Oprah's latest metaphysical mission is the new book by best-selling author Ekchardt Tolle - A New Earth.  She started a web teaching series based on the book that has many professed Christians up in arms as she made a comment that there is more than one way to get to God.

Let me interrupt my rant to say that I believe in God and I firmly believe in John 3:16.  My sister brought this news to my attention when she called and told me she had read something on the internet and urged me to check it out.   If you click on the YouTube video, the first thing that comes out of Oprah's mouth in the discussion is:  "There's more than one way to live your life!"  She goes on to say that the path taken by one may be different than the other.  

In any event, the conversation leads to Jesus and Oprah says, "What about Jesus?"   That's where the drama comes in.  I have the book, " A New Earth."   I also have the book, "The Power of Now."  The reason I bought the book A New Earth is because I gained so much from reading The Power of Now.  I believe the title is throwing many people off.  "A New Earth - Awakening to Your Life's Purpose"  is about EGO and how the ego gets in the way of living a peaceful and meaningful life.  It has nothing to do with actually changing the earth.  I wish people would research more before spouting off their opinions.

And GOD knows we all have alot of stuff!  These books have actually pulled me closer to God, not further away.  As with anything you read - you won't take everything the author says to heart.  It's their opinion based on their own individual expeiences.  We have Choices in life!  It's called "Free Will."  What works for me may not work for you, but at the end of the day, I can't go to HEAVEN for anyone except myself.  Oprah Winfrey's salvation is on her.  If what she's doing is so wrong, as a professed Christian you should pray for her, not condemn her.  Oprah's decision to do Change Your Life television was wonderful, but Oprah Winfrey is not an envangelist - Oprah Winfrey is a talk show host with a powerful voice.  If you are a true child of God, nothing Oprah Winfrey says or any book she might recommend can change that.  As for her leading the masses astray - won't God judge her for that?  I really believe her INTENTION is for good.

Oprah Winfrey, a propósito do filme "The Great Debaters"

Yesterday, I had the pleasant treat of attending the musical version of The Color Purple here in Philadelphia at The Academy of Music on South Broad Street.  The cast was PHENOMENAL and the adaptation was pretty spot on with the book.  Some familiar scenes remain, others have been expanded on in a way that things you may not have realized during the movie are fully revealed.

As more celebrities jump on the detox bandwagon, it's also catching on with the general public. But some medical experts say these body-cleansing diets are not only unnecessary, they can also be dangerous. Dr. David Robbins, at Beth Israel Medical Center, said that detox diets do not work, in fact they can cause more harm than good.

"The concept that you need to detox your body like you would take your car for an oil change is entirely off base," The New York Daily New quoted him, as saying. Here's how some celeb-tested cleanses measure up.

1. Kathy Frenton's 21-Day Colon Cleanse Celebrity: Oprah Winfrey

The spiritual plan preaches 'conscious eating' by cutting all animal products, gluten, caffeine, sugar and alcohol for up to 21 days. "Dietary excess and gluttony is not good for you, sure, but to start excluding major food groups is foolish," Robbins said.

2. Dr. Joshi's holistic detox Celebrity: Gwyneth Paltrow

This plan promises transformation in 21 days by avoiding acidic, toxic and refined foods so the body's pH balance becomes alkaline. "It's all fantasy at best and dangerous at its worst," Robbins said.

3. Martha's Vineyard Detox Diet Celebrity: Robin Quivers

The radio co-host followed Roni DeLuz's '21 Pounds in 21 Days.' The fast sheds a pound a day by subsisting on live juices, enzymes - and regular colonics. Robbins said that the body is expert at colonic cleansing itself. "We know from thousands of colonoscopies, in which we peer into the lining of the colon, that there's no toxic residue," he said.

4. Master Colon Cleanser Celebrity: Beyonce Knowles

The pop star slimmed down drastically to play skinny 'Dreamgirls' singer Deena Jones by living on water mixed with lemon, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. "You don't have to starve yourself," Robbins said. He sees liquid-diet patients come in with electrolyte imbalances 'and profound diarrhea and nausea.'

