I was just checking my Google Alert for Dave Matthews Band and had a shock. LeRoi Moore, saxophoni

I was just checking my Google Alert for Dave Matthews Band and had a shock. LeRoi Moore, saxophonist for the band, has died. I can't believe it. He was only 46. In June he was in an ATV accident and from the updates I had seen online, he seemed to be recovering, albeit he had a few complications. The article on MTV.com reporting LeRoi's death yesterday said that it was unexpected. Waves of disbelief keep hitting me. I can't imagine DMB without LeRoi. Because he was the quiet member of the band as far as interviews were concerned, I always imagined him to be this deep and mysterious guy. He sure could communicate through his various instruments, though. He could make his saxophones and pennywhistles speak. As the thought of his death sinks in, I'm feeling sad - sad for him, sad for his family, sad for the band, and sad for his fans.

Rest in peace, LeRoi.

My sincerest condolences to his family, the Dave Matthews Band, and all the fans.

Dance is one of Gary Numan’s more interesting albums, coming hot off the heels of his successf

Dance is one of Gary Numan's more interesting albums, coming hot off the heels of his successful trio of Replicas, The Pleasure Principle, and Telekon, which contained the hits and fan favorites "Are 'Friends' Electric?", "Down in the Park", "Me! I Disconnect From You", "Cars", "Complex", "Metal", "Films", "Sleep By Windows", "Remind Me to Smile", "We Are Glass", and "I Die: You Die". Unlike those albums, which are full of heavy, machine-like synths, heavy percussion, and, in the case of Replicas, punkish guitars, Dance has a much more atmospheric quality, though the prominent basslines present in his previous efforts are retained here. A much more atmospheric quality, almost ambient even, is present, and seems to be an evolution of the more atmospheric sounding synthesizers on Telekon and the basslines are more fluid and funky due to the fretless bass contributions of Japan's Mick Karn. The electric guitar is present, but not even used on most of the songs. The ones that do use it are able to incorporate it as a support to the synthesizers, but in the process is transforms the songs into synth rockers that sound great with that extra snarl of the guitar. The viola that was used on his albums since The Pleasure Principle is still used to bring lovely melodies to the songs and bring a warmer sounds to the songs, while saxophone is incorporated into some songs as well, giving them a jazzy quality when present. Though this new sound of his wasn't commercially successful, it certainly separated him from the other electronic acts at the time.

Numan's follow-up to Dance is I, Assassin, which is in a way an evolution of the sound present on Dance from atmospheric to more dance oriented. The atmospheric synthesizers are retained on I, Assassin but are used more sparingly, with greater emphasis now placed on the percussion and even more prominent bass work, which is played by Pino Paladino here. The guitar is now used even less here, only showing up on 3 or 4 songs (I'm unable to really tell if there's guitar on the title track), but the way it's used is similar to that on Dance.

Basically, here's a simple breakdown of the qualities of each:

Dance

Atmospheric synthesizers

Funky quality, due to fretless bass

Some synth rockers, when guitar used

More experimental, less cohesive

Saxophone and viola, gives jazzy and orchestral quality

Couple songs too long & tend to drag

Prominent percussion and basslines

I, Assassin

Dance oriented

Still funky

Less guitar incorporation, still good when present

No viola, little saxophone

More prominent fretless bass

Less use of atmospheric synthesizers

All of you know I'm completely infatuated with Dave Matthews Band and the music they produce. Yesterday, LeRoi, the saxophone player who has been with DMB since the beginning, passed away. Rather than post a tribute video from YouTube that is slightly depressing, I have chosen this song, entitled So Damn Lucky.

If you listen to the words it's about surviving a car crash (depressing, I know) but he survives, reflects on being lucky to live... as we all should be.

I have seen LeRoi seven times in my life. You may not always notice him but without the saxophone there, there's an undertone to the music that is missing. I will miss him at the next concert I go to...

