It's not only stylists who see significance in hands. Experts from fields as diverse as palmistry and biology say it's the hands - not the eyes - that provide the most revealing insights into a person's character.

Some papers this week drew attention to Sarah Jessica Parker's hands. Fidgety, ink-stained and with nails bitten to the quick, Gordon Brown's hands are fast becoming a visible symbol of the pressures he is under. Whilst many scientists are dismissive of palmistry, they do believe that the shape of the hand, or more specifically the relative size of the index and ring fingers, can provide accurate information about an individual. Research by Professor John Manning, author of The Finger Book, suggests those with a long ring finger compared to their index finger are more likely to excel at sporting activities. Those with larger index fingers are more likely to be sociable.

"It is all to do with the amount of the hormones testosterone and oestrogen produced by the foetus while it is in the womb," he says. "More testosterone is indicated by a relatively large ring finger. More oestrogen shows up as a longer index finger."

This for me looks to be an interesting case.

Bad markings

The first thing i can notice is a big island on the headline which is very rare to see.The island is ill formed and not a perfect one.It starts below the jupiter finger and extends almost upto the base of sun finger.This island can be taken to consider as recurrent headaches,lack of mental energy and poor interest in studies.It corresponds to age 16 to almost aroung age 60 which means the person will be a sufferer in this aspect in his major part of life.

His marriage will be in the early years -around 20 to 25.

Life line is thin and also shows dissipation of energy shows a life lacking in vigour and purpose.The second phalanx of the thumb is also short showing the patient lacks belief in himself.First phalanx of Thumb length is greater than the second phalanx.So this person depends more on luck than his self-confidence.This along with the affliction in head line means the person lacks ambition in life. He leads a dependent life shown by the origin of the headline joined with the life line(think this is his right hand).

Another interesting marking is the rising line from middle of lifeline Or Line of fate according to me which runs from the middle of life line to the Saturn mount.It is another major bad marking and shows that he will lead a difficult life and he wont do much to change his poor destiny

Good markings

clearly marked vertical lines in the third phalanx of mercury finger,sun finger with relatively long fingers show that he is person who can come good in politics to some extent.But with a lacking Success line in Sun mount wich most politicians have,he wont be famous or successful.But still he is likely to garner Public support quite well.

Fortunately the line of heart looks to be a good one rising from the mount of jupiter showing the person is affectionate towards his friends and family and leads a happy contented and loyal marital life .He will be an extrovert and does not want to hide emotions.

The chance lines are very less showing this person doesnt worry about his not so good destiny much and has a clear hasslefree mind. with this clarity,i can find only no travel lines found in the lunar mount,so i assume the person will not travel much in life.

There are quite a few moles in the hand -in venus mount,lunar mount etc.I dont have much idea about moles but have heard an interesting proverb that if u have mole on ur palm,u will get sudden Luck(in form of money) from others throughout your life and the person will always have readymade cash. I would love to get some feedback from this case as i find it to be very interesting.

As palmitry science was come to know to the world through Chiero. But the truth is. this science was discovered and developed long time back in India. At the age of Ramayana, it was in well practised by rishi munis(sages and saint). Not only palmistry, even face reading was developed since that time. India wa enriched with all these knowlegde since long.

Cheiro visited india and resided in varanasi and learnt the art. Its all because of him, the art came to known to the world.Big personalities visited Cheiro to known about there future and Cheiro was well and good in practising the same. 

Now coming to the Lines in hands.

There are 3 major lines in hand. Life line, Head line and Heart line.

And 6 major mounts in hand. See in the figure below.

Mount are shown in red color and lines in blue color.

Now the effect of each lines and mount on our life.

First with Life line. It begins from the mount of jupiter or below the mount of jupiter.

Life of a person in calculated from the length of the lifeline. One with good experience can calculate life on a scale 7 years of divison.

Some times the life is found to be short, then it doesnot means the life of a person is short. It may change and expand at any time. Also the at times, a line runs parallel to life line that saves person from having short life. That life is called sister line.

Now types of changes in life line.

1> Life line which goes down to the wrist and cover the mount of venus fully, is the best life line showing vitality and longevity in person life.

2> Life line in the end moves towards the mount of moon suggests person life to be settle far from his birth place and his/her life will be keep on travelling.

