Oh, how long it's been, friends. I can call you friends because I'm like John McCain like that. It's been a while since I saw any really striking examples of hipster and/or pedophile in the celebrity world - and the real world. It's like everyone ever was all "hm how can we make Sarah's life more boring and lame? I know! Let's stop growing 'ironic' pedostaches and start dressing decently!" Ugh horrible! It's like the heavens decided to wreak horribleness all up ons me in every possible way!

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="561" caption="photo via faded youth, obviously"][/caption]

So thank god for Jude Law. I never ever ever thought I would say that before. I don't expect to say it again. I'm not a fan of his. I think he looks like a skeezy version of Phil Collins. And I mean, I love "Against All Odds," and he did some pretty dece work with Genesis (although really Peter Gabriel was better both in Genesis and solo). But at the same time, Phil Collins is already kind of skeezy looking. So looking like the pedo version of Phil Collins is really saying something. Jude Law is trying his hardest, his absolute damnedest to be a hipster with those glasses and that scarf, but it's just not working. As it is, at least we can be confident that he's not actually a pedophile since as far as we the public know, he doesn't have sex with children, just their nannies.

After the jump, some bonus Phil Collins videos!

One final note to Jude Law: Phil Collins doesn't need to disguise his hairline. Maybe you should accept yours, too. Because we can totally tell that you're brushing your hair forward and it's not working.

Yup. Sometimes it happens. Getting dumped. It usually sucks. Sometimes it's not so bad. Sometimes you want it to happen. Sometimes you dump, sometimes you get dumped. If you haven't gotten dumped, well it's due time. Everyone should know that crap ass feeling at least once in their lives to grow up and be a decent human being and all.

Enough of the sermon, the actual reason I'm posting this is that I heard a great radio show on NPR the other day about breakups. You should listen to it. Phil Collins is interviewed in it. I don't even like Phil Collins. Now, I appreciate his masterful drumming skills, but man, he has come out with some cheesy cheesy crap over the years. But at the end of the show I actually felt really really bad for Phil Collins. He sounded pretty sad. I felt really bad for Starlee Kine as well, the lovely lady who interviewed Phil Collins and wrote her very own break up song.

All I gotta say to Starlee is, damn, I'm sorry. Those Canadians are sneaky little hags about stealing boyfriends. On behalf of my country, I apologize.

I digress. Just go listen to it here.

p.s. If you're just too cool for radio shows about breakups, well, then I suggest you listen to this one about the American housing crisis. It's also fantastic.

p.p.s If they say "It's not you it's me," they're lying. It's most definitely you. Just for future reference.

...coming in th eair tonight... I've been listening to the legendary track "In the Air" by Phil Collins. I remember this song for all of my life growing up in the 80's. In my life the song has really struck a chord in my life especially in Iraq. I felt the song would describe that Death would be coming for me at any time or day when I was over there, same for when I was in Afghanistan. Some people may say it's depressing, but it's reality.

As of late, the feeling has came back, as if my time to go is soon. I'm not scared to die(no I'm trying to be a hardass, or badass, but my life trials have bestowed this gift/curse on me), but I'm so scared of leaving my kids, especially how young they are. Thats what scares me, not having my kids. Maybe its just nothing, but you can't always brush off things like this, thats when you get blind sided. I think I'm gonna start shopping for life insurance so if my feeling is true, my kids will be financial stable to say the least.

For those that don't know the song here it is:

'Displaying an infectious enthusiasm for life, due to their independently motivated work ethic and energetic albeit shambolic lifestyles, MidiMidis loaded up with no memory card being removed. Spawning from an element of confusion and a longing for a bold incorporation of interesting and innovative influences, MidiMids represent a creative surge of creativity orchestrated by two brothers-in-law. Two brothers who enjoy spending far too much time drinking beer and experimenting with retro midi sounds on their old dusty unreliable laptops, GameBoys, GameGears and scuzzy broken guitars.

From an early age, the two have embraced everything from Gary Numan, AC/DC, Howard Jones and Bahuaus, to Nirvana, The Velvet Underground, and Television. MidiMidis create their minimalist fuzzy-buzzy 8-bit music by meticulously weaving the harsh feedback-heavy guitars of Sonic Youth together with the sharp angular work of Talking Heads, Kraftwerk and Human League.