I was shocked and saddened today by the news that the saxophonist for Dave Matthews Band, LeRoi Moore, has passed away at age 46. Apparently, in June, Moore had suffered an ATV accident that left him with a punctured lung and his death was due to complications arising from that injury. As an avid DMB fan who's seen over 25 shows, I was always amazed by his skill on a variety of instruments. This passing is not only unfortunate to family, friends and fans, but a huge blow to the band. Moore's work on the various woodwind instruments was always a highlight and a most important part of the band's chemistry and sound. His trademark sunglasses on stage supposedly helped him close his eyes and overcome his stage fright, while letting his music speak for him. In his years with the Band, Moore helped explore the various world themes of their music while also expanding the jazz sound within a rock genre. His live solos on "#41," his signature baritone sound on such songs as "What Would You Say" and "Too Much," and his woodwind work on such songs as "Cry Freedom" and "Say Goodbye" helped shape the sound and momentum of the band. He will be sorely missed and impossible to replace. Moore was a musician who was constantly looking for ways to evolve and diversify his sound, and his contributions to both the saxophone and the rock scene will be remembered.

We drove down to Rock Hill and looked at a farm for sale with five acres and a barn. It was a neat property - very beautiful although loud from road noise and the house was over 200 years old. Still, Erick and I stood at the fence looking out at the green all around and he smiled and told me I looked beautiful, "You're glowing." I was amazed at how good if felt just to be near open spaces and large, old trees again. I was tempted to buy the property for the land alone and live in a tent beside the house!

Anyway, we're looking in both Michigan and in North Carolina.

On a sad note, Dave Matthews Band saxophonist LeRoi Moore died yesterday. Erick had a dream the night before last that he was playing sax on the streets in Uptown, so I put the two events together and told him to drive up to Charlottesville for an audition. Jeff Coffin is filling in currently (great musician). I really enjoyed the element of jazz Moore added to the band's music. Moore died unexpectedly after complications resulting from an ATV accident on his farm in VA.

Dave Matthews Band saxophonist LeRoi Moore died Tuesday from complications due to an ATV accident he had on June 30. Not many details about the cause of death have been released, but we do know that Moore had recently returned home to L.A. to start physical therapy. To me, that fact makes it a lot sadder; I hate the idea that he seemed to be doing well and that his friends and family probably got their hopes up that he would make it.

Moore had been with the band from the start. At a concert on Tuesday, Dave told the crowd about Moore's death, acknowledging that "It's always easier to leave than be left." Wise words, bud.

As I've mentioned, I saw Dave live this summer at the Mile High Music Festival, and I remember my friend Katie was really bummed that Moore was not playing with the band that day, because he was her favorite of the band members. And we just realized that my roommate saw DMB live on June 28, which means she may have been among the last lucky ones to get to see Moore play.

Here's a New York Times article about Moore's death, and DMB's website has a nice tribute page up right now.

On September 23, saxophonist and composer Kenny Garrett will make his Mack Avenue Records debut with Sketches Of MD: Live At The Iridium. A capricious excursion into open-ended melodies over grooves that reflect the artistry of key sidemen from Miles Davis' many groups - from John Coltrane to Kenny himself - Sketches Of MD is a compositionally relaxed yet "live" record of some music Kenny performed at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City with his band (Benito Gonzales on piano, Nat Reeves on bass, and Jamire Williams on drums) and special guest, tenor saxophone legend Pharoah Sanders.

