Lisa McPherson, A Beautiful Woman Whose Life Was Destroyed By Scientology.
BACKGROUND:
Lisa McPherso

[caption id="attachment_127" align="alignright" width="246" caption="Lisa McPherson, A Beautiful Woman Whose Life Was Destroyed By Scientology."][/caption]

BACKGROUND:

Lisa McPherson was born on February 10th, 1959 and lived a normal life in Dallas, Texas. When she was 18, she became a Scientologist, and in 1994, she moved to Clearwater, Florida with her employer, AMC Publishing, which was operated mostly by Scientologists. In June 1995 she was place in what is called an Introspectoin Rundown for percieved mental instability. An Introspection Rundown is where you are placed in isolation until you are "out of [your] psychosis". She completed the Rundown, and became Clear in September of that year [The state of Clear is where you are not influenced by past traumas].

EVENTS PRECEDING HER DEATH:

On November 18th, 1995, Lisa was involved in a minor car accident. Paramedics initially left her alone because she had suffered no injuries, but she began to remove her clothes, so the paramedics took her to the hospital. Lisa said she had taken off her clothes in an effort to "recieve counseling". Hospital staff wanted to keep her overnight for counseling, but after intervention by Scientologists, she refused psychiatric care and checked herself out of the hospital, even though she was clearly mentally ill. She was brought to the Fort Harrison hotel, a building owned by the Church of Scientology for "rest and relaxation", though sworn statements reveal she was taken there for another Introspection Rundown. Mark McGarry, an attorney working for the State Attorney, said that Lisa's stay was an "isolation watch".

LISA MCPHERSON'S DEATH:

Lisa was kept in a cabana and kept a 24-hour watch on her. Detailed logs were kept on her day-to-day care. These "logs" narrate the last 17 days of her life: She was voilent and incoherent, her nails were cut so she couldn't scratch herself or staff, and she bruised her feet and fists while hitting the wall. She had trouble sleeping and was given a supplement to help. She also developed sores on her face that "looked like measles or chicken pox". On many occasions she refused food and water. Staff attempted to force feed her, but she spat the food out. Any Scientologists that questioned how she was handled were told to "butt out". Scientologist doctor David Minkoff prescribed Valium and a sleep aid without seeing her. Her caretakers asked him to prescribe an antibiotic, but he refused and said that he needed to see her at his hospital in order to prescribe anything. The caretakers refused, saying that she could be subjected to psychiatric care while in the hospital [Scientologists are opposed to psychiatry]. En route to the hospital, Lisa experienced labored breathing. The Scientologists passed 4 hospitals before arriving at Minkoff's hospital. She arrived without vital signs. They tried to resuscitate her with CPR, but she was declared dead 20 minutes after arrival.

CORONER'S REPORT:

Lisa's autopsy was started on December 5th, 1995 by assistant medical examiner Robert Davis, and was completed by supervisor medical examiner Joan Wood. The report said that Lisa died of a Thrombo-embolism on the left pulmonary artery caused by "bed rest and severe dehydration". The manner of death was "undetermined". The report also said there were multiple bruises, an abrasion on the nose, and insect/animal bites on her right arm. On January 21st, 1997, Wood went public on the TV show Inside Edition, and stated that Lisa had deteriorated slowly, going without fluids for 5-10 days and was underweight. She lost 20-40 pounds before her death.

AFTERMATH:

The Church of Scientology was indicted on 2 felony charge "abuse and/or neglect of a disabled adult" and "practicing medicine without a license". These charges were dropped later. A civil suit brought by her family against the Church was settled on May 24th, 2004.

"Scientology is evil; its techniques are evil; its practice is a serious threat to the community, medically, morally, and socially; and its adherents are sadly deluded and often mentally ill... --Justice Anderson, Supreme Court of Victoria, Australia

"Scientology is both immoral and socially obnoxious...It is corrupt sinister and dangerous. It is corrupt because it is based on lies and deceit and has its real objective money and power for Mr. Hubbard... It is dangerous because it is out to capture people and to indoctrinate and brainwash them so they become the unquestioning captives and tools of the cult, withdrawn from ordinary thought, living, and relationships with others."

"[The court record is] replete with evidence [that Scientology] is nothing in reality but a vast enterprise to extract the maximum amount of money from its adepts by pseudo scientific theories... and to exercise a kind of blackmail against persons who do not wish to continue with their sect....
Did you know the Church of Scientology has it’s own intelligence agency?
OVERVIEW:
The Office

Did you know the Church of Scientology has it's own intelligence agency?

