Who would have thought that the bass player on Finders Keepers Sadie, The Cleaning Lady, an unassuming single released in 1968, would go on to assume legendary status amongst the rock faithful? Another band, and two albums later, and Glenn Hughes was hitting his stride. Medusa, from Trapeze, hinted at where this rock/funk three piece could take it, You are the Music...We're Just the Band released a year or so later fulfilled that promise. On the latter, Hughes is simply breathtaking. Handling ALL the vocals, he is unsurpassed. On Feelin' So Much Better Now, his three-part black chick chorus is pure En Vogue. His gutsy lead vocal soars to incredible heights on Loser, and emotes with raw soul on the classic Coast to Coast and Will Our Love End. The bass playing is blistering rock funk, a perfect foil for the late Mel Galley's rock solid guitar and Dave Holland's stylish syncopations. This band had it all. Small wonder then, that Hughes was poached by Deep Purple, and Trapeze soldiered on for a while until Galley was poached by Whitesnake, and Holland by Judas Priest.

Hughes fell foul of the drink and drugs lavished on him as a newly-crowned Purple rock prince. He still managed to turn in classic performances on Purple albums, and his first solo album Play Me Out, is astonishing. But, after a last gasp classic, Hughes/Thrall in 1982, containing one of the greatest funk rock riffs of all time on Muscle and Blood, Hughes plumbed the depths in his personal life. Somehow, he appeared on various albums for the likes of Gary Moore and Tony Iommi, but it wouldn't be until the 90's and his brush with death, that Hughes would finally get his life, and his career, back on track. But oh boy, has he made up for lost time! A string of fantastic solo albums followed, plus great rock albums with Voodoo Hill and once again with Tony Iommi. His catalogue is of such a high standard, and so vast, its almost impossible to single anything out. Regular side men include Swedish guitarist JJ Marsh, and, as a perfect foil for the funk, the Chili's Chad Smith on drums. He is known variously as The Voice of Rock, the White Man's Stevie Wonder, but above all he's the funkiest mutha to take the stage. There is, quite simply no-one who can play bass and sing like this man. He stands alone.

On a personal note, he is pretty much the reason I've been a bassist/vocalist professionally for 30 years, and I've been lucky enough to meet him and tell him so. Listening to Deep Purple's Burn album, and Glenn's vocal and bass lines...it was like a light bulb going on in my head - so THAT'S what it's all about!

To paraphrase his old band Trapeze's album title YOU are the music, Glenn - we're just the fans.

RI.P. Mel Galley, guitarist with Trapeze, Whitesnake and Phenomena, who succumbed to throat cancer on July 1st. this year.

Sold Out. Everywhere.

"The first printing was so scarce in London that Edward Enninful, the black Notting Hill-born Vogue fashion editor, who worked with Meisel to style the Naomi Campbell cover (one of three versions of the edition) was forced to scour the country for an issue. 'I couldn't believe it. I ended up phoning friends in Ellesmere Port in Cheshire, who found one for me in a corner newsagent. I am so excited. I never thought I would be able to see something like this - my people, my race, wearing the collections, being gorgeous, chic, real women in that way. But the most important thing is: this proves we are bankable. We can sell.'"

You can say that again! Wooh!

"Conceived by editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani, and shot by Steven Meisel from a roster of 18 new, established and former stars, the July 'black issue' sold out in Britain on arrival. That renowned fashion photographer Steven Meisel, the recluse whose lens has made the career of many a model (including Brits Lily Cole and Karen Elson) should be focusing on non-white subjects might have been expected to cause some debate. A mild examination of conscience among the model scouts, agencies, casting directors and designers was privately anticipated, without much hope of anything changing - in the same way that the endless skinny-model debate has resulted in little or no change in the industry. But no one anticipated the global interest.

'It has been unprecedented, a sensation, although that wasn't the aim,' said Jonathan Newhouse, chairman of Condé Nast International, who masterminded the reprinting and rerouting of unsold magazines in Italy to America and Britain. In America, the issue is shrink-wrapped and stickered with the words 'First Reprint. The Most Wanted Issue Ever'.

That is no hype, according to the Kenya Hunt, the young black style editor of Metro International News in New York. 'I've been watching the news-stands since the beginning. There are lines of women when they hear of a new shipment. It's a wide cross-section of women, girls, people my parents' age who read Ebony,' she said. 'There have been email chains about it. The news-stand guys are hustling, locking it up in the back and charging $25, $28, when the real price is $16. Yesterday, I saw it on eBay for $50. There is a climate shift. This is the year of the presidential election. And this at a time when magazine sales are really hurting.'"

-- A portion of the sea of people Obama drew to listen to him speak in Berlin. Yes, I know. HOLY CRAP. Photo shot on assignment for, but not published in, "Refuge in White: Winter in a Canadian National Park," December 2005, National Geographic magazine

A solar phenomenon known as a sundog arcs over the tundra in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada. Sundogs are fairly common occurrences in the Arctic and Antarctic. They form when the sun is near the horizon and ice crystals high in the sky line up in a way that bends the solar rays like a prism.

This is amazing, isn't it? So I continued searching:

A sun dog or sundog (scientific name parhelion, plural parhelia, for "beside the sun") is a common bright circular spot on a solar halo. It is an atmospheric optical phenomenon primarily associated with the reflection or refraction of sunlight by small ice crystals making up cirrus or cirrostratus clouds. Often, two sun dogs can be seen (one on each side of the sun) simultaneously.

Sundogs typically, but not exclusively, appear when the sun is low, e.g. at sunrise and sunset, and the atmosphere is filled with ice crystal forming cirrus clouds, but diamond dust and ice fog can also produce them. They are often bright white patches of light looking much like the sun or a comet, and occasionally are confused with those phenomena. Sometimes they exhibit a spectrum of colours, ranging from red closest to the sun to a pale bluish tail stretching away from the sun. White sundogs are caused by light reflected off of atmospheric ice crystals, while colored sundogs are caused by light refracted through them. White sundogs are also thought to be caused by the light from the sun reflecting off of water on the ground and focusing the reflected light on the clouds above.

Paranormal: Any event or object that defies scientific explanation or knowledge.
Anomolous Phenomena

Paranormal: Any event or object that defies scientific explanation or knowledge.

