The Poison fight post has been the top dog for a long time, the day I posted it I ended up with the best single day ever with close to 17,000 hits! Before that, I think my best day was couple hundred readers. The Poison video is going to get taken out by Journey with their new singer Arnel Pineda. Like them or not, Journey has always been a worldwide band and with Filipino Arnel on the mic, they are now more than ever. If I were to expand this list to the Top 20, there would be four more Journey related posts! A lot of people are getting a chance to see/hear the new Journey from the full video of the Festival Del Mar 2008 in Chile and the two press releases. Personally, I like the fact that Gene Simmons is at #5 not just because my favorite band is KISS but because look at that train wreck! Like I said in the post, too bad they didn't fix his vocal chords while they were at it!

Quiet Riot makes the top spot unfortunately due to the news of Kevin DuBrow's passing. Unfortunately, the hits for this post picked up when Kevin died.....RIP Kevin. No surprise that Ozzy's last record made the list because the guy is just popular with all Metal fans. BLACK RAIN made my 5 Worst of 2007 list at #4 and I have had a ton of email pointing out what an idiot I am for calling it a subpar effort. Another no brainer was Iron Maiden's last album making the list, this album review seems to get a fair amount of hits every week.

The next three surprise me because they are in my Top Posts list everyday. Of all the Tony Martin era posts I did, FORBIDDEN gets a ton of hits everyday. I consider FORBIDDEN the weakest effort of that Sabbath era but people are searching and reading about it. Legs Diamond and Lita Ford are duelling for the #5 spot, that's why I post six on the list. Everyday I see both of these reviews getting a ton of views, both are definitely "cult" albums but I didn't think they would get that much attention, especially the Legs Diamond review.

My father's grandmother died early this morning. She was 93 years old.

I didn't know her that well. There was a time when I visited her every year at her home in Fort Myers, Florida, almost like clockwork. But things haven't worked out too well for me the last few years, skipping from job to job and never having the time or money to travel, and we fell out of touch.

Not that I really felt welcome there. Rather, I had this feeling that I was tolerated as the idiot grandson. My grandmother was sharp as a tack, and a muddle-headed grandson like me couldn't have inspired much admiration or hope for the future... at least, that what I told myself, over and over and over.

I kept meaning to visit her, but it never happened. Then she had a scare about a month ago - I won't go into details; I don't know you that well - and my parents finally talked her into moving in with us. They moved her things into the house and set her up in the room next to mine. I felt like... I don't know, fear, maybe? Anxiety? Maybe a little dread?

I mean, what if she needed help and I wasn't able to give it? What health problems would she have? What would the move do to her, physically and emotionally? What care would she need?

Still, it was good knowing that she would live with us. I've been trying to get my parents to rent that room, get a little extra cash. Now someone was going to live in it - free, but that wasn't the point. You don't charge rent to family, and family was moving in.

I was kind of looking forward to having her. I hadn't seen her in a while, and the whole experience promised something new and a little frightening. We were counting the days, fixing up her room and fidgeting over where we were going to put all her stuff.

Then I woke up this morning , and my mother met me at the door and told her that she'd died in her sleep.

This may sound terrible, but I don't know why her death has hit me so hard. I mean, there was a time when Grandma was the free hotel room in Florida and not much else.

But maybe that's the hook. I've run out of time to get to know her, not as just as the free room and board, but as my grandmother, as the mother of my father. I was always too selfish and self-absorbed to really notice her (still am, as a matter of fact; just count how many times I've used the words I and my in this post). Now it's too late to fix that.

This is kind of a thoughtful occasion, so pardon me if I get a little maudlin today. But I want to stew in my own juices, and this is good stewing-in-your-own-juices music.

This is a song that always tugs at my heartstrings, and now more than ever: Enigma's Return to Innocence.

The show is set to run along side American Idol on Fox and should include musical performances, comedy sketches, gameshows, audience participation and pre-taped elments such as "Ozzy meets more Osbournes" where the rock legend meets with some more apples from the Osbourne family tree. The show is even scheduled for a Christmas special. Of course Im sure if they sold a "christmas with the osbournes" kit it would include a bottle of whiskey, 4 botox injections, and a pre dialed 911 cell phone.

FACT

-Release is Currently set for October 2008

-Players can play either the guitar, drums, or perform vocals.

-All instruments are wireless

-The new guitar has many added feature: a touch pad on the neck next to the buttons that allows for altering notes during sustains or tapping, a back select button that looks like a bridge, a bigger body, a d-pad that looks more like a knob.  In-game customization options include body shape, finish, color, decals, fret board inlay, headstock shape and finish, pick guards, knob shape, pickups, bridge, and string type.

-The guitar player has a 6^th note played by strumming w/o pressing a button.

-The Mic has no buttons, so a controller will need to be used for menus.  Activating star power w/ the mic is done by tapping or making a similar quick sound at any time.  In-game customization options include shape, shell finish, skins, sticks, and decals.