This week we have heard about how other planets prepare for rebalancing.  We discussed how evolved planets plan for and adjust to rebalancing.  We touched on how evolving planets are assisted during rebalancing.

Our next two posts will explain how we can learn to adjust to the planetary rebalancing that will be taking place here.

What Do We Do?

As we have seen in our last few posts there are many moving pieces involved in a planetary rebalancing.  We have looked at scenarios where the population of the planet is very small compared to ours, the people are aware of the rebalancing, and they willingly work with the situations as they occur.  That seems like a pretty tall order for this planet to achieve at this time.  What is the best way for Crystal, Indigo, and Star Children to start preparing for the rebalancing?

As we have worked with our own personal advancement during the past thirty years we have struggled to find the best way to explain what is going on.  We have also searched for the best medium.  This may not be the best way to explain things, and it may not be the best medium, but now it is more important to get started than continue to “try” to find the best time and place.

Stay in the Moment

It may seem trite.  It may sound simplistic.  You may see more important things that need to be done.  You may feel that there must be better ways to do this job.  However, we have yet to find a better first step.

An earlier blog post talked about staying in the moment.  We still cannot stress strongly or frequently enough the importance of staying in the moment.  This is still the most important thing that we can do to cope with the coming disruptions.

As inhabitants of this planet our primary objective needs to be to stay in the now.  Being present, stay in the moment, be here now; however you phrase the concept it is the same thing.  This idea has been the primary focus of many spiritual and religious disciplines for many centuries.

When we are in the moment our fears have no sway over us.  That will be an important asset as the major disruptions become frequent.  Also, when we are in the moment our actions are no longer fear based.  By acting out of confidence rather than fear we will be effective, not counterproductive.

When we are in the moment we will see the rebalancing for what it is – a part of a natural cycle that this planet needs to complete.  When we are not in the moment we will feel the need to fight the rebalancing.  The natural forces that will sweep across this planet will be far greater than we can imagine.  If we are not in the moment we will become fearful and lose control of ourselves.  Then we will not be able to help anyone, especially ourselves.

Once again – stay in the moment.  If you do nothing more in preparation for the rebalancing than learn to stay in the moment then you will be far more prepared than almost everyone else on the planet.

As mentioned elsewhere on this blog, the best instruction on how to stay in the moment that we have recently seen has come from Eckhart Tolle.  His book “A New Earth” has helped many people.  Oprah Winfrey did a series of 10 videos that were 90 minutes in length.  You can find these videos at Oprah’s Book Club.  You will need to register with the site to view the videos.  These are excellent learning tools because they involve viewers calling in and discussing questions at length with Oprah and Eckhart.  We highly recommend this series of videos as the best way to learn to stay in the moment that we have seen in a long time.

As is becoming our Friday custom, tomorrow we will take a moment to thank those around us.  It is so easy to get caught up in the perceived importance of everything that we do not take the time to express our thanks.  We will attempt to remember to do that each Friday and whenever else we find it appropriate.

We will also write a few paragraphs about the Independence Day celebration in the United States.  Those on whose shoulders we are standing were adamant about freedom and have inspired countless individuals on this planet in the last 230 years.

Finally, we will get back to the main purpose of the blog.  We will see how the concept of acceptance is crucial to dealing with disruptions that are coming our way.

For another take on Obama, you can read the new guest post, "The leader and the moment," by Harvard Business School professor Nancy Koehn. She wrote an insightful piece about Obama that cleverly avoids even mentioning the Presidential candidate's name.

I've come to know Nancy (who has neither worked for nor given money to the Obama campaign, by the way) through our Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit and through her writing. Whether she's assessing billion-dollar brands or entrepreneurial icons such as Oprah Winfrey or breakout Presidential candidates, she understands how power operates.