OVERVIEW:

The Office of Special Affairs [formerly the Guardian's Office] is responsible for legal affairs, pursuing investigations, and public relations. It was established in 1966, with the initial interest of protecting the interests of Scientology, monitoring Scientologists inside the Church, and gathering information on perceived enemies of the Church. The organization acting as an intelligence bureau, and planted agents in key positions in government agencies to obtain confidential material about the Church as part of Operation Snow White. The Guardian's Office was disbanded in 1983 and most of its duties were relegated to the newly created Office of Special Affairs. Mike Rinder, former head of the OSA, left the Church for reasons unknown.

OSA OPERATIONS:

In a court case in 1993, former OSA operative Garry Scarff "was directed, one, to go to Chicago, Illinois and to murder Cynthia Kisser, Cynthia Kisser being the Executive Director of the Cult Awareness Network, by a staged car accident." The murder never took place because Scarff "could not bring [himself] to harm or kill anybody."

Tory Christman, a former volunteer for OSA has stated that the organization hired private investigators, fabricated criminal charges and harassed their targets, including at their place of employment, as well as their family members.

Former OSA operative Mike McClaughry revealed that other OSA operatives attempted to put LSD on the toothbrush of a psychiatrist in San Francisco as part of a Fair Game operation. The psychiatrist was supposed to go on a "drug trip" while giving his speech. It turns out that the OSA operatives put the LSD in both the psychiatrist's toothpaste and his PREGNANT WIFE's toothpaste.

OSA METHODS:

The OSA uses many Fair Game tactics against the Church's many critics, including picketing homes, forged bomb threats, lawsuits, and false criminal charges. The OSA also constantly monitors/follows/stalks the Church's critics in order to make the critic too paranoid to continue. Many Church critics and former Scientologists report surveillance vans outside their homes all day and night.

Did you know that the Church of Scientology is responsible for the largest infiltration of United St

Did you know that the Church of Scientology is responsible for the largest infiltration of United States government in history?

THE OPERATION:

In the 1970s L. Ron Hubbard wrote up a program codenamed Operation Snow White as an attempt to reduce or eliminate unfavorable reports on Scientology, the Church of Scientology, and Hubbard himself. Under this program, over 5,000 covert Scientologist agents committed crimes like infiltration, wiretapping, and theft of government documents in 136 government agencies, consulates, and foreign embassies in over 30 countries. Other planned elements of the operation included petitioning governments and the UN to charge government critics of the Church of Scientology with genocide.

GOVERNMENT DISCOVERY OF THE OPERATION:

The FBI raided Scientology offices in 1977 when they discovered Operation Snow White and found documentation of the Church of Scientology's illegal operations against the US government, along with other illegal activities carried out by the Church against perceived enemies of Scientology, including Operation Freakout and a conspiracy to frame Gabe Cazares, the mayor of Clearwater, Florida, on false hit-and-run charges. Documents also showed that Sir John Foster and Lord Balniel, creators of the UK's government inquiry into the Church, were also targets, along with the National Association for Mental Health and the World Federation for Mental Health.

ARRESTS FOR OPERATION SNOW WHITE:

Several people were convicted for Operation Snow White. Mary Sue Hubbard [L. Ron Hubbard's wife], Cindy Raymond, Gerald Bennett Wolfe, Henning Heldt, Duke Snider, Gregory Willardson, Richard Weigand, Mitchell Herman, Sharon Thomas, Jane Kember, and Mo Budlong, all high-ranking Scientologists, were convicted and sent to prison for five years. Kendrick Moxon was listed as an "unindicted co-conspirator" after giving false handwriting samples to the FBI. L. Ron Hubbard was also listed as an unindicted co-conspirator.

Operation Freakout was a noteworthy case of Fair Game against a critic of the Church, Paulette Coope

Operation Freakout was a noteworthy case of Fair Game against a critic of the Church, Paulette Cooper. This is a post about the escalating harassment against Mrs. Cooper, eventually leading to a full-scale operation against her.

EVENTS PRECEDING OPERATION FREAKOUT:

Paulette Cooper was a freelance journalist who wrote an article about the Church in the magazine Queen [now Harper's Bazaar]. She later upgraded that article into a full-length book, The Scandal of Scientology: A Chilling Examination of the Nature, Beliefs, and Practices of the "Now Religion". The Church sued Cooper for $300,000 in December 1971.

