Apparently, American movie producers made a bet they could remake every single horror film from the 70s and 80s in the next ten years, as a remake of the 1983 not-so-classic The House On Sorority Row will start shotting next month in Pittsburgh.

Retitled simply Sorority Row, the film will star Rumer Willis (The House Bunny), daughter of Bruce Willis (the Die Hard films) and Demi Moore (Mr. Brooks), Jamie Chung (ABC Family's Samurai Girl), Briana Evigan (Step Up 2 The Streets), Audrina Patridge (MTV's The Hills) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia in Star Wars).

In the original film, seven sorority sisters accidentally kill their house mother while playing a prank on her, but decide to hide the body in the pool because they want to have a graduation party before dealing with it. Naturally someone at the party starts killing the girls one by one.

Adapted by screenwriting duo Pete Goldfinger & Josh Stolberg (2 episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender), Sorority Row will change the initial accidental death to one of the sorority sisters rather than the house mother. The film is expected to be rated R in the US and will be directed by Stewart Handler (Whisper).

From the looks of the first film's trailer (above), and its reputation, this remake doesn't have much to live up to and could easily surpass the original. But then again, so could Prom Night and we all know how that turned out.

Fun Fact: The first film's writer/director, Mark Rosman, went to direct 11 episodes of Lizzie McGuire and several Hilary Duff movies...WTF?

I think some of the best moments in a show can be the moment where there are no words and everything

I think some of the best moments in a show can be the moment where there are no words and everything is expressed in a simple smile. I was watching Samurai Girl last night (I missed the live airing but was able to TiVo) and the end, you see her with this slight smile. There were no words, but it seemed to express a lot. It reminded me of the series finale of Buffy when Buffy is asked what it's like to be like everyone else, and all you see is a smile. Knowing back story and how this person has felt and lived...the smile means so much more than words can express.

What's surprising is that it doesn't have to just be in the final moments of a show. I was watching "Family" from Buffy's season five--one of my favorite episodes. In the end, Tara's cousin Beth turns to her and says, "Well, are you happy now?" All you see is Tara's smile. Imagine other shows...other writers... A spiteful yes. An elaborate speech. None of these would nearly have the effect of this smile.

Or there's the more sinister side. Think Neil Patrick Harris' smile as he realizes he should kill Captain Hammer in Dr. Horrible. The realization reads all over his face with no words. Then the song starts. I LOVE that expression. You could see the importance of this moment without hearing a word of it.

Anyway, I just love the smaller details. The slight choices that some of the more brilliant writers--and actors--can do. Really, it just warms my heart sometimes. (Or in Dr. Horrible's case, maybe makes it cold.) Just watch "Family." You'll see.

09-09 : The Children

Maintenant?)

11-09 : Lost in Austen

12-09 : The Secret diary of a call-girl

Mince alors!

Sticky Notes Make For Spectacular Synergy

While the Eepybird team is definitely acknowledged as the ultimate master of combining Diet Coke and

While the Eepybird team is definitely acknowledged as the ultimate master of combining Diet Coke and Mentos for explosive effect, the fact that they didn't originate the art form must make branding somewhat difficult. That, plus a clear desire to be more than a one-trick creator, has driven them to experiment with other media -- which brings us to their most recent inspiration: Post-its.

Wait, no, not Post-its -- non-brand-name sticky notes (though 3M did provide the actual Post-its used for the experiment: 280,951 in total). No matter what you call them, though, the same thing happens when you tip a pad of connected notes (designed for pop-up dispensers) over like a Slinky -- neon-colored magic.

The appeal of the Diet Coke and Mentos experiments was all in the sheer joy of watching soda go "WHOOSH" -- not much was required in terms of execution. Sticky notes are, by design, a simpler medium, but to counterbalance that simplicity this video's production values add a new sophistication to the proceedings. Spectacular Sticky Note Experiment is a triumph of production -- ribbons of color descending from every possible angle, the effect orchestrated beyond performance art by the dynamic cinematography, which utilizes impressive tracking shots and deeply saturated color to create something visually striking, even beautiful.

