A year ago today, Princes William and Harry hosted a marathon charity concert at London's Wembley Stadium to celebrate the birthday and the life of their late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. The shindig lasted for hours, with classic music acts loved by Diana and newer artists favored by her sons performing. Music acts were interspersed by personal memories of the Princess and special messages from her favorite charities and causes. Photographs of the Princess were featured prominently on video screens throughout the stadium, including some rare family pictures.

The concert was attended by 63,000 people. Celebrities and members (and friends) of the royal family were among the audience members, including William, Harry, Chelsy Davy, Earl Spencer and his children, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Zara Phillips, Mike Tindall, Peter Phillips, Autumn Kelly and (notably) Kate Middleton, from whom Prince William had reportedly split in April '07. The event was televised live and broadcast all over the world. We're pretty sure it was also the only time that the English National Ballet and Kanye West have ever performed at the same event (though we could be wrong, of course). The BET Awards were last night. It was an interesting night to say the least.
So today we’re going to talk about the awards show. The good things, bad things, funny things, and ironic things that took place last night. Feel free to share your own thoughts on the show.

1. I despise D.L. Hughley. He wasn’t funny or personable and his voice annoys me! I really wish they’d gotten a better host ( he called Marvin Sapp, Warren Sapp)
2. The noticeable lack of certain A-listers – I didn’t see Beyonce or Jay-z, Mary J. or Janet. Kobe didn’t show up for his award and the Dream was MIA as well. Wasn’t that how the slow decline of the Soul Train Awards started.
3. Did anyone else notice that right after Ne-yo got down singing to Debra Lee (BET’s President) he sang the line “she wants to own me”? Ironic and sort of true.
4. Kanye’s Singing! Enough said. But I was also surprised how nice he was to other rappers last night. Maybe he’s not all temper tantrums. (although I do love when he said “I’m one of the Kings of this game, and my opinion counts”)
5. T-pain, bathe! Like you don’t have to be as unattractive as you are! Just choose to look better, take shower, shave!! and you always wearing something that looks entirely too hot. Now Nelly with his shirt off... was Faboulous!!
6. This is the 8th year of the BET Awards, why do you still have problems with sound and Microphones?? Folks coming in early( Kanye), or coming in late(Fergie) on their own tracks and mess, no one practices anymore?? Are the producers that sucky?!
7. And can the people in charge of pushing the cursing button please learn the songs!? Some of the words that were bleeped out were not curse words and some of the curse words slipped through. LAME
8. BET’s sorry attempts at appeasing those of us who have complaints about BET’s Content ( or lack there of) left me more annoyed than satiated. Why put Black History, Gospel and an Obama Plug in one song. I love MARVIN Sapp, but he deserved better than that. BET a Montage of pictures behind a gospel song does not make up for the lack of Black History on what’s supposed to be Black Entertainment Television. Do better all year BET so you wont have to do shabby montages one day a year.
9. Chris Brown. Yay! I love him, he’s so cute. I’m still young but he’s so young itmakes me feel like a dirty old lady. That is all.
10. Alicia Keys’ Girl group reunion was AMAZING!! I’m still sad whenever I see TLC without the “L” but it was still a great performance and Kudos to En Vogue for still looking FABULOUS!!!! Get it Ladies!
11. Al Green!! Everyone in his tribute did a wonderful job, but HE turned it Out!! Great stuff!
12. I root for Frankie and Nefi, I was glad to see them looking nice and doing the “viewers choice.” thing . Keyshia did a decent job last night too (notice her “ Mary-like” dancing)
13. My Grandpa calls Rihanna, “umbrella” (instead of her name). He kept saying when is “Umbrella” coming up? So when she came on stage and didn’t sing “Umbrella” (the song) he was highly disturbed. And kept saying “she done messed up now!” LOL
14. My mother is highly disturbed that Debra Lee speaks every year. Mom: “Oh Good Lord her again? She must love the sound of her own squeaky voice!”
15. Ashanti's look disturbed me! Girl if you have to hold the dress all night, then it was not appropriate for the evening! she looked prettier at some of the other events she attended during the week.
16. Diddy getting drunk and goofy at the after show made my night! Drunk Diddy’s funny.

What did you think about the show? What stuck out in your mind?

The hook, as Shaq reminds us for half of the 2-minute clip, is "Kobe, tell me how my ass tastes." Our guess is something like that fluorescent Gatorade-sweat fluid that oozes out of players in the commercials. But the song's not half bad. We like the line:

Ain' t nobody in the world do it bigger than me
That's like a white boy trying to be more nigga than me

Though we wonder who wrote it. Word is, Diddy has some pretty good ghostwriters in his Rolodex, so maybe Shaq called up his famous neighbor for a hand.