ESCALATING HARASSMENT:

Church officials designated her as a high priority target and had a plan to use Fair Game tactics on her and "attack her as many ways as possible", along with "wide-scale exposure of PC's sex life" [PC being Paulette Cooper]. Cooper counter-sued for $15.4 million in damages for ongoing harassment. The Church stepped up the harassment, including making graffiti in her name, subscribing her to pornographic mailing lists, and receiving death threats. Her neighbors also received letters that she had an STD.

In December 1972, a woman "soliciting funds for United Farm Workers" stole a quantity of stationery from Cooper's home. A few days later, the New York Church "received" 2 anonymous bomb threats. The following May, Cooper was indicted for making bomb threats and arraigned for a Federal Grand Jury. The threats were written on her stationery and had her fingerprints on them. The trial was discontinued by the US Attorney's office, and it was not until 1977 that the FBI found out that the Church had forged the bomb threat.

[caption id="attachment_58" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="The second forged bomb threat against the Church."][/caption]

According to one source the Church itself importing Cooper's books into countries with stricter libel laws for the express purpose of suing her. She was sued in the US, the UK, and Australia.

OPERATION FREAKOUT:

In the spring of 1976, the Church decided to initate an operation with the aim "To get P.C. incarcerated in a mental institution or jail, or at least to hit her so hard that she drops her attacks." This operation was codenamed Operation Freakout. There were 6 different plans, in no particular order:

A woman was to imitate Paulette Cooper's voice and phone threats to Arab consulates in New York.

A threatening letter was to be mailed to an Arab consulate in New York in such a fashion that it would appear to have been done by Paulette Cooper.

A Scientologist was to impersonate Paulette Cooper at a laundrette and make death threats against the President and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. A second Scientologist was to inform the FBI of the threat

Two additional plans were added April 13, 1976:

Gather info from Paulette Cooper in order to execute the above 3 plans.

A Scientologist was to inform an Arab consulate in New York that Paulette Cooper was planning to bomb it.

A sixth plan was added later:

A rerun of the bomb threat plot, in which a threat against Henry Kissinger was to be mailed on paper with Cooper's fingerprints on them

AFTERMATH:

On July 8th, 1977, the FBI raided Scientology offices in Washington DC and Los Angeles and seized over 48,000 documents. The documents revealed "criminal campaigns of villification, burglaries and thefts ... against private and public individuals and organizations", as the US Government prosecutor put it.

In the end, no one was put to justice for the harassment of Paulette Cooper. Cooper stopped her legal action against the Church in 1985 after the Church gave her $400,000 in an out of court settlement.

In 1965, Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote what’s known as the “Fair Game”

In 1965, Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote what's known as the "Fair Game" policy on how to deal with people who were perceived as enemies of Scientology [An enemy of Scientology is also known as an SP, or a "Suppressive Person"]. These enemies are considered "Fair Game" for retaliation by Scientologists, and the Scientologist will not be punished by the Church for their treatment of an SP. Hubbard goes o to say "never defend" the Church, but "always attack", and that the goal of suing a person or organization is not to win, but to discredit and harass them.

The official statement by L. Ron Hubbard is:
"ENEMY - SP order. Fair Game. May be deprived of property or injured by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. may be tricked, sued or lied to, or DESTROYED."

THE ACTUAL DOCUMENT:

L. Ron Hubbard's Fair Game Policy

CANCELLATION OF THE TERM "FAIR GAME":

Later L. Ron Hubbard canceled the term "Fair Game" because it caused "bad public relations". The statement did not "cancel any policy on the treatment or handling of an SP".

THE FAIR GAME POLICY IN COURT CASES:

In 1981, during the case Jakob Anderson vs. The Church of Scientology of Denmark, an ex-Scientologist named Vibeke Dammon testified that the Church did in fact still practice Fair Game and did so to try and commit Anderson to a psychiatric hospital.

In 1980, Lawrence Wollershiem, an ex-Scientologist, alleged that he had been harassed and his business nearly destroyed as a result of the Fair Game policy. The Church claimed Fair Game was a core practice of Scientology and should be protected by the 1st Amendment right of religious freedom. It was denied in appellate court in 1989. After 20 years, Wollershiem was paid $8,674,643 by the Church of Scientology.

