Okay so i have to admit its been a slow week musically but i have a few highlights to share from this weeks show. The Laidback Luke remix of Fancy Footwork was quite a surprise and not what i expected at all and i'm a relative late comer to the work of Shinichi Osawa but everything i've got of his lately just makes me go 'fuck that sounds good.....'

In a MySpace bulletin today, Pin Me Down announced that their debut single, Cryptic is out on iTunes UK today. Pin Me Down is Bloc Party guitarist Russell Lissack's side-project with singer Milena Mepris, formerly of Black Moustache. Their 80s-influenced electro-rock made it's live debut in London recently, and we're hoping for more UK dates soon. Lissack's distinctive guitar licks are his contribution to the music, and whilst very recognisably Russell, it's not Bloc Party with a different singer. The refreshing guitar pop is worthy of any indie dancefloor. The Cryptic single will also feature a Phones remix (always an exciting prospect) and more.

The Bulletin:

"That's right. Our first single "Cryptic" is out today in the UK only on iTunes. The single features remixes by PHONES (Paul Epworth), Jamie Ellis and Russell Lissack, Dave P & Adam Sparkles, and Dubka of the Cazals. Next week May 26, the vinyl 12" will be available. The full single will be out on June 2 on iTunes.

iTunes free track of the week is rarely as good as this, so get in that music store and get this freebie right now.

Now this isn't Santogold's strongest track, but what do you expect from a giveaway track? It's not as good as single L.E.S. Artistes or some of the others on the album, but it's a good track, catchy and more energetic. Her voice on this one reminds me of Milena Mepris from Pin Me Down. The backing music isn't provided by Russell Lissack, so Mepris wins on that one, but the two sounds are very comparable indeed. You'll Find A Way is the best track iTunes have given away for free for a good while, (Hercules and Love Affiar was ok) so Santogold is a download must for you today!

I'm glad Dandy With Dandruffs hit me up with another mix, because honestly, I've been getting bored with the regular stuff I listen to. It feels like I've hit a bit of a dead spot as far as new stuff goes, because everything just feels stale.

Dandy put together a great little life-saver for me, in that its completely different from everything. I can't really explain it, it just feels fresh, even though some of the tracks are older ones. "A Vrai Dire" is delivering everything I'm subconsciously asking for.

Tracklist:
Glass Candy - Beatific
Apparat - Arcadia (Telefon Tel Aviv Remix - Edit)
Raw man - Across The Universe
Flairs - Better Than Prince
Etienne de Crecy - Punk
Breakbot - Please Don't
Buy Now - Body Crash
Midfield General - Disco Sirens (Club Mix)
K.I.M - Kim Kong
Baciotti - Black Jack (Serge Santiago Version)
Bobmo - Rock The House

D.I.M. is going to be in town on Thursday, May 8th, at Smartbar with Thomas Von Party & Matt Walsh. That's day after tomorrow for all of you that are counting down the days with me. D.I.M. consistently pushes the envelope for making crowd killing electro tunes that are as cutting edge as they are completely and totally unforgiving. I'm expecting to be attacked from every auditory angle on this one, similar to his labelmate, Alex Ridha (aka Boys Noize of Boys Noize Records) several months back on the same stage. This guy's not making too many detours along his way through this fine country before he heads back to Germany, so I'd suggest you spend your time wisely considering how many events there are that evening.

To only complicate things further, The Black Ghosts are scheduled to grace our fine city on Thursday, May 8th, as well- at the Hideout along with Thunderheist, Lazer Crystal, Willy Joy & Capcom. Shortly after releasing the I Want Nothing EP, I'm now officially anxious for the debut full length to drop. The single track of "I Want Nothing" falls in line with the rest of their anthemic, synth heavy, dream-bangers, and once again leaves me with the question: are there a better set of vocal cords on anybody creating music these days?? Big ups to Check the Availability for the Phones remix. The Whip's version of "Any Way You Choose To Give It" is right off of my year-end best of list for '07, and god damn right it's still one of the hardest hitting, most skull crushing electro definitions that I've come across since starting this little blog.

The Black Ghosts - I Want Nothing (Frankmusik Remix)

Whilst on the subject of Phones, or Paul Epworth to be exact- the man who is still one of my favorite producers after that legendary Futureheads "Hounds of Love" teardown that was executed so well- why not post a few tracks that he has graced with remixes since we last did a little mention of him? This Jape track found it's way to Discodust a few weeks ago, the rest of them have been haphazardly littered throughout the blogosphere for a little while now, only now to be concentrated on by yours truly. The Peter, Bjork & John track is pretty old, too. But what remains so remarkable about Phones is that his track selection may come in second only to his artistic vision for each one of the tracks that he actually selects. Truly a winning combination, and a sign of a great artist.. look to the New Order remix for a stunning example. Very powerful.

Turboweekend has been lighting up my ipod like a Christmas tree. A three piece group from Denmark, their debut album "Night Shifts" received many praises from the likes of blogs such as mine. Since then, they've found a few comfortable spots in the Palms Out Sunday Remix weekly, set up a shows with their buddy James Braun, and got booked for their local SPOT festival in Aarhus. With the glaring falsetto and killer synths present in tracks like "My Name is Legion" there's a lot to fall in love with and plenty of reason to keep an eye on them.. I think we got around to posting a few of their tracks somewhere around October. Here are a few new and old songs to check out if you missed it. "You're not a model but you know how to taaake a stand!"

Here’s episodes 11 and 12 of the Bloc Party Vcasts, which this time take the form of 'Blocumentaries,' recorded by two fans during the band’s arena tour last December. These episodes were filmed at the London Alexandra Palace dates. Glasgow and Manchester videos are coming up soon.

While we’re on the subject of Bloc Party, guitarist Russell Lissack - who is also the brains behind the Bloc Party remixes - has a new project with New York City vocalist Milena Mepris called Pin Me Down, and “Cryptic” is the duo’s first single. It came out on Kitsune Maison’s GOLD Compilation February 4th and a proper 12″ release for the single will follow in March on the vaunted French house label. I could do with some different vocals I guess, but the guitars are all about that classic Silent Alarm-era Bloc Party sound, and there really isn’t anything more I can ask for than that.