Anomolous Phenomena: Phenomena that science, in its present state of knowledge, is unable to explain.

Xenonormal: Infamiliar occurences that have a natural and rational explination.

Everyone is familiar with the word paranormal, but how many of the people who know the word actually know what paranormal means?

When a person experiences phenomena that they cannot explain, the phenomena seems to be classed as paranormal without a second thought. This however may not always be the case. Paranormal phenomena is an event or object that cannot be rationalised using the known rules of science.

However, every single individual walking on this planet today has a different range of knowledge than the next, and so the instant naming of anomolous phenomena as paranormal phenomena is often wrong. Just because the person who experiences the phenomena cannot explain what caused their experience it doesn't necessarily mean that there isn't a natural cause for it.

Someone else - such as a paranormal researcher, might be able to point out exactly what the cause for the experience was.

The phenomena in question would then be classed as Xenonormal phenomena. Infamiliar occurences that have a natural cause.

Lets take an example:

Mr Bloggs is travelling home one evening when he spots four or five orange glowing objects in the sky above him. They are travelling in a straight line at the same speed and slowly just vanish from sight.

Instantly Mr Bloggs is unable to explain what they were. He knows they were not a plane, bird or any sort of aircraft as there was no noise and he has never seen anything like it before.

Mr Bloggs classes the anomolous phenomena he has just seen as paranormal phenomena because he cannot explain it - he thinks he has seen a UFO.

However, when he gets home later that night and excitedly tells his brother what he had seen on his journey home his brother shakes his head and informs him that a friend of his was having a party a few miles away and they were planning on letting some chinese lanterns off to start the evening.

My Bloggs didn't know about chinese lanterns and so classed the phenomena as paranormal, when infact it was xenonormal.

It is important not to jump ahead of oneself and label something as paranormal just because you cannot explain it. Rely on your peers who may have some knowledge from their past experiences or research - they may just surprise you with a valid explination.

The company of friends is the best remedy after a long and tiring workweek. Mix in some alcohol and music and you've got the potential for a great night. There are, however, a few interesting phenomena that seem to occur during these nights. (I am the first to admit I've been guilty)

"I got you next time." This deceiving line can be used in many ways. You walk to a bar and realize there is a $5 cover charge. Run and hide from your cheap friends. They may offer to buy you a drink once you walk through the door, but don't let their half-assed attempt to make even fool you. Sometimes you are lucky and get the drink, but most of the time you don't. Gyros, cab rides, late night plumber calls to fix empty pipes... It comes in many forms and it is 100% unavoidable.

What about those outlandish plans for next weekend? Trips to NYC, gambling treks to Windsor, boogie boarding at Myrtle Beach!? People seem to forget they already have plans for next weekend altogether! Weddings, concerts, and bachelor parties all seem to be wiped from memories and datebooks BlackBerrys (Does the brand name change in plural form? BlackBerries?). The ideas are usually so good that you don't care what you have planed. Imagine what would happen if everyone kept those promises. I would be extremely tan and extremely broke.

I do my best to not keep tabs when stuff like this happens. Everyone I hang out with is extremely generous with what they have so it always ends up coming back in one way or another. A beer here, some food there, it always works out. And "next weekend" is always amazing, in Columbus or any other city, so I have no complaints there.

By the way, anyone got an extra ticket to see Juelz and Jim Jones this weekend? I got you next time!

(Thanks to Mickey and Andy for the amazing photo!)

Well, I originally put this up as a main page, but since most of this is going to change later on anyway, and it's not going to be a priority for a while, it's been demoted to a mere post. Oh well :-)

Although published the following would be fiction, or a nonfiction novel at best, the following book is in fact an autobiographical account of the more mystical (for lack of a better word) side of myself. Due to its fundamental nature and premise, this book is written more metaphorically than anything else.

Although I cannot confirm this anymore than the main character, I have the same conviction as that character that these things are indeed the truth. I strongly believe that the each letter of which the Bible is composed, the writings of Joanne Greenberg, as well as others throughout history, have shared similar experiences as myself, albeit some of which the source of these varies, and even conflicts with.

Although I cannot possibly expect anyone to believe any the above, I’m confident that science-fiction and fantasy lovers alike should full appreciate the Essence of the Soul, and its sequels (which there most definitely will be)

*Note there will be a quite a bit of editing (once I get around to it), particularly in the first half- so “stay tuned”*

Essence Of The Soul

by Justin Benjamin

By which method can one determine reality? We have guides all around us, things like the senses, logic, and the perceptions of those around us, but does it not vary from person to person, even if only the slightest? In addition, with all honesty we can only accept that this reality we are bound by is wholly attributed to the past. What if reality was something to be discovered, is something to be explored? Most choose to leave those questions unanswered, and accept the reality created by the past. Some indulge in determining their own fate, but “in reality” are still bound by the same legacy; many of these would not realize this even if they were told, because the vast majority of the rules bestowed upon us are painfully unsaid. It would seem that this would sum up all those that are governed by this antiquity in one way or another, But let us not forget the select few that make the choice to abandon these limitations and create their own reality- although some do not yet know they have made the choice.

Chapter 1- The mysterious piano

In the the elevator of Congress Library’s Madison Building, all inside were backed against the walls, most of which seemed to be holding their breath…except one. Was this person dangerous? No. Did he have a deadly illness that was highly contagious. Most definitely not. But Jason Thomas did have a quality that seemed a novelty in this day and age- His life was not influenced by society in any way, shape or form. In fact, he actually influenced society. Not only that- his disconnection from the rules of society even extends to his ideas about life. To put it bluntly, he believes what he want to believe, and his logic is highly original. It should be noted that having a logic as unique as this prohibits believing in something that anyone but him came up with, which of course means he does not believe in Big Foot, aliens, and other supernatural phenomena that have echoes through the centuries.

