From now on, the Friday Indie Retailer spots are going to be dedicated to revisiting stores we've featured before to see what new products they've created since we last checked in on them.

Anderson Soap Co.

Last Featured: March 8, 2008

The first time I wrote about the Anderson Soap Co., I focused on the bars he makes from beer. I bought two of the beer bars for my grandfather for his birthday and he loved him so much he was telling his dentist about them. The Guinness and Sam Adams bars had a strong, interesting smell (in a good way) but I can't attest to how they are in use because my grandfather wouldn't let anyone touch them. He probably has them sitting on a plate in a place of honor.

For this Revisit, I decided to feature products that Dennis Anderson creates that aren't bar soaps. He's still rocking out the new soaps, though, so be sure to check his store.

Cool Watermelon Bliss Bear Bubble Bath, 8 oz bottle for $7.50

Other scents available: Cotton Candy, Banana, Fruity Loops, Buff Naked, Orange Creamsicle

Eco-Earthy Scents Solid Perfume (Vegan), 0.5 oz for $4.50

Scents: Orchard of Bliss (pictured- Tangerine and Bergamot), Amber Essence, Lost in Paradise (tropical flowers and island fruits), Green Apple, Frangipani (Plumeria), Burnt Sugar, Cotton Candy, Silent Meadow (Sandalwood and Jasmine), Rainforest Blend (Coriander and Peppermint), The Secret Garden (Lavender and Mint)

A tube of this lip balm came with my soap purchase and it is really good. I'm very picky about what lip stuff I wear (mostly because I have a habit of chewing on my lip), but this had a nice smell and texture, didn't taste bad when I eventually ingested some of it and did the trick for moisturizing.

Luscious Lip Balm, $2.50

Scents: Pumpkin Spice (pictured), Coconut, Banana, Creme Brulee, Cherry Vanilla, Cafe Latte, Oregon Strawberry, Blackberry, Limeaide, Mango, Zesty Coco and Mint

As taken straight from the official Beatnix Myspace blog.

Beatnix Coffee House to Close Saturday

7/23/2008 / Waco, Texas

This Saturday, July 26th, will be the final day that Beatnix Coffee
House opens its doors to the public. A "Closing Bash" will be held,
featuring performances by local musicians.

Beatnix's owner announced on Wednesday the closing of the coffee house
and cultural venue at 1826 Lake Shore Drive, due to poor economic
conditions and lack of capital for expansion.

Opened in 2005 by Penney Simpson, Todd Millerd, and Sandra Hapenney,
Beatnix quickly became known not only for its gourmet coffee and
sandwiches, but as a haven for poetry, art, and music. It was awarded
the Music Association of Central Texas' Groovy Award for Non-Club Venue
of the Year in both 2007 and 2008.

Simpson said "Beatnix has been my dream, and I had so many plans for it,
ways that it could be a gathering place and creative spark for Waco's
culture. But it had to move and grow in order to survive, and our
attempts to find investors or purchasers for the business have all
proved to be dead ends."

Beatnix Coffee House will be open for normal business through Saturday.
On Saturday evening, it will hold a final "Closing Bash" at 6 pm, with
local musicians performing on stage for the last time.

Lack of capital for expansion? Was the business failing, or has it just been stagnant too long?

In any case, nobody ever likes to hear of a shop closing. As a coffee professional, I can't help but be curious as to why it happens. Each case is different, and it's often, though not always, due to failing financially. (or being marooned by the city *coughtpanthercitycough*)

What good is a Groovy Award if it can't save your business? It must be defective!

Thanks to Badger for the tip.

Poketo is a unique company that helps artists get their works translated to accessible materials and out into the world. That's a fancy way of saying they put graphics created by some of the world's best artist's on vinyl wallets, t shirts, accessories, paper goods and household items. I decided to focus on the vinyl wallets since they're a popular subject for Moue readers. The name of the artist is included in the product name. The pictures show the wallets expanded- they fold in half before going into your pocket.

