Hablaba hace unos minutos con una amiga que vive en Estados Unidos sobre Nicanor Parra, y me acordé de que tuve la suerte de estar presente en el doctorado honoris causa que le entregó la universidad en la cual yo estudiaba, esto debe haber sido el 2004 ó 2005, comparto con ustedes una lectura del propio Nicanor, se trata del su "Proyecto de Tren Instantáneo entre Santiago y Puerto Montt".

You cannot not love Corey Hart. He’s so tall when he takes a three step lead off a base, he’s halfway there. He’s got some sweet tattoos. He plays new country as his batter up music, because, you see, he’s from Kentuck’a. He’s “the son of a third generation farmer...”

And now, thanks to his hard work and ours, he’s an All-Star.

In Corey’s second game ever at Miller Park, and his second game ever in the Major Leagues, he crushed a 3-run homer. After he played half the season with the Crew in 2006, my friend Dan went out and bought a Hart jersey. Really? This guy? Are you just doing it for the “I wear my sunglasses at night” jokes? No, Dan was a true believer from the beginning.

My line on Corey Hart has always been that he’s like that one kid on your baseball team as a child who was lanky, sort of goofy-looking, with a quiet voice... but who could straight-up play. As the short, scrappy kid who was a hit with the ladies, I was usually that kid’s pal — and we see C-Hart and J.J. are good friends.

When The Other J.J. and I were at Sabathia’s debut on Tuesday, it seemed just as much as Corey’s coronation as CC’s. The screen showed Manny Parra and Carlos Villanueva explaining why he should be an All-Star, and all the stadium staff, including P-House, sported “I Hart New York” t-shirts. There was a “Hart” in a heart painted behind home plate.

By now I’m sure you’ve seen Corey’s reaction to becoming an All-Star — along with Sheets and Braun, who might both start — thanks to the fans votes at the post-game press conference yesterday... and you might have reacted to the scene the way Posh Tosh did yesterday:

“Aww, what a cute little girl... OH MY GOD LOOK OUT WHAT ARE THEY DOING?!?!”

I was laughing. I think people were surprised, but not offended once they took a second to think about it. The Journal-Sentinel actually used its access to produce a thoughtful (surprise!) take on the celebration. When you’re close with your family, and when you take your kids to the game and let them run the bases every Sunday, they’re going to catch a few moments of the growns-ups being real. They are the Brewers, after all.

But a day later, I’m thinking: “Save it for the playoffs, guys.”

The Milwaukee Brewers haven't won anything in ages, but they've got a legitimate shot at October play this year. They took a huge step in that direction by acting first in the C.C. Sabathia sweepstakes. Milwaukee took the plunge by giving up their best prospect and three other players (according to unofficial reports) to, in effect, rent Sabathia for the rest of this season.

Sabathia, a free agent come season's end, will almost certainly not be a Brewer in 2009. The same can likely be said for Ben Sheets, and perhaps Prince Fielder. The former is in his contract walk year, and the latter doesn't seem to have any real interest in committing long term to the Brewers. Bearing that in mind, the Brewers decided that they have what amounts to a small window where they have a real shot at capturing a spot in the NL playoffs, and they decided to go for it.

I can't argue with the thought process here. While the Brewers have some really talented young offensive talent in place, with or without Fielder, they don't have a wealth of genuine young pitching talent. Manny Parra is the real deal, and injured Yovani Gallardo is a future ace. But beyond those two, there aren't many arms of note on the way through the system and the current staff minus Sheets would be a sieve. Offense is great, but it's pitching and defense that win titles. That means the one real shot for Milwaukee is right now, and they decided to roll those dice.

The Indians have been among the biggest flops in the game this year. They were one win short of a spot in the World Series last year, but this season they're at the bottom of the AL Central. Their two best offensive players, Victor Martinez and Travis Hafner, were both underperforming at an alarming rate before going down with injuries. Fausto Carmona also got hurt, and he wasn't pitching like he did last year before the injury occurred. The Cleveland bullpen has been mostly miserable. In fact, aside from the Cy Young caliber first half turned in by Cliff Lee, it's been almost all bad for the Tribe.

The Indians also have little to get excited about in their farm system. Adam Miller remained their top prospect coming into this season, but he can't seem to stay healthy, and his stock has started to slide. Beyond Miller, there's a potential power source in Beau Mills and a handful of mid-level prospects, but very little that stands out.