However, this does not explain why all but himself are against the wall, barely drawing breath. Well, the answer to this is comparably simple- He had simply casually mentioned that he had a deadly and contagious disease, and went on to explain the details, endlessly (to those around him) building upon the fearful visual. Within the first 30 seconds, there was no doubt in anyone’s mind that he indeed had the disease, and furthermore, was mentally unstable. Jason is actually one of the most honest people you’d ever meet, and probably is the most candid. That being said, how could he lie so convincingly? The answer would shock most, so try to keep an open mind- He can because he is so honest. Now before you get worked up about this paradox, Let me explain: Jason’s honesty allowed him to realize that reality cannot be defined, or if it can that definition is not static. Thus, because at least one version of reality involves him having a deadly and highly contagious disease, He could easily believe it and cause others to as well. In truth, however, for him to get sick was so rare a thing that some may call it an omen. He could count the times he’d been sick in his life on his fingers.

Jason loved playing mind-games, although sometimes he loathed this about himself- people don’t like others to mess with their heads, and so at times this hobby of his resulted in social isolation. The habit was so hard to break (since it’s so damn fun), so he gave up trying to break it, although he still thinks about it on occasion. He also didn’t care much for what people think about his actions. Not that he didn’t take other’s thoughts into consideration, but usually he found that his original thoughts were best. That’s the kind of person he is. You could say that most of the time he just took in others’ perspectives as a courtesy. Understandably, sometimes he wondered why he even bothered.

Now they had reached the first floor, and as the doors opened, all those inside scrambled out like bats out a cave. Jason gave himself a moment to take in the pleasantly comic scene, and then proceeded to head home. Pulling of acts like this are actually a daily occurrence for him, so you might wonder at what kind of person he is, having that much time on his hands. The truth may surprise you- the reason he has that much time on his hands is because pulling off acts like this is his job! Now as convenient as this may sound, most of the work isn’t that easy. Sure he got to indulge in his favorite hobby, but that was only for ten minutes of each work day. The rest of the time, he wrote notes, analyzed data, researched statistics. These were all the things that he was good at, so I guess you could say it was the perfect job for him. The results of his work have a significant impact on the future of society, and he knows it- but the goals that he has in mind far exceed even that. Well, that being said, even Jason is not yet fully aware of the extent of his goals; much of this is still buried in his subconscious, waiting to be discovered.

After Jason got home, he received a call on his cell immediately after stepping out of the call. He heard the familiar trance tone he selected, and immediately knew that it was someone he did not know. The reason why he chose trance for these cases were that both trance music and the idea of getting calls from random people were both very exciting to him. Perhaps his anticipation was correct in this case…

But in this case it was someone he did know- it was his good friend Tony.

“Bet you were wondering who was calling, huh?” he remarked.

“Well actually, my cell just died, so I had to use the pay phone. I knew I should’ve replaced it by now, and speak of the devil!” Jason grinned.

“Well anyways, listen- there’s these rumors going around about this mysterious piano. But these aren’t the everyday rumors- no one has any actual information on it, and we all know if it was made up, someone would be a better job. I thought you’d want to check it out. Me personally, well you know me- I’m not the one interested in that stuff. Why don’t you check it out?”

“You read my mind- hey Tony, did I ever tell you I have something of a hobby for playing piano?”

“No, you haven’t. That being the case, what kept you from telling me until now?” Tony asked.

“Don’t be silly- I just said it’s something of a hobby. You know well that my other hobbies are a whole lot more that something. The truth is, I just never got around to telling you, or even thought about it. I was too preoccupied with those other hobbies, as I’m sure you understand.”

“Ok you got me, I give!” They both laugh. “Okay, I won’t give away any spoilers, I know you wouldn’t like that. The address is at 828 PROSPECT PL, 53703- so yeah, it’s pretty near here. So I’ll leave things at that- I’ll catch you later then.”

Tony was more than a friend, he was a brother to Jason. Actually, he didn’t follow the philosophy of ‘blood’s thicker than water.’ Sure there is an undeniably convincing amount of history behind family bonds, But that was about the only thing that could support that type of thinking in his mind. Plus Jason never really spent much time with his family, so he didn’t know any of them at all. One exception was his cousin Joy. But the ironic thing about it was that neither he nor any of his immediate family knew of her existence until after he had reached the age of majority. To this day, he still didn’t know much about her, but he kind of liked it that way- so Jason didn’t press her about her past.

So Jason got in the car, and headed down to the address he and Tony discussed, but halfway down there, something changed. he didn’t know what it was, but was sure that it was important. It was a bit surprising, because there is the inevitable question “How could I know that something changed if I don’t even have the slightest idea of what it might be?” But instead of worrying about this question, he marveled at it- and kept his mind occupied with what it might be. Not for long though- because soon he found such an engrossing thing was too dangerous while driving.

Upon reaching the place, Jason suddenly became aware of the location of the piano, as well as the things surrounding it…all while not knowing why. This is getting to be very interesting! he thought, but if he had been able to see into the future, I doubt he would have said that. Not that is wouldn’t be very interesting, but that just those words wouldn’t cover it. But not only was he aware of the piano, but he felt drawn to it- no just from interest, but almost magnetically. As he approached the piano, a song ran through his head- a beautiful song, no only that he’d never heard, but in a language he was sure was not from this earth. But at the same time the voice in the song did maintain an air of humanity. He felt a growing sense of calm at first, but just as a color spectrum blends together tones that normally clash, The feeling shifted to a a growing passion, melancholy, and ecstasy, as well as others. Awed by the utter splendor of the song, and the undeniable power it possessed, Jason was speechless. He had always be the inquisitive type- but never until now had the questions been so numerous, or so profound. He wanted answers, and knew there was probably only one way to find them.

So he sat at the bench, and began playing the song running through his head. This was not a problem, since Jason was an expert at improvisation. As he began to play, the voice began to changed to blend in harmony with the original song. Upon realizing this, Jason decided to take the challenge and concentrate on improvising the original part. The resulting piece was, quite frankly, out of this world; pity it wasn’t recorded. As he continued to play, Jason began to see a shadow taking form beside him. This must be the owner of the voice, he thought. He was determined to learn more about this person, the secret behind the beauty of her voice, and how she was related to the mysterious piano, and the supernatural aura surrounding it. With that motivation, Jason continued playing with passion worthy of recognition. The shadow grew in clarity, and eventually took the form of what seemed to be female- but the bright and warm glow made it clear that she was not human. But at that point, the song drew to an end. At that moment, she began to fade. But before she had completely disappeared, he distinctly heard her say a few parting words.