In 1980, a Scientologist named Gerald Armstrong was assigned to organize documents to help Omar Garrison, a non-Scientologist sympathetic to the religion, write a biography of L. Ron Hubbard. They realized that the papers reflected on Hubbard unfavorably. Some of Hubbard's "accomplishments" were outright fabrications or exaggerations. Garrison stopped working on the project, and Armstrong and his wife left the Church, keeping the revealing documents as insurance against harassment by the Church. The Church sued Armstrong in 1982 for theft of private documents. The Fair Game policy became an issue in court, and Armstrong won the case partly because Judge Paul Breckenridge ruled that Armstrong, as a former Scientologist, knew that Fair Game was practiced, and had good reason to be that the documents would help depend himself from the Church's harassment. Judge Breckenridge said:

"In addition to violating and abusing its own members civil-rights, the organization over the years with its "Fair Game" doctrine has harassed and abused those persons not in the Church whom it perceives as enemies. The organization clearly is schizophrenic and paranoid, and the bizarre combination seems to be a reflection of its founder LRH. The evidence portrays a man who has been virtually a pathological liar when it comes to his history, background, and achievements ... In determining whether the defendant unreasonably invaded Mrs. Hubbard's privacy, the court is satisfied the invasion was slight, and the reasons and justification for the defendant's conduct manifest. Defendant was told by Scientology to get an attorney. He was declared an enemy by the Church. He believed, reasonably, that he was subject to 'fair game.'"
(Judge Paul Breckenridge, Los Angeles Superior Court, June 20, 1984)

THE FAIR GAME POLICY TODAY:

Today many critics of the Church of Scientology are victims of the Fair Game policy. Mark Bunker, a famous Church critic and owner of www.XenuTv.com, has had his house picketed, has been wrongfully arrested, and has been assaulted verbally and physically [including having a hammer swung at him by a Scientologist].

Iallefall hvis vi skal tro den lett latterlige nettsiden Scientology Myths.

La oss ta en kjapp titt hva denne 'nøytrale' nettsiden klarer å lire av seg, jeg sier nøytral fordi forfatteren(e) hevder at: ScientologyMyths.info wants to find answers to the questions that are being asked all over the internet about Scientology, Scientologists, the Church and L. Ron Hubbard. Our goal is to find answers from independent sources, not only from Church of Scientology owned sites or anti-Scientology sites either.

Høres jo rimelig greit ut? Mjaaaaaaa.

There is a rumor around that a former member of Scientology could be declared "Fair Game", meaning that illegal actions could be taken against this person with Church officials closing both eyes. This is nonsense and has no evidence at all.

INGEN bevis sier du? HMMMM, la oss ta en kjapp til på fakta.

Men hvem lyver her? En SP ved navn Andreas? Eller en side som avslører hvor snill scientologene egentlig er? Kanskje begge? Du kan selv elegant trekke slutningen, etter å ha lest litt mer fra Scientology Myths:

[...] Scientologists do not pray to or worship somebody called Zenu, Xemu or Xenu. This is a myth.

Dette ER en myte, så de er kanskje ikke gale løgnere? For alle vet jo at Zenu/Xemu/Xenu ikke tilbes av scientologene! Han er jo den slemme. Det blir som å hevde at alle kristne tilber Satan.

The "Snow White Program" refers to a program written by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard in 1973. The purpose of this program was to legally correct a number of false governmental reports about the Church of Scientology, its leaders and members. The program is sometimes falsely called "Operation Snow White". Such an operation did not exist.

Åjaaaa, de skulle jo bare rette på noen papirer ved å infiltrere staten og herje med korrekturlakken sin. Da så, fint vi fikk ordnet opp i det. Forresten, hvis du vil lese om Operation Snow White kan du ta en titt her.

Is Scientology a cult or religion? Scientology wins court case after court case proving they are a religion. But regardless of what courts say, Scientology is spiritual in nature and applicable to life. It makes people happier and more able in their lives. It helps them spiritually. Don't take my word for it, ask a Scientologist. But ask a Scientologist, not some apostate who has an axe to grind.

Mmm, posterboy for objektivitet. Jeg skal ikke skryte på meg at jeg er noe annet enn subjektiv, men jeg driver heller ikke med åpenbare løgner om at jeg farer med nøytralitet og udisputable fakta.

Til slutt:
Keep in mind two facts. Attacking Scientology always gets press, because Scientology interests a great many people. And every time some group or individual thinks they have created "bad PR" for the Church, thousands of people stream through the doors to find out what all the noise is about. The greatest growth in the history of Scientology has also been during the greatest times of media attack. I find this funny, personally.

