrito pero también hizo otras dos cosas.

Por un lado acusó al PP de querer que pierda el Racing, que llueva en Cantabria o que no abra GFB, vamos, el mal para Cantabria, y de paso, se puso a disposición del detector de mentiras.

A Diego se la puso a huevo: "si usted se somete al detector de mentiras lo revienta", y de paso, "ni se le ocurra pensar que nosotros somos tan malas personas". Esta se la apunto a Nacho, que además dejó a Revilla sin tiempo para rebatirle... y no es la primera vez.

Finalmente, el PP ha preguntado por qué Del Olmo mintió en el Pleno del día 14. Lo que en principio empezó como una diferencia de criterio sobre lo que es mentir o no, con Del Olmo afirmando, textual, que rechazaba de forma unánime lo de haber mentido (unánime consigo mismo será), acabó con dudas sobre su pasado, los despidos en la autoridad portuaria... y todas esas cosas que denunciaba Tomasín en el Cántabro Perplejo.

Del Olmo, que jugó mejor con los tiempos, tuvo tiempo de afearle su conducta a la diputada popular, María Antonia Cortabitarte, que de todas formas dejó en el aire una serie de dudas sobre el contenido de un CD que les facilitó el propio Del Olmo sobre el PSIR de Marina de Cudeyo, y que no contenía lo que habían pedido... sino otras cosas. ¿A qué documentos se refiere la diputada? ¿Qué fotos?

A ver si encima vamos a tener que sacar ahora una versión cántabra de Interviú con posados y robados... lo que nos faltaba.

P.D.: Ilde planteó también un pregunta sobre cosas de la cuenca del Besaya, pero como no me quedé a escucharlo, pues no sé como fue el debate... aunque me lo imagino.

Since Deans Narduzzi and Kitchen carry academic titles (faculty rank) in addition to their administrative titles, they are eligible for promotion within faculty promotion guidelines. Dean Narduzzi is the first full-time School of Continuing Studies employee to earn the academic rank of full professor.

Ok - so this was for SCS challenge TLC156 and it was given on Monday and here it is Saturday and I am finally getting around to making it.  Actually, I shouldn't have done this at all!  So, when I was making this Andrew and his brother were moving us.  Yep, it's moving day and I am playing in the craft room.  Well, it's Moving day part 1.  We are moving the garage, basement and outdoor stuff ... the inside stuff is going to be moved on Thursday.  I have so much to do ... and everytime I think I need to get started I start working on something else, or I sit my butt on the couch and do Nothing!  LOL  I am just SO NOT motivated!  But I work best under pressure and I really have no choice starting on Monday so why not just wait ... that was my motto during grad school, I used to write 10-20 page papers hours before class.  I would sit down in front of the computer and just start typing, and sometimes I was still doing research while typing.  I am horrible!  This technique does not work for everyone ... but it sure does for me! 

But anyway, I made this little pouch for my sweetie and I stuffed it with peppermint patties to say thanks for all he does and for moving us while I play and watch the little man!  :)  My job was much more fun!

The worst manicure I've ever ever done before. At People's Park Complex Level One, right at the corner, beside KFC.
A small parlour, 3 ladies, PRCs I think.

Drop by yesterday during lunch, a girl's thing lah. Just suddenly feel like doing my nails so just walk in loh.
Wanted to express french manicure, cuz I only have 1 hour and I need to buy lunch also. The girl didn't know what's french then the other lady told her its those white white strips one loh.
Then she sat down and start doing for me.
Firstly, they do not have colour plates for me to choose from. So I roughly told her what I want and she took out 2 bottles for me to choose from. The first one was like glitter white, BUT I'm doing french liao leh. White base and white tip?
The second one was alright, abit skin colour. Then she went on painting my nails. Just 1 coat. I thought it's supposed to be 2 coats one mah. Ok never mind, I pretty 随便 one. But when she started doing the white tips, I almost want to faint.
Uneven and super fat or rather thick.

This is the worse french manicure I've ever done loh. She only painted once also, and it's not even, can see some base colour too. And she didn't touch up. Actually when she file my nails, it's already uneven and I pointed out to her liaos.
But her painting lagi worse.

Then the lady boss, or supposedly the lady boss lah. She walk over and look at my nails and can still say if my nails longer will be nicer. Come on loh. I know my  nails or rather fingers are not long and dainty, but hor, the way she paint the white tip, took up like 3/4 of my nail. My god. Haha.

Not going back again!!! Still ask me to try their 3D nail art.

That night when I play MJ with Darling's aunty they all, his aunt told me something about Darling. Haha.
She told me 仕源 没有脾气的hor?
She say when Darling was young, still a boy, one day he saw like a beggar or handicapped (can't recall) but very poor thing begging for $, then Darling when over and give him all his money.
So sweet hor.
天真无邪. Haha.

And he's very filial also. He stayed alone till late in the hospital when his grandma was hospitalised and also stayed late alone at the funeral to 'take care' of her, 守夜.

I feel so 幸福 to have him by my side all these while. Suddenly I feel like knowing him earlier. Many  years back since Sec School days. Perhaps I will then get better results and I can grow up with him. Hee.

Sometimes thinking back of the past few years, before I know him, certain things that I've done and have not done.
Alot of regrets.
There's always regrets in life, but we can't look back anymore,  have to look forward. We can't change what has already happen but we can make the future a better one.