This deal remedies that situation to at least some extent. Matt LaPorta is a star in the making. He's got all the tools to become a first-rate corner outfielder, and could arrive in the bigs as a regular by sometime next season. Taylor Green has substantial upside as well. A third baseman, Green has already mastered the strike zone in his brief professional career, and he's got okay power. LaPorta is much closer to the majors right now than Green, but both qualify as everyday players in the future.

The two pitchers reportedly included don't generate the same excitement. Rob Bryson has accumulated some eye-opening strikeout numbers at Low-A, but he's a two-pitch type who is already throwing mostly relief at the bottom end of the minor league food chain. I'd classify Bryson as a low-end prospect. Zack Jackson is simply a body for the organization. He's had a couple of cups of big league coffee, but Jackson is getting annihilated at AAA this year, and does not project as a major league pitcher.

I like the deal for both sides. The Brewers would not have needed to make this deal had Gallardo not gotten hurt. But he did, and it left a gaping hole in the Milwaukee rotation. The team is configured to make a run in the soft NL right now, and they decided to go for the brass ring. I agree with that thought process. The Indians were going to lose Sabathia anyway, and they managed to snare a legitimate Top 10 prospect in LaPorta. Getting Green in the deal nets them two potential starting position players for what amounts to nothing, and that's a great move.

I also love the fact that we're seeing a deal of this magnitude with the trade deadline still more than three weeks away. That's a good indicator that it's going to be a freewheeling frenzy as the end of July approaches, and that's exciting news for any baseball fan!

Ahora ha sido destituido, ya que fué una de las condiciones que puso Chaparro para renovar. Y ahora, precisamente ahora, es cuando habla, cuando ya no puede arreglar nada de lo que denuncia y cuando su discurso vale de poco ya que se puede ver rencor y venganza en él.

El verdadero modo de vengarse del enemigo es no parecérsele, y usted está teniendo la misma clase que el señor Lopera. En todos estos años ¿no se ha dado cuenta de cómo actúa Lopera? No creo, mejor dicho estoy segura, que la forma de proceder de Lopera no ha cambiado ni un ápice. Entonces, ¿porqué sale ahora culpando a Lopera de su destitución? En entrevista al diario ABC llega a decir que es inaudito que jugadores como Gordillo, Cardeñosa y Del Sol no saltaran al campo para recibir el homenaje de la afición en el partido del Centenario. Critica esta actuación y no tiene los bemoles suficientes para decirlo en su día. PARRA, ESTÁS DONDE TU PROPIO APELLIDO INDICA HIJO!

Una de las cosas que dice es que no volvería al Betis sin tener competencias claras, dice que no las tenía en el Betis y que su trabajo no era necesario puesto que no pintaba nada, tu mismo te estas delatando, uno más que chupaba del bote sin hacer nada.

Señor Parra, has permanecido callado mientras que eras un asalariado del club lamiéndole la mano, por no mencionar otra parte de la anatomía humana, al amo que te pagaba. El que vive de rodillas no tiene otro destino que morir arrastrado.
No creáis que defiendo a Lopera. Todo lo que dice Parra es cierto. Lopera no deja hacer a nadie. Él decide los fichajes (o los no fichajes mejor dicho, somos el único club de 1ª división que aún no ha fichado debido a la "economía de guerra") en base a sus intereses económicos. Lo que intento decir, y espero que se me entienda, es que Parra, aun teniendo razón, no tiene la fuerza moral para denunciar una situación que no ha sobrevenido en los últimos tiempos sino que se remonta a los inicios del mandato de Lopera en 1.992. Por eso no puedo decir otra cosa que ¡AHORA NO, SEÑOR PARRA, YA ES TARDE!

I'm pretty confident about my opinions as a rule, and that's particularly true when it comes to baseball. But that sure doesn't mean that I'm right all the time! One of my strongest 2008 predictions was that the Baltimore Orioles would spend the season residing at the bottom of the AL East. That wasn't exactly going out on a limb, either. About the only people not picking the O's as cellar dwellers were those missing the boat on how improved the Tampa Bay Rays were going to be.

Here we are, nearing the midway point of the season, and the Orioles are not in last place, but they're also sporting a winning record, and that's a huge surprise to me. Baltimore is now 35-34 after another thrilling win on Tuesday night.