Mediaomtale. Og ikke minst trusler. Politianmeldte sådan, just for kicks. Gnag på den, scientologidioter.

In the late 1970s, the Cult of Scientology conspired to discredit and silence the Committee for Scientific Investigation of the Paranormal, CSICOP, an organization headed by world-renowned Humanist leader Paul Kurtz, who also heads the Center For Inquiry. The 1977 order from the top level of the "Church" of Scientology outlining the plan, entitled Program: Humanist Humiliation, was released by the Washington court that convicted nine US Scientology leaders - including Mary Sue Hubbard, wife of cult founder L. Ron Hubbard - of being active in a conspiracy to steal confidential government documents (i.e., Operation: Snow White).

The ultimate goal of the program: to "handle terminately" (i.e., to destroy) the publication of Zetetic, which is now known as The Skeptical Inquirer, and CSICOP "so that they never attack Scientology or Dianetics again". The methods: Scientology's Guardian's Office (now called the Office of Special Affairs, which functions as the cult's internal CIA/police service) would, through press relations and espionage, spread rumors that CSICOP was a front organization of the CIA put in place to discredit any and all psychic phenomena in order to keep this subject under CIA control, and to stop paranormal research outside of the CIA. Precise operations would include:

Forging a memo on CIA stationary and leaking it to selected people, including news media figures. The court documents include a report that this order was in fact carried out - a copy of a memo under CIA letterhead with the statement that it had been sent to the New York Times, broadcaster-columnist Jack Anderson and others.

A dozen or more Scientologists write letters (samples were included) as private individuals to known anti-Scientologists of CSICOP worded so as to elicit anti-religious statements. These statements would then be sent to leaders of recognized churches to indicate that CSICOP was working against them and that it advocated the "deprogramming" of their followers. The CSICOP, however, does not investigate theological or philosophical beliefs, accept in the cases where practitioners claim that their methods are scientifically valid.

The orders would be carried out covertly so as not to be traceable back to Scientology.

At some point Paul Kurtz managed to obtain a phony letter typed on authentic CSICOP letter head with a forged Kurtz signature. The forgery was addressed from Kurtz to a contributor, and worded so as to turn serious parapsychology researchers against CSICOP. Furthermore, Kurtz claimed in an interview that at least one CSICOP critic had suggested in a published article that CSICOP is linked to the CIA.

Why the CoS attack on CSICOP?

Scientology's attack on the committee was rooted in CSICOP members giving little credence to the pseudoscientific claims being made by LRH and his followers. CSICOP's first publication was released just before the "Church" officially formulated its attack. This inaugural publication included an article by British Sociologist Roy Wallis, which was an excerpt from a book he had written based on extensive research into Dianetics, LRH's disingenuously sub-named "modern science of mental health". Wallis' article stated that Dianetics, which LRH claimed to be based on scientific research, had been rejected by the medical, psychiatric and psychological professions, "appart from numerous marginal, limited and quasi-medical converts."

In his article, Wallis noted help he had received from University of Toronto professor John Lee. Lee was sued by Scientologists. Later on, confidential documents of Lee's along with relevant documents stolen from the Health Ministry's files from a project Lee had conducted for the Ministry regarding faith healing turned up in the US court documents. Translation: As a part of Operation: Snow White, the Cult of Scientology stole private documents of Lee and hte Health Ministry.

Welcome to the first CarnivUL of The fraudless!!!

This first CarnivUL(...T) will be dedicated to tracking major developments that have taken place since January in the international protest against the Cult of Scientology, discussing the why of the protest, the who of Anonymous, and compiling some of the best relevant YouTube video produced over the past 3 months.

For those who have visited Blog Carnivals before, be warned that this will be an unconventional carnival. CarnivUL of The fraudless, or CarnivUL(...T), will not in this edition or subsequent editions take all of its content from blogs. It is anticipated that much of CarnivUL(...T)'s content will come from sources such as YouTube, Enturbulation.Org, websites, and of course blogs.

On with the CarnivUL(...T)!

