First of all, my deepest apologies for the lack of updates. I actually had something small written up a week ago, before I went back to Buffalo for the weekend, but hated it (seriously you’re better off without it). I planned on working on it some more at the airport while I waited, but then my flight got pushed back 5 hours (hey lots of time to write!). Then my flight got canceled. So I spent the night figuring out how I was going to get back to work in the morning. In NY. From Buffalo.

I ended up renting a car and driving with my cousin who lives in NYC (she’s a film school grad working in NYC as an administrative assistant at a hedge fund… more on really cool, related experiences later. And yes of course I have family here too). I could have waited for a flight the next day but Jet Blue had canceled 5 flights to NYC that night and I didn’t want to deal with the headache at the airport the next morning. It’s a nice, easy drive so I think it’s a no brainer (seriously is there any system, besides maybe health care, that is more screwed up than flying our friendly skies? From the FAA still using inefficient, 60 year old radar rather than GPS, airlines overbooking flights and scheduling more flights than airports can comfortably handle, and airports themselves just being a mess. Delays keep getting worse and worse. Something’s got to give soon right?) Oh and I showed up to work at 4pm on Monday (just in time for dinner!)

Anyways, didn’t get much blogging done other than the piece that I didn’t like (it was just my stories of how James Gandolfini had walked his dog right by me, how I got cool new vintage shades, and how I got my iPhone… so there. But those shades are 20 years old, back in style, and were given to me. Sweet right? Oh and I totally just happened upon that style website right now in a Google search. I don’t actually check that site). In fact, I’m almost never at my hotel, other than to sleep. I wake up around 6 am, I’m at work by 8, get out at 6, and then go out to dinner. Then maybe a drink. Or 2... All of a sudden its 9 or 10 and we have to get back to the hotel, which is always a 1 hour process (minimum) because we try to be as cost effective in getting home as possible. But the whole ordeal will often be as long as 2 hours (turns out this city is big). And the problem is, the less you spend, the longer it takes to get around. In getting from somewhere in Manhattan to my hotel room in Edgewater, NJ, the fastest way would probably be via helicopter. Next to that, a cab going directly to our hotel is fast (at night) but also costs $60. So to make it home quickly and cheaply we normally take a mix of cab, subway, ferry, shuttle, and some good old walking in just ONE trip home! (recent development: I found out how easy, cheap, and fast the bus is… but you still have to get to Port Authority and hope for a less than 1 hour wait for your bus. I also heard the path train is fast but haven’t figured that one out yet). On the plus side, if you need to know how to get somewhere in Manhattan, just ask me! And sorry but I need my 5-7 hours of beauty sleep, so I just crash when I get back.

But hey, I’m back! There’s so much to talk about but I thought I’d touch on some random and very different experiences that are all thanks to my artist/hedge fund working cousin (thanks Rita!). First, I was invited to attend a screening of a documentary that she had done all the translations for (I told you it was random). Her friend, Jawad, worked on this project about the war in Lebanon that took place in July 2006, and the land mines left behind from Israeli cluster bombs. It’s really interesting and you really feel for the poor, Southern-Lebanese people that they follow around while they clean up this dangerous mess. Jawad is really trying to raise awareness of the unexploded bombs, but the people are so damn interesting themselves, that you end up focusing on their personal stories. I got to watch it in a large studio apartment converted into a theater, just off of Wall St (oddly enough), with friends of Jawad’s and a bunch of hippies who all had great (not) suggestions on how they could make the movie better during the Q&A session, all while managing to bash the American government for unrelated reasons. I really liked the film and look forward to getting a copy for my family to see (did I mention that I’m Lebanese?).

Random #2. I told her how I was trying to go to a Yankee game and she told me that she gets tickets from work for free and that she could hook me up. I guess going to a Yankee game isn’t that random (I’m a Yankee fan), but it is compared to going to an indie documentary premiere, right? Well the part that gets crazy is where I was sitting. Apparently this hedge fund is doing pretty well because I was in $250 seats, 7 rows up from the Yankee dugout and Spike Lee, at the 20^th to last game ever at Yankee Stadium, was on TV a few times, and just had no business being that close at all. But I’m not sorry. It was amazing! Not to mention it was one of the most exciting baseball games I’ve watched. Seriously, the Yankees were down 5-0 early, tied it up, then went up 8-5 on a 3 run home run, then gave up the lead on an 8^th inning grand slam, then countering with 6 runs themselves in the 8^th, all while being about 25 feet from Jonny Damon’s big head and A-Rod’s perfect body. I was so close that I feel like I know them personally. It was amazing! (did I say that already?).

Well I wanted to give you a little taste of what’s been going on. Speaking of taste, I’ll try to hit you with a more food-focused update soon.

Anyway, the similarities between the two are uncanny.

Although the Levi's ad (which has nothing to do with BBH) is definitely not original, it does work quite well, taping into people love of a good stunt on the Internet. I think it is actually better than the Rayban one. It has a great feeling about it and is all about the product. Getting people excited about an ad heavily featuring your product is no easy task. So well done to them.

But the only problem is that it was after the Rayban ad. So a bit of Internet fame they might get, but awards they will not.

But ultimately does it matter to our normal Internet dude? Probably not.
