Saturday morning we drove to the Cape to visit my dad and Janice and see my brother and one of my sisters. While we were there I showed Micky the house I grew up in and my old neighborhood. I have beautiful pictures of my dad, Janice, and Susan, but am forbidden from posting them. :)

Dealing with a dog that has obedience problems can be extremely frustrating and might even have a pe

Dealing with a dog that has obedience problems can be extremely frustrating and might even have a pet owner feeling a bit disappointed about their investment. If the dog isn’t properly trained then this may even put a serious damper on the relationship between pet and pet owner. If not properly fixed and given the appropriate attention and training then the pet owner might eventually get so frustrated that they decide that they can’t handle the responsibilities of owning their pet any longer.

Unfortunately this does occur with many dogs because people underestimate the importance of puppy training at a young age. Puppy training is one of the most important, but often most overlooked, development stages in a dog’s life. This is the time when they are young and can easily adapt to what they are told is right and wrong. Puppy training should commence when the puppy is about 6 months old. This is the best time because the dog is at an ideal learning stage in their lives. After this point it’s not too late to teach your dog some obedience but it makes it much more difficult.

That’s why it is strongly recommended to enroll your dog in a puppy training school when they are between six and eight months of age. In order to find a local dog training school your best bet is just to type in your search in either Google or Yahoo. So for example if you wanted to find a dog trainer in Toronto you would type in dog training Toronto in the search box. If you were looking in another location then you should just type in dog training and then your location. From there call a few places and do a little research to find the best dog training provider in your city.

Forget Mr Ed.

Cats are particularly good at communicating with one another and humans.
They have a considerably larger vocabulary than dogs, with most cats being able to make over 100 different sounds.
These sounds can range from purring, to hissing and growling, spitting, wailing and howling, and many different combinations in between.

They certainly do have the ability to get most of what they want from their owners, and that is why it is often said that the cat rules the house and the humans are the servants.

Yes we certainly do seem to do all the running about, yet when we call the cat it is just as likely to turn around with its tail in the air and wander off.

It is this independent nature that appeals so much to so many people and that's why cats are one of the most loved pets in the world.

Cats are also extremely good at communicating with one another and once again with humans, by their body language.
Cat owners who are tuned in to their cat's behavior can communicate extremely well, and this also makes it a lot easier for the owner to train a cat to do particular things or to behave better.

It also allows the opportunity to become a lot more aware of when the cat is not feeling well and when a trip to the vet might be necessary.
Fortunately that is not too often if the cat has been well cared for and given good nutrition because they are extremely resilient and even the process of purring can help to stimulate healing properties within the cat.

If your cat is making a sound and it is directed towards you then you know it is trying to communicate with you and usually it is not too hard to work out what it wants.

1. Love that silver wedding dresses are cool right now. I've always loved color in a dress. This is definitely a new spin on things. Check this one out from Maggie Sottero. This is the style Kadence.

2. Having doughnuts made fresh at your wedding reception.

3. Charms and/or love note from the groom on your bouquet. What a special keepsake to have after the flowers have gone to flower heaven. You can find the charms at www.etsy.com.

4. Incorporating animals into your ceremony. If you have a special animal in your life, shouldn't they be involved in some way?

5. Beach weddings. Just being by the ocean relaxes me. That seems like the perfect venue. I think it's also great to give your guests flip flops to wear down to the beach. Thereby saving their lovely footwear for the dancing at the reception. However, you know they'll come back to those flip flops after dancing all night.

6. Leaving a different amenity on your out of town guests pillow each night. I suggest a hangover remedy kit for the night of the wedding. You can include gatorade, water, vitamin B, Advil, Zantac and an eye mask.

7. Giving plants as your wedding favors. This is one favor that won't be wasted and you really will be giving something back to the environment.

8. Check out these neat wax candle containers from RS Wax. Just beautiful! Adds a warm glow to any wedding reception.

9. Having each of your guests photos taken as they arrive at your wedding reception and giving them as favors at the end of the night in beautiful frames.

10. Inky Pink for out of the box favors, gifts, accessories. The list is endless. The picture below is a perfect wedding cake topper for cell phone addicted brides and grooms.

Dear Diary,

Dear Diary,

Once upon a time, in a land far far away called Maryland, there lived a pup named Horatio. Horatio was the cutest pup of them all. Fluffy and prone to romping was he.

Then one day, Horatio's Mom and Dad decided he needed a haircut, because they apparently felt the need to ruin perfection.

That's right, kids, I got a haircut. Ha ha. Very funny. I look like a freakish skinny monkey hopping all over the place. No fluff that inspires cuddles. I can't pull the "Aw he looks like a stuffed animal!" card either to get out of punishments for winkies on the floor.