And it's not just a pretty video -- it's a sponsorship feat. This is the first Eepybird video to indicate explicitly who's holding the purse strings: Samurai Girl stars Jamie Chung and Brendan Fehr participate in the action, and OfficeMax branding provides a not-so-subtle clue as to where you might acquire some sticky notes of your own with which to experiment. The blog Techdirt describes it as "a very entertaining video that doesn't 'trick' anyone, isn't intrusive and still helps 'advertise' a whole variety of different things without being annoying about it." Coca-Cola is also a sponsor, despite none of their products being used -- you can't blame them for wanting to join in on the fun.

Spectacular Sticky Note Experiment is oddly reminiscent of those music videos for songs from movie soundtracks, in which the actors appear along with the band to make the cross-promotion at work clear. But how did Samurai Girl, the 6-hour miniseries during which Spectacular Sticky Notes Experiment premiered (marking the first time a online video has premiered first on television), get involved?

According to Eepybird founder Fritz Grobe, it comes down to synergy: The ads were produced by DigiSynd, a Disney-owned company that made the hook-up between Eepybird and ABC Family. "ABC Family was looking to do something innovative to promote Samurai Girl," Grobe said via email, "and when they saw our test footage of the sticky note experiments, they liked it!" Simple enough. It's still not clear what connection we are supposed to draw between the experiment and Samurai Girl's tale of an adopted heiress training in martial arts to fight the Yakuza and fulfill an ancient prophecy. But Chung and Fehr's enthusiastic aping of the traditional Eepybird post-experiment stance is delightful all the same.

Eepybird assures viewers that whatever sticky notes can be reused are, but let's just hope the notes being used are at least 50 percent post-consumer recycled. Artists should suffer for their art, but trees shouldn't.

Stumbled with this really fun ad in a blog post from Marshable.Three Minutes and Nineteen seconds of colorful and joyfun, that actually made me curious about the product, and wonder whether we have them here in Brazil. It worked. And they did include websites in some moments of the ad, so we can follow through, which I've yet to do.

OK, most of times, advertisers only get 30-seconds to send in their message, but the message is mostly empty if you can't reach your intended audience. But in the era of Tivo, DVRs, or even the old VHS from years ago and other things of such, allow people to skip those ads, but what if you can make someone who`s fart forwarding through the commercial break, stop and rewind, and then rewind again. Think about it.

Oh, the guys from EepyBird must be credited for the experiment. http://eepybird.com/

I think I found my new TV crush. Well, not really the girl from Samurai girl rocks. Granted, I think she looks like a younger version of one of my relatives, which is kinda sick come to think of it. Damn why do us Asians look alike?! *sigh* At any rate, aside from the slight flaw, and the show's uber cheesiness at times, I think it's worth watching. There are three characters that are pivotal to the plot. The main character (the one that reminds me of my relative). The cute sidekick with blond hair that reminds me of Chloe from smallville. And the ex fiance of this one dude who looks like a model. I don't really watch shows unless I'm doing post processing work. That's where dual monitors are a joy to have. One is playing a movie/show, while the other one is um...'working'...yeah that's it.

In other related news. Booy do I hate windows Vista. I must hand it to Gates. I think he single handedly sold more macs and linux boxes than any commercial ever can. My mom got a new laptop. It takes 3 bloody gigs of ram to even power that thing, and it's sluggish and retarded. I wanted to throw it out the window...really I wanted to wipe it clean and put my XP pro on it. But, laziness got the better of me. That would require me to take it offline, blah blah blah...and she just got it, so I don't want to mess with it at the moment. But I refuse to by another machine with Vista for myself. I think I'd rather get my spleen taken out. So useless...

Today I went to my parents place, and my dad and I took a trip to Costco. Well he drove, and we picked up an air conditioning unit for him. Ahh..the Asian Gene. See, he already collects air conditioners. As a matter of fact, their place has central air, plus he has a few window units. However, since costco has a 'SALE' on this one AC unit for 59.99 he just couldn't resist. It's like every cell in his body compelled him to go to Costco to purchase yet another air conditioning unit. I oblige and went to buy it for him. I mean, who can resist an old man who just wants a few more toys. I asked myself that very same question...gee, I already have 4 cameras, why on earth would I need another one? Alas, with that line of reasoning I decided not to question the insanity of my dad's purchase.

