Well the title give's it away. I've finished the 2nd installment of the "Life Simplified" series.

Why "Kiss me" you might ask?

Well simply put, I think everyone wants and needs to be kissed and to kiss. Thus, "Kiss me".

I must admit, I'm enjoying how sensual these pieces are turning out. Of course they're even better in person.

The camera just doesn't capture the richness of tones or texture that's in each piece. See, this is why you should buy or commission one ;)

Anyway, here it is.

And because I think it's only fitting, here are a few videos to get you in the mood to go kiss someone.

#1 Des'ree "Kissing You"

Well that's all for now. I'm hoping to get another one done tomorrow.

So go kiss someone already ;)

Cheers,

hey :)
soooo, it's been a ridiculously long time since i last posted a blog....sorry about that that's disgraceful of me to fall so early on in the game
i don't think anyone's really reading these yet [if you are feel free to comment] so i should probably get around to doing some more flagrant publicising on some happy little forums :)
okay i've used the ":)" twice in 5 lines, that's a bad sign *hangs head in shame*

today i went to see The Dark Knight, which was fantastic. heath ledger was amazing in it, and i thought gary oldman was brilliant, as was morgan freeman. really, i loved it.
i'm such a film geek, i only realised recently; my last blog was just me rambling about films.
my brother and his girlfriend are staying at the moment and we watched the baz luhrmann version of romeo and juliet, which i'd forgotten how much i liked, it's so beautiful and probably one of the best modernised shakespeares i've ever seen. i know loads of people shy away from modernised shakespeares, but i think that if they're done well and thoroughly, then they are incredible, because there's always a way that the storylines still relate to the modern day, but presenting it in the modern setting makes it so much more obvious and easier to draw parallels between, i love that.
okay....rambling on and on here, oh well. must point out though i DO love the traditional play of romeo and juliet, it's still incredibly beautiful and timeless etc etc

*thinks* what else has been going on in my world?
hmm, well i've dyed my hair red. it's pretty faded now mind, but yeah :)

i have a load more i should say, but it's late and i can't remember, so i'll post again soon

"Read o'er the volume of young Paris' face
And find delight writ there with beauty's pen.
Examine every married lineament
And see how one another lends content;
And what obscured in this fair volume lies,
Find written in the margent of his eyes.
This precious book of love, this unbound lover,
To beautify him only lacks a cover.
The fish lives in the sea; and 'tis much pride
For fair without the fair within to hide.
That book in many's eyes doth share the glory
That in gold clasps locks in the golden story.
So shall you share all that he doth possess,
By having him, making yourself no less."

Maybe it was because all of the plays that my school chose to be the required reading for English cl

Maybe it was because all of the plays that my school chose to be the required reading for English classes happen to be the ones that were unbelievably annoying, but I did not enjoy Shakespeare very much during my high school years.

Let's start with freshman year. Maybe it didn't help that my English teacher was a bit... loony and passive-aggressive. We were forced to read Romeo & Juliet or at least the ones in the normal English class. The honors English classes got to read Julius Caesar, which I am told is one of Shakespeare's greatest and there were a few that expressed that they did enjoy it.

First off, I believe English classes tend to kill anything in the required reading. Being forced to read something is not something very appealing to anyone. In addition, there is also the tendency that overexcited English teachers make their students overanalyze every single word. That kinda kills the magic of reading critically and finding things out for oneself at a leisurely pace without the badgering of a crazed person using grades as a threat incentive.

To start off, Romeo & Juliet was most definitely not one of Shakespeare's greatest works. I don't care what anyone says, I find the main characters to be whiny and overly hormonal teenagers who need a good smack in the face. I don't understand the connotation of Romeo being the poster boy of romance, when he was really a whiny brat who is in dire need of common sense. Seriously? Falling in love lust with someone whom you have met five seconds ago and then running off to get married. That's not love, that's just an inability to keep one's trousers on.

Yes, it's a tragedy that is supposed to be some sort of lesson to use your brain and common sense. But is there anyone really that stupid? Wait... don't answer that question.

The next year, most of the students were forced to read MacBeth. This one I didn't mind too much and I don't really remember any sort of aggravation associated with that particular play.

There wasn't any required Shakespeare reading for my junior year, but instead we were forced to read more John Steinbeck and to say the least I would have been more than willing to go back to Romeo & Juliet than read any novels by Steinbeck ever again. Even though I had a very awesome English teacher, it was the most painful thing we ever read... actually, no that's a lie. We read many painful things that year.

And finally senior year. I was fortunate enough to have another amazing English teacher... not so fortunate to be forced to read Hamlet. I believe Shyaporn of YouTube sums up my feelings about Hamlet quite nicely:

Hamlet - Emo Prince of Denmark. But less painful than Lord of the Flies that was part of the required reading that year.