It wasn't so much a grooming as it was a shearing. No style. No class. No fur. The shampoo was generic. GENERIC. Ugh.

Mom and Dad showed up early to pick me up, and saw me getting groomed. They coo'd and aww'd on the other side of the glass while I shivered with a stranger who was obviously hellbent on making me the laughing stock of the puppy world.

Mom and Dad are such assholes.

Bones,

Horatio

Avery is a fat cat, but doesn't eat a lot like you'd think he would. He's at least 20 pounds, maybe 25. Unlike Bo Bo, he doesn't like human food except for the occasional sip of milk if Bo Bo is having some. Oh, and of course, he loves tuna fish juice too but frowns at kitty treats.

He prefers long naps on the bed, or on the mat by the back door, or under the blankets on the sofa. The laundry basket is a fun place to hide. He'll bat at a piece of string or ribbon from time to time, but quickly becomes board with that game. His signature mark is his little mole on his face and his head but. To get your attention, or while you are already petting him, he'll give you a nice head but. He also likes to give you love bites, which can hurt if you aren't expecting it. His purr is very loud, so I assume he's a very happy kitty.

You'd think he's the dominate of the two, but Bon Jour will often pounce on Avery when he's trying to sleep in the sun shine on the floor. He gives out a wicked cry when Bon Jour is being mean to him. Avery does not like the dogs because they chase him when he jumps down off the furniture. He has been known to swat back at them, which often gets him in trouble because Bailey, the middle dog, will attack back.

Overall, he's a laid back kitty that never causes trouble.

Get that camera out of her! We're napping!

"You might want to wear pants," Master commented when He phoned earlier.

It wasn't an order, so I chose not to follow it. How could Master enjoy me in pants? I wore a micromini, with nothing underneath.

When He appeared at the door, He didn't look displeased.

"Zita," He said, coming in. "Are you available?"

"Yes, Master," I responded, and put my hair up in a single silver pin and dropping into Position 2, pulling the top of my dress down to expose my tits and the hem up to show my ass and pussy.

"You are not wearing pants."

"No, Master."

He smiled.

"Very well," He said. "That was only a suggestion for your sake."

"My sake, Master?" I asked.

He ignored me, inspecting me. He ran a hand over my tits, which were still bruised and bloody from our session days before.

"My little canvas," He said.

It stung when He touched me. I clung to the pain greedily.

He pinched my nipple. Hard, then harder.

"Thank You, Master."

He circled me so He could inspect the marks on my ass. I still carried His hand prints: one on my right ass cheek, one on my inner thigh and one on my back, under my left shoulder blade.

In this dress, He could admire two of them.

"I have a trifle for you," Master said, circling back to face me.

He lifted my chin with a hand and ran a hand down my cheek.

"May I look at you, Master?" I asked.

"Yes," He responded.

He slapped me as soon as I opened my eyes and smiled at the pain He saw in them.

"My little painslut," He said.

"Yes, Master."

"Whose are you, Zita?"

"Yours, Elias."

"Who is your god?"

"You are my god, Elias."

"What do you worship?"

"Your Cock."

"Very good, devout, little Zita."

Elias pulled a box from His coat pocket. I watched motionless. He opened it and pulled out a thick, white band.

A collar, with a large metal ring in the center.

He placed around my neck.

"Do you know what this is, Zita?"

"A collar, Master."

"A symbol," He said, his voice soft. "That you belong to Me."

He tightened it.

"You will wear it whenever we go out and whenever else I indicate."

"Yes, Master."

"Arrange your dress, Zita."

I did as instructed and began to rise.

"Did I tell you to get up?"

I returned to position: "no, Master."

He pulled the collar so the ring was on the back of my neck. I heard a small click and then felt a tug.

"We're going for a little walk."

There are many choices for a companion.

Should you get a furry one, a feathery one, a scaly one, a hairy one, a fluffy one, a wooly one, a prickly one.

Then once you have settled on a particular species you have to ask yourself if you should get a big one, a small one, a female, a male, an old one, a young one, a spotted one, a long haired one, or maybe two.

Choosing a pet is not something you should take lightly. They are a major responsibility.

Some Things To Consider:

How much room do you have at home? Is there room for a Great Dane to exercise or is your home more suited to a Budgie.

How much time do you have to exercise and care for your pet? A goldfish, for example, will not require as many hours a day as a Labrador.

How long are you prepared to look after a pet? A dog can live 15 years or more, so if you were thinking that you might go back to work after the kids move out you might still have a dog at home.