If you take a gander at their roster, it's really hard to comprehend what's taking place with this team. They're simply not very good on paper. Their best starting pitcher is Jeremy Guthrie. He's certainly an adequate big leaguer, but definitely not an ace. The closer, George Sherrill, was tabbed long ago as a situational lefty and that's about it. After slamming the door on the Astros Tuesday evening, Sherrill is now 23/25 in save opportunities and barring a sudden collapse over the next couple weeks, he'll be wearing an All-Star uniform shortly. The O's have only one .300 hitter on the roster, utility IF Alex Cintron, and he's only gotten a handful of AB's off the bench. The Orioles lack a big HR threat, and although they do have several players with decent power, there's no one who strikes fear into opposition pitchers.

So how are the O's getting it done? Two stats stand out. After accruing a pathetic 13-31 mark in one-run contests last season, the Orioles are a robust 16-10 this year.  More importantly, this team simply doesn't quit. Te Tuesday victory over the Astros marked the 16th time this season that Baltimore has overcome a two-run deficit to win. That's almost half their overall victories, which is a pretty staggering percentage.

For those who don't think managers make that much of a difference, think again. Dave Trembley has not only been pushing all the right buttons, but he's also instilled a sense of pride in this team. The Orioles are fundamentally sound, and they're a very enthusiastic bunch.  I watch as many games as I'm able to, and it's easy to see how much fun this team is having at the ballpark almost every day.

The Orioles could well end up at the bottom of the AL East when the dust settles. They simply don't have as much talent as any of the other teams in that sector. But if eventually do sink back to the cellar, it won't be for a lack of effort. They're one of the best stories of the '08 season to date.

SWEET SWINGING SWEENEY

Ryan Sweeney enjoyed another big game for Oakland Tuesday night, and is stamping himself as a viable fantasy performer as he continues to play well. Sweeney was doing well prior to a stint on the disabled list. He's picked right where he left off since returning, and then some. Sweeney is now hitting .307, and he's stealing bases and scoring a load of runs thanks to a move to the #2 hole in the A's lineup.

This isn't a fluke. Sweeney was the top rated prospect in the White Sox organization heading into 2007. He didn't live up to billing in a very limited trial last season, and GM Kenny Williams went big name hunting this winter, including Sweeney in a three for one swap with the A's that landed the Chisox Nick Swisher. It's too early to close the file on this trade, but early returns indicate that Oakland's Billy Beane got the best out of the latest riverboat gamble concocted by Williams.

Sweeney is not likely to be a big power guy at any point, but I envision him as 15-HR type eventually. Add in a consistent .280-.300 BA and 20-25 SB and you've got yourself a rock solid everyday OF who won't hurt anyone's fantasy roster, either. If he's available and you're in need of a fifth OF, go get him.

TEAHEN TUMBLING

Heading into the 2007 season, Mark Teahen was star in the making for the Royals. Teahen was lights out down the 2006 stretch run, and loomed as a considerable five-tool threat who could function at a variety of positions. In just under 400 '06 AB, Teahen hot .290, blasted 18 long balls and swiped 10 bags. In that this was just his second year with substantial big league opportunities, Teahen became a somewhat coveted mid-round fantasy grab in the 2007 drafts.

He wasn't awful by any stretch last season for the Royals, but Teahen was nevertheless somewhat of a disappointment. The .285 BA was acceptable, as were the 13 SB. But only seven HR and 60 RBI was way below expectations, and was unacceptable for a corner OF.

Coming into this season, Teahen was no longer a hot commodity, but he was still looked upon as a decent later round grab who wouldn't hurt. Nearly midway through this season, it now appears even those hopes for Teahen are being dashed. He's hitting just .252 with six home runs and a paltry two stolen bases.

I think it's worth noting that Teahen was basically given away by Billy Beane and the A's back in 2004. Beane just doesn't send prospects packing, and his leash with potential risers is about as long as you'll ever see. Yet he was willing to send Teahen off to the Royals in '04 and all he was getting in return in a three-team deal that also involved the Astros was reliever Octavio Dotel. What once appeared to be a rare Beane blunder is now looking more and more like another case where he didn't see what others were seeing, and it turns out his vision was on the money.