One Tree Hil – Essa sim é a Malhação americana. Dramalhão mexicano de marca maior. Serve como ultima opção de entretenimento.

House – Envolvente e impactante.

How I Met Your Mother - Comédia marota e sagaz.

Two and a Half Men – Comédia de maior sucesso entre os norte-americanos.

A segunda temporada estava deprimente.

Cold Case – Roteiro bem amarrado.

Samantha Who?

wow, i totally had the best onion rings at Sonic(s?) today. some drive-in place that i was totally fascinated with because i've never been in a drive-in before... seattle doesn't have one does it? i mean, Dick's is a drive-in but you don't get food delivered to you..

so i'm watching Samurai Girl on ABC Family (yes, go ahead and laugh) and there was this scene that totally made me say "wow, i've heard that before". it was a part where the guy is like "you could always choose me" or something (he likes the girl) and she just responds "you're nice *pats his cheek*". she leaves and he mutter under his breath "just a nice guy..." in a melancholy tone that absolutely make me wonder.

do nice guys never get girls?

which is totally the topic of a mini-movie that the amazing wong fu productions made. if you haven't seen it, here's the first part.

what the hell is wrong with nice guys? i mean, they're better than the jackass narcissists that some girls end up with. the first thought that popped into my head as that nice guys are cowards. they're nice and because of that, their spineless and let themselves get pushed around.

but since when has being nice a turnoff? it's so puzzling. guys would want a nice girl because the opposite of a nice girl would be a bitch. but when you reverse it, it goes against the age old traditional gender roles right? girls are suppose to be nice and whatnot while guys who are nice, end up being considered wussies.

now ain't that weird.

you know, no matter how much you want a bad boy. he might not be there when you need him the mos. but the nice guy will. it's just noticing that the nice guy really like you and is not just being nice to you that's the hard part. er... i guess the nice guy should be the one to assert his feelings.

but...nice guys...don't get assertive..

& we're back to square one.

[oh yea, it's chemistry.]

Ok, the name need some work. But the show is based on Carrie Asai Samurai Girl series of books. The books them selves do have better titles, such as, The Book of the Shadow and The Book of the Heart etc.

ABC Family seems to have been doing something right this past year. They have the summers highest rated show in The Secret Life of an American Teenager, they have another rating grabbing show in Greek coming back, they have the highly acclaimed Lincoln Heights, and other notable shows like The Middleman, and Kyle XY. And now they have Samurai Girl.

Samurai Girl is a six part TV mini series airing on ABC Family this weekend. It is about a nineteen year old girl, who at four was the sole survivor of a plane crash and was nickname Heaven by the media and then was later adopted by a wealthy and powerful Japanese family. The story start with Heaven (Jamie Chung, Dragonball) on her way to San Francisco for an arranged marriage to her fathers' business partners son. Heaven is hesitant to marry someone she does not love, but before she can go through the whole process, ninjas attack the wedding reception in an attempt to abduct Her. That's right, ninjas! Lucky for Heaven, her brother Hiko who had run away from home a year ago and was not invited to the wedding shows up out of no where and rescues her, but not before loosing his life. This is where the adventure of revenge, curiosity, and love begins, as Heaven must now learn how to become a Samurai to avenge her brother's death by finding his killer and why he died.

I know it sounds a bit cheesy, but believe me when I say that once you get past the first 15 minutes, you'll get sucked in the story. If you are looking for an all out kung fu movie, then this might not be your cup of tea. This is still ABC Family. The action is decent, but it is a little toned down for its' viewer. The plot and story line are good, you'll want to know what happen next and why things are happening the way they are. The show also does a good job at pacing the story along, so you won't get bored. The love story however need some work, but then again, I don't think that is why people are going to be watching this series.