Is there a possibility that you might be moving into the city, or into a home, before you pet dies? You might be required to abandon your pet - is that something you are prepared for?

Is your pet the right choice if you could have children in the near future? An Anaconda or Pit Bull may not be the best choice (I know Pit Bull supporters may disagree).

Do you or your loved ones have allergies? It is no good turning up with a surprise feline only to find your partner is allergic.

Can you afford your choice of pet? Can you afford to stable and maintain a horse or will a hamster meet your budget needs. There are many costs that may not be obvious to a first time animal owner, so I would suggest talking to someone who owns the animal of choice (preferably a breeder or someone experienced).

A Pet You Probably Should NOT Choose (unless you have no time, no budget, and no room at home)

SNOWBALL

I made myself a snowball

As perfect as could be.

I thought I'd keep it as a pet

And let it sleep with me.

I made it some pajamas

And a pillow for its head.

Then last night it ran away,

But first it wet the bed.

Oreo is my first real pet of my own. I got dibs on him literally the second he was born, I was there for his birth. I'm so glad to have him and he has helped me a lot through my depression while recovering from the breakup few months ago. He sleeps with me every night. He knows when I'm upset and licks my feet to let me know that he's there. He jumps up at me to get my attention. He just doesn't let me out of his sight. He even knows that I'm deaf so he doesn't even bark around me and in general. He doesn't leave my side even without a leash outside. Right now, he's curled up at my feet. :) He still needs to learn how to sit though.

We have this undeniable bond and I love him to death. He's the best dog ever. He turns 1 next month.

OTHER NAMES: Red-rumped Parrot, Red-backed Parrot, Red-winged Parrot, Crimson-winged Parrot, Blood-w

OTHER NAMES: Red-rumped Parrot, Red-backed Parrot, Red-winged Parrot, Crimson-winged Parrot, Blood-winged Parrot, Grass Parrot, Ground Parrot, Grassie, Green Leek, Redrump, or Reddie and is also described as a Parakeet outside of Australia.
SUBSPECIES: Paler Red-rump Parrot Psephotus caeruleus, this species is very similar to the standard Redrump parrot, however they are smaller with paler plumage and the females appear more greyish.

[wp_caption id="" align="alignleft" width="184" caption="Red Rump Parrot Male and Female"][/wp_caption]

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: The adult male Red Rump Parrot has an aqua blue mask that covers their cheeks, brow and face. Their head and chest are a bright emerald green which blends into a yellowish green on the shoulders and chest and then into a stronger yellow on the stomach. They have a distinctive red rump from which their name is derived. Their nape and back are a duller grey/blue/green. Their wings are a duller blue/green with blue/black tips, the shoulders of their wings have an aqua marking centered with a yellow patch. The tail merges down from a blue/green to blue/black tips and the underside of the tail is a paler white/blue. Brown/grey eye, grey feet and dark beak.

The male Red Rump Parrots are much more colourful than the females. The female has similar makings but her plumage is made up of a duller olive green over her head, shoulders and chest, which blends down to a pale yellow/white on the stomach and pale blue/white underside. The rump is a plain dull green. A slightly darker olive green covers the wings and tail with blue/black tips. Brown/grey eye, grey feet and dark grey beak

The adolescent birds are the same as the adults, but are much duller. They reach adult colouring at around 4 months.

[wp_caption id="" align="alignright" width="196" caption="Cinnamon Opaline Red Rump hen"][/wp_caption]

SIZE: The Red Rump is a slim average sized parrot at about 27 cm in length and weigh of around 55-85gm. Their long tail is almost half its length.
HABITAT: The Red Rump Parrot is native to Australia and can be found in New South Wales, Victoria, southwest Queensland and eastern parts of South Australia. They tend to live in pairs or little groups and are generally found in lightly wooded area close to a water source. This little bird has been very successful in adapting too many man made environments such as farms, parks and golf courses. The Red Rump Parrot well camouflaged on ground is often seen feeding on the ground or perched on posts and trees. Sometimes they will be seen in large flocks, usually during winter and large flocks of males have been seen during their breeding season.
STATUS: Common to numerous
DIET: The Red Rump feeds mainly on seeds, but also enjoys fruits and vegetables, buds, flowers, nectar and insects.
Many sites recommend a combination of small parrot or Cockatiel seed mix, striped sunflower seeds (not too many), oats, Canary Seed, and Millets, as a basis for their seed diet, while other sites recommend parrot pellets or a combination of both. One site recommends coating the seed mix with Wheat Germ Oil to provide vitamins and prevent egg binding in their birds.

