Free speech is a important part of our society, but that doesn't mean you should run around writing or speaking every inane thought you have. It seems though that some people are going to say stupid things whether they've "thought" long and hard about it or not. Case in point:

No, this isn't one of those fake sign generators as much as I wish it was. News story with video. (via Friendly Atheist) Of course the first thing I thought of was this Demotivator:

What do you do when you are a pastor in a small community, and you feel nobody is listening to you?

What do you do when you are a pastor in a small community, and you feel nobody is listening to you? You do something stupid to draw attention and put your little hamlet on the map, that’s what.

Options: a killing spree, a large wildfire, maybe a police chase…

Oh, I know, I know! You take that “dumb platitude of the day” sign you have out front, and put something on it that will piss people off.

Like pastor and wannabe Muppet Roger Byrd of Jonesville, North Carolina, who rules the local Church of God. “They’ll notice me now”, he thought, when he wrote: Obama, Osama-hmm, are they brothers? Byrd is not trying to be political; he is “just trying to make people think”.

Well, Pastor, we have been thinking. And we have some to the conclusion that you aren’t quite right in the head. What do you mean, it’s not political? Don’t be silly; of course it’s political. But did you really think any of your flock was planning not to vote for McCain in the first place?

I know, I know; there’s a deeper meaning to ‘brothers’, I get it. You are so witty! Maybe you could write one of those inspirational day planners, you know; like the one that you normally plagiarize for your insipid sign.

Pastor Byrd, next time you are aching for some attention, would you just do what any other self-respecting pastor would do: create a juicy sex scandal? We all know you’ve been meaning to sleep with the choir lady anyway.