My advice to Teahen's fantasy owners at this point would be to bite the bullet an cut him loose. There are just too many useful fifth or sixth OF types in even deep league free agent pools to retain a guy who just isn't giving you anything positive right now.

PARRA-LYZING

Manny Parra had another really nice outing for the Brewers Tuesday night. That's five sharp starts in the last seven tries for Parra. There are still occasional control issues for the hard-throwing southpaw, but they're becoming more the exception than the norm. Parra has major upside. He's got a prolific offense behind him, especially when the Brewers are at home. Even when he gets knocked around, Parra will at least likely garner lots of K's for his fantasy owners, as he's averaging just short of one punchout per inning.

The BB's will continue to be a hindrance to his WHIP, and he'll have a blowup here and there. But he's going to give you more positives than negatives on balance, and that's more than enough to make him worthy of back of the rotation fantasy placement in most leagues. He's even more valuable for those in keeper leagues, as Parra owns legit top of the rotation stuff.

Off this last start, Parra is unlikely to remain unowned in any quality league. If he's still on the heap in yours, make the move.

In all, Parra has found a commercial niche that has hoisted him out of obscurity and into the illustrator mainstream where one can do more than get by-- they can get famous. All while still doing the colorful characters that he loves.

“Aw man, this rain — it’s just like that scene in the Disney version of Robin Hood. Yes, I am seriously talking about this right now.”

So I started to sing. Goes a lil’ somethin’ like this:

“Ev-errr-rrry town
Has its ups and down
Sometime ups
Outnumber the downs

But not in Nottingham”

This terribly annoyed him because I was singing, and singing about our miserable situation, and probably because it was boring, but mostly because of the rain falling on him. If you’re annoyed or bored with this anecdote, here’s the point: I’m making an analogy for the last week of watching Brewers baseball.

I call that picture “Miller Park at Rest” and it was taken last Wednesday when I went to Front Row Friday’s with Sam and Fishbach. We went there specifically to watch the second game of the Brewers-Cubs series, when the Brewers’ bats and relief pitching were actually the elements at rest. When I walked in at the top of the 2nd inning, Soup had already given up 6 runs. This game, of course, became a 19-5 beat down — one which finally inspired management to send Turnbow off to that buffalo farm in the sky. Miserable.

The next day we had news of a thrilling top-of-the-ninth comeback win. Sometimes ups outnumber the downs. But not in Milwaukee, where we soon learned fan-favorite (and pitching staff ace?) Yovani Gallardo will probably not play again this season as a result of an injury he sustained in that 4-3 win.

So then my boy Carlos couldn’t do away with those damn Astros... Neither could Manny Parra. I listened to that Saturday game during the ride to Minneapolis and it was lousy. Rickie Weeks hit a towering lead-off home run (!), which might have exited Minute Maid Park (“the Juice Box”) had it not hit the novelty train which chugs along the left field wall. Then they only scored one more run the whole damn game. The Brewers were winning on Sunday, until their closer, the Ten Million Dollar Man, Éric Serge Gagné walked home the tying run in the Bottom of the 9th. He walked home the tying run. Gagné has blown 5 saves, but if he had converted all of those, the Brewers would be in a tie for the best team in baseball.

They already lost one to the very unattractive Florida Marlins. Very recently, they couldn’t beer-batter those fish, letting them jump fresh outta the fryer. So we’ll see. In the meantime, you gotta try to stay upbeat.... by talking about more songs.

Also in the Disney version of Robin Hood, a football game breaks out during the archery tournament scene. In order to illustrate the scene had now switched to a smashmouth football party, they played “On, Wisconsin!” Not “The Victors.” Not the “Notre Dame Victory March.”

“What is the significance of that?” I asked.

I was very articulate as a child.

“Oh,” my mom said. “That song means football.”

That’s right. According to Wiki, the “fight song of the Wisconsin Badgers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison,” “the official state song of Wisconsin” and “the cry that Arthur MacArthur, Jr. used in the Battle of Chattanooga” means football, intrinsically. But standing in the rain in Baltimore, I thought of another fight song, which is just upbeat enough to keep our minds off our miserable situation. I’m talking, of course, about “Rocky Top.”

Non è mai stato bravo a scuola e questo lo si capisce da errori tecnici e temperamentali che vengono fuori in maniera molto velata nelle sue opere e che soltanto un esperto può individuare. La forza delle sue metafore e la dimestichezza nello scrivere frasi forti e geniali lo renderà “Intoccabile” nei secoli dei secoli!

