Bye,bye.

What we know today as a TRAVESTI or TRANSVESTITE is something that changes in meaning depending on

What we know today as a TRAVESTI or TRANSVESTITE is something that changes in meaning depending on the context. These contexts can be historical as well as cultural. All to commonly they the context in which these individuals are discussed is nevernever far from the discussion of prejudice, intolerance, substance abuse and violence. These is even more exaggerated when you deal with cultures as complex as that of Brazil. Here the negatives are worsened and there is no one for these individuals to turn to for legitimate and reliable help,

The day to day of these human beings is best described with words like - PREJUDICE , DISCRIMINATION, ABUSE , VIOLENCE. Words that define the daily lives of thousands of Travestis that live in the big cities of Brazil.

From schools ,top homes , to families, to the general media there are an infinite number of situations that cause great suffering to these human beings . Aggressions , discrimination, estrangement , moral insult , and all sorts of individual traumas that we can not even imagine to be able to describe without having lived through these tragedies ourselves. There is so much work that need s to be done to turn this around. To change the homophobia , the prejudice , to simple tolreance and respect of teinherent rights of individuals to be individuals and treated with dignity.

There is not a social refuge for the travesti in Brazil - that is to say not outside of the sex industry , and maybe with a lot of luck and money , maybe a beauty salon. These confines these individuals to dive deeper into the underworld of prostitution and human trafficking, , and whether we agree or disagree with these activities we must respect that they are not themselves breaking any laws and are only trying to survive.

There are countless rights as citizens that these individuals are denied here, in most cases they and their loved one are unaware of all that they are being denied by way of basic human rights, Their rights to property and professional opportunity are compromised consistently. There are no laws established for their protection and leaves these human individuals to a world with out law and order for them to seek recourse from./

SOS DIGNITY wants to change this. We want to change the daily suffering to daily success so that they may enjoy the basic rights and freedoms that all human beings are entitled to. And we need YOUR helphelo to do this , we need your help now. Tomorrow is a hell away when we could be building steps to a earthly home that would give hope that even a heaven could be found in the here and now.

The time I go to sleep and wake up this semester is identical to that before college so the past few weeks were full of recollections. When I was in high school, I couldn’t wait to enter college. I couldn’t wait to be in control of my time and activities. I couldn’t wait to learn from professors experts in what they teach. I couldn’t wait to work in one of the tall buildings in the Makati area. I couldn’t wait to earn my own money and buy all the things I want. But now I want to go three years back. I miss my happiest year in high school. I miss Quesci. I miss my classmates. I miss meeting on Saturdays supposedly to do a group work but ending up watching movies, chatting and dividing the work and doing it at home. I miss algebra, conic sections, aqueous solutions and organic compounds. I miss reading contemporary literature and memorizing names of 20th century Filipino writers and the titles of their pieces. I miss creating costumes made from recycled materials for the Mr. & Ms. Scitech. I miss practicing singing for the Carol Fest in the cool air of December. I miss winning.

***

I miss my brother. My family and some relatives attended my brother’s incorporation in the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) six weeks ago and the fact that I wasn’t there made me miss him. This brother of mine I’m talking about is the eldest guy and the second eldest of six siblings (Yes, you read it right. We’re six.), while I’m third. Like every other brothers with a small age difference or like every other pair of siblings with no other sibling/s in between, we’re not close. We often fought and, I don’t know if we’re the only siblings in the world who do this after a dispute, we don’t talk to each other for as long as we can. We haven’t talked for a decade and my life was hell with him under the same roof. He lived in the house like he’s the only one residing in it, his mp3 player and TV reverberating in all three floors. Last year, he dropped out of school after obtaining failing grades. Our dad introduced him to the idea of entering PMA, PNPA or MAAP and I was so happy to discover that studying there necessitates him living far away. He qualified in all the requirements which include 20/20 vision, a written exam, fitness tests and an interview. He chose PMA and last April he left for Baguio with nothing – no clothes aside from their uniform, no hygienic supplies, no nothing. There are stories telling about how tough studying there, like freshmen being beaten up for simple missteps like smiling. They are even not allowed to hold the banana in eating it – they have to fork it. I really can’t imagine how a disobedient man like him can survive it. I know he’s having a hard time there right now and I feel sorry for him.

***

I’m now a member of the first and only Philippine (not to mention, one of the most awarded) chapter of the prestigious Association of Computing Machinery (ACM). Does that put me in league with the likes of Andrew Tanenbaum and Robert Sebesta?

***

Congratulations to the Philippines for winning for the second straight time the junior division of the World Championships of the Performing Arts, the entertainment analogue to the Olympics. The country reaffirms its status as a force to reckon with in singing. It started sending contestants to the event only in 2005 because the registration fee was insanely expensive for a Filipino pocket. It sent two singers, one male and one female, and it has the least number of contenders, but the two still went on to win the golds in all the genres they competed and ultimately the title Grand Vocalist of the World. The next years saw the team raking in almost all the medals in singing.