Tillbaka efter midsommarledigheten med en filmrecension.

Tillbaka efter midsommarledigheten med en filmrecension.

The Happening av M. Night Shyamalan.

Shyamalan har gjort filmer som "Sjätte sinnet", "Unbreakabel", "Lady in the water", "The village" och "Signs".

Betyg: AA

Idén är så pass bra att trots filmen suger så måste den få två A:n.

Singer, songwriter and ace guitarist Mark Knopfler is the impressive sum of several very appealing parts. His voice is a smoky mixture of Bob Dylan's acidic whine, Tom Waits' tubercular snore and JJ Cale's breathy, marbles-in-the-mouth whisper. He writes such songs as "Sultans of Swing" and "Once upon a Time in the West" with the cinematic flair of Bruce Springsteen, the hall-of-mirrors imagery of classic Dylan and the slashing thrusts of Neil Young's bayonetlike realism. Finally, Knopfler's guitar style is a shotgun wedding of jazzy chording and harmonic tangents descended from Django Reinhardt and Wes Montgomery, the no-nonsense electric blues of BB King, Jimi Hendrix' string-bending sensuality and James Burton's country-pop sheen.

Guitar freaks who genuflected over every riff on Dire Straits and Communiqué may be disappointed at what seems like a shortage of raveup Knopfler solos on Making Movies. There are a few (in "Tunnel of Love" and "Solid Rock"), but the beauty of the artist's current playing is that each note and phrase is woven into the fabric of the tales he tells. Unlike the other LPs, this one boasts songs, not solos.

More important, Making Movies is the record on which Mark Knopfler comes out from behind his influences and Dire Straits come out from behind Mark Knopfler. The combination of the star's lyrical script, his intense vocal performances and the band's cutting-edge rock & roll soundtrack is breathtaking–everything the first two albums should have been but weren't. If Making Movies really were a film, it might win a flock of Academy Awards. (RS 336)

My interest in literature lately has been monumentally high. In this case, I have only to blame John Green's Looking For Alaska for keeping me so intertwined in its riveting story and cerebral plot. I highly, highly recommend this book to anyone; even though it's a proclaimed young adult novel, anyone can get into it. I suppose the only disadvantage, however, is being twenty-some-odd years old and reading about such jouvenile high-school-esque activities. Though, really, it's freaking fantastic, so I went ahead and ordered An Abundance of Katherines from Amazon (his other book).

I'm also nearing the end of the school year (yaaaay), which means more end of the year projects that have to be turned in to get final grades up to a respectable GPA. I'm fucking bored, though, and want to just finish this bullshit. I have a couple projects, one involving a ridiculously atrocious organization method and another dealing with Romeo & Juliet.

I'm gonna go read, I forgot how annoying it is to remember school.

While riding in the car today, I turned on our local classical station, Blue Lake Public Radio. With the lovely spring trees budding out my window, the William Tell overture began to play. I got teary-eyed...love the power of Rossini!

Then, Romeo and Juliet by Tchaikovsky. I played this years ago in my high school orchestra and it is amazing how the memory of the violin positions comes right back. Here is a link to hear Romeo and Juliet from the Peabody Institute. Enjoy!

Lovely music day!

This is one band I like very much. They came from Sweden, met in a small town named Jonkoping. If you never heard them before, listen to this one I'm recommending. The song is entitled Been It, the music is so fine, and the lyrics ain't so hard.

You still don't have a clue? Try this:
Ever watch Baz Luhrmann's "Romeo & Juliet" before? The one with Leonardo DiCaprion in it. You *must* know "Love Fool" then! It's their hits during those years.

The vocalist (Nina Persson) giving the band her vocal presence just the way I adore it. But not like all other "female-voiced", this one really come with great interplay between members. So totally, they are one of the kind.

I am mad crazy in love with books. Books!!! When I was in grade school, and bed time would roll around (this was about 8p.m.), I would pull out my pink book light, and read books late into the night. My mom would catch me from time to time and yell out "Kelly Quinn, go to bed!"

To which I would defiantly reply, "But Mo-om!!! I'm reading! I bet tons of parents just WISH that they could yell at their kids for reading too much!"

Yes, I was a real rebel back then.

