The comment was that it is near impossible to buy petrol for his car - it is just soooo expensive at the moment...  I agree that it is expensive, but there is another side to it all...

Due to the stupid increase in the cost of oil, driving your V8 for the sake of it is indeed becoming more and more expensive every month.  And given the mess that the great USA made of the middle east in their attempts to gain control over all the natural resources in the world, this situation is not going to get any better any time soon.  In fact, the comments made by some economists is that the international oil price should be around $250/barrel by middle next year.  This means a petrol price of about R 20/litre in South Africa!!

Makes sense that manufacturers are now finally paying attention to alternative sources of energy to drive our cars...  Inherently nothing wrong with this, but with alternative sources of energy, we are looking at little cars, with little power and tiny wheels - (read crap to drive).  And there is my problem with it all...

Remember the old model T by the great Ford Motor Company way back in the 1920's.  This is how it all started, and it took a considerable amount of time before we had sportscars that could handle well, had enough power to give you whiplash, and generally put a smile of your face when you climbed aboard.  Surely the "New" alternate energy source cars will need to follow the same evolution... We start with crappy little cars with little power, therefore really slow, and BORING, and then we progress over time to Bugatti Veyrons with Huge power using the evolved new energy source.

But by the time we are there, all the new technology has messed with the driving freedom, and we are merely passengers on our environmentally friendly and cheap to run cars.  Speed will be controlled by onboard computers based on the circumstances and road traveled on, following distances will be managed by radar, car will remain in the lane without you having to steer.

So, now that you have the background of where we are, and where we are going, let's look at the other side of the petrol price issue...  petrol is not nearly expensive yet - at the moment we think it is expensive, but soon we will be saying things like "remember when petrol only cost R10 a litre - those were the good old days when we could still enjoy driving".  Not a great outlook, I know, but the point is, maybe it is time for all of us to stop worrying about the future, because when we get there we will realise that what we have today is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME.  Don't wait until it is too late, enjoy the great driving times we are living it, because it is NOT GOING TO LAST.

So go out there, buy the supercar, and drive the living shit out of it while you still can afford petrol for it...

Zwischen Kaltenkirchen und Neumünster gibt es das Hundehotel. Warum es mit aufgefallen ist, liegt am riesigen Sofa mit Hund und Katze, was an der Autobahn steht. Früher stand dieses Sofa auf dem Weg von Hamburg nach Stade am Straßenrand. Dort verschwand es aber für einige Zeit. Vor etlichen Jahren tauchte es dann an der A7 wieder auf.

Anscheinend waren am diesen Sonntag auch Umzüge im Gange. Denn ein IVECO-Transporter, ich wusste gar nicht, dass es noch IVECO gibt, war auf der A7 unterwegs.

Nun, es waren auf der gesamten Strecke erstaunlich viele Pinneberger unterwegs (PI-Kennzeichen). Ich kann mir gar nicht erklären, wo die alle herkommen. Dazu habe ich 3 Unfälle gesehen und stand etwa eine 3/4 Stunde im Stau. Dabei habe ich gehört, wie der FC Bayern Meister geworden ist. Wenigstens war die Sonne da!

Naja um dies mal gebührend zu feiern fahren wir eine Runde mit dem Aston um die Isle of Man.

Nach diesen Statements wird getauscht und natürlich darf ein Rennen nicht fehlen! Moah wenn ich diesen Sound höre ... Gänsehaut!

Und das Ergebnis?

Ich bedanke mich für dieses Jahr bei allen Lesern. Danke für alle Kommentare und für alle Stöckchen (ja ich weiß, es warten noch ein paar ...). Mal sehen, ob ich im nächsten Jahr wieder so viel Zerstreuung brauche.

I watched the last five minutes of the qualifying session on Saturday and I watched the first five minutes of the actual race yesterday, and then I found something more exciting to do, like wait for the paint to dry on my latest effort (I've switched to acrylic painting for a change, the colours are brighter).

Actually the half hour build-up to the GP was better than the five minutes of the race that I watched, seeing Martin Brundle run around the stating grid trying to interview drivers who didn't want anything to do with him was quite funny until he finally gave up and declared "Its back to you Steve (Ryder), I don't think anyone's going to talk to me down here"

I just don't see racing cars as being entertaining in any sort of way whatsoever.

They were quite a good one hit wonder with their single "They Shoot Horses Don't They?" but as a spectacle there are no forms of petrolhead-ism that attract me.

Sure I loved the rally driving that we did last March, and the Karting the month after, but that was me doing it not watching, the watching was boring even at both of those events and I couldn't give a damn who won or who was fastest like all the other geeks did, the fun was in the driving.