-The drums have three pads, two symbols, and a pedal.  Star power is activated by hitting both symbols simultaneously.  These are also much quieter than Rock Band drums.  In-game customization options include microphone stand types and colors.

-Characters include all from GH II & III as well as real rockers and customs.

-Character customization can be as basic or detailed as you like.  Almost everything can be customized.

-It’s not just about classics anymore.  Confirmed artists include Linkin Park, Van Halen, Sublime, Billy Idol, the Eagles, Lenny Kravitz, Blink 182, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the Foo Fighters.

 -Career mode involves touring around the world (…) and playing various venues.  Game play is non-linear, so you can start at whatever difficulty level you want.

-A new “beginner” difficulty level which is easier than “easy” is included.

-Everything you do while signed in as your main character will earn you “cash” and guitarhero.com bonuses, even if you’re not playing career mode.

-The initial disc has over 85 songs, all master recordings.

-DLC from Guitar Hero III isn’t compatible.

-There will be an in-game music store shortly after launch that includes full albums and regularly updated releases.

-You can make music w/ the music creator by simply playing, or going deeper, but there is no vocal recording.

-The Wii will have all DLC options that they PS3/360 will have.

It may be hard to imagine the likes of Alice Cooper alongside Donny and Marie Osmond, and the Bee Gees.  Yet, in 1971, thanks to the nutty melting pot of pop radio, Alice's "I'm Eighteen" cohabitated the upper reaches of the pop charts alongside the bubblegum acts and sensitive folkies (James Taylor).  Currently in his fifth decade of performing, Alice Cooper is back with Along Came A Spider, his 25th album.  And instead of having to share space with Donny Osmond, he's staking a spot among our favorite devilish heavy rockers.  This "concept" album tells the story of a fictional serial killer named Spider and features Cooper's trademark theatrical heavy metal.  The songs tell a loose story, and they're certainly tuneful while maintaining their metal roots.  The best stuff comes first: "Vengeance Is Mine," with guitar work from Slash, rocks harder than Alice has in at least a decade and a half, and "Wake The Dead" is a close second (the song is co-written by Ozzy Osbourne, who also plays harmonica on the track).  By the time we get to "Killed By Love," it's power ballad time - done as only Alice Cooper can do a power ballad - and it recalls Cooper's 1970s heyday.  So does "I'm Hungry," which is a rewrite of "I'm Eighteen."  Despite such lapses, much of Along Came A Spider is at least as listenable as much of today's best metal (Motley Crue, Heaven and Hell), much to its credit.  Alice Cooper - certainly your father's heavy metal.  He may be in danger of breaking a hip, but he rocks.

El LP pertenece todavía al reino de las intenciones, pero el cantante espera poder completarlo durante el próximo año. Más firme es la publicación del nuevo DVD, que llevará el título de “Zombie Live” y será más un documental sobre sus conciertos que un directo en sí. Rob calcula que llegará a las tiendas en primavera. No tiene fecha fija, en cambio, la publicación de esa caja con todo el material grabado por White Zombie, proyecto largamente pospuesto al cual el vocalista no quiere dar más largas.

No debe de serle fácil compaginar su actividad musical y su trabajo como director de cine, labor con la cual parece cada vez más involucrado. Está a punto de finalizar su primera película de animación, “The Haunted World of El Superbeasto”, y ya maquina una próxima película de imagen real, que, sorpresa, no será de terror.

Todos estos proyectos deberán esperar a que finalice su actual gira junto a Ozzy Osbourne, con quien mantiene una magnífica relación desde hace casi diez años. Por cierto, en sus declaraciones a la MTV, Rob Zombie habló de pasada acerca de un disco nunca editado de Ozzy. En 1995, el manager de Rob, que conocía a Sharon Osbourne, le llevó a mansión del legendario vocalista. “Y fue genial. Siempre he adorado a Ozzy y a Black Sabbath, y aquel día fue muy gracioso porque estabamos Ozzy y yo en su casa, y él me interpretó el álbum entero que había hecho con Mark Hudson, que sonaba muy a los Beatles. Esta banda fue formada en el año 1968 en Birmingham, Inglaterra. Su primera formación contó con Tony Iommi en guitarras, Geezer Butler en bajo, Bill Ward detrás de los parches de la batería y, por último, pero no por eso menos importante, con el legendario Ozzy Osbourne en la voz principal.