I'll be looking forward to watching the last part of this series on Sunday. If you haven't watched any of episodes yet, don't worry. ABC Family will be airing all the previous episode before they show the final two episode and you can always catch them on their web site.

So. I saw the trailers for ABC Family’s miniseries “Samurai Girl” a few weeks ago

So. I saw the trailers for ABC Family's miniseries "Samurai Girl" a few weeks ago and thought that a miniseries about a quirky samurai girl fighting crime might not be great television, but at least it would be fun.

I had no idea.

I watched the first two episodes (of 3?) today and here's the plotline so far. Be warned; it makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER.

This is the story of a girl named Heaven. No, she's not a prostitute. Apparently "it sounds different in Japanese."

Yyyyeaaah.

Anyway, Heaven is the beloved adopted daughter of a Yakuza boss, named so because as an infant she was the sole survivor of a plane crash. I dunno, maybe she fell out of the sky when the plan exploded, hence "Heaven." Heaven's older brother leaves Japan for San Francisco and, a year later, she goes to SanFran to be married to the son of her father's business rival, whose name is inexplicable Teddy. Man, those invites must have looked really strange: We request your presence at the blessed nuptials of Heaven and Teddy. YES. Well, it's an arranged marriage, she feels trapped, she runs away to join the Chinese army, whatever. Well, not to worry, she won't have to marry Teddy after all, because her wedding is broken up by NINJAS. That's right, ninjas. Her brother saves her life, only to be tragically stabbed in the frozen food pantry of a San Francisco hotel. BY A NINJA. The brother tells Heaven to find Jake, his best friend, which she does. Naturally, she's in some great danger- I wasn't paying attention because Jake's a Hottie McHottHott. He is also a blonde-haired, blue-eyed sensei. Jake trains Heaven in the ways of the samurai in a series of inspiring training montages on a beach.

Alls I'm saying is that I'd paint the fence for him any day of the week. Wax on, wax off, please.

After finding her inner samurai, Heaven meets a British spy in the grocery store who has been stalking watching her for the last few weeks, because her dead brother was one of his informants on the Yakuza. Secret Agent Man recruits her to take down her father's crime gang from the inside, with quirky sidekicks Cheryl and Otto and a host of gadgets. Radio-transmitter cufflinks, computer Rolex, the whole nine yards. Otto loves Heaven, but Heaven loves Jake. Cheryl is there for comic relief and says very snarky things.

Oh yeah, and Heaven is also the fulfillment of a centuries-old prophecy involving mystical artifacts, Indiana Jones, and the wrath of the Nazis gods. She's got telekinetic powers too. And a truckload of unresolved sexual tension with her sensei/dead brother's best friend Jake, whose ex-fianceé Stacy Keibler may or may not be working for the Yakuza, the Nazis, or the Antichrist.

The second episode ended with Heaven rappelling up a mountain somewhere in the Sierra Madre to find one of the magical...Japanese...artifacts. Silence, logical people. She's accompanied by her not-lover Jake and the creepy British spy, who really has no reason to be there. Anyway, cliff hangar! Hanging from a cliff!

AMAZING. It's like ABC Family wanted to make three different miniseries but only had funding for one. If there are no aliens, time travel, or cowboys in Part Three, I will be very, very disappointed.

A look at new and returning shows on TV tonight:

Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? (FOX) 8pm
The FOX game show returns tonight with a two hour episode featuring model Kathy Ireland testing her smarts against the precocious middle-schoolers.

Samurai Girl (ABC Family) 8pm
The mini-series is based on a series of young adult novels by Carrie Asai. The story follows Heaven Kogo, the adopted daughter of a Japanese crime boss, who tries to find her brother's murderer while uncovering the mysteries of her own past. Parts 1 & 2 of the six part series airs tonight and stars Jamie Chung (Greek, Days of Our Lives) and Brendan Fehr (CSI: Miami, Roswell).

Monk (USA) 9pm
Monk airs its milestone 100th episode tonight. The episode will see the return of a number criminals and characters that Monk has encountered during his career. Guest stars include: Sarah Silverman as Marci Maven, Monk's obsessive #1 fan, Jon Tuturro as Monk's severely agoraphobic brother Ambrose Monk, Howie Mandel as former cult leader "Father" Ralph Roberts, and Sharon Lawrence as Capt. Stottlemeyer's ex-girlfriend Linda Fusco. The latter two are convicted murders that Monk helped capture.