I blame it all on my first car.

My first car was an old ladies car, I was 18 years old, I'd just passed my driving test, I was threatening to buy myself a motorbike, my dad saw "a man" at his club and he came home with an old £300 car for me one Saturday morning, and Austin 1300 Vanden Plas.

The Austin 1300 was a fairly boring family car of the 1960's in the style of all family cars of that era, designed by unimaginative motor engineers who obviously built the prototypes out of egg boxes so square were their designs (square in terms of geometrics and styling, ie "you're so square man", how quaint that I have to explain these phrases nowadays), but then some fool at Austin decided to hand one of their models over to the coachbuilders at Vanden Plas for "tarting up" so that old ladies would buy them.

My Austin Vanden Plas came with walnut dashboard, walnut cocktail cabinet and fold-down walnut drink trays in the back, it had leather upholstery and wind-down reclining seats operated by a little chrome winding handle, it was a bog-standard family car tarted up to look like a limousine and was not the sort of thing that an 18 year old would lust after.

The car that I lusted after was offered to me one month after taking delivery of the Vanden Plas, the bloke who had flogged it to my dad wanted it back to give to his elderly mother, it being an elderly mothers sort of car, and in exchange he offered me the next car that he'd "done up" on his driveway on a weekend - a Triumph Vitesse, the sporty convertable version of the Triumph Herald.

I was smitten when we went around to his house to see it one summers evening, white with red leather upholstery, a tiny two seater with a 6 cylinder two litre engine capable of 100mph - see how I'm still excited by this information, see how I could have become a petrolhead if only my father had agreed to swap the cars ?

The bloke from the club who tarted cars up and flogged them on to friends, almost sold the car to my dad, I could see that he was just about to say "Ok, we'll swap", I stood there with my tongue hanging out, itching to get my hands on the keys, this was a car fit for an 18 year old, it was mine, surely ?

And then the bloke who tarted up cars and flogged them on to friends made a fatal mistake, if only he had kept his mouth shut at that point then my life would have been different and I'd have become a car enthusiast and spent every weekend with my head under the bonnet trying to coax another horse out of the engine, but no, the bloke who tarted up cars on his driveway had to go and spoil things.

"I took it on a drive down the M1 to Wakefield yesterday Frank" he told my almost decided dad, "We got it up to 95mph and it was still good for some more"

"We're going home" my dad said.

That was that, no Triumph Vitesse for me, he didn't trust me to own a car that could drive at such unbelievable speed for in those days the 70mph speed limit on the M1 was a speed to still be dreamed of rather than achieved with ease, my petrolhead days were over even before they'd begun.

So I chugged around in a heavy old ladies car for several years more, my friends riding in style in the back with the cocktail cabinet full of beer, until our Ned smashed it to smithereens ...

