It's basically a huge charity show. Then, yesterday, on Jay Leno, an eccentric comedian decided to do his own version called the 'Little Give.' He goes around LA and does small favors for people. Check out the video of how it went down.

I first saw Nate Berkus about 4 years ago on Oprah. This particular show was focused on the terrible aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. Like the rest of the world, I was overwhelmed by the devastation caused to many different countries and thousands of people. I grew up on an island so it was hard for me to watch the news reports.

Oprah started to talk to an attractive man seated next to her, who she introduced as her interior designer, Nate. He and his long time companion, Fernando Bengoechea, were swept away from their rented cottage located on a famous surfing beach close to Arugam Bay near Sri Lanka. Berkus survived. His beloved Fernando did not.

I was emotionally affected by Nate's recounting of his loss. Here was this gay man who had just had the love of his life taken away from him. I had almost lost my Gary around the same time period. It was not to a monstrous ocean wave but to something just as horrifying- cancer. Gary survived.

I have watched Nate's career grow over the years, especially within the Oprah organization. He has his own radio show on Sirius radio. His world renown interior design business Nate Berkus and Associates is one of the most innovative and respected firms of its kind in the nation.

Part of their philosophy:

"...It is imperative to Nate Berkus Associates that their clients identify with their environment and as a result, become comfortable in their finished project. This principal philosophy of understanding leading to contentment is what sets Nate Berkus Associates apart." ( Firm Overview, www.nateberkus.com).

He has also been featured regularly on her show and in her magazine.

Throughout the time period following the tsunami, I have seen Nate embrace life, show charity and become a real strength to those around him. There is no bitterness in his voice. There are no fists raised in anger towards the heavens. There is no wallowing in self pity.

Nate has been able to move on and make life better. I sense a spirit of purpose in Berkus.

He has been selected again as one of the Top 50 Most Powerful and Influential Gay People in the USA by Out.Com. He is a great example for us all - gay and straight.

The Pennsylvania Newspaper Association is doing something so cool that I hope it expands beyond its borders to include all community newspapers. Based on the Pay it Forward movie and Oprah's Big Give, PNA has invited all its members to donate, or get advertisers to donate (sponsor) the funding of projects to help the poor and those in dire distress in their local communities. While the immediate payback to the papers is not monetization, it is goodwill, and increased traffic as the Pay it Forward program runs its course.

There are many many ways to monetize this, including advertising by organizations that help the poor, by job boards, by discount and consignment shops, and even car dealers who offer to extend credit to those who wouldn't find it elsewhere. You could introduce mobile to your newspaper products but giving readers the option to vote or submit an idea or candidate recipient via their cell phone or PDA. Read this article in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, about its participation. What the Sun-Gazette has done is create the opportunity for great user participation, and thus traffic, by asking for ideas on how to use the money.

For more info read the details here. You could do this too.

This is a list of my least favorite TV shoes that have been recently canceled! Yeah!!

1. The Pussy Cat Dolls Girlicious!

They suck sooooo bad!!!! Dancing whores!! Skankolicious!

2. Cashmere Mafia

This half-baked, B version of Sex and the City was too stuffy and angry. Rich bitches are so 1994!

3. Notes from the Underbelly

That blonde girl, that eats all the rice cake snakes is so fucking annoying as well as the one with the blue sweater on! Everything else about this show was just blah to the extreme.

4. Girlfriends

I feel left out, I'm not urban enough. Wait, their not either?

5. October Road

She's about as interesting as sugar-free gum. All I see is That 70' Show gone serious.

6. Oprah's Big Shit, I mean Give.

Okay Oprah, we get it your super rich?? Nate Butt-kiss grow a set of nuts and decorate them for us, would you? The other saps made the room smell like cheese.

7. Kid Nation

Kid Tv is boring even if they are working. They should have mixed them up with parolees! I feel for that goat :(

8. Beauty and the Geek

Everyone knows that show was total bullshit. Ashton Kucher produced it! Just another version of Punked!