“For the past few centuries, I have been trapped within this…piano. Well, at least that’s what it is now…I don’t have time to explain. I have been very lonely here, and you not only freed me from this prison, but helped me to remember the joy of the simple things in live. In thanks, I will bestow upon you some of the mysteries of the world.”

With those words, she vanished completely, and to his great surprise, the piano along with her. At this point, Jason had a whole lot of questions and no answers, and he thought that quite ironic, especially since she had said that she would bestow upon him mysteries of the world. At least from th surface, it was quite the opposite- she had bestowed him the first mystery he had not solved…Well, of those that he had actually tried to- there are more mysteries than the whole world could even hope to solve in their lives. This being the case, it was clear to him that her words extended beyond human knowledge, and the truth would probably come with time.

So with that thought in mind, Jason decided to let the truth find him, and began to make his way back home. But even that being said, he was so absorbed in thought, he neglected to call Tony back, and when he decided to call Jason to see what was up- from the outside one could assume he was ignoring it. Finally, Jason heard it- and the shock could have driven him out of his skin if it were loosely attached (which fortunately it was not).

“Hey Jason, what’s up? I was getting worried about you man- with you not calling and then all this time I’ve been calling you- I’ve been worried sick about you.”That was an exaggeration, but it was true that Tony was worried. After all, there isn’t a decent friend out there who wouldn’t be/

“Yeah, sorry about that- I’ve been really deep in thought. Like you said, it really wasn’t an ordinary mystery. Hey listen, sorry to do this to you, but can we wait till tomorrow to talk about it?”

“No problem- don’t worry about it. That’s my job. Well, guess I’ll be looking forward to the details in anticipation. Hey listen- take care of yourself, okay?”

“I’ll do that- thanks for your concern.” The truth is, Jason didn’t know why he felt the need to put off the talk. It’s true that he was confused, but there was more to it than that. Something told him that he would be best off doing it that way. Perhaps the beginning of the revelations of which the unknown woman (”it”?) was referring. Well, it could have been just wishful thinking, but in this case Jason might not have been relatively close to the truth- or, perhaps the absence of it.

As he lay in bed, Jason was overwhelmed with what seemed to be a trance. Well, not that he would know, not having even been in one- but it was at least exactly what he imagined one to be. But as he “smoldered” in a daze, he became engrossed in the dancing of lights in the shadows of him apartment. He felt a mix of peace, ecstasy, and…Suddenly Jason realized that these all these feelings and the way they blended was exactly the same at it had just hours before while he was listening to the voice, and playing the piano in harmony with it. With that realization, he broke out of the trance instantaneously, and in the same moment realized that under normal circumstances, lights would not dance in the shadows at night.

Moments after that, he heard a voice speaking out to him. At first the words sounded like gibberish, and had a more chaotic tone, but intuitively he took the initiative and forcefully calmed himself. Then, he reasoned that since this voice was in his head, in order to communicate he had to speak on its terms, which in this case was telepathic.

Who are you? I somehow feel that you are close to me, but at the same time far away. Please help me to understand what is going on.

In all honesty, Jason was not even aware of that much until that instant. It was as if at the very moment that he established communication, a small glimpse of the truth had been revealed to him all at once. That, and he was also able to respond under those pretexts at the same time. Well, perhaps it was a bit different, but there are only so many explanations available, considering that the time frame is limited to milliseconds.

I am very surprised that we are even able to communicate- this has never happened before. Not in the trillions of years that we have existed. I know everything about you- but, as it is to be expected, you know nothing about me. Normally universal law states that we are not to enlighten humans of the true nature of things, or about their connection to ourselves. But it seems that another of our kind has already done so- and, as is the nature of these things, there is no going back. I don’t know if this is for better or worse, but if you don’t mind I plan to take full advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity.

At these words, Jason became exhausted, and once again fell into a trance. When he finally came to, he was in a world unlike any other. Next to him was a man, glowing with the same radiance of that of the woman that night, and also taking a similar form. Rather than questioning his surrounding (he knew better) Jason took the initiative and began the introductions. “Since you know everything about me, it’s only fair that I know a bit about you. let’s start with your name.”

“Good question- and the answer is not so simple. Souls- if that is what you would call us, do not have names. The reason for this is that we could not bear to taken on such superficial traditions. Instead, we prefer to familiarize ourselves with each other’s auras-the signature or dna of each individual soul. This is especially appropriate since we only communicate telepathically.”

“On that note, I noticed that right now we are not using that method, but instead as “humans” do. Explain to me how this works.”

“Ah, yes, of course! See, I’ve enveloped us in an illusion for your convenience- seeing as how it can be a bit awkward, if not disconcerting for one such as yourself to communicate in the “normal” manner.

“One more thing…-” he was cut off. “Perhaps it would be better if I read your mind and give you all the answers in an instant.”

“That would be quite convenient…ok go right ahead.”

In that moment Jason learned of this place, of the connection between souls, and several things were cleared up with the answers he was given. To be safe, the soul only informed him of the bare essentials, partly because the development of the human brain was a group effort- and as such no single person had an completely accurate understanding of it. Another reason was because communicating with humans directly, although has happened, only happens about once every 100 years, and only in special circumstance. Thus, the nature of such communication is fundamentally experimental.

The place in which they were currently “conversing” was a middle-ground between dimensions, the realities of souls and of humans. This soul, which prior to these events had been assigned to him, was able to take Jason here using dreams as a catalyst. The reason why it could be done in this way is because this area was the closest to the human psyche- and as such could be reached by an ordinary human while dreaming. At some some point in their life, most humans actually have crossed over to the dimension of souls- but because it is a dream, few if any have ever been able to realize understand, or believe this knowledge- simply because “it was only a dream.” This place is conveniently also the best place for humans to exchange thoughts on a subconscious level, which of course is the best way to exchange thoughts- because there is no better way to ensure applying knowledge effectively.

Even a stranger with an untrained eye would see this place as a utopia, and Jason, a well-prepared and open-minded individual, could fully appreciate the magnificence of it all. He scanned the area, demonstrating uninhibited admiration. But before he had more than a glimpse, He collapsed exhausted in the radiant depths.

