Sal-E works ferociously as a cosmetologist at Milio’s Hair Salon in Chicago, Illinois. Born and raised in Chicago’s northwest-side he quickly developed a reputation for creating original costumes that are inspired by found objects and result in a wide variety of looks. From a psychedelic baroque monarch to a heroic comic book figure Sal-E is one of the most requested nightclub personalities and is seen everywhere on extreme make-up photo galleries.

His message is one of dressing the part and living the life of self-empowerment, color and simply having fun. One could mistake his abilities to transform himself on a daily basis as mutant shape-shifiing, but it’s all in the skill of his hands and make-up box.

A regular contributor to the Feast of Fools, he’s well known across the internet as a folkloric figure of the Club World and of the urban nightlife experience.

My personal opinion is that Sal-E is so beyond a drag performer or even a traditional entertainer.  I believe he is a living work of art. His make up and the intricacies of his costumes speaks to a creative mind that is so far and above the the crowd that it is awe inspiring.  He takesodds and ends; and transforms them into clothing and a living canvas of art of his fac and body.

I hope that someone who has the means gives this talented man a larger stage to share his art with the world. He is a talent to be reckoned with, and if you are ever in Chicago and he is performing - catch his act.   Also, tune in to the Feast of Fools (http://www.feastoffools.net/) and search their archives for the shows he is in because you will find out that he is one nice and funny guy!

Sometimes the world feels loveless.

Will this be a future question? Or does it fit the times we live in now?

LOVE is just as important to humans as food & water...maybe even more...

Let's not forget about LOVE...that's my wish.

"If you think about painters and sculptures, you think about artists who have always had to sell their work directly to their patrons and/or end consumers. If you think about members of a band, you think about musicicians who have to promote themselves to get gigs. On the other hand, dancers and actors go to auditions where their work is judged by casting directors. Once a dancer/actor is in a performance, he or she does not then play any part in ensuring that money is coming in."

"Visual artists are very accustomed to making and selling multiple copies of a single artwork. Stage performers, however, are very very reluctant to reproduce their performances in any medium. So for a painter, making digital reproductions of their art for online distribution and sale is no big deal. But dancers and actors are terrified if somebody brings a camera or video camera to a performance.

I'm not making light of the concern that performance groups have of illegal copies being made of their performances. But I believe that the historical distaste that performance groups have for allowing their works to be filmed is posing a problem as the Internet and blogs play a more important role in all aspects of our economy."

Esta resistencia a reproducir el trabajo de los bailarines es algo que he vivido en persona. Hay mucho miedo a que te "roben" la coreografía. Como artista lo entiendo, es una preocupacion muy válida, hay gente que hace sucierías. Mas a la misma vez el arte se nutre del intercambio y el mantenernos aislados no necesariamente implica una mayor originalidad, incluso puede crear una parálisis creativa porque no hay flujo de ideas, no hay intercambio o nuevas influencias. Corresponde a nosotros los bailarines, los actores, en fin, los artistas, tener ética suficiente como para no copiar literalmente el trabajo de otros sin permiso ni crédito (algo que una comunidad activa puede monitoriar facilmente como se hace en wikipedia, en eso más blogs podrían ayudar) pero buscar también entablar un diálogo. Diálogo que aproveche las herramientas del Internet tanto para promover nuestro trabajo (próximo show, talleres, etc.) como para crecer crear un espacio de autocrítica y simplemente compartir los performances “cools” e interesantes que hay por ahí, en fin, crecer como artistas.