Breaking down Sketches of MD, Kenny states, "I wanted to document the band I took on the road for Beyond the Wall while we were working with Pharoah and also write some new songs. The idea of doing the Miles-related songs just evolved. It's funkier than Beyond the Wall, but then again not really. When you think of John Coltrane's or McCoy Tyner's music, it had an ostinato, vamp kind of feel with elongated tunes. What we're doing is a little different basically because the beats are different." The result, captured before a live audience in New York City, is a soul-stirring energy exchange. "That's because this music was as new to the audience as it was to the band," Kenny explains. - theurbanmusicscene.com

“Big” John Patton (1935-2002) was one of the masters of the Hammond B3 organ in jazz, and worked with artists as diverse as Lou Donaldson and John Zorn.
Compared to none, this prolific trio Azymuth has been a staple at the core of the my personal music collection especially when it comes to Brazilian jazz. Their tour de force, one that defies category when it comes to performing they're eclectic blend jazz, funk and "R&B " elements of this intoxicating music from Brazil! Over the years jazz enthusiasts has compared José Roberto Bertrami to the legendary keyboardist Joe Zawinul. However, José holds his own as a multi-keyboardist with his exquisite underlying melodies, colorful tones and unique canvas of flavors. - J Desmond | The Urban Flux

Here she embraces classic material, the likes of "Love for Sale," "I Didn't Know About You," "If I Should Lose You," "Everytime We Say Goodbye," and "The Summer Knows" among the 11 tracks. Her good company this time out includes pianist George Colligan, bassist Richie Goods, drummer Dwayne "Cook" Broadnax, and special guests Billy Higgins on drums, Freddy Cole on vocals, and Henry Johnson on guitar.
This post is dedicated for you Yali. I am sorry. Singer Karthik reveals his experience with A R Rahm

This post is dedicated for you Yali. I am sorry. Singer Karthik reveals his experience with A R Rahman in a show called "Memories" in Jaya TV. Karthik in his earlier days of college life was a regular participant in IIT Sarang. He was an absolutely crazy Rahman fan.

Being asked had he ever thought of getting a chance to sing for Rahman, he replied "No No. I just wanted to see him at least once. I was such a crazy fan. I used to call the studios so many times and usually the studio manager or someone picks and keeps the phone. It was one of my cousin who was close to singer Srinivas who got me that golden opportunity to meet Rahman. It was purely by God's grace. When I met him, he asked " Do you sing? " and I said yes and sang a song in front of him.

He then immediately said, "You have a nice voice. why don't you choose singing as your career". That was the moment, I left everything else and again started practicing daily. I was so happy to hear that from him. But I didn't get a chance immediately. It was an interesting incident and unforgettable even now - The opportunity that I got to sing for Rahman. That day was one of my friends birthday. So we a gang of friends went out to a snooker parlor and decided to spend till midnight and give a surprise birthday gift to our friend. Those days Cellphones were not that popular and only one of our friend had. Rahmanji was looking for some fresh voices to do a chorus and Singer Srinivas was trying to reach Tippu, Harish Raghavendra and Gopalrao.

When he couldn't get hold of one of them he tried reaching my home number. My mom was trying to reach my friend's cell phone but unfortunately couldn't reach as the signal was so poor in the snooker parlor. Srinivas had at least tried 8 times to my home and my mom started literally crying because she knows how much interest I was showing towards singing. It was at 11:45 when we came upstairs, after three and half hours, I got to attend my mom's call and came to know about the call from the studio. I took my bike and rushed to the studio. I saw Javed Akthar Sir for the first time. The movie was Pukar and I had to sing with the chorus with Tippu, Harish, and Dr.Narayan.

That was my first recording and it just happened in 30 mins and at around 1.00 am, I'm home. I couldn't just believe that I did a recording in Rahmanji's studio. I told all my friends but no one believed. Unfortunately, that song in Pukar didn't release. Then I used to regularly do some chorus with Tippu and Harish and I was singing Chorus for nearly one year. Rahman always gets confused in identifying Tippu and me. He always thought I'm Tippu. One day during a chorus session, Rahman said, "You, the guy without spectacles, you stay there, others come out".

That was me. I know he is going to ask me to sing. I thought this is the opportunity and I have to prove myself else pack my bags and go back to studies. He asked to sing a sad alaap, I was singing and he was guiding by playing the chords. He wanted more cry in the alaap and I just forgot myself and started singing continuously, closing my eyes. After a while, I opened my eyes to see everyone laughing. Rahman had already standing next to me and said "Good Job. You did well".