Il film spiega come Barry (Jerry Seinfeld), ape indipendente che vuole far altro nella vita oltre a lavorare in eterno nel campo del miele, un giorno si unisca ai "fuchi fichi" in volo al Central Park per impollinare fiori. Qui scopre un mondo solo immaginato e gli uomini. E proprio la sua voglia di parlare rende noto all'uomo (ad una donna in particolare - Vanessa) il diritto delle api di decidere sul destino del proprio prodotto (miele) e del fatto che le api sappiano parlare.
Ci sono battute divertenti e scene mozzafiato, il 3D al solito (ormai) è a livelli magnifici ma, purtroppo, la storia è esile. Per quanto inverosimile sia ovviamente tutto il discorso delle api ed il loro mondo a copia di quello umano, è sul semplicistico svolgersi degli eventi (soprattutto l'accettazione da parte dell'uomo di un'intera comunità di insetti parlanti in quattro e quattr'otto) che il film non regge.
Probabilmene la verve del protagonista nell'edizione originale fà la differenza ma ciò non basta a rendere la pellicola un must nel suo genere. Certo ci sono gag esilaranti e sketches divertenti (quella di Larry King, ad esempio) ma insufficienti a reggere il gioco per tutto il tempo (ed infatti la parte finale è piuttosto noiosa seppur sbrigativa). Peccato...

Dopo "Z la formica" un altro comico di New York ci ha provato con il mondo degli insetti ma, Woody Allen era un'altra cosa davvero.

If you watch the video, the black women in this sketch meet every stereotype that exists: they are loud, rude, sassy, almost cartoon caricatures of what flesh-and-blood real life black women look like but then, this doesn't stop MadTv. They take it a step further and make the women into overweight and mean caricatures. Despite the advances of celebrated plus-size celebrities like Queen Latifah and Raven Simone, the image of the black woman as a Mammy, a caricature that defines the role of a black woman as a desexualized, maternal figure whose wide grin, big hips and general uncouthness guarantees her role as a buffoon.

The underlying assumption is that she is handicapped because of her size and not because due to her intellect, however, other episodes of MadTv have clearly shown that is their objective. In this video, the actress who plays Ashlee Simpson is portrayed as a naive, helpless white girl (another gender stereotype!) who must be rescued by the all-knowing black Mammy whose intellect does not include worldview concerns such as the Darfur conflict or the rising prices of oil but instead is reduced to sitting in front of the television. The women in the sketch comedy scene spend their days debating the latest celebrity gossip and eating gigantic amounts of food, which of course, plays into the stereotype that fat women will eat anything and everything that they can get their hands on, without a care of the "consequences."

The actress playing Ashlee Simpson than receives a "talking-to" in the form of a reality check where the two fat black caricatures than release their true selves. They berate her, they insult her but then she retaliates by reiterating her own Fantasy of Staying Thin (where a thin woman insults a fat woman in the hopes that she will be jealous of the other women's thinness and revel in what she does not have: a thin body ) by telling the women that they if acted more like Mammy, then she might be inclined to believe what they say.

In the end, this does nothing more than make caricatures of all three women but particularly the two black women, as they have numerous episodes on MadTv where they continue to berate guests and pig out on food that most normal fat women would be repulsed by. The problem with this that is there's no balance between positive and negative roles of black women on MadTv. Women in general, particularly black women, fat white women and gay white women have all been brutalized by this show. The question then becomes why? Well, for one, one of the stars is Debra Wilson, an actress known for playing Oprah Winfrey in the dreaded "fat suit," which is where a thin movie star dresses up in a fat suit in order to "play a fat actress." The reason for this is that it's too much to ask Hollywood to ask a fat woman to play herself, not dressed up in matronly clothes and not playing the emotional victim either. Second, because the United States does not value or appreciate diversity in beauty. Our country has a long way to go in presenting more positive images of women, irregardless of their color, size or shape.

Last, if people continue to laugh at "comedy" such as this, it not only does a disservice to black women and fat women but to women in particular. Remember, a true comedian does not need to put another human being down in order to make the audience laugh. We at F.A.I.T.H. believe that the best response or best comeback to shows like MadTv is to not watch them and to encourage everyone else to do the same.