Fast forward to a high school graduation with honors, two B.A.'s from the University of Iowa in four years, an undergraduate teaching position with the department chair, and a job at the largest independently held commercial real estate firm in the world. Hmmm...something tells me that reading late into the night wasn't so bad for me after all. :)

I've gotten off track and slighly vain- sorry. My point is this: I love to read and to share my love of books with others. Here are a few of my personal favorites:

"Dress your family in courduroy and denim" by David Sedaris (hilarious)
"Naked" by David Sedaris (so freakin' ridiculously hilarious)
"Kitchen Confidential" by Anthony Bourdain (I will never again order eggs benedict)
"Dirt" the memoir of Motley Crue (Fitz STILL has my copy)
"The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold (a tearjerker)
"Lucky" by Alice Sebold (even more tears with this one)
"Smashed" by Koren Zailckas (frightening)
"He's just not that into you" by Greg Beherendt (funny and insightful)
"Where the Sidewalk Ends" by Shel Silverstein (my childhood fave)
"Romeo & Juliet" by William Shakespeare (a beautiful, tragic love story)
"The Firm" by John Grisham (I love suspense- can easily recommend 40 other Grisham books)
"Murder in Brentwood" by Mark Furhman (I am a huge forensics nerd and love true crime stories)
"Beautiful Boy" by David Sheff (true story about a father who's son is addicted to methamphetamines)
"It's not about the bike" by Lance Armstrong (inspiring)
"Ultra Marathon Man" by Dean Karnazes (makes you want to run and run and run some more!)
"She's come undone" by Wally Lamb (touching)
"Wins, Losses, and Lessons" by Lou Holtz (just brilliant)

I could list about 900 more. As I'm sure you can tell, I read a myriad of different books. I typically stick to nonfiction, as I have always believed that everyone has a story to share with the world, but occasionally I will venture out. I am currently reading about five different books- a financial book by Suze Orman (from my mom), Eat/Pray/Love (an Oprah book club pick that I loaned out), Memoirs of a Geisha, a true crime book about the murder case of JonBenet Ramsey, and Tweak (the brother book to "Beautiful Boy").

So why did I pick today to discuss my love of literature and words?! Because today was a busy day! I am laughing like a school girl right now because growing up, my little sister had a book called "Busy Day," in which cats were dressed up as peasants and had to do a bunch of weird chores like dishes, sweeping, laundry on a washboard, etc. Now that I think of it, any chore is weird for a cat. But I LOVE animals in people clothes. I could laugh all day about it. So I did a google search to see if I could find "Busy Day" and low and behold...

There is always moments that are worth of sore feet and aching legs. To summarize a few on our trip

There is always moments that are worth of sore feet and aching legs. To summarize a few on our trip so far:

1. The roof of Duomo in Milano. Milano's cathedral is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and it is massive indeed. From inside, it is just another Gothic church - just with a bit bigger columns. But when you get to the roof of it, that is heaven. Am not talking about any religious experience of mine, but I just cant help myself of thinking about all the craftsmen who dedicated their lives - sometimes literally - to build these massive and beautiful monuments. On the roof, you can easily see all the lace of marble carvings and statues, all the delicate details and skill of the craftsmanship and sculpting. In 14th century, those were not meant to be shown to mortal eyes. That was their best gift to give on a hope of afterlife.

2. Castello Sforzesco in Milano. Paintings and other stuff is naturally interesting, but somehow the biggest experience was the museum of musical instruments. We were lucky to be present just when an expert was testing the claviercembalos. (Oh, it seems to be harpsichord in English - i learned a new word...) Baroque music somehow brought the castle alive and it felt like there would have been shadowy figures dancing in the corners of eyes. Maybe there were.

3. Verona. Shakespeare obviously never went to Verona but he managed to got at least something right: there is lots of larks singing. Juliet's "tomb" is situated in the old Capuchin convent outside the town walls. The empty and open sarcophagus itself is quite unimpressive. The garden outside, on the other hand, has some sort of authentic feeling of lost love and sorrow with its mossed statues and cypresses. Larks singing, and the misty mountain tops in horizon.

Says Romeo:

"It was the lark, the herald of the morn,
No nightingale: look, love, what envious streaks
Do lace the severing clouds in yonder east:
Night's candles are burnt out, and jocund day
Stands tiptoe on the misty mountain tops.
I must be gone and live, or stay and die."

-Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet (act 3 scene 5)

4. Scrovegni Chapel in Padova. Giotto, my Giotto. Giotto's paintings on the chapel inside walls was one of my absolute favourites in art history classes. Getting in the chapel was an hard task - seems to be protected as well as crown jewels. No wonder, the simple chapel is like a box of jewels from inside. It is unbelievable to imagine how people had felt in 1305 to see these paintings - they had used to see static Byzantine and Gothic paintings of humans, not this flesh and blood with gestures and feelings on their face. The tears rolling down of the mothers' face, the gossiping people around Josef and Mary on their way, astonishment of the shepherds... And everything absolutely 3-dimensional, especially the clothes which you could almost touch. From where he got the idea of paint like this? No one did that before and not even after him for almost 200 years. Beats me. Amazing guy.

But enough art, am gonna go to drink some wine. Hippies have stolen my husband to the kitchen, God knows what bacchanals they are having there... with Will Smith movie.