Next day, he asked me to come to the studio for a track. He said he is going to try something and also said if it works well, he will use it. That was the song for the movie Jodi and the song is "Nendhukittaen Nendhukittaen". I was nervous but Rahman has a special capability. He knows what technique to use to extract the work from the singers. He sets the right mood to each singer. He started cutting jokes with me and made me really comfortable before recording the song. It took me 45 minutes to complete the song. After the recording, he said, it's good, let's see, if it works out, we will use it. This is how I got my first break with Rahman.

The "Girl Friend" song in boys was really interesting. While working with Rahman, you will never know how the song will come out but this is the one song that every one of us knew that it's gonna rock. When I started recording this song, Rahman interrupted and said, "I want you to sing in a "Blues" feel". I smiled and said, "I don't know blues, please guide me". Then he started singing it for me. He said think a saxophone and deliver the words like a saxophone. It was interesting.

At the end of the talk, the anchor asked "You need to sing in the night while working for Rahman. Doesn't it feel uncomfortable?" Karthik smiled and replied "Michael Jackson says that he is going to meet you at 3 AM. Will you tell him, No, come at 6:00PM". I know what you are trying to ask. If you like a work and you have commitment to do that work, these things doesn't matter at all. It's all about the passion that makes you work, be it any time".

One of the coolest, baddest, funkiest albums Cannonball Adderley ever recorded -- a massive suite of tunes based on the signs of the Zodiac, produced to perfection by David Axelrod, and featuring some hip recitations from the mighty Rick Holmes! The double-length set is completely compelling all the way through -- a darkly brooding batch of funky jazz that shows a strong Miles Davis electric influence at points, thanks to Nat Adderley's spacey trumpet lines, Mike Deasy's trippy guitar, and George Duke's excellent keyboards! - Dusty Groove

No doubt, we love to explore new music at the Flux. In the meantime, we also love to dig the vault find some extra special sounds to listen too. Moreover, when you have friends and strangers alike to draw quality music from we gotta pull out some classic gems and take them for a spin.

Ravi Coltrane - In Flux

[caption id="attachment_904" align="alignleft" width="96" caption="Ravi Coltrane, "In Flux""][/caption]

Like many, I admire saxophonist Ravi Coltrane for accurately pursuing the footsteps of his dad the legendary John Coltrane. We also know, Ravi of course isn't his dad in timbre and he will probably not be not will he receive the same notoriety. Does it matter? Maybe? Nonetheless, I don't think he's not trying to acheive with this or any of his previous albums.

In Flux is an impressive canvas painted by Ravi Coltrane. The maturity of his tone is rich, colorful, and balanced with a conduit of melodic dexterity many of his peers long to employee in their sound. Therefore, his voice is transfixed in a place that's rhythmically and conceptually on point which fits perfectly well within the framework of bop today or yesterday. - J Desmond

The Jazz Crusaders - Lighthouse 68'

[caption id="attachment_905" align="alignleft" width="96" caption="The Jazz Crusaders, "Lighthouse 68""][/caption]

The sound of the Jazz Crusaders was unmistakable. The dark, rich sound of Wayne Henderson's trombone and Wilton Felder's Texas tenor popped. Joe Sample's articulate piano style was as orchestral as it was rhythmic, and Stix Hooper could provide lots of color without sacrificing the great grooves he'd establish.

The Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach was the site of their most satisfying and commercially successful albums. "Lighthouse '68" was propelled by their aggressively unsentimental version of "Eleanor Rigby", but the album was full of great compositions by the band members, including bassist Buster Williams.- Amazon.com

Donald Byrd - Street Lady

[caption id="attachment_918" align="alignleft" width="96" caption="Donald Byrd, "Street Lady""][/caption]

Arguably, the sounds of the seventies with trumpeter Donald Byrd at the helm was a magical moment for contemporary jazz especially from the black perspective. Blue Note Records was innovative enough to have their paradigm in place with phase one by adjusting they're artist sound to be woven into the current musical trend. Producers Larry and Fonce Mizell where called upon to use their expertise to create hits for Blue Note catalog of artist. Therefore, their hip sound caught on fire and resonated across black radio, home stereos, and cars from coast to coast as they're groove fit perfectly in the eclectic mode of sassy "Blaxploitation" films and soundtracks.- J Desmond

Kevin Eubanks, Spiritalk 2

[caption id="attachment_936" align="alignleft" width="96" caption="Kevin Eubanks, "Spiritalk 2""][/caption]

Two years after releasing the original Spiritalk, Kevin Eubanks reunites the same group of musicians for another collection of organic fusion compositions. Drummer Marvin "Smitty" Smith, regardless of what one might think of him in general, simply smokes in situations like this. He is absolutely unchained, playing with the energy (and seemingly the limbs) of two or more men. Smith and Eubanks interact like McLaughlin and Cobham, or Morse and Morgenstein. Some of the most exciting moments on Spiritalk 2 are those in which their high-octane improvisations threaten to run out of control. - Kevin Eubanks

This pretty much sums up the awesomeness of the cavaliers. I've decided that I'm going to let no one talk me out of it. I'm auditioning and (hopefully) playing with the Cavaliers this summer. I only have 3 years left that I'm young enough to do this, and it's something I've always really wanted to do.

On a similar note: I hate teaching saxophone, and I'm starting to dislike playing it also. It is such a picky instrument that takes more practice than it is worth. And when you teach it, you have to use the phrase "it could be ___" a million times when a student is having a problem. The saxophone is by far the best woodwind instrument... but brass is where it's at.

Dicas básicas para não cair do salto. O salto alto é indispensável em certas ocasiões. Pode variar o tamanho de acordo com a estatura da mulher, mas uma hora todas terão de se render.

Altos e altíssimos, somente à noite. Se não está acostumada treine antes, aumentando gradativamente o tamanho do salto até se sentir confortável;

Procure distribuir o peso do corpo por toda perna, com apoio central do quadril e abdômen contraído; não trave os joelhos;

Evite subir ou descer escadas usando apenas a parte dianteira do pé, use toda a base virando o pé para o lado - subindo ou descendo quase de lado mesmo;

Jogue os ombros para trás, assim o corpo terá uma postura melhor e mais equilíbrio.

1) I have got to get my scan on.

It's a bit of an impediment to flow, having a scanner, having a computer, but not having the wherewithal to have them shake hands and work together.

* sigh ... *

I own it: I'm not gadget guy. But this is not part and parcel of me being a tech cheese-fist. There is definitively no driver that exists for my particular scanner that will work within this machine / os configuration. Old hp, old mac. Screw it, I'll schlep my wares over to glom of a friend's rig before too much longer, I hope.

Been fairly productive, line wise. Out of no where, I've taken to drawing without pencil, and, necessarily, significantly, without eraser. That's kind of a big symbolic deal.

2) What a wake-up call this morning, facing my saxophonic rustiness. That's. What. Happens when you don't find time to play. My diaphragmatic processes and structures are total mung. Dang. I literally need to relearn how to breathe correctly into a saxophone.

Which means that I need to find time, and a place, to accomplish this.

3) First published blog contribution! Also kind of a big symbolic deal. Many thanks, Dan.

I'd be remiss to not encourage any who find their way here to meander on over there as you travel the tubes.

Well, I think I’ll start off with posting the classes I will be taking during the first semes

Well, I think I'll start off with posting the classes I will be taking during the first semester of my freshman year.

Music Theory Lecture, Music Theory Lab, Saxophone Masterclass, Wind Ensemble, Saxophone Ensemble, Piano I, Music Forum, Strategies for College Success, and Introduction to Philosophy.

