I couldn't agree with you more.  There's a lot of people out there who eat that kind of stuff up.  There's also a lot of people out there who feel exactly how you do - the problem is that those people who "get it" often feel that nothing can be done -- that we're so far gone, or that others will eventually address these problems.  The U.S. has always depended upon the action of it's citizens to face the threats to peace and prosperity that we are now confronted with from both inside and outside the United States.  We have outsourced our patriotic duty to politicians, CEOs, and the banks.  I wish I knew what to do, but I don't.  I keep looking for someone to fill the leadership void in this country, but no one does.  And I'll tell you what, if I'm looking for someone to fill that gap, then we are certainly living in very detached and dangerous times.  I wonder how will I be able to leave a legacy to my son in which he can "honestly" be proud to be an American and not just chant the words at sporting events.  When I look to cast blame, all I need to do is look in the mirror...and so should everyone else.  The beacon on the hill is very dim indeed.

It is the power of the corporations through their contributions that really control what is going on and who gets elected. For example, the video decries Health Care by intimating that the Dems will bankrupt it like Social Security and Medicare , so we better leave it alone. Leave it alone? Tens of MILLIONS of people either don't have health care or have inadequate access to heath care. The insurance companies and the drug companies have never tried to come up with any sort of plan, never have tried to compromise to find a plan that might work. It is in their interest to scare people into thinking they will have to wait on lines to get health care and that there are no alternatives, no middle ground that could work. Instead of being realistic and innovative they fall back on stories about 80 year olds in Canada that have to come to the US for operations because they were denied an operation in Canada.

Open more medical schools and create more doctors? Hell no! Keep them in limited supply so their value increases. These are the guys that control our scumbag congressmen. This, and other types of arguments are throughout the video, clothed in the American Flag and some sort of stupid idea of uni-culturalism which in truth is an anathema to the American way of life. The only thing missing was some patriotic music to make
us feel more US vs. THEM.

In a notice filed Thursday, attorney Daniel Horowitz said Savage decided not to file an amended racketeering claim.

In an unusual three-page filing, Horowitz told the judge that he had prepared a 116-page amended lawsuit, but that Savage decided not to file it because of "factors arising out of this litigation but taking place (or potentially have an effect) outside of this litigation."

The court filing gave no details, but in a telephone interview Horowitz said the factors included an alleged phone threat to Savage. Horowitz said he wasn't accusing the Islamic group of making threats, but said Savage didn't want to take the risk that the case could inspire a "lone nut" to try to harm his family. Source

Lone nut = lone jihadi? Also notice the manner of reporting. When CAIR declares a Muslim has received death threats, they are matters of fact. Here, it is an alleged threat and any suggestion that CAIR had something to do with the threat would be "scurrilous". The last paragraph has nothing to do with the subject but is clearly intended as a swipe at Savage.

Up until now, this war was framed as a simple tale of Good Helpless Democratic Guy Georgia versus Bad Savage Fascist Guy Russia. In fact, it is far more complex than this, morally and historically. Then there are two concentric David and Goliath narratives here. The initial war pitted the Goliath Georgia?a nation of 4.4 million, with vastly superior numbers, equipment and training thanks to US and Israeli advisers?against David-Ossetia, with a population of between 50,000-70,000 and a local militia force that is barely battalion strength.

Reports coming out of South Ossetia tell of Georgian rockets and artillery leveling every building in the capital city, Tskhinvali, and of Georgian troops lobbing grenades into bomb shelters and basements sheltering women and children. Although true casualty figures are hard to come by, reports that up to 2,000 Ossetians, mostly civilians, were killed are certainly believable, given the intensity of the initial Georgian bombardment, the wanton destruction of the city and surrounding regions and the generally savage nature of Caucasus warfare, a very personal game where old rules apply.

But you don?t hear about this story from the Western media. Indeed, you hear little if anything about the Ossetians, who seem to hardly exist in the West?s eyes, even though their grievance is the root cause of this war.

Today, more details about the discovery of the "Bigfoot" creature will be revealed at a press conference in Palo Alto, California. A picture of the dead Bigfoot -- which looks like a cross between a man and an ape -- has been circulating on the Internet. In the picture, the animal has been stuffed into a freezer and its entrails appear to be extruding from its body, indicating it may have been shot.