We could tell you more, about how Shaq Diesel went platinum (!) and reference that "shit is real" line from Notorious B.I.G.'s "Gimme the Loot," why waste words? Video of the Kobe dis -- and that music video with the giant cellphone -- after the jump.

Wait, he waxes his nuts and then splashes cologne on that shit?! His nuts must be dipped in bronze because that sounds as pleasant as a finger bang from Edward Scissorhands.

50 Cent unexpectedly had some sharp words for T.I. on “You So Tough,” a new G-Unit track that was previewed to media members last week in New York. Now the rapper, in an interview with Mixtape Monday, gives props to Shawty Lo, who has been at odds with Tip for months.

Is Diddy in love? Well, no, but he did say that Derek Luke captured his heart. The actor is playing the Bad Boy CEO in the upcoming Biggie biopic, Notorious. And Diddy said Luke went “deeper.” “It’s hard to play me,” Diddy explained. “But somehow he did it. He took the time to sit down and ask the questions and got to see deeper what was behind what was on television or the media. He was able to capture that and capture my heart.”

Kanye West, it’s safe to say, is particular. He commandeered a highly-technical set for his latest tour, “The Glow In The Dark” trek and sometimes…it just takes a really long time to put that shit together. Too much for a recent crowd at Bonnaroo. The rap star was scheduled to take to the stage at 2:45 AM, but he didn’t show up until 4:45 in the morning. The delay, it seems, was cause by ‘Ye’s set, which took a while to put up after the previous performer, Pearl Jam, finished their set. The fans, however, weren’t very understanding. They began chants of “Kanye sucks” and started thowing glow sticks on the stage. Then they went to sleep.

Ed McMahon’s house is going to be foreclosed on. He has said that if you spend more than you make, this is what happens. Don’t you think he HAD to be somewhere in Johnny Carson’s will? And the real question…where is Publisher’s Clearing House when you need them? Bring Ed a check and some balloons! Shit! How long as Old Ed been pushing your bullshit sweepstakes.

P-Diddy makes himself a vodka lemonade cocktail and listens to James Brown while he waxes his own balls. He admits to this. Puffy, a bottle of Ciroc and some Sally Hansen? I’m all about keeping your naughty bits maintained…and there aren’t a lot of people out there who are going to appreciate some “organization” down there more than me. But a Vodka Lemonade cocktail? That’s prissy bro. Is he wearing a fuzzy monogrammed robe while he does it too? The first time I got my situation waxed, I brought a bottle of Patron Silver IN the room with me. Granted, my aesthetician was the first person to babysit me – when I was six months old, back in Strongsville – so there is a good level of trust and rapport there.

The Boston Celtics, after a 22 year drought, have won the NBA Finals! Congrats to the Celts for putting the Lakers in their place. Hi – Kobe can’t win championships. There is no KOBE in TEAM. We Clevelanders speak from experience. We know that one man on his own cannot win your city the NBA Finals. LeBron, while he might be one of the greatest players to ever step on a court, still needs a team around him. With KG at the helm, Paul Pierce being the unexpected dark horse and Ray Allen finally being able to compartmentalize his clusterfuck of a personal life from his professional performance, it was Boston’s to lose.

Earlier today, the UK's Daily Mail come out with a rather T.M.I.'ish interview with the rap mogul where he said (among other things):

"My clothing line is like fashion Viagra. While I'm getting ready I like to relax with a drink – vodka and lemonade – and listen to my music, usually some James Brown.

Then I'll have a manicure and pedicure – and yes, I wax as well. Grooming's very important and men owe it to women to make sure they're well groomed.

This is an embarrassment and a disgrace. Apparently P. Diddy lead a "Obama or Die" chant at the BET Awards.

Well, we know how successful P. Diddy's "Vote or Die" campaign was back in '04. Perhaps people should be told about Obama's poll numbers, associations and the PUMA movement before the t-shirt's are manufactured. 

So long P. Diddy, Diddy, Sean John, and Puffy.

Sean Combs has started using his Puff Daddy namesake again – over a decade after he achieved stardom with the moniker.

"They call me Puff Daddy... he's back," the mogul raps on the remix of O'Neal McKnight's single "Check Your Coat." (McKnight is Combs' former stylist.)

"Yeah you heard me right – I said Puff Daddy," he continues. "I'm about to back on that Puff Daddy shit."

Combs also posted on his MySpace page: "This is your boy Puff Daddy!!! Yes Puff Daddy."

But, Diddy’s rep tells Usmagazine.com: ”This is not true. There is no name change.”