I decided not to be in the marching band though I really wanted to so I could focus on practicing and really being prepared for my performances and the two ensembles I'm in. The marching band took up such a huge amount of time and I wouldn't be able to practice 3 hours a day if I had been in it. I'll join next year, though, so I won't completely miss out on the college marching band experience!

The Music Theory lecture last 50 minutes and then the lab lasts an hour and 15 minutes, since the professor breaks down everything he said in the lecture and discusses it with a smaller group.

The saxophone masterclass is taught by the saxophone professor and is pretty much like a group lesson where everyone analyzes pieces of music, discusses the various techniques used during those pieces, and develops their saxophone playing skill as a group.

I don't know if I'm in the wind ensemble yet since auditions are right before school starts and on the first day of school but it is the highest band that consists of wind players and I've heard they play some really cool music. I won't know I'm in until my saxophone professor places me into an ensemble after my audition.

Piano I is pretty self-explanatory. I decided to be placed into Piano I instead of a more advanced piano since even though I've been playing since I was 5, my teacher never taught me the basics. And this class covers all the basics. If it's too easy, then I'm going to switch into a more advanced class during the first week, which is Add/Drop Week.

Music Forum meets 2 times a week and that's where you listen to professors' and students' performances, along with performing yourself on your assigned day. All music majors have a required amount of performances they need to attend so although you aren't forced to attend every music forum class, you do need to meet the number of performances you need to listen to. The first Music Forum class is the music majors' orientation.

Strategies for College Success and Introduction to Philosophy are the 2 classes that aren't music related. Strategies for College Success is only for freshmen and that's where you learn about college, how to stay organized, how to manage your time successfully, and etc., which should be pretty useful. And Introduction to Philosophy is where we discuss the meaning and justification of fundamental ideas and beliefs concerning reality, knowledge, and values of human beings, which should be really interesting.

So, that's that. I will be moving into my dorm at the University of Central Florida on August 21st and I will update during the first week of school on which ensemble I'm in and how my classes are! In closing, I will leave this quote for you to ponder.

~Candace

Music lives in three tenses at once. Developing what comes before it in the past, it engages us in the present, and inspires our hopes for its future. ~Warren Benson

It's 11:30 PM and I'm sitting at a very cozy bar at the main intersection in Dinant, Belgium listening to a piano/guitar duo playing a variety of jazz standards and some cover tunes. The guitar player caught my ear during dinner so I decided to stick around and listen. What the heck, I've only got eight or nine hours to kill until the day begins, right? (if you don't get that part, you haven't read Part I yet. Please do.)

Rene the keyboardist was comping and singing along to her Casio keyboard rhythm tracks while Richard played nice guitar solos behind her. As I sat there at the corner of this really small bar, I had my gig bag standing on end by my feet where I could hold it easily. A table of four people was directly in front of me, then the small stage. One of the happy Belgians looked at me and smiled and noticed my sax-shaped case. He pointed and said something in French, probably "oh ho ho, a saxophonist! Will you be playing with the band tonight?" I smiled back and shrugged my shoulders. After a few minutes the other man at the table noticed my case and asked in English if I was going to play tonight. This man's name is Ewan, and he helped make my night.

Ewan works for Belgacom as a network engineer and speaks English fairly well. We talked for a few minutes and before you know it he was asking the duo if I could sit in for a tune. During the exchange i heard the words "saxophonist professional" and "Texas," so I think he was telling them my story. They gladly welcomed me up and I played a tune with them. The small crowd loved it, as did the duo, and for the rest of the night I sat on stage with my new friends playing all sorts of music and drinking the constant flow of free beer from the owner of the club and his Jordyn Sparks lookalike bartender. It turns out that the owner is a big jazz fan. I think he)was also a fan of the fact that before I started playing there were six customers in the place, while after a couple of tunes there were about twenty inside (as many as it could hold) and every table outside was occupied. In fact, he liked it so much that he asked me to come back the next day and play a gig on my own and he would actually pay me. Pretty cool.