Yang gembira & berduka : sepakbola adalah drama & budaya massa

PIALA Eropa dan berbagai kejuaraan akbar seperti Liga Champion dan Piala Dunia adalah “magnit” paling kuat di dunia ini. Dan sebagaimana magnit yang memiliki daya tarik besar, dia tidak perlu diwarnai atau dihiasi dengan ornamen apapun. Taruh saja apa adanya, “magnit” itu pasti akan menarik dengan kuat.

Fakta ini seharusnya diketahui dan dicamkan oleh para pengelola stasiun televisi dan presenter di Indonesia. Ini penting sekali, supaya mereka segera berhenti “mewarnai” dan “menghiasi” kejuaraan akbar seperti Piala Eropa dengan ulah mereka yang terlihat dungu, menggelikan, dan norak!

Maaf, aku tidak bermaksud kasar atau melecehkan mereka. Tapi, jujur saja, aku sudah benar-benar muak melihat tingkah mereka. Rasa sebal itu memuncak ketika melihat seorang “bintang tamu” yang kebanci-bancian menjelang tayangan live Jerman vs Turki. Kasihan betul orang itu, hanya bisa melawak, dan ngakak sendiri, ketika ditanya mengenai pengalamannya sebagai penggemar sepakbola.

Orang yang kebanci-bancian seperti itu bisa jadi “selebritis” dan ikut meraup rejeki dari bisnis hiburan yang sama sekali tak menghibur itu; adalah karena masyarakat penonton televisi dianggap lebih menyukai bebodoran daripada suguhan acara yang bermutu dan serius. Akibatnya, semua acara live di televisi, termasuk talk show yang membahas masalah-masalah serius, selalu diarahkan menjadi lucu-lucuan, seolah-olah menghibur, dan diheboh-hebohkan.

Kalau kita perhatikan acara talk show paling digemari di seluruh dunia, yang diasuh Oprah Winprey, suasananya serius, wajar dan kapabel. Kalaupun pemirsa merasa terhibur, itu didapat dari testimoni-testimoni peserta talk show yang unik, terkadang lucu, dan ada juga yang mengharu-biru. Begitu pula acara American Idol, sangat serius, tapi tetap terasa menghibur. Sebaliknya, kelucuan artifisial dan keharuan yang dibuat-buat dalam acara Indonesia Idol, malah membuat kita enek.

KEMBALI soal siaran langsung Piala Eropa di TV kita, seandainya acara live disajikan apa adanya, itu sudah cukup buat pemirsa. Kalau mau ditambah, supaya menontonnya lebih nikmat, yang paling pas adalah menayangkan lebih awal, yaitu suasana tim di ruang ganti beberapa menit menjelang pertandingan. Bisa juga ditayangkan aktivitas penonton di luar stadion, termasuk arus penonton memasuki stadion.

Kalau mau tetap pakai komentator, boleh-boleh saja, tapi pilih dong yang cerdas dan menguasai informasi perkembangan sepakbola. Komentator kita sangat membosankan, wawasannya serba tanggung, dan tidak punya kemampuan melihat sepakbola sebagai bagian dari budaya massa.

Coba suruh komentator kita mengulas strong point dan weak point Cristiano Ronaldo, misalnya, tak mungkin bisa mereka. Komentator kita suka sekali bermain dengan data-data statistik; dan kemudian memprediksi pertandingan berdasarkan sejarah pertemuan tim. Itu kan bodoh banget. Pertandingan sepakbola adalah sekarang dan di sini.

Seharusnya yang dijadikan dasar memprediksi pertandingan adalah kondisi terkini para pemain dan tim; apakah ada yang cedera, apakah terjadi konflik antarpemain, atau pemain dengan pelatih; atau bisa juga ada pemain yang mulai kehilangan komitmen pada tim seperti Ronaldinho di Barcelona.Kemudian buatlah komparasi berdasarkan kelebihan serta kekurangan tiap pemain dan tim.