If you can’t see the video because your job has it blocked *which is fine…you should be

If you can't see the video because your job has it blocked *which is fine...you should be working ANYdamnWAY*, Mr. Illmatic and hooked up with ColorOfChange.org to deliver a petition with 620,000 signatures to Fox News and Bill "I Just Beat a Sexual Harrassment Case Because I Was Trying To Phone Bone A Coworker..and I Even Offered To Buy Her Sex Toys" O'Reilly in protest of their racist, sexist and fear mongering brand of "journalism." 620,000 signatures is a LOT of people to sign a petition, online or not. I mean damn, that's a helluva lot of online traffic and a HELL of a lot of Bic pens that lost their lives in the name of protest. Let's have a moment of silence for those server racks and ink cartridges. WE MAJOR!!! *see what I just did there? HA!*

And now on to my problem with Color of Change reaching out to Nas of all the damn rappers on the face of the Earth. Oochie Wally and You Owe Me. Yeah, I said it. Oochie frickin Wally and You Owe Me. Regardless of how much A&R and label pressure *not to mention how many times he makes a Black Girl Lost or If I Ruled The World type track* Nas had to include those songs on their respected albums...he still had them circulating on MTV and BET. It's not like those jawns were slow to bubble either. They spent a significant amount of time in the top 20 countdowns during their prime. I'm not even going to mention the fact that Nas has a new album out which needs promotion. From what I can tell from the youtube video, Nas only made one reference to the album. I'm sure Billy will have his researchers and stat trackers count how many times Nas has said "nigga" and made derogatory terms towards women in his songs.

I'd really like organizations to stop using rappers/actors as spokespeople for your causes. I understand y'all may share views with said rapper/actor/athlete...they're still an entertainer. Go find yourself an educator or author. Go find yourself a CEO or a college student to put a face to your cause. As a 28 year old black man in the United States...I can remember Belly. I can remember the Oochie Wally video. I can remember when several members of the Dallas Cowboys got popped for coke. I can also remember when Bill Cosby stopped being Cliff Huxtable and he became William Cosby...the man that cheated on Camille. I can also remember when most of the programs on TV were suitable to watch at any time of the day. There was no Maury. There was no Jerry. There was only Phil Donahue and Oprah. Children these days don't have those kinds of memories. All they know is 50 Cent, Heath Ledger dying of an overdose, Cita's World on BET, and "reality" television. I'm charging people that want to make a change to bring back the school book fair. Library trips. Finding guest speakers to come to your middle/high school that have actually GONE from ashy to classy by means of an education or the drive to succeed.

Once we're gone, the kids these days will have to deal with another Bill O'Reilly and they won't be armed with the weapons they need to take him down if all they can remember is Ocho Cinco doing a river dance in the endzone after a score.

Oh, and I'd like to big up ColorOfChange.org for at least making the attempt.

Let me just say it works exactly like you think it would. It is a small app that you can get for free from the iPhone App Store works great on the iPhone and the iPod Touch. It allows you to post to your Wordpres.org powered blog or you Wordpress.com blog (like me). You can access all of your accounts, and write your entry right on the phone. This is where things get flaky, for me at least. Imagine this scenario... You just finished writing up an entry and want to publish it to your blog. You have to set a time for it to publish, you can't just write up you entry and hit a publish button. This is annoying to say the least. What it does instead is put it into you drafts folder and does one of two things. It either waits for the publish time you set, or it sits in you draft folder until you find yourself at a computer publishing that way. I don't understand the technical problem that prevents them from allowing you to simply press a publish button and publish the entry straight to your blog.

To wrap this up in a scentance or two, this is a great app to publish an entry to you blog if you are out and about and see something happen, it will save you entry into a folder and wait for you to publish it latter. Nothing more nothing less. You can't edit you blogs templates(my guess is because of screen size) or anything you just post. It's a great app and if your a wordpress user and and iPhone owner it is a must have. Period.

Kepengurusan pertama aku dipercaya menjadi Wakil Bendahara Umum. Lalu kepengurusan sekarang (kedua,
bagiku), aku mengambil alih posisi si PeDe (bakhen!) sebagai Editor in Chief alias Pemimpin Redaksi.
Tugas Pemred ? PROFESI punya beragam media terbitan / produk seperti :

Gelegar ; berisi liputan selama Ospek Universitas dan Fakultas, terbit 4x sesuai dengan jumlah hari Ospek. Peliputan, Pengeditan, serta Cetak, each single day of the initiation-day

Suplemen ; berisi dinamika seputar kampus

GonjangGanjing ; berisi mengenai kasus seputar kampus, satu tema dengan peliputan mendalam

Majalah PROFESI ; cakupan nya luas, tentang Teknologi + Social Interest masyarakat

Lensa ; fokus ke permasalahan sosial

Antologi Puisi ; berisi puisi-puisi ciamik

Aku sih okay-okay aja sebenernya. Jadi Proker. Plus wajib. Gak papa gitu.

Jangan jadikan alasan : "they are just another quiters" , karena harus kita akui kita-lah yang menyebabkan kondisi suasana yang 'kurang bersahabat'.

Aminnn..

Salam Mahasiswa !
Salam PROFESI !