¿Cuándo descubriste tu amor por la poesía?

Nací amándola, desde que estaba en cuarto año de
enseñanza primaria declamaba en festivales escolares;
el memorizar poemas para recitar en dichos eventos
posiblemente fue lo que me ayudó a versificar con gran
facilidad al principiar a escribir; esto empezó a
suceder cuando yo tenía 11 ó 12 años. A esa edad,
amigos y profesores me esbozaban un tema y yo lo
desarrollaba en verso rimado consonantemente sin
esfuerzo alguno. 

Me gusta mucho tu poesía “  Extraterrestre ", es un
viaje a través de imágenes cautivadoras ¿cómo se te
ocurrió escribirla?

Escribir Poesía es como ir de pesca; en ocasiones
regresa uno con un buen pez a casa, en otras regresa
con las manos vacías. “Extraterrestre” está escrita en
verso semi-libre. En ese poema mi objetivo era
describir a una “amiga” de conducta más extraña que;
“El extranjero” de Alfredo Camus. Yo, libre de metro y
ritmo predefinidos y con el apoyo de la pirotecnia
llena de trágica belleza que a veces nos asiste al
componer... Las imágenes, metáforas y frases fuertes
llegaron de tal modo que la necesidad de revisión fue
mínima. No le di más de diez repasos al hacer
correcciones.

Una pregunta quizás algo insólita. ¿Cuándo
consideras que una poesía está terminada?

Soy de los poetas que jamás consideran sus trabajos
completamente terminados. Puedo llegar a considerarlos
“semi-aceptables”, pero nunca terminados. La Poesía
tiene muchos elementos que de ser pasados por alto o
desatendidos, llegan a disminuir y hasta oscurecer su
atractivo. El poeta, al igual que el resto de los
profesionistas, evoluciona constantemente, y lo que
ayer veíamos como ideal y casi perfecto; al cabo de
unos meses puede resultarnos incompleto y hasta
insustancial. La naturaleza tiene billones de años
perfeccionando sus obras. Ella crea excelencias.
Nosotros... sólo tenemos una corta vida para crear
“excelencias”.  El empeño que ponemos al tratar de
crear grandiosidades es casi inútil. Especialmente
cuando el escribir no es el oficio que nos brinda el
sustento diario.
En el colegio a los niños les hacen aprender las
poesías de memoria, según tu opinión ¿es el mejor modo
para acercarse a la poesía?

La naturaleza humana es una inmensidad de
extravagancias y diversidades; los niños, a pesar de
su aparente inocencia y plasticidad no son la
excepción. Si a un niño pícaro le suministro epigramas
y poemas humorísticos... voy a sembrar semilla en
terreno fértil. Lo mismo va a suceder si a un niño de
naturaleza romántica le suministro madrigales y poemas
de carácter amatorio. Igual va a ocurrir si a un niño
beligerante y enérgico le procuro épicas.  El ser
humano gusta memorizar cosas que le agradan; la poesía
es heterogénea, tiene para todos;  pero debe ser
sembrada con cuidado. Si pongo una mente infantil a
memorizar temas que no es de su agrado, esa mente...
no sólo va a odiar la Poesía, va a odiar al reclutador
de rapsodas también.

No puedo evitar preguntarte quiénes son tus tres
poetas favoritos e con qué adjetivos definirías a cada
uno de ellos. 

Shakespeare, Lorca y Swinburne.

William Shakespeare es Dios. Dudo que poeta alguno
haya amasado o logre amasar un vocabulario comparable
al de él. Su destreza para dotar con la expresividad
adecuada a cada uno de sus personajes, y su magistral
elocuencia poética lo hizo amo y señor del repertorio
teatral  mundial. El último poeta que va a morir en la
memoria humana... va a ser Shakespeare.
        Federico García Lorca es el POETA.  Después de
Shakespeare, él ocupa el segundo lugar en el
repertorio teatral mundial. Nunca fue buen estudiante
en la escuela, esto se exhibe en errores técnicos y
temperamentales que se proyectan... tan sutilmente en
sus obras, que sólo un iniciado los puede detectar. Su
fuerza metafórica y habilidad para escribir frases
fuertes y geniales lo mantendrá ¡“Intocable” por los
siglos de los siglos!

a tantísimo constreñimiento y lograr la excelsitud

Parra, Buski y yo en un local de la comarca...