Muchas bandas declararon ser admiradoras de Black Sabbath y haber tomado en sus composiciones su influencia rockera dura, opresiva y oscura que, a mediados de la década del '70, ya particularizaba a los heavies de Birmingham y los diferenciaba claramente de Led Zeppelin y Deep Purple, dos de los grupos más populares en aquel momento. Following up on our previous post, here are three heavy metal covers done right. Arab Strap (pictured above) do a version of "You Shook Me All Night Long" which should erase any memory of Celine Dion's butchery. And as promised, here's Emm Gryner's quiet, piano-based version of Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train."  Finally, the Dresden Dolls dusted off Black Sabbath's 1970 anti-Vietnam-War anthem,  "War Pigs," for their live shows:

 La sortie de prison de Beanie Sigel au début 2005, en plus de la médiatisation du divorce entre Jay-Z (devenu président de Def Jam) et Damon Dash (qui l’a gardé sous son aile en créant immédiatement son éphémère label Dame Dash Music Group), avait favorisé le buzz pour son 3^e album, The B.Coming, qui s’est soldé à l’époque par des chiffres effarants : plus 200 000 copies au compteur dès la première semaine de sa commercialisation. Mais le vent a très vite tourné pour B.Mack - comme il aime se surnommer - puisqu’il s’est retrouvé du jour au lendemain sans maison de disque après la faillite subite de DDMG (et celle de l’amour-propre de Dame Dash). C’est là que son mentor Jigga, dans un élan de charité, lui propose le jour de la fête son anniversaire (le 6 Mars 2007 pour être exact) de rejoindre l’écurie qui l’a vu, Roc A Fella Records pour y sortir son 4^e LP. Prévu pour s’intituler Return of the Bad Guy, Beanie s’en est finalement tenu au traditionnel titre nominal, qui est cette fois The Solution. Beanie Sigel justifie ce titre en parlant d’un point de vue personnel comment il a vécu le déchirement du Roc fin 2004 et ce qui l’a poussé à redevenir le bras droit de Jigga (le gauche étant réservé à Memphis Bleek).

Cet album a une connotation particulière parce qu’il contient des textes écrits après sa libération. On aurait pu s’attendre alors à un opus de l’acabit de B.Coming, ou alors un album empli de haine et de vengeance. Et bien on s’est mis le doigt dans l’œil. Sans remettre en cause son indéniable talent de lyriciste et un flow des plus acérés, la première partie d’album est risquée, mitigée et peu ambitieuse malgré le single « All of the Above » feat R Kelly et produit par The Runners, le chanteur r&b qui n’a visiblement plus d’amertume envers Jay-Z depuis le bide de leur tournée en commun. Si on s’attendait à des thèmes plus inspirés, ce n’est pas trop le cas, et en ce qui concerne les beats, Beanie n’a pas trouvé chaussure à son pied. Entre le hardcore « Go Low » (feat Rock City) aux accents ragga, l’irracontable « Bout That » servi par les Cool & Dre et le « Pass The Patron » entièrement gâché par le refrain chanté de Diddy (malgré une prod bouncy de Rockwilder et les caméos de Ghostface et Peedi Crakk), il n’y a pas de quoi prendre son pied, pas même l’intervention de Jay-Z qui ne déploie que le minimum syndical sur « Gutted ». « You Ain’t Ready » est la copie carbone de la track du même nom (produite par Dame Grease au passage) présente sur le Super Gangster de Styles P avec qui il partage l’affiche, le bémol de trop. 

À partir de « I’m In » à l’âme soul/r&b signé Chad West, les choses commencent à s’améliorer vaguement. Toute la seconde moitié de The Solution est produite par Dre & Vidal, un duo de producteurs à la renommée discrète, à l’exception de « Rain (Bridge) » laissé à Reefa, un morceau reconnaissable (façon de parler) grâce à la présence imposante de Scarface et du crooner Raheem DeVaughn, qui lui se permet de repasser sur « Prayer » en fin d’album. Les yeux sont écarquillés en face de « Jugement Day » et « Dear Self », en feat avec respectivement le papy rockeur Ozzy Osbourne et James Blunt. Les yeux oui, mais pars les oreilles, qui détectent une part de mensonge : ils sont juste samplés pour l’occasion (on reconnaît facilement « No Bravery » de James Blunt),, pas de véritables duos manigancés par les maisons de disque comme avec Sinik. Dans ce cas, pourquoi ne pas avoir crédité Jay-Z pour avoir été scratché à outrance sur « What They Gon Say To Me » ? Pas très honnête comme démarche. Donc pour résumer, à part trois, quatre titres à garder, il n’y a pas assez de pièces à se mettre sous la dent. Le MC de Philly a peut-être les crocs, mais il rogne les mauvais beats. 

Malheureusement, The Solution ne laissera pas de traces indélébiles dans nos mémoires, si ce n’est le souvenir d’un album correct, ce qui est insuffisant pour un MC de cette trempe. Rien de mauvais globalement, loin de là, ça paraît juste décevant à l'écoute. Tout comme le dernier Freeway, ce quatrième album de Beanie Sigel aurait pu bénéficier d’une durée de vie plus conséquente s’il était construit du même bois que ses anciens disques, à savoir avec les producteurs de la maison Roc A Fella et non pas des fournisseurs sudistes. Pourquoi ne pas avoir gardé Just Blaze à la place ? C’était la meilleure solution pour entériner sa carrière, reste à savoir s’il gardera cette option pour son 5e album, afin d’honorer comme il se doit son contrat chez Def Jam.