Long long ago - January 14 2008, to be exact - hilarious (and concerning) members-only Scientology propaganda footage featuring the highly indoctrinated Tom Cruise was leaked online. This video gained instant online popularity, being viewed by millions and covered widely on evening current affairs tabloid programming across the world. What was funny was Tom Cruise's glaring fanaticism, over-the-top laughter, statement that only Scientologists are equipt to deal with serious situations like an automobile accident, and apparent unwavering conviction that Scientology was the answer to pretty-well everything. What was concerning was Tom Cruise's glaring fanaticism, over-the-top laughter, statement that only Scientologists are equipt to deal with serious situations like an automobile accident, and apparent unwavering conviction that Scientology was the answer to pretty-well everything. Perhaps most concerning was his statement that maybe, and ideally, one day there will be no more SPs - i.e., people critical of the Cult.

This video wasn't up long before CoS issued a violation of copyright complaint and had YouTube pull the video. THIS DID NOT FLY WITH SOME PEOPLE. To some people, the Internet is Serious Business. Immediately after CoS's move to have their members-only video pulled from YouTube members an online leaderless anonymous cluster of Internet users that collectively referred to their loose minimally structured organization as Anonymous launched Project Chanology.

Who is Anonymous? Anonymous existed long before January 14, 2008. They are an unassembled assembly of anonymous Internet users that tend to meet anonymously at certain websites in order to exchange ideas, jokes, Internet content (which, from what I hear, is often very offensive content), and ideas for online pranks - which are often enacted. As I understand it, the two primary rules within Anonymous - which, again as I understand it, are administered collectively by Anons - are 1) all posting is done anonymously (not even with trackable nicknames, but with complete Anonymity from post to post); and 2) no child pornography. The main purposes of anonymity is so that people can express their thoughts, jokes, content and so forth more freely and submissions can be evaluated purely on their own merits, rather than based on the contributor. Here is one well-produced description of Anonymous:

Many great Internet memes were created and promulgated by Anons - e.g., the Rickroll, Lol Cats, and so on. The RickRoll has become one of the Nets most celebrated Internet memes in recent months, and has become the unofficial official song of the international protests against Scientology.

The RickRoll:

Why the name RickRoll? Before the RickRoll was the DuckRoll, another meme created by Anons which involved created a threat in which visitors would see an image of a duck on wheels, often to some sort of musical background. People would then trick people into going to that threat (i.e., by telling them that the thread was about something completely different that was of interest), and the visitor would be said to have been DuckRoll'd! This same idea was later applied to the 1980's music video Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up". This time, though, some Rollers were increasingly creative and ambitious in their RickRolling - often taking their Rolls into real life (or In Real Life, IRL). Here is the most impressive RickRoll that I've come across (the level of planning and coordination that must have gone into this is great):

Epic Win!

One of the most interesting things about the RickRoll is how it has quite understandably been misunderstood within the Scientology protest world. One of the automatic things humans do when interpreting things is to try to understand the relations and meaning of things - i.e., to interpret them. Because this song, and few others, continued to occur at protests around the world, many protesters inferred that there was some good reason for it. There were rumors that Rick Astley perhaps had been a Scientologist, was mistreated by the Cult, and so on. Nope! There is absolutely no known relationship between Scientology and Rick Astley - until now: his song, by simple coincidence, has serendipitiously become a rallying song for protesters of the cult.

So back to Anonymous' connection to Scientology...

Immediately following Scientology's insistence that YouTube pull all of these Tom Cruise Scientology videos, some individual Anons were outraged - few things piss many Anons more than perceived attempts at Internet censorship and Internet strong-arming. Hence the launch of Project Chanology. "Members of Project Chanology organized a series of denial-of-service attacks against Scientology websites, prank calls, and black faxes to Scientology centers" (Source: Wikipedia). On January 21, members of Anonymous posted the following video on YouTube, which described their plans to destroy the Church of Scientology in order to stop its suppression of dissent, frivolous and bullying litigiousness, deceit, exploitation of trusting members, and so on.

This and subsequent videos and the realization of Project Chanology attracted huge attention, being covered by many major news organizations and creating an online frenzy of YouTube viewers, excited bloggers, and so on.

Then a major transition in the nature of the opposition was spurred. In response to Project Chanology, seasoned picketer of Scientology Mark Bunker released a YouTube video entitled "Message to Anonymous" (I would love to present this video, but cannot because YouTube has pulled Bunker's account and I cannot find a mirror-copy of this video). In this video, Bunker expressed that he and other long-time protesters of Scientology (whom are often dubbed the "Old Guard Critics") are very happy that so many new people are standing against the organization, however, the current means of Anonymous are not the best course of action. By going about the protest by way of Internet attacks and prank phone calls and faxes, protesters are endangering themselves to a vicious potential response from Scientology; further, this is just not the most civil way of going about it. Bunker encouraged Anonymous to transform their movement into a grassroots campaign against the Cult.

