Housestep? Dubhouse? Whatever you want to call it, Appleblim's got it on this edition of the RA podcast.

Those celebrants have been legion, but perhaps the most interesting have been the house/techno cognoscenti. Producers like Ricardo Villalobos and Radioslave have both made their love plain by penning original productions or remixing pre-existing tracks that straddle this new genre that has yet to been given a credible name. We're not out to do it today. Instead, we humbly offer up yet another podcast that continues to sketch out the fertile ground being forged by both sides, whether it be in Shed's remix of Radioslave or Shackleton's glistening take on Geiom's 'Reminissin'. Whatever it is, Appleblim showcases it on his RA podcast with aplomb.

In the past year, Portland, Oregon, based SubSensory Recordings has becoming a driving force behind the area's Techno scene with both it's DJ roster and digital record label. Its' current roster of artists includes Portland Techno legend George Holland, label founder JAK as well as Lil Roj, Primal, Cozmix Vixen, AO and Nathan Detroit. JAK talks a little bit about the labels history and its' future plans:

"When I started SubSensory in 2005 my goal was to develop the framework for a record label and to push the Techno sound in Portland, which had fallen off considerably since the middle and late 90s. During the first two years things moved slowly, so I focused my energy in the studio and started the SubSensory website to help promote my mixes and tunes. I also began a guerilla marketing campaign using MySpace and many national and international EDM forums.

In 2007 this strategy began to pay off both in terms of visits to the SubSensory site and gigs. We started getting thousands of hits a month, my mixes were getting downloaded at surprising rates, and I began playing almost every weekend. I was booked in Seattle for the first time in years and also signed several original tracks on Portland based Akashik Records. I also started collaborating with Portland based hard-techno artist Primal, who had already released his own tracks on a number of international labels, and Louisiana transplant Dj Lil Roj. Roj, Markus (Primal) and I spent many Friday nights at the SubSensory studio mixing beats with beers and sharing ideas regarding the techno sound and its future.

In summer of 2007 Jak learned he and and his wife had the opportunity to work and live in Chile for 12 months. They didn't waste any time in accepting the offer and in July 07 they found themselves living in Vina Del Mar a resort city and popular tourist destination on Chile's central coast.

Moving to Chile gave me a new perspective, more time to spend on the label and time to reflect on the scene in general. I quickly saw that Chilean artists faced barriers similar to those faced by Portlanders. Specifically clubs who were resistant to techno, low pay for Djs, isolation from the international dj circuit, and a lack of cooperation between local artists. With a little luck I hooked up with some good people and had the opportunity to play many of the areas top clubs and parties and to collaborate with several local producers. I also took my first serious look at the digital music market, which I had previously shunned. Something I came to terms with in Chile was that although I prefer vinyl, many aspiring international DJs don't have the access to vinyl that we enjoy in the US. For example a new vinyl record in Chile costs 18 to 20 US dollars, in a country where most people earn a relatively small salary. This spawned the idea of distributing our first releases in the digital format." In the Fall of 2007 SubSensory's first two EP's, "Shrapnel" and "Circles" hit the digital market with JunoDownload, TrackItDown, BeatsDigital and DanceRecords.com.

Since then SubSensory has released 5 EP's featuring tracks from Jak, Primal, and Chilean artist Basstik and coming EPs will feature tracks and Remixes from Lil Roj, Chilean artist Mikiphone, Seattle based Jakub, and others TBA. SubSensory has also assembled Portland's strongest techno DJ roster including JAK and Lil Roj and George Holland. George came out of a 5 year hiatus in 2007 and has quickly re-established himself as one of the most in-demand local djs. Others include Dj *aO*, Vixen, and PRA's Nathan Detroit (www.pra.org), all of whom have seen a sizable surge in popularity in the past 6 months. In July 2008 JAK returns to Portland on the heels of the labels growth and his calendar is quickly filling up with event bookings including a highly anticipated Thursday August 14th event at Holocene, which will feature tag team sets from the entire Portland SubSensory roster."