What seemed an eternity later (which is clearly disconcerting, considering that he had been in a dream-state for the previous encounter) he heard a faint voice in the darkness, whispering with a voice comforting, but also stern and serious…

You must understand- the others are not aware of these circumstances, so we must act with caution, to avoid a conflict. If such a dilemma were to arise, I may not be able to save you…

Jason thought he recognized the voice-it sounded vaguely familiar. But his mind was in chaos and struggled to retrieve the most minor of details. He wanted to speak, to ask the voice if he knew it (or him), but the words would not come out. He was helpless.

The others have already discovered your presence- A moment more and you would have been completely assimilated. Humans like yourself would not survive such a process, it’s fortunate that I sensed the trouble in time.

Jason recounted his thoughts. The last thing he remembered was Tony recommending a mysterious piano worth investigating…Jason went over there, but what happened next? He could not remember, and his head was throbbing…

You seem to have experienced side effects of the partial assimilation. Well, this is to be expected…

At that moment, Jason felt a jolt so violent that he thought that his body would go into shock. He was then thrust into a dimension that defied any concept of understanding. He was completely lost in confusion as he drifted weightlessly, surrounded by translucent bubbles composed of matter shifting and fluctuating at such a rate that any single form did not reveal itself long enough to be properly assessed by even the keenest of minds. If his head had felt ready to split prior to this, that pain had somehow grown exponentially, exceeding any and all concepts of “unbearable”. Still unable to speak, Jason desperately called out to anyone, anything that might ease his pain, give him peace. At this point he was sure that he had gone mad, or that his life was about to come to an end.

Then with the same abrupt nature as the first wave, a second wave permeated Jason. This one was of the same overwhelming intensity, but the suffering was replaced with the ecstasy, and the pain with pleasure. The torture that he had previously experienced, which possessed the mysterious quality of seeming both an eternity and a moment, was replaced with this antithesis that only paralleled in terms of magnitude and brilliance. What’s more, earlier half of this phenomenon had begun to slip from his mind. It first began with his mind becoming clouded, and those once vivid details losing their clarification. Then he began to doubt that these feelings had ever actually existed- possessing quality more akin to wisps of smoke than reliable tangibility. Finally he became aware of these shifts of judgments, and desired for these feelings to recover, that he may understand in full the significance of them. There was a great sorrowful aura present amid that of great joy, and such a combination presented itself as being of the utmost importance.

As he relentlessly struggled towards finding the reason and underlying meaning of all this, a third wave pulled Jason away from it, and the ensuing exchange of willpower threatened to consume his body, if it were not ravaged to dust first. Then a miracle occurred…

A familiar voice called out without words, beckoning Jason to yield, and with such sincerity that he could not refuse. Jason obliged, and was subsequently swept away in the torrent of ceaseless chaos, until finally he experienced what would be the final wave. As he braced himself in foreboding of the eminent intensity, he was taken off guard by an incredible passivity, devoid of all passion. As he zoned in further though, seeking any underlying details in hopes of reaching a better understanding, the wave balanced out, and weaved in and out of itself with a likeness reminiscent of a strand of Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), the building block and blueprint of life itself. After having realized this, a melody reached his ears; resounding notes blended together in harmony, reaching out from the depths of oblivion. Or rather than blended, they seemed to be independently joined, but how could this be? After speculating on this, Jason became aware that these notes were in fact parts of one being, although he himself could never understand why, despite having no conscious reason for coming this conclusion, this seemed to be an indisputable truth, devoid of all doubt. At this point Jason had finally become relaxed, and completely alert, and attended to his instinctual desire to better understand his surroundings- namely the melody. But it soon became obvious that this was not necessary, as the melody, and entity thereof, was prepared to divulge all that he needed- or rather, wanted to know regarding the nature of these things, and- more importantly, the Essence Of The Soul.I’ve finally reached you…

Jason’s surroundings began to contort, that is, if contortion of such substance was possible. He felt himself being pulled…carried by something like wind. Reality itself had redefined itself, so it was futile to be sure of anything. Somehow, that gave him a feeling of peace, and even more of satisfaction. Where did these feelings come from, they were ones that Jason was sure he had never felt in response to such circumstances. Normally he would have been confused, anxious, upset, and others of a similar negative nature. In such chaotic circumstances, that would be only natural. But he was not questioning these irregularities out of concern, but out of curiosity. Like never before, he longed to understand all that he could of this being, feeling a bond so strong that it seemed inseparable, to such a point that even time possessed not the power to break it. And yet he also knew not why he could have such confidence in these things, having no actual knowledge of any of these surroundings, much less the entity enveloping him. As Jason pondered these things pensively, he finally took a moment to once again reexamine his surroundings, and was taken off guard: The entity had wrapped him in something like a cocoon, which he now floated weightlessly in comfortably.

There are many things to explain; the excitement of it all, of our meeting is a blessing- I have long anticipated this, and finally…

He now became aware that, although he understood these thoughts as if they were words, and of his language…In truth he was hearing the words in two different ways- the way that this being best understood, and that which he best understood. The more that Jason listened, the more that he sensed the blending of their understanding. At first they were two different languages, embedded in one stream, but as their thoughts flowed freely, they came together as one. Their thoughts had begun to merge…

I see that you have realized it- the nexus that has brought us together…kept us together…allowed us to harmonize so beautifully!

Without a doubt, this was indeed the case; Jason was sure this must be the case- it was without doubt in his mind, after contemplating on the underlying harmony and consonance weaved into their communication. But at the same moment he realized this, he felt an incredible, mysterious attraction to this being. Was this passion? No. Was it instinct? Most definitely not. Although he knew it would be exceedingly difficult to grasp the meaning of it all, it was clear that becoming one with this entity was a necessity, with the reason why seeming minuscule in comparison with the need, which commanded such an urgency that could not be ignored or disregarded.