3> Life line joining fate line meaning person life is blessed by his/her fate. Sometimes those lines move forward to mount of moon cuttint fate line. same in cse of point 2 written above.

4> At times life line end with a fork, that also means person will settle far away from his birth place.

Now if you see break in your life line, it shows illness and physical suffering. If a sister line is at the back of it then the person recovers soon.

I am happy to live in the age of endless, not to say relentless, chatter in print. It's hard to imagine what it was like when monks still transcribed the bible's stories by hand, and being able to read was considered an unnecessary skill.

Every so often I am so overwhelmed with it all I feel physically sick and nauseous. Unfortunately this lament never elicits any sympathy from friends or family; the most helpful they can come up with is: "Chuck the lot" - son, "don't buy it in the first place" - miserly friend, "make a bon fire" - my father, and he is a fine one to talk since he works in words. Those kind souls who do not wish to add to my pain verbally just roll their eyes, shake their heads, sigh and ask me to get a "proper" day job.

Some years ago a wise woman recommended to not read anything, certainly not papers, for a month. Her argument was plausible; I'd dearly love to follow her advice if only to clear my head. I just can't do it. Could you?

There is a line in my right hand which apparently predicts insanity in later life. I have been trying not to fulfill the prophecy but it gets harder as time goes by.

I think I am beginning to feel my age.  I don’t know if it’s because of this “mood” I’m in this week.  I've been thinking A LOT this week.  And anyone who knows me knows that that ain’t always a good thing.

When I think A LOT, I tend to think in terms of reflection on my life. Past… Present… and Future.  Now, I know it’s not all that unusual for people to reflect on where they’ve been and where they (think) are going.  It’s the natural state of most human beings to assess their progress, or lack thereof, whichever the case may be. 

For me it usually signals that a major turn of events is about to happen in whatever it is I am doing.  My ex-partner used to accuse me, and still does from time to time, of being too easily bored with life and things.  It’s generally true too.  Once I’ve accomplished, figured out, or achieved a certain level of accomplishment in what ever task it is I’m currently involved in, I’m pretty much ready to move on.

A few weeks ago I sat down for an impromptu “reading”.  No, not the kind of reading offered up by some overly egoic drag queen with one too many vodka-cranberries infiltrating her circulatory system.  More of a spiritual reading.  By a medium.  Yeeeeeeess, a psychic.  Someone I’ve known for a long time.  For a very long time.  I’ve watched her work, and I’ve known others who have had quite impressively accurate readings from her as well.  But not me.  I’ve steered away from the temptation to know the unknown.   Successfully for nearly ten years.  Then one evening a few weeks ago, that still small voice in me said clearly and unequivocally, “It’s time.”

So, I sat down for a reading.  Strengthened in confidence by one or two vodka-cranberries in my own system, I sat down in the chair and said simply and without question, “It’s time you did my reading.  I don’t know why, but something tells me it’s just time.”

Now, if you’ve never had a reading before or never experienced Kate Blanchette’s character as a backwoods, small-town psychic who figures out who murdered the town trollip (and, no, that’s not a judgment statement; just a character identification) in the movie, “The Gift”,  then let me tell you how it works. 

Now, I’m no expert and that’s for sure.  My own mother claims a bit of “the gift” of the basic palm reading kind.  She certainly has shared many a childhood and teenage story involving run-ins with spirits, ghosts, witches and shape-shifters… you know, vampires, werewolves, and the like)… when she was going up in country in the Philippines.  And though I never was really convinced that dear ole mom could really tell anyone’s past, present OR future, in the tiney creases of their hands, she was quite convincing in her summations of my friends who would curiously if not slightly regretfully give up their mandibles.

However, palm readings are not the only way our brother and sister (or mother) clairvoyants can peer into the other side.  There’s also hand-laying, body and/or mind merging, chanting, spirit guide evoking and the more common and somewhat less intrusive tarot card reading. 

That’s the reading I was going for when I sat down in the empty chair.  After some brief chit-chat, Terri asked permission to read my palms.  I offer them up with timid anticipation and a small serving of fear of what she might tell me they said.

“Left hand is the Child.  Right hand is the Man,” is about the first and last thing I really remembered her saying for some time.  But at the time of this writing I played back to recapture some of the observations she shared without much effort or basic hesitation and with full focus on the front, back and sides of my hands.

