The usual line in my head when I see something equally as appalling would be, "They took this thing to consideration?" What the deuce were they thinking? The formulaic over-zealous kids and mom serving the crushed fruit to me seems the only way to market fluid in such a happy colour.

This display of reverse genius has reduced the littlest of the OJ fan in me to morsel size. Go grapefruit! See, I think fans of grapefruit would never come up with something like this. I'm telling you, its the bitterness that brings out the class in everything. And that, applies to everything.

Thank god they banned this showcase of ignominious bestial affinity.

Tout simplement parce que l'ASA (Advertising Standards Agency), l'autorité de vérification des publicités britannique, a reçu 147 plaintes le jour de la diffusion de cette publicité pendant le programme populaire auprès de la ménagère de moins de 50 ans intitulé : "How to Look Good Naked" ("Comment être belle toute nue"... pas vraiment un programme pour enfants, n'est-ce pas ?), plaintes émanant à la fois de téléspectateurs et d'associations de défense des enfants.

Claude Knights, directrice de l'association Kidscape, a ainsi affirmé au quotidien britannique The Telegraph qu' "Orangina est une boisson qui est principalement destinée aux enfants et aux jeunes, mais (que) cette nouvelle publicité place le produit dans un contexte très sexualisé et provocant. Le portrait presque sinistre des animaux dans un style animé rempli d'insinuations sexuelles conduit à des messages assez confus".

Que voit-on a l'écran ? La publicité est réalisée en film d'animation et dure 60 longues secondes. L'action se déroule dans la jungle et est basée sur une histoire d'amour entre une biche et un ours, tous deux en tenues assez courtes (rien de vraiment dégradant puisque les animaux sont généralement nus dans la nature !). Après d'interminables danses et chorégraphies de girafes, pandas et lapins buvant de la boisson gazeuse sur un air de Salsa, de flamants roses faisant du pole dance, la publicité se termine finalement sur des bouteilles d'Orangina explosant entre les cuisses de zèbres et de la boisson jaillissant de la poitrine d'une pieuvre.

Jusqu'à présent, la compagnie Dr Pepper Snapple Group, a qui appartient Orangina depuis 2000, n'a pas souhaité commenter l'affaire. Faites-vous en une idée propre, cliquez sur le clip suivant :

A soft drink ad aired in the UK has had TV viewers, a children's charity and equal rights groups all fizzing with anger.
 
The TV ad for Orangina features gyrating hips, bottles erupting from between thighs and shooting the effervescent liquid over bikini-clad breasts, as well as other sexual imagery.
 
Before you all start racing to find it on You Tube, the characters in this 60-second ad are all anthropomorphized furry animals, zebras, gazelles and other exotic creatures.

According to The Independent newspaper, Britain's Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has received 147 complaints since the ad was first broadcast at the beginning of August.
 
Kidscape, the children's charity, is among those complaining.  Director Claude Knights said, "Orangina is a drink that is mainly aimed at children and young people but this new ad places the product in a very sexualized and provocative context.
 
"The almost sinister portrayal of animals in an animation style filled with sexual innuendo leads to very mixed and confused messages."
 
Believe it or not Claude Knights is a woman.  Surely with a name like that she is equally guilty of sending out a mixed and confused message to children.  I sense she is perhaps just using children as the excuse to justify her own dislike of the ad.

According to TalkingRetail.com, soft drinks firm AG Barr, which produces Orangina under license from Dr Pepper Snapple Group, markets it as an adult drink.  I think they would know better than Ms. Knights at whom the drink is targeted.
 
Equal rights groups are also incensed by the ad, claiming that it is sexist in its depiction of scantily-clad female animals pandering, or should that be 'panda-ring,' to the male animals.
 
A spokesperson for the ASA said, "We are looking at the complaints and haven't made a decision about whether or not to investigate yet.  This is a question of taste and decency."
 
The ad is the work of the Paris agency FFL and is themed on the concept of "pulpeuse," which in French means not only "containing pulp," as the drink does, but also "sexy" or "voluptuous." It was directed by Psyop, a creative group based in New York, and features extensive use of computer-generated imagery (CGI) alongside traditional cinematographic techniques.  The ad took four months to produce between agencies in London and France.

 
FFL's executive creative directors Fred and Farid said, "Around 20 art directors created the animals and then we asked Psyop to recreate everything in CGI and make these animals come alive."
 
"We have never made a campaign that post tested so well," they added.  "People love it."
 
That sentiment was echoed by Adrian Troy, the head of marketing at AG Barr. "The ad has enjoyed a phenomenal response in France where Orangina is famous for its iconic advertising," he said.
 
But since the complaints have poured in, the response from both AG Barr and Dr Pepper Snapple Group has been rather flat.  Both firms have been unavailable for comment.

Jon and I just returned to London this evening after a weekend in Vienna.  The weather was warm and sunny, and Vienna's pretty cobblestoned streets were uncrowded (likely because all the Viennese are spending their August in Greece, Turkey and Spain, just like their German neighbors).

In any event, while in Wien, I whiled away many hours in cafes, and I thought I'd share an odd experience I had at the Julius Meinl Cafe:

I ordered an Orangina without looking at the cafe menu, and the waitress came back with the beverage pictured above at the top of this post.  It turned out to be hot coffee, spiked with orange liqueur, and topped with a *lot* of whipped cream.  (And all for the bargain price of 7.50 euros - how nice).