THESE WILL HURT FEELINGS and generate hate towards you if you wear them. Beware!!! What you are looking at are the AJF's from the Wine and Grind pack which at this point have been released in Paris only and 155 were made. So best believe cats will look at your feet and saying, "Them joints is fake. I've never seen that colorway before." F'em. Let them hate. Do like Maino kid. The only way to scoop these is to check over at World Store NYC. If your not from NY don't worry they take email and phone orders and you know there are only 1 or 2 pair in a 13. Tell them we sent you. Don't get hyped It won't get your ass a discount or anything but they will know what size your looking for.

I received an email from Jonathan A. at White Rock Coffee letting us know about this place near the heart of Dallas.

Jonathan writes,

Just wanted to let you know about a new independent shop in the DFW area. Crooked Tree Coffeehouse opened about a month ago in Dallas' uptown area, at 2414 Routh Street. It's in a pretty "hip" area of town- a residential neighborhood rezoned for business. It's nice to find a coffeeHOUSE in a big city. Cozy location, comfortable furniture, live music is very intimate but can get kind of crowded (no actual stage, just set up in the corner). The owners and baristas are VERY passionate about coffee. They make some great espresso drinks, and also serve your usual fare of teas, chai, smoothies and pastries. All of their coffee comes from a company in Colorado Springs called Bywell, and it's all Fairtrade organic. You can find there website at crookedtreecoffeehouse.com.

Cool! The last time I visited a House converted into a coffee retailer was at Common Grounds in Waco.

Has anyone else visited this place?

Thanks for the heads up, Jonathan.

I recently gave my cousin's young son the "Disney lied to you" talk where I explained that hippos aren't nearly as friendly as Walt and friends like to perpetuate. They're less about the dancing and more about the biting in real life.

One of the best-kept secrets in the online shopping world is the use of promotional coupons. Promoti

One of the best-kept secrets in the online shopping world is the use of promotional coupons. Promotional coupons are codes that companies send out for discounts, freebies (free items) and price reductions off of various products. To use the coupon code, enter in the code in the check out area. Merchandisers use these codes for promotional purposes, and send them to select, targeted groups of individuals that have signed up for the company mailing list, or perhaps have purchased from them previously. But what is the best way to receive coupon or promo codes?

www.dailynewdeals.com allow you to print coupons from your computer. You can use these coupons in your local grocery stores and big box stores to help you save money. Using IP (internet printable) coupons combined with store coupons, and coupons from the Sunday paper allow me to save anywhere from 50 – 75% on my grocery bill each week! You can register to receive new coupon notifications via email as well! Your store will then email you their weekly specials and special customer coupons!

Many people do not realize that grocery stores will email (and sometimes send paper coupons via regular postal delivery) their customers store coupons (which you can use with manufacturer coupons). By registering on their site, and having the store discount card, you can save a lot of money!

The easiest way to receive coupon codes for online stores such as amazon.com, BestBuy.com or even staples.com is to register on their website to subscribe to their mailing list. Companies often only send coupon codes to those who are on their mailing list, or have purchased from the store previously. So when you are shopping online, or even if there is a particular store you like shopping from, look to see if you can receive a mailing list or email newsletter. These will often have coupons and discount codes for future purchases!

In addition to the coupon codes you can receive in your email, there is another way to find coupon codes. Sites such as www.dailynewdeals.com compile promotional codes from various retailers and put them on an easy to use site. The site is updated daily, so you don’t have to try and find the most recent coupon code!

Being patient will allow you to get great online shopping deals! With patience and taking a few minutes to find discount codes, every online shopper can find great bargains!

July 17, 2028 — Traditional online stores have been scrambling to match the success of BeamEx, which in just five years has become the nation’s largest retailer by teleporting goods directly to consumers.

The Seattle-based company now stands ahead of both Amazon and WalKMart in terms of total annual sales. BeamEx was the first Web-based retailer to provide on-demand online purchasing, allowing consumers to order any item online and have it immediately “beamed” into their living rooms.

Amazon, WalKMart and other retailers have badly stumbled in their forays into on-demand teledelivery, prompting more and more consumers to migrate to BeamEx for shopping. Many BeamEx copycats have been plagued by a variety of delivery problems, including molecularly incomplete deliveries and botched orders.