What ever your choice, make sure that your Red Rump received a daily serve of various clean fresh fruits and vegetables, sprouts, nuts, flowers, berries and nectar. It is very important that any uneaten or spoilt fruit is removed as soon as possible, through out the day to prevent contamination and fermentation, especially during hot humid weather. You should also supplement their diet with soaked and sprouted seed, seeding grasses, seed heads, and even egg and biscuit mix.

Red Rump Parrots need a source of protein, which can be obtained with insectivore mixes, insect larvae, mealworms or a protein powder. You also need to maintain adequate levels of vitamins and minerals, there are many types of mineral and vitamin blocks available. I use a mineral perch. Don’t forget the benefits of cuttlefish and shell grit. They also spend a lot of time on the ground scratching around in dirt so it is imperative that they are wormed regularly.

Eucalyptus branches, leaves and flowers are a natural source of food but when placed throughout their enclosure they also become an important source of entertainment and exercise. Mental stimulation is extremely important for all birds in captivity. They also enjoy a dish of water for bathing or they will try to use their drinking water Change their water every day, and frequently clean their feeding bowls, toys, perches and cage or aviary to prevent contamination

COMPATIBILITY: Some people believe that it is ok to house the Red Rump with other birds outside of the breeding season, but I feel that this could lead to a very sad outcome. Red Rumps have a reputation for aggressive behaviour and do not tolerate sharing their enclosure with other birds, this includes other Red Rumps. The Adult male is extremely aggressive during the breeding season and has been know to kill rivals to ensure his breeding rights. I believe it is best to keep Red Rumps housed in single pairs or alone as a companion.

TEMPERAMENT: The Red Rump is said to be an active, outgoing and robust little bird.

[wp_caption id="" align="alignright" width="276" caption="Male and Female Red Rumps"][/wp_caption]

PET STATUS: Every Red Rump parrot has its own personality and some can make fantastic companions. They don’t always cope with the life of a family pet. It is best that you adopt a hand reared bird if you want to keep one as an indoor companion. A Red Rump will require a lot of daily social interaction and mental stimulation. This should include consistent and rich interaction and loads of toys and activities to maintain their mental health.

A pet Red Rump will quickly revert back to less social behaviour if left alone but more importantly your bird will suffer emotionally. If you don’t think you will have the time then you really should consider purchasing a pair and house them in an outside aviary.

LEVEL OF NOISE: The Red Rump Parrot is relatively quiet bird compared to other similar sized parrots. They are said to have a musical voice. The normal call sounds like a shrill whistle. Each call varies depending on what they are doing.

LIFE SPAN: Genetics and diet always have an influence in the longevity of a bird. The Red Rump Parrot can live 15 to 20 years or more.

Happy 4th of July everyone and we hope that all the doggies out there are safe today. Princess Indi has been doing well. We went on a two hour walk in the late afternoon and she has been napping ever since. She has done very well througout the loud fireworks around here which I am glad about because I was worried about how she was going to react to it all.

Brandon and I talk to Wyatt like he understands what we're sayin'. That may sound weird but we do always do it. I personally think that he feels spoiled when I'm "baby-talking" to him. I don't know if it's just me or what but at times he seems to get what I'm saying to him. Like for example when I'm washing silver ware on the sink and he comes to play with water (he does this everytime the water is running on the sink) and I say something like "No, not this time, I'm on a hurry. Don't disturb me.", I don't have to sprinkle water on his face so he goes down, he just meows and leave. It's like he's saying "Aight".:P

Well, here's a pic of Brandon telling Wyatt not to climb on the chair he's sitting on coz he doesn't want Wyatt to scratch his back. And as always, our boy listens :D

Pets have always been an important part of my life. They make me happy, and have always been somet

Pets have always been an important part of my life. They make me happy, and have always been something I look forward to coming home to each and every day. No matter how bad the day went, a pet can quickly make you forget all about it. J and I have several...cats, dogs, and fish. So, I thought I'd spend a few posts introducing the other parts of our family that make up our lil household.

Bon Jour is the lucky first to be introduced. He's a mysterious kitty that I acquired from a coworker back in 2000. She (the coworker) met a man on the internet, married him, and moved off to England. With no one to take her two full grown aging cats, I came into work one day and found her crying. No one wanted both of them, and no animal shelter or pet place could guarantee they wouldn't be split up. She wanted them to stay together, and knew Bon Jour would probably not survive being quarantined to go overseas. Having never met this odd cat, I felt sorry for her and agreed to take both of them from her and keep them together.