At another time of year (oh, I don't know - say, December?), the Cafe's version of an orangina would be hugely appealing.  But on a warm summer afternoon, I was hoping for a bottle of the "real" (and more famous?) Orangina, like so:

So, Vienna visitors be warned:  for citrus refreshment, you'll probably have to ask for Orangina by some other name.   Not sure what that would be, exactly.

Well, at least the Brits got to see it on television. This commercial wouldn't have made it passed the FCC screening room here in the U.S. I think the animation is good, but there obviously is a lot of sexual imagery throughout. you may have to watch it again, it was after seeing it twice on tv last night that i realised i was not on crack and that it is a real advert for orangina. which i am going to raise a few points against. just to start with, who the fuck is cross-breeding animals and humans! thats gotta stop man, i can barely handle cats playing piano but thats just plain wrong. also whose fucking idea was it to think right we have the mutant human/animal hybrids lets get them to be overtly sexual and ride giant bottles of orangina. that is never a good idea! unless they are going for the sexual predator & beastiality market then they have that well and truely niched! finally WHY RECREATE A SCENE FROM FLASHDANCE! it was shit film then and its still a shit film now no amount of orangina on the body of a weirdo animal thing can change that. plus orangina is horrible, right im done for now.

My second week of work experience past without incident, and as a thankyou present to everyone, I bought a card, three toblerones and a plastic ornamental garden duck, which seemed to be the highlight. So next time I or my parents go into Tanners, we must ask of the duck (maybe in the vain hope of a discount).

On the Wednesday of the second week of work experience, I came home to find a letter on the worktop, addressed to me. Well, I say me, but school, of all people, had spelt my name wrong on the address. The people who have my name on every register, record and piece of work that I've ever had anything to do with spelt my name with an s. Curses go to my parents (for giving the awkwardly spelt, Scottish name (God knows why, we have no Scottish connections)) and in some parts to America (who's stupid TV sitcom 'Frasier' has meant my name has been pronounced and spelt wrong by anyone new to me). Anyway, I opened up this letter, which I found asked me to go to a meeting on Monday about being senior prefect (i.e. Head Boy). After a pause, and a run around the (empty) house screaming, I decided to celebrate by eating some breadsticks (sod the Moët, which I'd been working with for the last week and a half anyway).

So, off I toddled to school on Monday, rather nervous and thinking up answers to all the possible questions I could think up in my head. I later found that the only contenders I had were Oli Longland, who I get on quite well with and... Tarquin! Yes yes, you might laugh at the name, but really, it's as prattish as he is. This is the same person who has in the past stabbed me (in the chest) with a pen, ripped my T-shirt (making it look like a boob-tube) and told Kim (South African) that she should F***k off back to her own country (causing Kim to cry) just because she told him to shut up. On top of this, his trousers are way to short, he has an annoying voice, he tries to act 'ard all the time and thinks of himself even more so because he does kick-boxing; also, there's hilarious videos on Bebo (social networking site) of him punching a punch bag, which are so obviously sped up. What a bastard, you might be thinking, and you'd be right. Socially, he is looked down upon by nearly everyone for these exact reasons. Anyway, I went to this meeting (I was the first out of three boys and four girls up for the jobs) that was being conducted by Miss. Youngs and Mr. Sherwin. This involved a variety of questions, including "What do you think the job would involve?", "Describe yourself in three words" etc. I thought the interview went okay, but not brilliant.

"Oli, Tarquin and Frazer, could you please go to the foyer at break-time". Two hours! That's how long I had to wait from getting that message from my tutor to finding out the result of my interview. So, after this agonising period of time, all seven of us met in the foyer and were then taken into Mr. Thompson's (the Head's) office. But rather than just telling us who had gotten what, he proceeded to waffle for another agonising five minutes. Just bloody get on with it and tell us! And he did, in a rather casual manner. So now you're reading the blog of the Corbet School's head boy (Y). The deputy head boy is Oli, meaning that Tarquin got diddly-squat! Ha!
So all that was left to do was receive the badge off the previous year's head boy in the 40 minute, end of year assembly, in which all of years 7, 8, 9 and 10 (about 600 pupils) are squashed into the hall. Great. But thankfully that went without incident.

In other news, my (French) Spanish teacher, Mrs. Chudleigh, is leaving, as her (English) husband has got a job in Devon and she too is going with him. I think this is a real shame, as she was really nice to our (small-ish) Spanish group, and even brought in Orangina and brioche (not very Spanish) on our last lesson. Despite this, the rest of the school says that she is a total cow in other lessons, and gives out after-schools rather un-necessarily. But anyway, she was nice to us, so I don't really care.

Well I'm off to Yorkshire tomorrow morning with Kim, Georgi and her parents until Thursday, so if anyone is stalking me, please follow closely (I wouldn't want you to miss me).

Aunt pollie and I make great couple. We love to walk and cruise around aimlessly. We enjoy Jazz music in air conditioned room, like to chill and drink wines but can never manage to finish 1/10th a bottle, together.

Aunt pollie's on holiday, we decided to go see some nature and perhaps a picnic, packed some snacks and a bottle of wine. We rode in my super low Exige on Ting Kok Road, famous for its long stretch of windy corners, made a few stops, hiked down the creek, surprised to find a beautiful waterfall. Dai Mei Duk has been my favourite outdoor spot in HongKong since I was a kid, used to come here every summer with school friends. We sat at the dock and started drinking. The breeze was cool probably the only fresh unpolluted air you smell in hongkong. Just few sips of wine we blushed like monkey butts. We suck. 

Just curious how many of you check on my mileage, another week of failing to meet 10km/day, mind power is weak. Let's try Carla Bruni's Afternoon