All of this time, Jason had been remarkably silent, something he knew was out of character for him. He had become content with merely observing, and why? The answer came to him instantaneously- it was because he was dumbstruck by the breathtaking and surreal nature of his surroundings, which clearly defied any concept of reality to which he had ever adhered to or even heard of before. At first, he concluded that he had discovered the answer to he question by means of deductive reason or logic, but the entity cut off his thoughts…

No, the answer you have received was not, as it may seem, the product of your own reasoning- although this itself also was a gift to your kind, and it may have assisted in the dilemma we now face. I have bestowed to you the gift of knowing the answer to any inquiry regarding the underlying reason of anything- That is, any time you ask “Why?” you shall know. Now you will forget all of these happenings, and those things that played a role in our meeting shall remain forgotten. This is a necessity, that which is meant to be, and so it shall be. In time, however, you shall recover your memory of these things; when the time is right you will know. Your journey will be long and filled with troubles, but without a doubt you will find the Essence of the Soul. When you finally find it, all that was hidden will be revealed- though there is much in the world that is hidden but not known; the reason that life is worth living is indeed because we will never know all the answers.

The word paranormal combines two words “para” or beyond and normal. It’s the stu

The word paranormal combines two words "para" or beyond and normal. It's the study of things that seem to defy scientific explanation. Really, there are plenty of things in science this heading might encompass - For decades, the neutrino, a subatomic particle with little to no mass, defied our human understanding of how particles function, but you didn't see scientists labeling the activity "beyond normal." Paranormal research began in at the turn of the last century as a way to study extra-sensory perception, or ESP. Today paranormal research groups study everything from psychic phenomena like telepathy to channeling to ghosts to astrology. In other words, literally anything beyond normal.

I had always thought of the word differently: para as in parallel or a world or concept parallel to our laws of binding our physical universe. I thought of paranormal as the research enveloping all things non-physical. I'd still like to think of it as a science with the same approach to all things scientific - using hypothesis, conducting experiments, gathering evidence, conjecturing, debunking, etc.

Poltergeist phenomena is my favorite. Found in nearly all cultures and religious groups, the activity of the "noisy ghost" is widely reported and documented. So are hallucinations. And yet, a single poltergeist event can be witnessed/encountered by multiple people, so I put more validity into claims of this activity. As a child, I experienced something that would be defined as poltergeist activity. I don't feel silly admitting this because I believe strongly there is a valid explanation for these experiences.

In my opinion, we don't have to believe in the supernatural, to better understand the paranormal. In talking with people, I've found most have some story to share - even the skeptics - of something they just can't explain. And yet, they all share a desire to find some explanation.

Modern day ghost-hunters invest a good deal of time and money into capturing evidence of paranormal activity. Whether actual ghosts or residual energy, these pseudo scientists employee EMF meters to measure electric-magnetic fields, recording devices to record "EVPs" or electronic-voice phenomena, infrared and thermal cameras to measure and capture movements or sudden changes in temperature in a room and other tools to assist the investigators with seeing in the dark.

When I first met a "ghost-hunter," I had a lot of questions and I wasn't very polite about asking. Questions like, "Isn't hanging around grave-yards cliche?" or "Don't you think walking around houses in the dark is a good way to scare up experiences that might not occur in broad daylight?"

These questions were quickly answered. Graveyards tend to make people uncomfortable at night so investigators take new people there to see how they handle fear. Okay, makes sense, but why the dark? I was told this was the quiet time and it was more likely you would capture genuine activity than during the day. There are just too many noises during the day and investigators prefer to turn off any unnecessary electronics to avoid EMF interference. Hence, dark places at night.

I'm actually more impressed than anything getting to know people who study ghosts on the side. They're not crazy as I expected. They're not charging people money to do bogus investigations. I was told if someone charges for their work, beware. Most investigators will do anything to discredit their own findings because they know these findings will be equally scrutinized by any skeptic. Still, the fact remains, if you haven't experienced the paranormal, can you ever really believe it?

Then again, I've never seen a neutrino, but I am no less a believer.

Crop circles generally appear within 20 to 120 minutes. Scientists have examined the cellular structure of where the stalks are bent, and they are enlarged on a molecular level.

A noise can often be heard as the crop circle is formed.

Most of the crop circles in the world occur in one county (Wiltshire) in the UK.

The one thing people agree on is, "They are a form of intelligence".

The news that scientists have said the North pole this summer may be Ice Free is now a few days old. However having seen the headline again, I'd like to comment.

North Pole may have ice-free summer
Sat, 28 Jun 2008 22:53:26

Leading American ice scientists say there is a fifty percent possibility that the North Pole will experience its first ice-free summer.

www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=61847&sectionid=3510208

What I wonder is Schauberger (an undisputed authority on water) said that rivers (in the Northern Hemisphere) when they get to the sea head north to the north pole to cool down. Water is always trying to reach its most dense state -4 degrees Centigrade.

Why do rivers flowing into cold seas migrate laterally to the north?

Victor Schauberger
http://merlib.org/mirror/frank.germano.com/viktorschauberger_2

This aspect (the rivers melting the pole) is never cited in ecology arguments. Our rivers must be warming up from industry. And I wonder how much nuclear energy heats up the water. The water cooling and steam generation from Nuclear Power is absolutely fundamental to its functioning.

More on Schauberger at his home page: http://www.pks.or.at
And here are some more of his statements, just to wet your appetite. And these are from the merlib.org link above:

RIVERS
Why do west-to-east flowing watercourses fertilize their banks?

Why are the banks of east-to-west flowing rivers so barren?

Why are the banks of south-to-north flowing watercourses fertile on one side only?

Why do rivers flowing into cold seas migrate laterally to the north?

Why do deltas and estuaries develop?

Why does a trout stand still in a raging torrent, as if by magic?

Why does a top stand upright when it is spun from the side?

I think most (if not all) of the above quotes are from the book Nature As Teacher part 2 Schauberger.

Besides his major cosmological idea of the constancy of the speed of light Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity also included another concept called the relativity of simultaneity. This second concept means that everyone experiences simultaneity differently from his or her own frame of reference.

As an example, someone walking through the streets of a city will experience new things successively. However, a person looking down at that same city from the top of a mountain will see all the things happening on its streets below simultaneously. The same thing happens when the person on a city street gazes upward at the mountain. He or she will see everything that is happening on top of the mountain simultaneously.

Amazingly, more than a hundred fifty years before Einstein’s famous theory, Emanuel Swedenborg had made use of these very same ideas of frame of reference and the relativity of simultaneity beyond mere observation of physical phenomena. He applied these concepts to describe the operations of the human intellect and spirit.