A South American flavored dj set featuring a broad range of techno, tribal, electro-house, some latin flavored tech and even a bit of progressive.

DJ Lil Roj - Absorption.mp3 :: Recorded in November 2007, Lil Roj's demo "Absorption" features artists such as Martin Eyerer, Dubfire, Wink, Cirez D, Chris liebing. This mix showcases a fine selection of techno and minimal mixed and blended to perfection, a perfect example of Roj's intelligent take on dirty-techy funk.

Kun taas Madonnan aviomiehellä, elokuvaohjaaja Guy Ritchiellä on "helpompaa". Työ ei ole yhtä hektistä ja se sitoo eri tavalla kuin taitelijan ammatti. Guy Ritchien viimeisin ohjaama, Revolver (2005) menestyi kohtalaisen hyvin maailmalla, mutta edelleen hänen parhaimmat ohjauksen sijoittuvat 90-luvun loppuun, jolloin valmistuivat sellaiset elokuva kuin Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (Puuta, heinää ja muutama vesiperä) ja Snatch - Hävyttömät vuonna 2000.

Eli monessa kohtaa niin arvostelijat kuin myös Madonnan ihailijatkin ovat toivoneet tähden rauhoittumista ja keskittymistä enemmän perheelleen. Mutta jo aiemmin tänä vuonna, pian 50-vuotta täyttävä pop-ikoni antoi ymmärtää, ettei rauhoittumista ole kuitenkaan luvassa, vaan vauhti tulee jatkossa vain kiihtymään. With the extensive and intensive efforts to have brought a representative sample of the netlabel scene along this year, we must say, we need holidays. And this can be seen as the last episode of the season.

Monographic arrives to its 28th release with the Berlin based Pentagonik netlabel. This couldnt have been possible without the cooperation of its curator, Don Ludwig and Kai, who trusted the recording of the mix to the well-known to the netlabel scene, Cotumo, who has a wide experience spinning the records around some european cities.

The roster of artists on the platform has its quality guaranteed by some names like Le Cantin (Archipel / One Bit Wonder), Ludwig Coenen (Immigrant / Flumo / Highgrade), the novelist and musician Norman Fairbanks (Testtube), Wego (Tropic / Flumo), Francesco Tarallo (Trapez), to name a few…

Es gibt es ja eigentlich nicht, dass man 1 Monat lang gelebt hat, dann arbeitet man 4 Tage dort und denkt, es passiert wieder der 13.July 07 nur halt am 4,July 08??? So geschehen gestern- und ich war wirklich, wirklich froh, wie ich um 4:30 gehen konnte und zw. 6 und 8 wieder mal ein sehr chilliges Kinopremieren-Megacard- Promo ding hatte. Die Kollegin nett, nette Gäste und glückliche Gewinner, die in den Genuss kamen, einen Film gratis zu sehen, obwohl sie gar nicht gewonnen haben, aber uns so viele Karten übrig blieben.

Cathi hat sich heut auch einen Fauxpass geleistet, bei der Promo-arbeit, die ich ihr verschafft habe- wehe, es gibt Konsequenzen für mich, dann gilt ihr "ich hab Fieber" geschleime net mehr!

Gestern war die letzte Grillparty in alter Runde bei Sarah- waren stark dezimiert: Claudia war nicht zu erreichen, Schreini wollte kommen und alle anderen- tja, die fand man in Dubai, London und co... Abend war nett und flüssig, nach dem ganzen zachen Prozedere des Tages genau das, was man wollte.

Für das restliche WE wird jetzt das alte "Entspannprogramm" rausgekehrt: Man nehme lockere 4 Stunden Promotion morgen, dann Grillerei bei den Parents mit Gesprächen mit Stefan und Martin und dazu viel Schlaf und insgesamt 8 Bücher, die gelesen werden wollen!!!

Ach ja und nächstes WE gehts für eine Nacht wegen der Diplomarbeit endlich ins AVIVA Singleresort!!! Freue mich schon so, nur dafür ist noch soviel vorzubereiten...