Wydaje mi się, że może chodzić o sterylność produktu. GT2 było - ośmielę się użyć tego określenia - skrajnie prymitywne pod względem graficznym. Pozostawiało pole dla wyobraźni, pozwalało imaginacji wcisnąć swoje "trzy grosze" pomiędzy zlepek pikseli, hucznie określany samochodem. GT4 nie daje Ci takiej możliwości. W GT2, jeśli tylko chciałeś, mogłeś zobaczyć motion blur. W GT4 również możesz go zobaczyć, ale tylko w dwóch wypadkach: gdy w photo drive ustawisz migawkę na 1/60 sekundy podczas gdy samochód przemieszcza się 250kph. Albo jeśli skopciłeś krzak trawki, co - jak sądzę - pozwala Ci równierz uwierzyć że w dłoniach nie trzymasz pada, ale pokrytą zamszem Momo Sport z czerwonymi przyciskami oznaczającymi podtlenek azotu. Wyobraźnia jest cholernie ważna, a twórcy gier doskonaląc grafikę i oferując nam cuda w postaci 1080p@60fps (pozdro Deevaa, Twoje główne kryterium wyboru gry) odbierają miejsce na nią. Nie mam do nich absolutnie żadnych pretensji - efekt jest powalający, ale pod jednym warunkiem - że masz małe wymagania. Albo że dopracują produkt w najmniejszym szczególe, odwzorowując rzeczywistość do tego stopnia, że wyobraźnia po prostu przestanie być wymagana by skompletować doznania. Wyobraźnia uzupełniała wszelkie braki graficzne GT2, od płaskich jak kartka papieru felg aż po drzewa które mógłby zrobić w paincie 5-latek. W GT4 zaś dostaliśmy większą szczegółowość, ale wyobraźnia została wyproszona z salonu co - w połączeniu z niedoróbkami - zaowocowało totalnym krachem. Pomiędzy te piksele nie dało się wcisnąć blura, bo zmysł wzroku kłócił się z wyobraźnią wpychając mózg w imadło. Podobnie drzewa. Samochody były bardziej dopracowane, ale nie tak jakbyśmy tego chcieli. Wkopując wyobraźnię i wciskając nam coś gorszego niż się spodziewaliśmy ma - przynajmniej dla mnie - jeden efekt: magia ginie. Nie czerpię z GT4 takiej radochy jak z GT2, nie widzę gry równie dobrej co gra z (o zgrozo!) poprzedniej generacji konsol. Fakt faktem, fizyka przeszła ewolucję, mapowanie środowiska nie polega na niemal sztywnym przyklejeniu refleksów (w postaci białych pasów) do bitmapy pokrywającej samochód, dodano nowe niuanse (Zabawa settingami <3) i ogólnie jest lepiej ale - paradoksalnie, nieprawdaż? - za razem jest gorzej. Wszystko przez niedoróbki i niedobór mocy obliczeniowej. Chcę wierzyć, że GT5 pomoże mi odzyskać wiarę w symulacje, ale boję się że nie podoła moim wymaganiom. O Forzie Motorsport, X'owym konkurencie GT nie wspomnę nawet słowem, bo jeśli za jedną z najważniejszych cech gry uważa się dynamiczne monitorowanie ciśnienia w ogumieniu, to nie mam więcej pytań. Co do GT5 - przekonamy się za jakiś czas, czy Kazunori dokonał cudu i spełnił moje oczekiwania. A są one niezwykle (no dobra, złe słowo) precyzyjne: chcę się poczuć jak na drodzę. Chcę zobaczyć pieprzony efekt zwężania się drogi przy 230 kph, przestać postrzegać drzewa jako drzewa i usłyszeć jak akustyka silnika niesie się echem od ścian tunelu strasząc ptaki siedzące na okolicznych drzewach. Nie oczekuję free-roamingu (zepsułoby to odsłonę cudnej serii), ale oczekuję że wyobraźnia przestanie być potrzeba, bo komplet doznań z jazdy zamknie się w płycie Blu-Ray włożonej do mojej PS3. I pokornie błagam, by duchy mocy, Bóg, czy ktokolwiek inny, jak tam go zwiecie, sprawiły aby tak się stało. Chcę symulatora, który wgniecie w asfalt rzeczywistość i spali na niej gumę za pomocą plującego ogniem pojazdu, który następnie ruszy i otworzy za sobą wrota piekła. Chcę Gran Turismo 5+.

Czy jestem PetrolHeadem? Z całą pewnością. Dlatego gdy wysiadam na stacji benzynowej, pierwsze co robię, to biorę bardzo głęboki wdech. Bo niewiele rzeczy może się równać z zapachem pospolitej 98. A jeśli to BP Ultimate, łapie odlot.

Na koniec pozwolę sobie przytoczyć dwie sentencje. Pierwsza głęboko zapadła mi w pamięć, ale skąd jest - nie mam pojęcia. Druga zaś została wypowiedziana przez Jeremy'ego Clarksona.

• Nie słuchaj żony. Nie słuchaj lekarza. Słuchaj serca. ["Kup supersamochód." należałoby dodać :)]

• Szybkość jeszcze nikogo nie zabiła. To nagłe zatrzymanie pozbawia nas życia.

I z obydwiema się zgadzam. Dlatego kiedyś wydam na samochód krocie, a moja żona/dziewczyna urwie mi z tego powodu łeb. Ale pieprzyć to, będę miał swój supersamochód! Supersamochód kupuje się sercem, nie rozumem. Dlatego większość kobiet nigdy nie pojmie, dlaczego niektórzy faceci wydają tyle kasy na samochód. Nie chodzi o budownie ego. Chodzi o fakt, że spełniasz marzenie, zaspokajasz chłopca, który siedzi wewnątrz każdego faceta od narodzin, aż do zgonu. Mój ma się dobrze, nie wiem jak Wasz.

Pierwszy raz, parę lat temu, obok Buckingham Palace akwamarynowy Gallardo spowodował że zapieprzyłem głową w słup. Bolało jak cholera, bo byłem w półbiegu wyciągając aparat.

Drugi raz, siedząc koło ul. Tuwima. Jedyny raz gdy widziałem Lambo w Polsce.

Trzeci raz w Londynie. Czerwony Gallardo, przez którego o mało co nie rozjechał mnie dwupiętrowy autobus. Musiałem przeciąć ulicę pod National Gallery, a to proste nie jest, szczególnie koło 13, gdy wszyscy jadą na lunch.