“Oh, you are a thinker.  You carry your emotions very deeply.  You love your friends, and you hold the people close to you VERY close.  But you don’t give your friendship as easily as you used to.  You’ve had three loves but only two really mattered and only one still has your heart.  You are driven by your purpose, but you’re not quite sure what that is.  You are a healer.  A double parent intuitive.  Wow, I don’t meet too many of those.  There’s not that many of us you know.  And a triple crosser.  Hmmmmm…. Hmmhmmmmm… Well… okay.  Breath, honey.  You’re suffocating me…”

Well, needless to say, I was a bit taken a back and a little scared by some of the things she said.  I pulled back a bit.  Not sure what to make of it.  “Ohhh, she’s good.  DAMMIT, she’s good. “ I thought to myself.   This is why I didn’t want to sit down and do this all these years.  I knew she’d tell me some things.  Things that I would know were true.  She continued…

“You are on a very special journey to share something with the rest of the world.  You are an old soul.  Older than most.  But you aren’t coming back around just to come back around.  You have something special to do.  Some sort of mission to fulfill.  You’ve known this for sometime, but you are just now beginning to understand what that means.  Or at least you are beginning to be open to LEARNING what that means.  Does that make sense?”  she asked.  I just nod knowingly.

My mind trembled.  My body was in a slight sweat.  My face revealed my thoughts.  She asked me if I wanted to go on.  I said yes.  She pulled out a deck of cards and asked me to cut them twice and put the stack back together.  She laid my hands on top of the cards with hers on top of mine. 

“State your intention. Not aloud, but internally,” she instructed.  I did as she asked. 

“This will be VERY interesting,” I said to myself.

She turned the cards….

Several aspects of fingers are looked at. These include lengths of fingers, spaces between fingers at their base, and curvature of fingers. Finger nails and skin texture are also looked at. Fingerprints on each finger are checked to see if they are loop, whorl, or tented arch. Some people have composite, or combination prints on different fingers.

I initiated a couple of sessions in BCB6. The first one was on Startup Pains. It was inspired primarily to identify authentic issues that I could take up as a KickStart.in initiative and do my bit towards making Bangalore a heaven for startups. It was led primarily by Prof Suresh. He brought in some presentations and put in a lot of facts in the picture. We got some 5 pain points. 4 of which we had compiled before. The solutions too were something in lines of what we had thought of earlier.

Chetna forced me to sit down with her for her session on Star Signs, astrology, palmistry etc. She chipped in my name and handwriting analysis as well. The session on Star Signs was informative, I figured out that a Star Sign is different from Sun Sign. And as expected there was a lot of debate. I asked if Rajiv, (the guy who was an armature palmist and who seemed to know the most about the topic) if he could tell 1 major incident from my past. If he could accurately say that, I would be a convert. He couldn't but he did say a thing about creativity which I agree with.

Astrology got even more heated arguments.

Now my turn came to speak about Handwriting Analysis and I was already thinking like "what am I doing here?". Anyways, I chose not to talk much. I offered to do a 2 line analysis of 10 people who volunteered. I'll tell 2 things about each of them. If all of them found those two things to be their typical qualities then people could take Handwriting Analysis to be a Science and if it did not match, they could brand it a pseudo science or whatever. And there was only 1 line to read from. It was a gamble, the data was insufficient. But I thought it would be fun and took it on. Result: Out of the 20 or so handwritings that I analyzed, all agreed and only 1 disagreed with a thing I spoke on optimism. I don't know what the others thought of HandwritingAnalysis though.

Shourya was at his cynical and logical best though! When I looked at a sample's T bar and spoke a thing about enthusiasm, he commented immediately about the 2 exclamation marks that the sentence carried (something I hadn't even noticed!!!).

But thats not what made it my best barcamp ever. I just loved the participation. For the first time, I didn't go to the gates to tie the banners. And when Aditya and I went to the L Cluster after the feedback session to clean the place up, we were surprised to find that everything was spic and span!!! This kind of things happen when people take the event as their own. I guess in BCB6, the majority did take it that way!

I met a lot of amazing people as usual. It was just too good an experience to describe in words.