I quickly learned WHY no one wanted both of them. Bon Jour was a finicky cat who would not let anyone but her touch him. If someone knocked on her door, he ran and hid under her bed. Most people didn't even know she had two cats. On the day I went to pick them up, I took Avery (the other cat who I will talk about next) home and had to come back later to get Bon Jour. She could not coax him out from under the sink. So, I left her alone with him. She borrowed a neighbor's crate (which was for a dalmatian) and called me several hours later when Bon Jour was ready to go. After fighting to get the crate in my car and into my home, I pushed it up against my bed and opened the door. Bon Jour quickly ran out and under my bed, and that's where he stayed for about a month.

I put food on one side and a litter box on the other, and never saw him until one night when I was sitting at the computer. Bon Jour, desperate for human contact, ventured out and took one look at me. He jumped up on the desk with caution, but allowed me to gently stroke his neck. We've been best friends ever since.

Now, Bon Jour, being a French kitty still had quite a bit of attitude, and still had all his claws. He still ran when company came over, but I had a roommate that Bon Jour had to become accustomed to. When another friend moved in for a few months, Bon Jour quickly adapted to being around men and being around more than one person. His kitty shell was quickly broken, and although today he is still a bit timid, like all cats he goes off and does his own thing. But he will come out and visit strangers now at least when we have company, taking his time to sniff them and rub on their feet and allow them to touch him. That's something he never did when my coworker friend owned him.

Bon Jour loves to sit at my feet and stretch up over my chair and lick my wrist while I'm typing, as he is doing right now. He wants my attention and usually wants in my lap. He loves to watch birds in the window sill, but panics if he ventures outside onto the deck. So, he never gets out much. His front claws were removed a few years ago in order to bring peace to the furniture. He likes to eat pizza crust, Doritos chips, and Wendy's French fries, and KFC chicken nibblies, all in very small portions of course. Don't forget tuna can juice, and he will beg for a saucer of milk if you are standing in the kitchen.

To be such a fierce looking cat, supposedly a Maine coon, he has the saddest squeak for a meow, but he is a very loving cat that at the end of each day comes running to lay next to me on the bed when I go to sleep. He's my Bo Bo kitty!

In my Part 2 post, you'll meet Avery. He is Bon Jour's brother, and was an entirely different cat than Bon Jour was when we first met.

Since last few days, surprisingly, a couple of cats have been showing up the door of my apartment. One of them, a white one, just comes there, sits and keeps 'meowing' till I open the door.

She is cute, and clean :) And loves a bit of fondling [well who doesnt!]... and then its time for her summersaults... She is cute... I'll miss her when I go to Pune...

It was a very stressful night at work. Not only that we have nurses calling us every 30 seconds, we also have many problems including looking for hyaluronic acid for a TPN extravasation, troubleshooting for nurses how come their charting is all messed up, missing this and that, etc etc etc. So when I finally cleared everything, it's already my mom's birthday..July 4th! oh crap! I forgot to call her. I guess it's never too late to call her in the morning, telling her I need to work and will watch the fireworks at work.

Jeff is already snoring on the courch when I got home. Charlie was wagging his tail and gave me many doggy kisses. I almost felt bad about this morning, because I pushed him away when he was stepping all over on the laptop, trying to eat my chocolate waffle. He was quite sad about that afterward.

I think Charlie is the cutest dog on earth, not everyone agrees but I believe he's the most wonderful dog ever, even when he sheds crazy when it's hot.

it's nice to have Charlie greeting me, after a long day of work.

Hi all,

I have decided to split off all my animal chatter onto another site. Small Spark was never intended to be animal based, and I want to focus on my original goal, so I have created another blog where I will be posting this type of information. (Animal Chatter is already taken.) I'm open to naming suggestions...anyone have one?

For now, it's called kittyzen...part cat zen and part citizen.

Come on over!

as is a main route into the City, as of last night. Police are present to keep “looky-loos

as is a main route into the City, as of last night. Police are present to keep "looky-loos" at bay. Luckily I've got the food and may have to run out for a couple of extra things including ice, in the morning.

Prep menu, ice beverages, straighten home. Dinner for six here, dessert at a neighbors then everyone outside to be underneath the greatest fireworks show I've ever seen. NYC is great, on both sides of Manhattan as viewed from a couple miles away in a high rise.

Being right underneath them is a treat, however, and something I'll always remember. Like nephew Joseph, age 3, on Grandpa Joe's shoulders last year, mesmerized. It wasn't a good shot but I'll try better this year with the new digital SLR.

Our girl is ready to go, too. As you can see she's had a bath and is ready to entertain. Might even do tricks.

Enjoy your Fourth. We've no place for a flagpole so a Texas Star on the door will have to do. We thank the Police, Pyros and Fire Marshall and staff for everything!

Cheers, Dee