Anonymous heard Bunker loud and clear. The transition from cyber-attacks and prank calls and faxes to grassroots activism and awareness-spreading took place over just a couple of days. Anons even enshrined Bunker with the nickname "Wise Beard Man", and the co-occurring statement "Wise Beard Man; His words are wise; His face is beard". This was the beginning of the coming together of the Old Guard with Anonymous. This union led to the widening of many Anonymous eyes, as protesters came increasingly to know that Scientology is far FAR worse than they had ever figured. They learned that the CoS is not just a dissent squashing, frivolously litigious, psychotherapy quack peddling, celebrity trophy-keeping, deceitful and highly insecure organization.

The cult is a thorough-going morally-indifferent malevolent organization that will stop at little-to-nothing to advance its ambitions of social propagation and profiteering, and to stop those who oppose these objectives in anyway. It categorizes enemies of the cult (or "Suppressive Persons", SPs) as second-class citizens that are not accorded the same rights as Scientologists and may be destroyed with impunity to Scientologist culprits. It also has an established practice of encouraging or requiring that Scientologists disconnect from family and friends who are critical of the organization. CoS's Sea Org - the large unit within Scientology that essentially runs the "Church" - is staffed by Scientologists who signed a billion year contract with the Sea Org, and are alleged to often be worked over 100 hours per week for less than $50 USD/week, live in cramped rooms with 3-12 other Org members, are required to have abortions or leave the Sea Org if they become pregnant, may not be married to non-Sea Orgers, are generally not allowed to have telephones and are not allowed Internet connections, TV, or to read their mail before it has been checked by Scientology officials first for entheta (negativity toward Scientology), receive persistent psychological abuse and pressure from superiors, are personally blamed if they get ill, and on and on. For more on the Sea Org, check out the write-up at ExScientologyKids. Astra Woodcraft also speaks of her personal experience in the Sea Org in her interview videos at XenuTV. In addition to the Sea Org is the Rehabilitation Project Force, which has been described by ex-members as a prison labour camp where members are sent and detained against their will, forced to do hours of grueling repetitive labour, etc. Detainees can be held in the RPF for months or years, it has been claimed.

The second major announcement released by members of Anonymous was "Call to Action", which clarified misunderstandings of who Anonymous is and what their goals are, began the new mega-scale awareness campaign against CoS, and announced the first international day of protest against the cult, February 10, 2008:

The 10/02/2008 protest was preceded by a few smaller "raids" (e.g., Caturday - a Saturday protest a week before Feb 10 - the name inspired by the online Anonymous community's interest in cat-related Internet memes just as the LolCats and long cat (which is long)). The largest Anonymous flash picket prior 10/02 was held in Orlando, Florida on February 2nd. You'll notice that some signs in this video read "Honk if you hate Scientology". Such signage has been strongly discouraged by Anonymous, because it conveys the wrong message: This is not about hatred for a belief system, it is about wanting to expose and stop the crimes conducted in the name of it.

So February 10th happened, and it was HUGE! Roughly 7-9,000 protesters converged on roughly 100 Scientology centres around the world. February 10th was huge, and it would surely not be the last time that CoS would come face-to-face with the faceless. In the following video, footage is presented from February 10, and the next international day of protest, Operation: Party Hard, which took place on the Ides of March, 15/03/2008, is promoted:

Now, during all of this, Scientology has been frantic. After all, they'd be dealing with a lot. In the matter of a few months, the cult had to endure to the leaking of the embarrassing Tom Cruise video, the early cyber, phone and fax attacks of Anonymous, the formation and mobilization of Anonymous street protests, the bonding of Anonymous with the Old Guard Critics, the release of Andrew Morton's Unauthorized Biography of Tom Cruise - which contained many damning allegations against the cult, the continual flood of more and more bad press and critical websites, and Jenna Miscavige Hill - ex-Scientologist and niece of Scientology leader David Miscavige - speaking out against the cult and verifying allegations that it separates families.