Intinya : hasil pertandingan sepakbola tidak ada hubungannya dengan sejarah; kecuali ada hal-hal khusus misalnya Inggris selalu kesulitan menghadapi tim bergaya latin. Tapi itu pun sebenarnya bukan faktor sejarah; namun lantaran gaya bermain latin yang flair-flair, sulit direbut bolanya, dan pandai memainkan tempo; membuat rusak irama permainan Inggris yang suka serba kencang.

SELAIN ITU, para komentator kita suka sekali memamerkan pengetahuannya yang tanggung mengenai pola dan skema permainan. Kalau mereka ngomong pola 4-4-2, pemirsa akan mendapat kesan yang keliru, seakan-akan pola itu bersifat kaku. Padahal itu hanya pola standar posisi pemain, yang pasti akan berubah sesuai perkembangan pertandingan.

Umpamanya pola 4-4-2 yang dianut tim Spanyol di Piala Eropa ini, sebenarnya lebih tepat disebut 3-5-2. Ketika menghadapi tim tangguh seperti Italia, pola tim Spanyol memang mirip 4-4-2 sesuai buku; sebaliknya Italia cenderung bermain dengan pola defensif 4-5-1.

Tapi pada pertandingan melawan Rusia di semifinal, tim Matador menerapkan tiga pola. Di awal babak pertama sampai menit ke-30, Spanyol tampil dengan pola 4-4-2. Tapi menjelang akhir babak pertama berubah menjadi 3-5-2. Dan pada babak kedua, polanya berubah menjadi 3-6-1, yang terbukti efektif melumpuhkan serangan Rusia; dan sebaliknya mempertajam serangan Spanyol karena enam pemain gelandangnya rata-rata jago mencetak gol.

Itu sekadar membuktikan saja bahwa “pengetahuan” sepakbola sebenarnya sangat memikat dan perlu.

Dari uraian itu dapat disimpulkan dua hal. Pertama, kunci kemenangan Spanyol atas Rusia adalah keunggulan di lapangan tengah karena punya pemain-pemain gelandang yang hebat, dan strategi jitu pelatih Aragones yang menumpuk 5 sampai 6 gelandang. Kedua, gelandang Rusia, Ashravin, yang disanjung selangit setelah penampilan cemerlang saat mengalahkan Belanda, ternyata tak mampu berkreasi dan mati kutu menghadapi gelandang-gelandang hebat dari Spanyol, yaitu Da Silva, Sena, Xavi, Capdevilla, dan Iniesta.

Nah, akhirnya kita harus menanyakan ini : apakah mentang-mentang acara live itu gratis, sehingga pemirsa harus terima saja “bumbu-bumbu” olahan RCTI yang membuat kenikmatan Piala Eropa jadi berkurang ?

Kalau memang begitu, apa boleh buat, para pecandu bola pasti akan “menghukum” ulah stasiun TV itu. Caranya gampang, pemirsa hanya menonton tayangan pertandingan. Sorry buat para sponsor, dan komentator.

In a dissent, Justice Calista Flockhart said the decision “threatens to throw into doubt the constitutionality of ray gun laws throughout the United States,” and said countless Americans could end up being obliterated in ray gun violence.

Flockhart's remarks marked the first dissenting opinion she has written since former President Oprah Winfrey appointed the former actress to the high court in 2023. Flockhart said her role on the 1990s television series Ally McBeal inspired her to pursue her law degree. 

Flockhart was joined in her dissent by Justices John Edwards, Lance Ito and Marcia Clark.

At least 16 states have passed laws banning possession of ray guns since the weapons entered the market in 2021.   Opponents of such laws say they deny the individual’s right to protect themselves from burglars, gangs and muggers.  But supporters of the laws say they actually are used mainly on supervisors in the workplace – typically in cases where an employee wants his or her boss to disappear.

It is a great family movie- we all watched it together the following night after I had watched it- and it has a a really great message and that is simply: Never take for granted the ones you love, and let them know how you feel about them.

As I am getting ready to leave for college in August, I've been thinking about how much I enjoy spending time with my family and how much I'll miss the close contact I have with them now.