Bueno, aquí estamos de nuevo, jejejejee!!! Bajo la sombra auditiva de Josep Cuni y con la mirada clavada al portátil, quiero decir que hoy estoy contento. Estoy feliz porque veo que ya empieza el buen tiempo, que los embalses están llenos y que Les Carpes abren el sábado. Solo de pensar que el sábado estaré en el recinto aun más sagrado que el propio Templo se me pone los pelos como escarpias!!!

  Hoy me he levantado muy bien y sin signos de malestar de estos últimos días, que han sido muy incómodos para mí. Hoy quería ir al gimnasio, pero no me va a dar tiempo. Miro de cambiar ciertos malos hábitos, y parece que lo estoy consiguiendo. No quiero hacerme el mártir, pero no sabéis lo que cuesta cambiar de ritmo.

En el panorama nocturno se están moviendo ficha. Los nuevos personajes nocturnos vuelven al acecho, algunos están retirados del mundanal ruido y otros solo cambian de plaza. Yo, en mi caso, seguiré en el mismo, dando lo mejor de mí, que para eso es mi gran pasión. Me da miedo de ciertas apariciones en mi terreno que me pueden vaciar mi mar azul cristalino que tanta alegría me da en la vida. Supongo que este será un verano decisivo.  Y en la Gran S vuelven a haber unas ligeras turbulencias. De fondo oigo como en la tertulia de Cuni se habla de que un hombre por equivocación, no por vicio, grabo a la suegra echando una meadilla en el lavabo… Si es que hay cada degenerado suelto…

On top of dominating for the first 8 1/2 innings (more on that later) it seemed that the entire team seemed to play up to their ability. Every positional player had at least one hit, except Fielder, but the pitching was outstanding. Well, for the most part.

Weeks, Cameron, and Hall all managed to get their averages above the Uecker Line. Hardy hit a round tripper, proving that he still knows how to drive the ball. The pitching, led by Manny Parra's 5 2/3 shutout innings, was nothing short of exceptional.

Once again however, Gagne proved to be unable to pitch a scoreless inning. When the Brewers signed Gagne, I believed that he may not be dominant like he once was, but he would be good enough. Has he not only been not good enough, but it is to the point that I am starting to hope he is this years version of Elmer Dessens. In a perfect world the Brewers would put Gagne on the DL and let him get healthy (or whatever)and get some rehabilitation work in the minors so that he could come back and be a competent closer after the All-Star break. Note, I am only looking for COMPETENT, not dominant.

All in all, a good road win for the Brewers. Snapped the nine game road losing streak and hopefully started a new winning streak.

Ingredientes: 100 g de hojas de parra en conserva, 250 g de arroz blanco para sushi, 3 cucharadas de vinagre de arroz, 1 cucharadita de azúcar, 1 cucharadita de aceite de sésamo, 1 cebolla de verdeo, 1 cebolla colorada, 3 cucharadas de semillas de sésamo negro, 10 bastones de kanikama, sal

• Colocar el arroz en una olla y cubrirlo con 2 cm de agua por encima de su volumen. Cocinar tapado 15 minutos a fuego bajo, a partir del herbor. Apagar el fuego y dejar reposar. A los 30 minutos retirar y trabajar con una espátula para separarlo sobre una fuente. Mezclar vinagre de arroz, azúcar, sal y aceite de sésamo hasta conseguir una emulsión estable. Condimentar el arroz y dejar enfriar.

• Picar en láminas la cebolla de verdeo y la colorada. Unir con el arroz y las semillas de sésamo. Cortar el kanikama en láminas Armar rolls con las hojas de parra, enrollando los ingredientes.

Ayer o antes de ayer, estaba hablando con mi vieja por teléfono y hablábamos de mi abuela, que tiene 84 años, vive sola, y hace unos días se cayó y se lastimó feo la pierna.

Ya hace un tiempo que pensamos que es mejor que mi abuela se vaya a vivir a la casa de mis viejos, para tenerla más cerca y poder cuidarla, que no esté sola. Pero ella no quiere de ninguna manera.