In his great work Rational Psychology (1742) he applies these very same concepts to discrete human cognitive functions, such as physical eyesight, memory and its imagination, rational thought, and finally, spiritual revelation. Each of these functions represents a distinct kind of “seeing” and function as distinct observers whose frames of reference come from different dimensions.

Therefore, information that had entered successively through a person’s eyes is seen simultaneously in the memory through its imagination (mind’s eye). The imagination can look upon all things of the memory in the same way someone can see everything down in the city from a mountain. From this higher vantage point (frame of reference) the relative simultaneous function of imagination can then combine things seen by the eye into more abstract combinations. This leads to ingenuity and creativity.

From a higher frame of reference, the rational mind can look simultaneously at all the things we have ever imagined and combine them into higher rational ideas – like ideas concerning justice and ethics. Whereas imagination abstracts things seen in the physical world, rational thought starts with the abstractions of the imagination. So rational thought takes us from worldly cleverness to acquiring the judgment of truth (which partakes of one’s character and life-choices).

Above the cognitive function of reasoning and judgment, there is another “observer” with an even higher frame of reference. This higher, spiritual mind can simultaneously observe all our best reasoning and from its greater vantage point recognize universal and eternal truths.

So in Swedenborg’s multi-level theory of cognitive function, we are given examples of the relativity of simultaneity operating beyond the spacetime continuum and representing discrete mental functions operating in different dimensions.

However, in order for a higher mental function to operate simultaneously relative to a lower one (like between imagination and reasoning), speeds of operation and signal transfer must even surpass the velocity of light. This insight will someday change our whole outlook on the causal structure of space.

In my next book, Proving God, I will show that Swedenborg added new constants and invariables to cosmology, which generate the layered scaffolding of reality. This top-down order manifests in both the discrete structure of space and the hierarchical structure of the human brain and mind.

From these ideas I hope to show the way to a correct theory of quantum gravity, which includes metaphysical assumptions about the nature of reality.

I discovered the answer yesterday, when I saw it with my very own eyes. I first saw it happen some twenty plus years ago. For the life of me, I couldn't figure it out. The first time I saw it, I got irritated. I had even asked my then-husband, "What the heck's wrong with you?" He just stared at me, confused, not knowing how to answer. It happened many, many, many times after that, with other men. It has even happened to my son!

Over the years, I stopped trying to figure it out. Stopped asking, "Why?" I just gave in and dealt with it. I still wondered, though, why this strange phenomena was only affecting men, and not women? At least, no woman I had ever known had been affected by this.

So, yesterday, I was in the kitchen and I saw the answer with my very own eyes. There I was, having just finished doing all the dishes. I was admiring my clean kitchen, my now empty sink. And then it happened. My boyfriend walked into the kitchen, with a plate in his hand. He stood in front of the sink. Plate in hand, his arm hovered over the sink. At this point, it was like time took on a slow-motion quality. I watched him struggle to put his arm down, therefore laying the plate in the sink. But he couldn't do it! It was like something was stopping him! Then I saw his arm slowly move to the left of the sink, where he proceeded to set the plate down on the counter. I looked at him, looked at the plate, looked at the sink. And that's when it hit me. There was an invisible force-field over the sink!! Upon my realization, time sped up to normal again, and I looked at my boyfriend. He turned to me, smiled, and walked out of the room. He didn't know! I thought to myself. I waved my hand over the sink a few times, trying to feel anything. But feeling nothing there. Perplexed, I backed up and watched the sink. If there was some kind of mysterious energy field there, I just had to be able to see it, or feel it, somehow. But still, nothing.

I left the kitchen and went to sit at my desk, deep in thought. My mind raced back through the years, seeing all over again the men I had known who had been afflicted by this. It all made sense! This force-field only affected men! But WHY?! I have yet to figure out that answer, but maybe one day I will. Or maybe some brilliant scientist will, and she'll share it with the world. I looked over at my boyfriend, debating on whether or not to tell him about my discovery. But I hesitated. In all his life, he'd never questioned the force-field himself. Maybe he didn't want to know. Maybe he thought he was the only one. I decided against telling him. But then I wondered if I should tell my son! Maybe I could help my son before it was too late! But, no, it had already hit him, too, hadn't it? I saw it myself. My grandson - he's only 2! Surely, this mysterious thing can't have affected him already. I needed to call my daughter and inform her! So I did. "Mom," she said sympathetically, "I already know about the force-field. And you're too late. Your grandson has already been infected. I'm doing everything I can to reverse it, but it doesn't seem to help." I hung up the phone and sat there, thinking.

What's a woman to do? I thought. I came up with the only conclusion I could find. To just not say anything to the men in my life, for fear of upsetting them. Breathing in deeply, I resigned myself to helping these men. I vowed that from that moment on, whenever a man in my house couldn't put his dirty dish in the sink, and had to set it on the counter instead, I would keep my silence. I would just pick up the dish and set it gently in the sink. For mankind, I would do that. I stood up and walked into the kitchen. Letting out a tiny sigh, I picked up the plate and set it in the sink. I walked back into the livingroom, kissed my boyfriend lightly on the cheek, and went about the rest of my chores.

I wanted to share this discovery of mine with all the rest of the women out there. For those that don't already know about the force-field. You can try to do what you will to change it, but I fear that there truly is no hope. If any woman out there has any suggestions to a cure, please do let me know!

I spent most of last week watching the recent Dario Argento DVD collection by Anchor Bay. Since your dying to know my opinion, read on:

Phenomena

This movie takes a while to get going, but its worth it for the last 20 minutes. If this isn't Jennifer Connelly's first big screen role, it's got to be close. Donald Pleasence plays bug expert that's a cross between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Professor X. Connelly plays a young a girl with the power to control bugs. This actually comes in handy when your using insect behavior to catch a killer. Again, the best parts don't come until the end, but we do get some pretty good scares if you can wait for them.

Trauma

Wow, there's some dark stuff going on here. This has to be one of the few horror films that deals with Anorexia.

Like most Argento movies, it runs about 10-15 minutes too long, and there's a false ending that just seems to go on forever until we have the real climax. Still, if there was an award for most disturbing motive for a killer, this would win. Asia Argento is pretty good in this, and even has a sex scene that I have to assume was directed by her dad... ewwwww!