For example, Isabella Ringen, an Ames, Ia. widow, said she placed an order on Amazon for a new wind chime for her front porch, but instead received a six-month supply of condoms. And Carl Bonate, a Florida State University sophomore, said he ordered a six-pack of cola that was delivered to his lap with the bottoms of the cans missing, resulting in soda spilling all over his pants.

Retail analysts say traditional stores are victims of their own complacency, allowing BeamEx to perfect the teleportation model and establish a huge market lead. And renowned personal injury lawyer Chase M. Bulance warns that stores such as Amazon are exposing themselves to civil suits if they don’t rectify their delivery problems.

“It’s only a matter of time,” Bulance says, “until a little old lady orders a hot cup of coffee that comes with the bottom of the container missing.”

I received an email a few days ago from Lon Hart letting us know about their roasting operation in Austin. Lon writes,

Please add me to the list of roaster on this site. We are located in Cedar Park(austin).

We have been suppling Central Texas with fresh roasted coffee for over 5 years now. We see the need to educate shops and barista's on the basics of coffee and espresso in our area. Too many time do we visit shops in the area and the barista's have no clue on basic technics...which tells us their training was poor. Our focus over the next couple years will be to offer free training since the shop owners dont seem to have the time or even care to show anyone how to pull an average shot.

thanks, Lonn Hart

Their website, admitedly, needs some work, but that never stopped anyone from roasting coffee to perfection. I cannot speak for the quality, since I have never tried it, but 5 years is plenty of time for learning if one pays attention in earnest.

Satellite TV has made a huge difference in the lives of many different people. Dish Network Satellit

Satellite TV has made a huge difference in the lives of many different people. Dish Network Satellite TV knows this better than anyone, which is why it has been motivated to continue to deliver the best possible quality and value in the years since it first made satellite TV available to normal families back in the early nineteen nineties. Click here for more information about the Current Dish Network Specials.

Ever since the very beginning, Dish Network has provided superior value in terms of the number of channels for any given amount of money spent, and that value has just gotten better as this company’s programming packages have gotten bigger and the supplemental technology has improved. For example, the introductory level programming package now offers roughly one hundred channels, which provides plenty of options for any family. Of course it’s still possible to get much larger programming packages as well either by subscribing to large ones or customizing smaller ones with the addition of extra services. For instance, it’s possible to add foreign language programming, sports programming, premium movie packages, or HDTV channels onto introductory and mid level programming packages for a customized viewing experience!

The number of programming options available through Dish Network is truly incredible. The foreign language options are an excellent example of this. It’s now possible to receive programming in languages that include Hebrew, Japanese, Russian, Korean, Cantonese, Arabic, Italian, and many more. This is a great opportunity for anyone who is a student of other languages or who has ties to those cultures. The variety of sports programming is also extremely impressive. In addition to the sports packages that are comprised of numerous seasonal sports networks, Dish Network can provide you with seasonal sports subscriptions that deliver every game in the sport and league of your choice throughout the regular season. Options include major league baseball, major league soccer, the National Hockey League, the NBA, and many more! Of course it’s also possible to mix and match premium movie packages such as Comcast, HBO, Starz! and Showtime in order to provide you with a great selection of movies!

Getting High Definition Television (HDTV) channels from Dish Network is an option that will truly enrich your viewing experience! That’s because HDTV is the next generation TV format that can provide you with the best possible combination of picture, sound, and overall cinematographic experience in your own living room! This excellent viewing opportunity will provide you with a higher quality picture, a wider viewing angle with the 16:9 aspect ratio, and the realistic sound of Dolby Digital 5.1! These features comprise the standard for HDTV programming, and Dish Network’s HDTV channels provide the high quality programming that deliver that theater quality experience right in your living room! Best of all, Dish Network’s HDTV channels go far beyond movies in their scope. For instance, you’ll be able to enjoy programming about all a bunch of different hobbies and pastimes that you may be interested in as well as live concerts, original dramas, sports, classic reruns, and even the news!