Czwarty raz. Czwarty raz, gdy za sprawą głodu poszedłem szukać jakiegoś BurgerKinga czy McDonald's, i moje oczy znalazły szyld Lamborghini London. Głód? Jaki głód do cholery, tam jest Lambo! Tam, to znaczy za szybami o grubości 20cm które w założeniu mają przetrzymać uderzenie czołgu. Chociaż zanim czołg by wjechał w ten salon, wszystkie samochody dawno zostałyby ewakuowane przez oddział S.W.A.T.

Więc byłem tam raz, o czym pisałem już przy okazji relacji z Londynu. Dlaczego zatem do tego wracam? Dzisiaj w moje łapska dostał się pierwszy egzemplarz TopGear Magazine Edycja Polska. I gdy otworzyłem go na randomowej stronie zobaczyłem po raz enty samochód, który jest prawdopodobnie dziełem obcej cywilizacji. A nawet jeśli stworzyli go ziemianie, to mają pakt z diabłem/amerykanami* (niepotrzebne skreślić) na wykorzystanie technologii gniotącej swą nowoczesnością awionikę F-35 Lightning II i wszelkie Black Planes. I mimo że widzę go kolejny raz, dopiero w obiektywie TopGear zadziałał tak jak powinien. Podniosło mi się tętno, a źrenice rozszerzyły się do granic. W pełnej okazałości, widziałem myśliwiec drogowy. Lamborghini Reventon. Agresja w najczystszej postaci. Nie wiem, jak do tego doszło. Siedziałem w Murcielago LP640. I byłem święcie przekonany że nic brutalniejszego i jeszcze bardziej wybuchowego nie da się zrobić. Ale jednak, udało im się. Ktoś udał się w LP640 do Centro Stile i rzucił od niechcenia "Zróbcie coś z tym.". Garstka ludzi o ognistym spojrzeniu wtoczyła Murcielago do garażu i zamknęła drzwi by w spokoju zająć się kondensacją DNA tego samochodu. Eksterpolowaniem absolutnego ekstremum motoryzacyjnego świata. I znów im się udało. Efekt jest absolutnie piorunujący. Policjanci wypuszczają bloczki z mandatami, przechodnie gapią się wykazując spadek IQ do ujemnego poziomu, a starzy ludzie w promieniu 15km padają na zawał powodowany odgłosami eksplozji atomowych następujących z częstotliwością do 10 000x na minutę. Włosi zredukują populację starych ludzi o 3/4 używając do tego 21 samochodów. A ja będę żył w nadziei, że któregoś dnia zobaczę jeden z 20 Reventonów. Chyba że udam się do muzeum Lambo, albowiem tam wyląduje przedseryjny, oznaczony 0/20...

Sibiu, Strada Ocnei

Gerade die Anfangssequenz mit der Harfe ist jedes Mal ein echt schönes Erlebnis. Dieses Auto ist absolut schön. Und gleich bekommen wir, auch bei der stark komprimierten Fassung von YouTube einen richtig guten Eindruck vom Sound des Motors.

So ich hoffe, dass ich nun ins Bett kann.

Meine Idee: Eine Reportage mit Herausforderung. Das bedeutet nicht, dass ich nur einen Reisebericht machen möchte. Vielmehr muss noch ein Spannungsbogen her. Etwas, das dazu führt, dass man nicht weiß, ob man es schaffen kann oder nicht. Zum Beispiel nur eine bestimmte Menge an Sprit verbrauchen. Oder nur mit einem begrenzten Budget auszukommen. Das ganze soll dann als Reportage in einem Blog, in einer Zeitung oder am besten in einer TV-Reportage präsentiert werden. Oder alles gleichzeitig ;)

Im Moment arbeite ich an einem Exposé. Daran sollen potentielle Geldgeber 1.) die Ernsthaftigkeit dieses Plans und 2.) die Struktur und die Machbarkeit erkennen können. Mal sehen, was Dani noch für Ideen hat.

Es ist dieses Lächeln, wenn ich diese Sendung sehe. Etwas, was mich mitten in der Nacht den Fernseher abschalten lässt, obwohl Barbara beim Raab sitzt. Es sind die Bilder, die mich auf die Knie fallen lassen und mir schlaflose Nächte bereiten, nur weil ich ein Mal in meinem Leben so etwas auch mal drehen möchte. Es sind die Autos, die perfekt insziniert werden und von Leuten präsentiert werden, die es wirklich ernst meinen, wenn sie etwas über das Auto sagen.