Whether pondering over forgotten thoughts, the ubiquitous subject of relationship breakdowns or pining after a bottle of wine, lead singer Marcus manages to somehow circumvent the bile bitterness that many a songwriter would fall for. He treats these and other dark subjects with a bohemian carelessness and humorous irreverence only to the back drop of feedback laced angular guitars and electro bass and midi bleeps.

Its Rock Time!

In early 2006 two friends Sean Shreeve (Bass) and Jon Hardless (Guitar) began their early careers like most musicians; crafting songs in their bedrooms. Soon the ideals and conventions of a traditional rock band set-up were wearing thin with
the duo and they began to look for new and innovative ways to bring their vision of the way bands should sound to a future generation of listeners. Shreeve and Hardless immediately got to work crafting unconventional musical structures and
electronic beats on their Playstation while layering lyrics, guitar and bass riffs over the top. Although the band was still in a very premature form the duo managed to convince vocalist Jason Mirchandani to come onboard and after scrapping
their Playstation in favour of a laptop the group began hoaning their unique sound. Spectrum 7 were born!

So take a look at me now
There's just an empty space
There's nothing left here to remind me
Just the memory of your face

Take a good look at me now
There's just an empty space

When Peter Gabriel left genesis early in there career no one would have ever thought the drummer would lead them to new heights but he did. That drummer was Phil Collins one of the smoothest white boys hands down. In the 80’s Phil was a god and genesis was a hit making powerful group, the song I selected to go over today is “In to deep”. This classic brings me right to the eighties; the soft melody of Phil and the soothing piano create a landscape the mind travels slowly upon. I feel similar to what he says about “all my life I been searching” because in my life I also have been searching…………..for someone. I thank god for my parents listening to many genres of music, it helped culture me in a fashion I would never imagine. This song to me is a journey, a journey we often take but neglect to remember. Phil Collins created so many hits and here is just one.

The second half of your life, Sean? You don't plan on making it past 76?

I'll tell you what; Why don't we plan on getting together and having an "I'm not dead yet" party in 2046? I think we'll be free. Though I'd be very disappointed if I was still living or working where I am now.

I don't know; I may feel different later on, but my family has a history of being fairly long lived, and I've always vaguely assumed I'd be included in that.

Could be wrong, but if I am, I'm not likely to know...

Oh, and I actually own "All Things Must Pass", btw, Sean. It's a great two disc set. Here's another song from it:

The Art of Dying - George Harrison

Since the topic came up. And here are the lyrics. Would you believe that this song has Phil Collins playing the conga drums?

And here's a song by Grace Slick you may like:

Let It Go - Grace Slick

This one also has some rather important lyrics.

So if each man has a different plan let 'em go let 'em go
You have a power all your own
There's a spirit child inside you ready for life and I know
It's just waiting to see how you will grow
And when the spirit feels the need to wander let it go

I always love listening to Grace Slick. Lather actually came to mind for todays post, but I've already posted that before...

I think it’s time for a whinge: I’ve not blogged a whinge for a while. So here’s o

I think it's time for a whinge: I've not blogged a whinge for a while. So here's one I threw together a couple of days ago.

People aren’t attracted to me; they aren’t intimidated by me; they expect nothing from me. Realising this, I must choose who will control my life: will others, because I enslave myself to winning their respect and acceptance; or will I, because I refuse to allow my feelings of rejection to overcome my desire to reach my goals? When you feel that you’re unloved and a failure, it’s easy to choose the first. At the moment – another Friday night after dancing – I’m swaying between the two.

In a song by Phil Collins, Both sides of the story, a middle-class man strays into a ghetto, and is confronted by a youth with a firearm, who says, ‘Would you respect me if I didn’t have this gun? / Without it, I don’t get it [respect], and that’s why I carry one.’ In fact he would only get obedience, but not respect; although Niccolo Machiavelli would say that obedience was sufficient. If his writings are anything to go by, Machivelli’s ethics wouldn’t win him any awards for humanitarianism, but he knew that there were two ways to get people’s attention – by making them love you or fear you. ‘If you cannot be both, it is better to be feared than loved.’ Considering he lived contemporary with the Borgias, no doubt he gained first-hand experience of the latter.

At the moment, I’m venting – doing what I do – and once I’m back to normal operating temperature, I’m more likely to choose wisely because I’ll see more clearly. Nonetheless, I’d still like to improve my skills with projectile weapons and unarmed combat. Being able to casually mention that I can put a bullet through a twelve-inch target from a kilometre away would be an ego boost. A maleficent one, but any port in a storm...