Tenebre

For some reason, I never consider Argento's films to be overly gory, but Tenerebre actually has quite a bit of the red stuff.

The tale of a killer copying murder scenes from a book has everything I want from Eurohorror: Blood, gratuitous nudity and bad dubbing. I must admit, the ending is ridiculously convoluted, but, did I mention gratuitous nudity?

Do You Like Hitchcock

You know, I kinda enjoyed this. It probably would have been better served as a 60 minute Masters of Horror episode. Still, there was enough boobs and blood to keep me happy. Probably helps I actually am a Hitchcock fan

The Card Player

A killer forces the police to play video poker for the lives of kidnapped women. Once the card playing stops, the killer resorts to some SAW like death traps.

One problem with The Card Player is video poker, even with lives at stake, is about as suspenseful as watching someone play Qbert. If Do You Like Hitchcock would have made a good Masters of Horror episode, then The Card Player would have been at home on the network friendly Fear Itself as there is little blood or nudity. Not as bad as I'd heard, but definitly the weakest film of the set.

There is no denying the fact that in the English Legal System, the constitutional rule of the judi

There is no denying the fact that in the English Legal System, the constitutional rule of the judiciary is providing to apply law; the purpose of creating law is the prerogative of parliament. This is because one of the aspects of legal reasoning and one which also raises question as to the political persuasion of the judges and the scope they have to exercise that persuasion in their decision in the manner in which they interpret the legislation when they are called upon to do so. However this simplistic view ignores the extent ignores the extent to which the judges have a measure of discretion and the creative power in which they interpret the legislation.

Reputing the notion of parliamentary sovereignty, the first approach will to be adopting the literal approach. Interpretation under this approach demands that made should be given their ordinary simple meaning as far as possible even if the strict literal interpretation may result in injustice and hardship to the literal interpretation. This is because it was felt that the judges will tern into legislation, if for example he added words to a statute in order to achieving result the parliament would have preferred at the time of passing the legislation in question. For over past 100 years the literal approach is the primary tool of the interpreting the legislation. It was believed to be dangerous for the judges to become partners in the process of declaring law because of the unrepresented and unaccountable character of the judiciary. The literal approach has maintained the impartiality of the judges by directing criticism of the bad law to the parliament. It has given the judiciary a stability function ratter than a reforming one.

Although the literal approach is regarded as the humble servant of the parliament, the humble posture is misleading. Same argue that the literal approach is always wrong as it amounts to an abduction of responsibility by the judges. The literates bases his decision on one arbitrarily preferred meaning rather reason and principle (Whitely V Chappell). The literal approach is even though applicable by the judges’ even if the result inflicts hardship on the litigants. ‘Manifest Absurdity’ is the only exception where a canon employed by the literal approach namely golden rule act as an unprotect able safety value which helps the court to bypass the literal rule. The shortcoming of this rule was highlighted in the case of (R V Magginem). However, the courts are not at liberty to use the Golden rule and must find genuine difficulties before it declines the literal rule in famous of the Golden rule. This rule is its narrow application modifies the literal rule to the extent that an alternative meaning is construed which achieves consistency with rest of the statute by the discretion of judge (R V Allan). Assuming that the result of literal approach in the interpretation of the given statute conflicts with the public policy then the broader application of the Golden rule may be applied in order to intervene the adoption of an adenovirus interpretation. There has been judicial reluctance to use the golden rule both in its narrow and broader application in Northman V Barnet London Barough Council. However, Lord Denning, ‘whether a strict interpret ate of a statute give rises to an absurd and inju8st situation, the judges can and should use then good sense to remedy it.’

However, if the result of the interpretation (applying the literal rule) is ambiguous, then departure from the literal rule may be accomplished under the ‘Mischief rule’. This rule originated from the Hey dos case where guidelines were setout for the courts to follow in order to apply it:-

What was the common law before making of the act?

What was the mischief for which the common law did not possible?

What remedy for the mischief the common law has intended to provide?

What was the reason for the parliament adopting the remedy?

These rules enable the court to search for the intention of the parliament by looking at the history of the act in question.

Denning J said, ‘We sit here to find out the intention of the parliament and me do this better by filling in the gaps and making sense of the enactment than by opening it up to destructive analysis. If a gap is disclosed remedy has in amending it.’ He further said, ‘Judicial activism can not amount to a make usurpation of legislative function under the disguise of interpretation.’

If the intention of the parliament can not be found through the mischief rule, then in order to remove the ambiguity the judge is entitled to refer to the Hansard. In the landmark decision of Pepper V Hart, the House of Lords held that, then is no larger abjection of principle to the use of Hans and as an external aid to statutory construction and there were endorsement of a mere purposive approach under which a judge can label by and the literate approach and can discern the parliaments true intention. Regarding the use of Hansard, Lord Bramen Wilkiman believed, provided the court keeps a tight control to the situation where reference to the parliamentary motive one allowed it would be fruitful. But the Attorney General thought, it would be unwise to attach importance to the menstrual explanation which are made to satisfy political requirements after under the presence of time and business. Although reference to Hansard has been taken in the cases like Knowles V Liverpool City Council and LBC Forest V Thomas the reference of it increases the expenses of the litigation. Thus it will really be unwise to use Hansard as an aid to statutory construction.

The UK promulgated such law because a member of European Union by the enactment of the European Community Act 1972, as a result of the treaty the English Judges has to adopt the decision of the ECJ. The judges of ECJ used a very broad and generous approach in the interpretation of the statutory namely the ‘Teleological approach’ revalued by the Continental Lawyers which operates in loosely drafting codes of law which openly invites the judges in the process of framing the law. SarLand V British Railway Engineering, Lord Diploach defended the new approach on the ground that it has introduced a new rule of statutory interpretation requiring a UK court to can true all the domestic legislation in a manner ready European obligation as it has been stated in Sec.2 (4) of the EC Act 1972 that it takes precedent over the domestic law Sec.2 (1) of the Act states that, Treaties and other directly enforceable Community Legislation will be incorporated will no further domestic action. In Sec.2 (2) powers has been provided to the judges to incorporate other community legislation such as ‘Directure’
