gestern bin ich aus berlin von der DACH security konferenz gekommen, bei der ich mir blöderweise über das wlan der tu berlin malware eingefangen habe. eigentlich schön ironisch - malware auf einer konferenz über it-sicherheit.

das blöde war nur, dass weder mein geliebter symantec antivirus noch ad-aware den schaden beheben konnten. die lösung lag aber nicht so fern, einmal kurz gegooglet und plötzlich landete ich bei google pack, einem bundle von gratis software, das auch Norton Security Scan und Spyware Doctor enthält. diese versionen der sonst kostenpflichtigen software sind etwas abgespeck und aufs nötige reduziert und konnten mir mein notebook, mit dem ich schon genug ärger hatte, wieder richten.

neben Norton Security Scan und Spyware Doctor enthält das pack noch Google Earth, Picasa, StarOffice, Google Toolbar für IE, RealPlayer, Firefox mit Google Toolbar, Skype und Adobe Reader. das beste an diesem pack ist, dass man sich aussuchen kann, welche tools man installieren will und welche nicht!

...so tonight I decided to take some photos....well....I decided to try Picasa and see if it could be used as I use all the other bits that come from Google....but as I also use Ubuntu Linux I didn't think I was able to upload photos from my laptop.....Blokey to the rescue and a couple hours later I've copied everything to both Flickr and Picasa and vice-versa...Picasa is much better in my opinion as you can create as many different albums as you wish, whereas Flickr only allows three free albums - I think both have the same amount of storage. The next thing to consider was whether to migrate over to using Blogger instead of Wordpress...now given I've only just started using this I decided to have a look so I set up a new blog on Blogger for a look see. I like Wordpress so the blog on Blogger is no more....I've a particular fondness for the stats part here...the little graphy thing with it's spikes now and then...it's flatline (over the last few days anyway!) and the spammy catcher...way cool.

So you want some photos? Ok...I'll show my first two scarves...and one of my little corner of the lounge dedicated to all my crafty bits plus one big purple exercise ball....I need a declutter session in that corner this weekend!

That one I've creatively called Scarf Two, as strangely enough, it's the second scarf I made. The first one was a bit boring - all garter stitch in a varigated rose pink/browny colour...I'm not even going to bother showing that one. And yes, it was called Scarf One. For my next exciting project,let me reveal to you none other than.....Scarf Three! It's a pattern I got from Ravelry by a woman named Tiennie called Old Shale. Now, it's a bit difficult to see the pattern...I realised after I found it on Ravelry (I had found it before then from another blog that linked to hers I believe) she had done it in 4ply...and I was doing it in 8 ply...never mind that, it's deliciously soft and I can't wait until my budget allows me to get some more balls to add to it...and it's totally easy!

It's not a terribly good photo really...again, I did it at night with not too much in the way of lighting.I would have done it tomorrow except I no longer have Friday as a weekend day for my. Bit of a bummer but someone else's need was greater than mine and shifting back to having a normal weekend was more important than my sanity saving day off. The only saving grace about it is being able to return to having weekly family meetings on a Sunday night. The kids seem happy enough about it and Thing Two thinks it's great to have me home all of Sunday....who cares if the house never gets tidied again....I guess Sunday morning this week I'll have to work out a new weekly/daily routine to try to fit everything into less time.

The last photo I'll add tonight is of the first cross-stitch I started...not the first completed though...it's been going some 19 or 20 years now I think....it's one from the gorgeous Paula Vaughan series...a double ring wedding quilt...which is also the first real quilt I began to make...and also remains unfinished, although I have all the pieces painstakingly cut out!

Oh boy! Can you tell it's midnight? Does this look like a double wedding ring quilt?!? Duh, I think my Mum has that one...this one is obviously a Dresden Plate...I need to go to bed! I also just decreased a stitch in the sock I'm making in the wrong place...I should heed the message and go to bed!...Like Now!

I love to read. I will read just about anything you put front of me. So it goes without saying that I love to read blogs. And there are quite a few that I really like to read. Sometimes it is hard to keep up with all of the ones that I like to read. I have most of the ones that I read on a regular basis over in my blogroll and so I will go down the line and see if there are any new updates. That takes a lot of time, something that I don't really have a lot of sometimes. I know there are ways to subscribe to blogs through different feeds and other things but I just haven't taken the time to figure those things out.

Then the other day Pete Wilson said in one of his twitters that he had like 800 blogs to read in Google reader (Pete was on vacation last week with his family so I am sure reading blogs was not high on his list of things to do). What is that I said to myself. I asked my hubby and he said, "oh it is another thing Google has." I am already gmail user. We have been Picasa user almost from the very beginning. And there is this nifty little tool Google has in their maps program where you can track how far you walk (well if you actually walk for exercise...lol). So I am a fan of Google and the many products they have. So last night I finally checked out Google reader. I think it is about the best thing I have found in a long time. I plugged all of the blogs that I like to read in and now I just have to go to one place to read blogs. No more wasting time randomly clicking on blogs and then wondering where the last three hours went.

[gallery]I have 5 photo editing programs that I love playing around with. They are easy to work with and don't require a masters degree in technology to use.

I can add words, special effects, edges, frames, make collages, abstracts. In addition an image can be reduced in size or cropped. They can also be enhanced (made to look better), lightened or darkened, changed from color to black and white or sepia, and even made to look like a negative. Then I can print or save the "new" photo. I usually save the new photo with a new name so that my original remains as is for future ideas that may cross my mind.

Some of these programs came with printers, some were free on the web. I know Google has one that is free and I have used it many times. You can download it by going to picasa.com.

So for those of you who have not tried your photo editing program, give it a shot. You may just come up with something you really like.