Dish Network gives you a real advantage when it comes to enjoying your TV service through its DVR receivers. DVR is short for Digital Video Recorder, and one of these devices greatly improves your ability to govern your TV viewing so that it can conform to the other demands of your life!

Over the years, there have been a lot of different ways to watch TV, but satellite TV is proving to be the most enjoyable and effective in many different ways. After all, no other technology is able to deliver a large number of high quality channels to as many people at such a great value! Dish Network Satellite TV has proven this time and again with its orientation towards quality, value, and high technology! Click here for more information about the Free Dish Network Deals.

Dish Network’s excellent service is based on great technology and builds off of it with a human touch when it comes to choosing the best possible combinations of channels and providing excellent customer service. The technology is an interesting blend of features that have been proven over the course of time and new innovations that promise to deliver better service than ever before! For example, the actual satellite technology and digital TV technology have been around for decades. The use of satellites means that an enormous number of people can be served across an enormous area (the entire continent of North America, actually) at relatively little cost and trouble when compared with cable. The use of digital technology to transmit the TV signals means that all subscribers enjoy a great combination of high quality picture and sound with helpful and entertaining interactive features!

The interactive features are especially useful when it comes to taking advantage of a satellite TV subscription. The thing is that Dishnetwork provides so many channels that deciding what to watch can be a real problem. Fortunately the Dish Network’s Interactive Electronic Program Guide provides the answer by providing viewers with all of the viewing options that are currently available, and will be available in the immediate future, in an easily navigable form. This makes selecting a channel an easy and pleasurable experience that bypasses the hit and miss pitfalls of channel surfing.

In addition to digital TV and great transmission technology, Dishnet TV also provides more advanced technology such as Digital Video Recording and High Definition Television. DVR, which is short for Digital Video Recording, is a life changing innovation for many TV viewers. That’s because it actually makes recording TV for later viewing an easy process thanks to the ability to use the Dish Interactive Electronic Program Guide as an intuitive interface for programming the device. Gone are the days of stumbling through the esoteric numeric interface of the VCR. With a Dish Network DVR, it’s just a matter of highlighting the program to be recorded and pressing a button! The machine does the rest. In addition, the Dish Network DVR offers the options of fast forward, rewind, and pause during the playback of recorded videos, as well as the ability to pause live TV! These DVR’s are built into a variety of satellite receivers so that there are options to meet everyone’s individual needs. In addition, several models support the use of external hard drives for virtually unlimited video storage capacity!

High Definition Television (HDTV) is another cutting edge technology offered by Dish Network. With access to HDTV channels, an included HDTV receiver (with the option of DVR capability), and your own HDTV set; you’ll be able to enjoy theater quality entertainment at home! Best of all, even though HDTV programming is theater quality, you’ll get a lot more than just movies from Dish TV!

Everyone knows that satellite TV is a great way to get TV, but you might not be as aware of all of the benefits that you can derive from subscribing to Dish Network Promotions. First of all, you’ll find that this company offers you the greatest number of options for places to live while taking advantage of its services. That’s because while cable TV is only available where the cables run- which is pretty much only population centers- Dish Network’s service is available just about everywhere in the country! There are some enormous implications to this such as the fact that it’s easy to bring the service with you when you move, you can live anywhere you want, and even take the service with you if you travel by RV or boat!

The advantage of being able to take Dishnetwork Satellite TV with you when you move is enormously beneficial. That’s because the service won’t change just because you’re living in a different area. While your local channels will change (if you subscribe to them), all of the other channels will remain the same. This makes the process of moving a lot easier when you don’t have to get used to new channels or reprogram the bookmarks and preferences on your receiver in order to accommodate the change. Dishnetwork is a lot more convenient than cable where when you move you’ll probably have to start service with a new cable TV company that probably does things differently. In addition, there’s an excellent chance that if you move out into the country or opt for small town life, cable TV won’t be available in any case!