Psych (USA) 10pm
Detective series Psych also returns from its Olympic-induced hiatus tonight. Faux-psychic Shawn and his partner-in-crime solving Gus assist in a case involving a string of robberies connected to a local roller derby.

Stargate Atlantis (SCIFI) 10pm
The SG-1 spinoff keeps trucking along tonight with more intergalactic adventuring. Sorry, this show's just not my bag, baby. I'm at a loss to explain it's longevity. But this is the network that saw fit to make us suffer through an entire season of Flash Boredom, er, I mean, Gordon.

Samurai's didn't fly. Does Chinese Warrior Girl not have the same ring? And maybe it's strictly just a numbers thing, but getting Chinese/Korean people playing Japanese roles is probably the first sign the show is going to mix and match cultures. Yay for an educational entertaining (?) family time.

Not much to say about Samurai Girl the new mini series from ABC Family. What I will say is that when I see a hot girl doing martial arts and there's Ninjas, I'm there!

I'm not sure about the whole being trained by a reject from Beverly Hills 90210 (yes I know he was the dude in Roswell but the Beverly Hills thing was funnier). There best be some old wise master in there some where to train here or ABC Family will be getting a few harsh words from me (and maybe some Ninjas).

I spent this past weekend at home after finally quitting my second job and allowing myself some free time to enjoy the summer. Since I don't have a television in NYC, I switch into full TV-watching-couch-potato mode when I come home. While being glued to Phelps’s 8th-Gold-winning Olympic race, I saw a preview for the new ABC Family "Original Event" (read: miniseries) called "Samurai Girl." Based on the book series of the same name, the title character is 19-year-old Heaven, who discovers that her wealthy, Japanese adopted father is involved with both the Yakuza and her brother’s murder. Some ancient-prophesying and samurai-training later, she takes on the Japanese mafia in legend-fulfilling-samurai force. Or, so I’ve gathered from reading various synopses.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="440" caption="Jamie Chung (from Greek & Real World) = the Samurai Girl"][/caption]

It's always refreshing to see Asian/Asian-American actors on TV: Sandra Oh on Grey's Anatomy; B.D. Wong on Law & Order: SVU; the Korean couple in Lost; Lucy Liu in, um, lots of things. (And no, that random Asian girl on Gossip Girl doesn't count because all she does is give scornful looks in time with Blair Waldorf/Leighton Meester). Margaret Cho had a show in 1994 (“All American Girl”) about her Korean-American family but it was cancelled early on.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Look, it's B.D. Wong!"][/caption]

I’m all for Asians becoming more visible on screen (more AZN celebs/role models, plz!), though it’s a bit annoying that the “Samurai Girl” storyline has to involve ancient prophesies and a martial arts/samurai theme. Also, did I mention Heaven’s sensei is a white guy (her brother’s friend) who she more than likely falls in love with? That makes sense, though, considering there are plenty of white male/Asian female couples these days (um, guilty). But as long as there isn’t another “wax on, wax off” scene, I’d much rather see “Samurai Girl” kicking ass on screen than the usual “Happy Ending Girl” fulfilling creepy men’s fantasies.

I have a new interview with Stacy Keibler at The Trades in which she discusses her role in the upcoming ABC Family mini-series, Samurai Girl (airing Sept. 5-7).

With the NFL pre-season starting, I thought it would be interesting to share a portion of my chat with Stacy that didn’t make it into the article in which she talked about being a Ravens fan. As many of you may know, Stacy is a Baltimore native and a former Ravens cheerleader. "The first season that I knew I wasn’t going to be a cheerleader, I bought season tickets," she told me. "I own my seats, and I go home for at least one game, if not more, every year."

As a die-hard Steelers fan, I don’t usually give much love to division rivals, but for someone as genuinely nice as Stacy Keibler I can make an exception!