Darling showed me a newspaper article few weeks back.  It's about a course that people paid few thousands or hundreds to be scolded and cry and whatever. Abit like 'siao lang keng' (madhouse).
I read and read then I told him I've been through something like this before leh Darling.  Haha.
Faints.

Remember I used to be from WBG mah. True to be told, I did enjoy the whole experience there lah. I was there for about 1 year. I know alot of people there, doctors, teachers, self-employed, businessmen etc...
Reason being for joining a MLM company (yes it's mlm, no matter how nice you try to paint the picture, it's still mlm), it's mainly trust at that point of time and I sorta thought I really can earn passive income.

The whole 1 year, I think more money came out then went into our pocket.
It's true that the one on top earns the most lah, but we can also  be on top if we want. Bring more people in loh. Then we will be on top.

People always say dun go MLM, they brainwash you.
It's actually very subjective.
Brainwash and A New Concept.
Basically, the person is just trying to tell you, MLM is workable. And he/she believe in it. You can say he/she is trying to brainwash you, cuz he/she is trying to tell you something that you dun believe. And by trying to change your concept about it, it means brainwashing.
But it can also mean, opening up a new path, a new area to think about.

It's always the mentality of the person who's introducing you to MLM and also, there's always both sides of thinking.
For me, when I invite my friends up those days, not that many came up. I target mainly on cold market.  Haha.
But when I invite them up, it's because I truly believe at that point of time WBG is the place for them.
It's a place for growth, for money and health. 3 in 1. Earn and keep fit at the same time. Why  not?

But some people might think, oh no... Want to earn my money right? Ask me to sell products right?
Dun blame them lah.
Now I'm skeptical too. Haha.
Friends might think, this xxx 10 years never call me liao. Suddenly call me must be 'bo(2) hou(2) kang  tou'.  And they will spread to their friends, this xxx doing MLM now, he call you , you better dun answer loh. Got motive one loh.

But for network marketers, it's a chance for them to get back in touch with their old / long lost friends.
It's really how you see things.

Products of WBG are alright, quite effective. They have alot of successful testimonies.
Mama is one of them. Lose 10kg in 1 month, but also 大出血.  Cuz the products very expensive.

There's courses at WBG too, that's supposed to be one of the selling points. Not just sales okay. We provide courses too.
Alot of people say it's a brainwashing course. Haha. The same thing loh.
Both sides to things.

I attended the course, the first one, SCS. Super motivated after that. I want to earn this I want to buy that by when when when.
Draw up goals and pain and pleasures.
But I dun think I achieve any of them. Haha.

Then Mum also attended. I was so happy then when she agree to go on SCS.

SCS was alright lah, not much madness. But at the ending part, we have to shout  some 口号 kind of thing with action, until the coach happy then we can pass through and then we graduate.
I seriously dunno how they judge if you attain their requirements.
I was a so called assistant coach or assistant instructor once also. But hor, I can't judge when are the participants ready leh. Haha. Maybe I'm too 肤浅. Haha.

And they say I'm too self-conscious when I was the assistant coach. Well. I think I am. Haha.

The other course I attended was SPS, there's one part in SPS which is quite similar to the newspaper article loh.
Actually the content of the courses were beneficial and interesting. They gather information from other mentors and re-enhance it so we can relate better.

But the last part of SPS is... Abit siao loh. Haha.
We are supposed to make the 2 judges laugh. Both must agree that we are funny then we can pass the whole course.
And we have to make monkey faces, disgusting actions, act like ghosts, roll on the floor blah blah.
I'm like OH MI GOD. Siao bo.

I have to force myself to make all stupid actions, almost want to give up liao. Have to逼自己 to carry on. I think I did something silly like rolling on the floor and monkey faces.
My god.
Argh.  Haha.

And all the people around us are laughing at us loh. Like so 白痴. I think I won't want to go through this again.Perhaps that's why I'm not successful in MLM.

And most importantly, I met 只会说不会做的 mentors.

If given a chance to choose again, I guess I won't join WBG loh.
No doubt it's a good experience, boost confidence etc... But if I can chose a again I think I won't choose the same path.

You can be successful in MLM but it's not easy work.

I think 脚踏实地 is still the best.
Dun dream and dream. Dream for 1 million by 30. Dream of starting biz and earning this and that.
Action loh.
Instead of spending 5 yrs dreaming, rather spend the time doing something productive.

I wanted to use my Papertrey Ink stamps as each month they release new stamps and you can enter their competition to be one of their 'Guest Star Stamper'. The message stamps was one of last months release so I thought I would give the competition a go. I also used the lovely Spiral Bouquet set.

I am really really happy with how this card turned out. Better than I had imagined. I think I might give this to Rob to give to his mother for mother's day here in the UK.

This card is for yesterday's SCS Sketch Challenge 161.

 Ok - So i finished this card yesterday, but it has taken until today to upload it. Oh, Well!
I pretty much just used the scraps from cards that I have made from previous challenges. Apricot Appeal, Choc Chip (of course) the Cutie Pie DP, and WW. I used my cuttlebug to emboss the AA paper. I used some pewter hardware and added the fun new felt flowers from SU!
For the sentiment I used SU Fundamental Phrases. I was going to just use hello, but then I thought I would add friend to it. Now I have that stupid song stuck in my head ... Hello my friend, Hello! AAAHHH!!!