9. Men in Trees

I kinda liked this show a little. Anne Heche is cool, I've liked her ever since you went nuts running around that one neighborhood in California naked. Plus I like Alaska, it's cold there. Too bad the show was rather sleepy.

10. Crowned

I love Carson but that Mokler bitch is a pig. Every girl and mom was a stupid set of self absobed salt and pepper shakers. The "challenges" weren't challenging enough and the de-sashing ceremony was the best part!! Too bad no one got stabbed instead of "de-sashed"!!!!

HEATLIST COUNTDOWN #19- According to Jawn Murray of AOL Black Voices, Oprah Winfrey will not renew and bring bag her reality tv show, "Oprah's Big Give." In a recent New York paper article, a woman was reported to have given Oprah the idea for the show and threatened to sue, but the charges were dismissed. Could this be the reason for Oprah's departure from one of the most successful humanitarian tv shows in history. It looks like album sales are down at an all time low and real music with real instrumentation is on the rise and what music listeners are craving. Dennis Bell may very well be able to save the state of music before music listeners turn in heading to the music store for only downloading albums they want to hear.
In the not too distant future, if it hasn’t already transpired, mega-corporations might replace nations as the world’s most powerful political entities. This is the state of affairs contemplated by War, Inc., a sophisticated satire directed by Joshua Seftel (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy).

The story reads like a logical extension of what some cynics say we have unfolding in Iraq, as it revolves around the efforts of a former U.S. Vice-President (Dan Aykroyd) to monopolize the economy of a mythical war-torn country, Turaqistan, on behalf of Tamerlane, an American company to which he has close ties. This scenario amounts to a thinly-veiled allusion to Dick Cheney’s ostensibly engineering lucrative no-bid contracts in Iraq on behalf of Halliburton and its subsidiaries.

The fun starts soon after the ex-VP hires a mercenary, Brand Hauser (John Cusack), to kill Omar Sharif (Lyubomir Neikov), no, not the actor, but a Middle East oil minister representing Tamerlane’s primary competitor. Hauser is a burnt out hit man in need of a break, having just come from an assignment where he had to waste a bunch of beer-swilling Germans in a bar.

Upon arriving in Turaqistan, he is ushered into Emerald City, a heavily-fortified sanctuary suspiciously similar to the Green Zone. There, he is given a position with Tamerlane and a secretary (Joan Cusack) to provide a cover for his real reason for his being in the region. While awaiting an opportunity to eliminate Omar, he divides his time between wooing a leftist American journalist (Marisa Tomei) and planning the wedding of Central Asia’s current singing sensation, Yonica Babyyeah (Hilary Duff).

Like a campy cross of Dr. Strangelove and Wag the Dog, this celluloid anti-war screed serves up a mesmerizing mélange of action, romance, slapstick, intrigue, gore, sentimentality, sensuality and sleight of hand when not offering pointed insights about the dire prospects for a corporatized planet. Fortunately, front man John Cusack’s face has finally matured to the point that it no longer has that boyish look about it. His ever-underrated sister, Joan, turns in one of her trademark nonpareil performances, and not to be outdone are either Marisa Tomei or the barely-recognizable Hilary Duff in her capacity as a musical Muslim moll.

As humorous as it is thought-provoking, War, Inc. is chock full of memorable moments, perhaps the best being the hand-to-hand showdown in the belly of a garbage truck between our reluctant hero and a worthy adversary (Ben Kingsley). Ever seen a villain trash compacted into submission?

A preposterous, impossible to pigeonhole spoof which somehow satisfactorily adds up to more than the sum of its seemingly incompatible parts.

HEATLIST COUNTDOWN #6- Congratulations to Beyonce' and Jay Z who are officially married, but the media coverage has been dismal when a black relationship in matrimony among two high-profiled celebrities should be grand. It shows that media only wants to mock black relationships. All articles about the couple have been disgraceful. I don't blame this couple for keeping their ceremony private. It's disrespectful. Both have made the media so much money and attention to their publications. The least media could do is herald Jay and Beyonce' as modern day Kings and Queens on a throne. Both kept their genre of music at the top and if it wasn't for these two love birds, a lot of folks may not have discovered some other artists now at the top!