Another advantage of Dish Network is it’s ability to go with you when you travel. Many people make this possible by installing home entertainment equipment- including a satellite receiver- in their motor homes, travel trailer, and even their boats. They typically have their electronics strapped down for the movement of the vehicle and pick up the satellite signal either through a satellite dish installed in the roof under a dome or on a tripod that can be set up outside when the vehicle is stopped for the night. In addition, with the use of a generator or a good bank of batteries, it’s possible to watch TV even in the middle of the ocean or out in the back country! Another advantage can be enjoyed from subscribing to local channels. This will allow travelers to keep up with the happenings in their home towns while they roam!

Regardless of whether you enjoy your Dish Network subscription on the road or in a fixed place, you can take advantage of the benefits of HDTV. High Definition Television, as this technology is known in long form, is a great way to get the most out of your TV viewing because it more closely resembles the movie theater experience than normal TV does! Dish Network’s HDTV channels provide the more detailed picture, the better sound quality, and the wider viewing area that will allow you to get the most out of your HDTV set and convert your living room into a cinema!

How did Dish Network North Carolina get to be the television powerhouse that it is now? The answer is pretty simple actually. Dish Network NC supplies the best television programming possible at affordable prices and accompanied by convenient, user friendly technologies.

While other television service providers offer many of the same great channels that Dish Network NC does, no one does a better job of anticipating what TV viewers will want to watch and then putting that together into an entertainment package. One great example of this is Dishnetwork NC's economy package: Dish Family. Dish Family is designed for the family who's just starting out and wants to get ahead. It has only forty channels, but that relatively small selection includes a blend of channels like the Hallmark Movie channel and Animal Planet that both adults and children love and can enjoy together as well as channels that appeal to children and adults separately. The result is an extremely satisfying entertainment package that's very cost effective to subscribe to.

At the other end of the extreme is Dish Network NC's America's Everything Pak. America's Everything Pak has one hundred and eighty of the most popular channels available anywhere plus movie packages from Showtime, Cinemax, STARZ, and HBO; for a total of over two hundred channels! America's Everything Pak is the entertainment package of choice for the family with really diverse television tastes who also loves movies.

In between the two extremes of Dish Family and America's Everything Pak, are America's Top 60 Entertainment Package, America's Top 120 Entertainment Package, and America's Top 180 Entertainment Package. These three entertainment packages are designed to appeal to the majority of Dishnetwork North Carolina's subscribers. Each contains a wide variety of programming including movies, news, sports, children's programming, programming of special interest to women, and even programming of special interest to men. America's Top Entertainment Packages are also flexible and designed to grow as your family's needs for more diverse choices grows. For example, if you start out with America's Top 60 Entertainment Package and want more channels, upgrading to America's Top 120 will simply add sixty more channels to those you already have. The same is true for America's Top 180 Entertainment Package.

If you really want to get the most out of your home entertainment system, High Definition (HD) entertainment packages from Dish TV North Carolina are definitely the way to go. High Definition Television programing has the wide screen 16:9 aspect ratio, high resolution picture, and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound, that your need to get the most out of your high definition television set. Dishnetwork NC's high definition television entertainment packages contain a variety of channels devoted to older movies that have been remastered to meet the high def standards as well as a variety of newer programming that was originally produced in high definition. The new programming includes news, extreme sports, world cultures, video gaming, concerts, science, normal sports, home improvement, and much more.

Drive-By Bags is a fairly new company that recycles vinyl billboards into tote bags. The bags are created by husband and wife team Jeff and Gail Greengard from billboards that measure up to 14 x 48 feet. An ambitious endeavor to say the least. The bags are one of the kind but keep checking back in at the Drive-By store because they plan on expanding their line to include different styles in the future.

Here's an example of what one of the billboards originally looked like:

According to reports, the private equity firm that owns U.S. retailer Lord & Taylor is in talks to snap up Hudson's Bay. At the same time, Bath & Body Works has announced plans to open six Canadian stores this fall. Which basically means two large American retailers are planning to set up shop here at a time when Canadian consumers have lost all confidence in their ability to keep on shopping. Either executives at the two retailers are seriously misjudging the resilience of Canada's economy, or Canadian consumers are overly pessimistic. Which is it?