Speaking to reporters on the White House lawn, the president outlined proposals to protect the new human-like animal from being harmed by man. Bush recommended swift government action to preserve the creatures he refers to as "the last of the Native American peoples."

"For several hundred years now, the white man has done great harm to the indigenerous peoples of North America," Bush noted. "We must not repeat again those same mistakes a second time. These latest Native American peoples have not come into confliction with white men because they operate primatally at night, while we operate openly more or less in the light of day. These new Indians still live in the woods, whereas we don't because of pathogenetics like Lyme disease. Now it appears that one of us white Caucasian men has shot and killed to death a cretin the civilized Indians call 'Socksquash.' In order to ensure that this does not happen again, I propose the creation of Native American ape reservations, where our fellow savage creatures may roam freely within safely-contained areas and enjoy America like the rest of us do."

But the president said that merely secluding the Bigfoot creatures onto reservations would not be acceptable in today's modern age.

"We must not repeat the mistakes of the past in this new future," Bush warned. "Slaughtering indigenerous peoples and leaving them without any livelihoods is morally repugnacious. We owe them more than that and we will pay. We will not stop continuing until they are capable of supporting themselves without our help or assistance. Then they, too, can feel the pride of living in a country full of freedom and opportunistic behavior -- once they are trained in how to do so, that is."

Bush declined to comment further, citing national security concerns, but said that he was waiting to hear more details from the Bigfoot press conference before deciding what Congress will do next.

Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold opposes border agents searching through Americans' laptops without cause, and he doesn't like how Homeland Security Chief Michael Chertoff articulated the government's current policy in an interview with Threat Level on Monday.

In that conversation, Chertoff said that in practice, border agents rely on a real suspicion to decide whose laptop to look into or even seize, but that he opposes creating a legal standard for searching Americans' electronics at the border since it would just lead to too much litigation.

Feingold, an outspoken civil libertarian -- the only senator to vote against the Patriot Act -- begs to differ.

Secretary Chertoff's description of the newly published DHS policy on laptop searches was not just misleading ? it was flat-out wrong. In an interview with Wired.com, the Secretary stated that "[w]e only do [laptop searches] when we put you into secondary [screening] and we only put you into secondary [screening] ... when there is a reason to suspect something."

But the actual policy that DHS published says the exact opposite. It does not even mention secondary screening, let alone limit laptop searches to those cases, and it expressly states that Americans' laptops may be searched "absent individualized suspicion."      

Secretary Chertoff's blatant mischaracterization of the DHS policy contradicts his claim to be engaging in greater "openness and transparency" on this important issue. His statements make it clearer than ever that as we work to protect our national security, Congress must also act to protect law-abiding Americans against highly intrusive searches.

DHS spokesman Russ Knocke dismissed Feingold's statement, calling it "sour grapes and paranoia from someone who can't accept that even the 9th Circuit ruled that what we're doing is constitutional."

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, considered the most liberal of the appeals circuit, ruled in May that border agents did not need any reason to look through a laptop, reversing a lower court that decided that laptops were closer to extensions of ourselves, than the modern analogue of a suitcase.

I find it very sick nasty.

A Família Savage marca a união de dois dos melhores atores de sua geração, Laura Linney e Philip Seymour Hoffman deixam a tela pesada. Não existe sentimento, por mais simples que seja, que encontra representação simples nestes atores. Tudo sempre leva, como o tema do filme, uma carga gigantesca de força e aqui as piadas não adiantam de nada. O filme continua sempre, até o fim, um relato triste e sombrio sobre os caminhos da vida e da morte.

Lovell said it would be "naive" to think racism didn't play a role in the Tuesday night attack, which police have said began as a case of mistaken identity.

The words of Michael Savage led me to creating another sonic sez (says) video. This time I wanted to contribute to the awareness of Autism. Certainly difficult to understand, a lot of people have misconceptions about what autism is. There is no excuse for what Savage said and my video will hopefully inspire some people to learn about autism. It doesn't have in-depth information, but I think it suffices for a video done on a whim. The definition I use in the video is from http://www.assew.org/what_is_autism.htm. I think i have a little more humor in this one simply because Savage set himself up to be cracked on.