Hoy, estaba intentando dormirme, sin demasiada preocupación porque mañana es feriado y no tengo que levantarme a ninguna hora en especial, y de repente algunas imágenes y cosas empezaron a cruzarse por mi cabeza. No estoy seguro por qué, pero tal vez esté intentando entender a mi abuela.

No me es posible describir con lujo de detalle las imágenes y pensamientos porque la estructura fue un poco onírica (o sea que no tenían mucha estructura). Pero, si no recuerdo mal, la imagen que disparó todo o empezó a "conectar" fue la de un racimo de uvas colgando de una parra.

Hace unas semanas tuve una reunión de trabajo en Mendoza, y nos llevaron a un restaurante que tenía un patio, y me encontre debajo de una parra, en puntas de pie, estirándome para alcanzar las uvas y arrancarlas.

Esa situación me transportó inmediatamente a mi infancia: la única parra que yo había conocido en mis casi 31 años de vida, estaba en el patio de la casa de mi abuela. El patio que cada verano se techaba con las hojas de parra y las uvas. El patio que era el lugar de encuentro obligado para el asado o la pasta de los domingos.

En ese lugar, yo me subía a la escalera que lleva a la terraza, y a través de la varanda me estiraba hasta agarrar las uvas y arrancarlas. O cuando era el "día de la cosecha" veía al abuelo José con la escalera plegable y la tijera de podar, y me quedaba mirando desde abajo con el tupper en el que juntábamos las uvas. Creo que recién como a los 10 años, cuando alcancé una altura razonable, pude acceder a cortarlas yo mismo mientras el abuelo me sostenía la escalera.

Pero esa parra, ya hace varios años se secó. Será porque algunos años antes, había dejado de existir el encuentro de los domingos -nadie (o al menos yo) sabe muy bien por qué-.

Ayer o antes de ayer, en la misma conversación con mi vieja, así, como al pasar, me dijo que Marta había cerrado el kiosco.

Mi abuela vive en una esquina, con la puerta principal por la calle Rotterdam y la salida de atrás, que da a la calle Ortega y Gasset. La verdad que para mí siempre fue al revés: la entrada principal fue la de atrás, esa en la que hay que abrir el pasador de la puerta reja, pasar por el patio con la parra y abrir la puerta mosquitero para entrar por el lavadero y pasar después a la cocina.

Sobre Ortega y Gasset, casa de por medio, siempre estuvo el kiosco de Marta, salvo los domingos a la tarde, que se convertía en una persiana baja. El preámbulo del kiosco siempre era el primer cajón del mueble del comedor, donde estaba la plata. Cuando la abuela abría ese cajón venía el billete para ir al kiosco y comprarme el Topolino (el chupetín con sorpresa que debe ser el antecesor del huevo Kinder de hoy), o los Sugus sueltos, o más adelante el Tubby 4. Incluso hubo temporadas de verano, cuando ya tendría unos 12 años que me pasaba el día entero en el kiosco y ayudaba a atenderlo y hasta a ordenar la vidriera.

Ese mismo kiosco que no sé muy bien cuándo, se quedó congelado ahí, en un domingo a la tarde y ahora es sólo una persiana baja.

Así empezaron a aparecer otras imágenes de mi infancia, como la heladería Rochita, la casa de zapatillas Mendes, el kiosco de "la villa" donde íbamos a comprar las figuritas de E.T. -porque Marta no vendía figuritas-, el almacén de Don Pepe...

y me estoy preguntando si así como la parra del patio o el kiosco de Marta todo eso se habrá esfumado y está solamente en mi memoria.

o si todavía hay cosas que están o al menos han dejado algún rastro.

y ahí pensé: si sólo están en mi memoria, por cuánto tiempo más se quedarán ahí?

Me invadió una sensación que me llevó a comenzar a escribir, a hacer memoria, a tener ganas de buscar fotos, volver por esos lugares... a reconstruir mi camino.

Hoy a mis 30, casi 31 años me sorprendí con esta sensación, este sentimiento, que hasta ahora no lograba entender. Esa nostalgia que para mí era "cosa de viejos".

Será que hoy, hace un rato, a eso de las 3 y media de la mañana, me hice viejo?

Capaz que ahora que soy viejo, puedo entender un poco mejor a mi abuela. Y darme la posibilidad de dudar que es realmente lo mejor para ella.