We played until about 2 AM. At this point the duo was tuckered out and needed to get home. I was asked where I was staying and I told Ewan the story about the hotel. The next thing you know the owner is calling up friends looking for a place for me to stay. He also asked me if I would play at his bar the next day for money. I picked up a gig! Pretty cool... ;-) Then, a cab driver took me a few miles away to see if another hotel was open. He took me back to the club and someone offered their place to me for the evening. Her name is Viola, she is a very sweet yet eclectic older woman that speaks broken English. Earlier in the evening she had attended a concert that featured several angry German rock bands, and she was still dressed the part. A million bracelets on one arm, colors in her hair, a razor blade necklace, etc. Think chain smoking flower child and you get the picture. She was happy to be back in Dinant listening to jazz, and she offered me a place to get some sleep.

David, a bass player friend of hers showed up earlier while I was playing and the three of us drove to her apartment not far away from the club. We went inside and I felt like I was stepping into a time machine. The walls of this one-room flat were covered with posters of Jim Morrison, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix and the like. She had beads hanging from the ceiling and also owned a very friendly black cat named Jim Morrison. We sat down on the various pieces of furniture in the room and both Viola and David wanted to talk music shop. I was cool with that, but I was also friggin' exhausted. But, I humored them with stories and answered their questions about America, politics and music. When Viola found out that I was a computer geek she asked if I could help fix her laptop. It was almost inoperable due to the boatload of spyware and trojan horses she had. I was able to install AVG and SpyBot and after several scans and reboots was able to clean up her machine for her. By 6:00 AM we finally zonked out, Viola let me have her bed while she kept the couch. Sadly, given the heat wave and lack of air conditioning (they don't really need it in Dinant) I was uncomfortable for the four hours that I actually laid there. I got a little sleep, but not much.

I was going to leave on my own and walk back to town to start my tourist jaunt, but Viola heard me getting ready to leave and wanted to show me the way to the statues herself. (While we walked together along the river back to town and I learned that several years ago she was in a horrible car accident that left her in a coma for a month. She had to re-learn how to use her arms and legs, You would never know it by looking at her.) We reached the first statue, a giant saxophone standing alone in a fountain at the end of Rue Adolphe Sax. I took out my horn, set up my video camera, stepped up to the statue and started playing. Some people started gathering and taking pictures, meanwhile Viola was snapping away with my camera to capture the event. We then made the short walk down Rue Sax to the statue of Adolphe sitting on a bench in front of the house where he was born. There is a very modest display of his work in an empty storefront, I was surprised to see something so basic in honor of the coolest instrument known to man. I played another time here on the bench next to Adolph and completed my saxophone mission. A few more pictures and I was done. I performed where it all began. Check that off my life to-do list.

With only a couple of hours left before I had to catch the train back to Brussells I decided to do some more sightseeing. I bought some Dinant souvenirs and took the cable car up to the Citadel to enjoy the amazing view. It was gorgeous, the weather, while unseasonably warn, offered me the chance to take lots of amazing post card perfect pictures. I descended via cable car and walked back to the bar and played a short gig with David, a very fine bass player in the Jaco Pastorius idiom.

Sadly, I had to leave just as "Saxophone Sunday" was beginning. Every Sunday in July and August the city sponsors varied music groups to perform in the streets. As I walked across the bridge back to the train station I could hear a strolling dixieland band playing close to the post office. But, I had to make this train or else I would miss the last train from Brussells to London. Fortunately my return trip was perfect, just like my weekend turned out to be. If I hadn't missed my train on Saturday I would have had a hotel room and slept through sitting in with the duo, meeting Ewan, David and Viola, and getting the chance to play my own gig in the birthplace of the saxophone.