A pan-pot is a simple, workaday knob, given to side-to-side flip-flopping and not much else. Pan-Pot, on the other hand, are a brilliantly multidimensional Berlin duo currently twisting house and techno fans into rapturous fits.

In just a few short years, Pan-Pot -the duo comprised of Tassilo Ippenberger and Thomas Benedix-have become a central presence in electronic dance music’s most advanced sectors. Their rise parallels that of their home label mobilee, coming at a time when established categories are breaking down and accepted notions of “minimal” (please) are giving way to an unprecedented degree of dynamism on demanding dancefloors. Another mobilee signee, Marco Resmann, was a founding member of the group, but has since left to concentrate on his solo work.

Pan-Pot’s vinyl debut came in May 2005 with the Popy & Caste EP (mobilee002), featuring two cuts bursting with gritty, dirty funk, as though they’d scraped all the gunk from beneath the knobs of their gear, packed it into a ball and sent it rolling across the nightclub. Since then, in addition to their contribution to the Extra EP (mobilee005 plus), backing Daniel Stefanik’s anthemic banger “The Bells,” they’ve released three more EPs on mobilee (Obscenity, mobilee005; Black Lodge, mobilee012; and What Is What, mobilee023) and two on Einmaleins Musik. Their kinetic, undulating grooves have proved particularly tempting to other producers-Jesse Rose, Lee Van Dowski, Agnès, Barem and Camea have all taken (pot)shots at reworking the group’s tunes-and their own remixing skills are increasingly in demand: Pan-Pot have put their immediately recognizable spin on tracks by Misc., Anja Schneider & Sebo K, Tim Xavier, Dapayk Solo, Sweet ‘n Candy, and Damián Schwartz, among others.

The release of their debut album marks yet another milestone for the group. Appropriately titled Pan-O-Rama, the record-which has the honor of being the first artist album released on mobilee-offers a 360-degree tour of techno at its most twisted, balancing ominous atmospherics with an unusual lightness of touch, and running classic machine music through silicon’s digital wringer.

They may name themselves after a piece of gear, but Pan-Pot’s music is ultimately about moving bodies, not knobs. Both live and as DJs, Pan-Pot deliver on that promise with sets that rope together crisply minimal, coolly restrained techno and hot and heavy house. Anyone who’s ever played with an analog synthesizer knows that all those pots and dials are there to be touched; Pan-Pot reaches out and touches right back-with a love slap from the heart of the Berlin underground.

I had to go to by myself because the ticket was present and everybody I knew had gone on the 1st night. It was the perfect chance to strike up conversations with people because the band we were all there to see have a big cult following. When I walked into the venue, beside the merch stand there was the frontman of a very big and influential band from the mid-nineties to present day. He was standing calmly chatting away to two of his friends. I thought about approaching him for a while but bottled out. Running through my mind was "If I approach him he'll just shrug me off as another fanboy. I know who he is but I don't actually know him. Basically, he'll think I'm a fucking weirdo."

I headed upstairs and went to the bar. At the back there was quite a few music geeks standing about on their own just like me.  I know that at the end of the day I'm trying to learn how to speak to people to further myself but I genuinely wanted to speak to somebody and share this amazing moment when finally, after 15 years I get to see this band.

I failed.

When the band started there was no point in trying. I had drunk far too much beer and the music was far too loud.

When I left the venue I lit up a cigarette and headed back towards the city centre to meet a friend. Somehow, and I don't know how, a guy in his late thirties started speaking to me. Again, like I spoke about in the first page of my blog, it just happened. We had a good conversation all the way backabout the differences in our generations music and parted ways when a woman who looked like a Russian doll rode up on a bike and offered us drugs.

Oh, in the end I suppose I did make one point of contact. Me and my friend went to a trendy cattlemarket club that night where a photographer came up to us and asked to take our photo. I asked him a few questions about possibly getting him to do some promo shots of the band and gave me the address of a website to conact him through.

These are the things I did wrong:

Thought too much about what I was going to say.
I was worried about the consequences would be of speaking to somebody.
I got too drunk.