Regarding the Anonymous protests, Scientologists have been under order from administration to not speak to media. Media relations have been conducted by select administrators who would repeatedly stereotype all of Anonymous as a bunch of lifeless angry bigotted cyber-terrorists who were on par with the KKK. They have refused to dignify the claims of the protesters against the cult, sticking instead with tarring all of Anonymous as a newfangled Klu Klux Klan out to persecute religious minorities, Scientology in particular. They released this incredibly slanted video:

Notice how in this video, they present Anonymous as homogenous and structured organization that is capable of exerting control over the conduct of individuals who choose to protest Scientology anonymously? Anonymous is nothing more than individuals who conceal their identity. That's it. It's not a structured organization in any sense. It gets worse than this, though. There is every reason to believe that much of what they reported is patently false. Scientology has a history of lying, creating fake and anonymous identities, and forging threats to themselves in order to quash dissent. Former Scientologist Tory "Magoo" Christman has spoken on numerous occasions regarding how the organization had her and others create fake anonymous identities in order to spam online chat forums visited by critics and disgruntled ex-members. The Cult has also had members flood opinion polls to manufacturer desirable public opinion results. Most notably, in the 70s the cult stole letterhead from Scientology critic Paulette Cooper and used it to forge bomb threats to themselves. They also tried to have Cooper committed into a mental institution. In an FBI raid of CoS a few years later, documentation of a plan entitled "Operation Freakout" revealed that the cult's Guardian's Office (now called the Office of Special Affairs; i.e., CoS's personal CIA and police force) had conspired to have Cooper incarcerated or committed to or hit her so hard that she stops speaking against Scientology - she had been in the process of publishing the first book critical of the cult.

One member of Anonymous has accused Scientology of manufacturing the video bomb threat, pointing to differences in video quality of previous Anonymously-produced video footage with that used in the alleged bomb threat video:

This is also not the first time that the cult has tried to destroy the public image of critics. In fact, it is official policy to do so. L. Ron Hubbard-penned Fair Game policy reads as follows:

"SP Order. Fair game. May be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed"

(Source: ExScientologyKids.Com)

In this video, former Scientologist and Guardian's Office staff Frank Oliver describes how he personally was involved in the application of Fair Game to critics and disgruntled ex-members. The level of invasion and abuse is stunning.

In the previous video, you see direct citation of Hubbard saying that the purpose of lawsuits is to harass and discourage rather than to win. It is official CoS policy to file frivolous lawsuits and other criminal/legal actions to discourage critics. Such practices have been a part of the cult's reaction to the current protest efforts. In March they tried and failed twice to file injunctions preventing protesters from assembling outside of the Clearwater org on March 15. The cult has also pursued frivolous legal action action the protester in Boston, Gregg Housh, who filed the permit for the March 15 protest, pressing charges for trespassing and criminal harassment:

(Hat Tip: GlossLip)

The cult also took it upon itself to single out a few protesters that it had managed to identify and publicize personal information about them - their name, address, phone number and so on. Sympathizers would interpret this as the CoS standing up for itself. Critics interpret it as the cult trying to insite terror in the named individuals and everyone else who is rightly afraid of being Fair Game'd.

Probably the most common way of dealing with protester on protest days - aside from shutting the curtains, closing up shop, and keeping the Scientologists away from the windows (this, surely, is what LRH had in mind when he instructed Scientologists to confront and shatter suppression) - was to send out Scientologists who would literally masquerade as protesters in order to attempt to get information from Anons (e.g., names), to incite Anons to do illegal or morally-questionable things (e.g., throw things at the "Church" or at police, start a riot, begin yelling hate speech), and the like. Fortunately, most protesters are pretty good at identifying these Scilons, as they've been dubbed.

The Scilons were a pretty understandable tactic. But some of their other tactics were less comprehensible. For instance, why did this guy have a gun at a peaceful protest that was staffed by police?

The police have also partaken in many highly questionable responses to protesters. There was some pretty dubious police activities at the Buffalo 15/03 protest. In Atlanta two protesters were arrested for using a megaphone, while cars that beeped in supported of the protesters were ticketed:

Despite all of these very unfortunate events, overall the March 15 protest went very well. The success of the protests should be dedicated to those who had to go through these unjustified disturbances. Attendance estimates, to my knowledge, were in the 8-10,000 range. Here's another good video:

So now the protest efforts have been in full-swing for a while. More and more major media networks are covering the protests, including SkyNews, FoxNews, CBC (Canada), CTV (Canada), CityTV (Canada), major newspapers and online news sources, and more and more critical blogs, websites and YouTube posts were showing up. Critics like Mark Bunker, Tory Christman, and Andreas Heldal Lund were becoming household names. And Tom Cruise's Q-rating presumably continued to drop [Note to Scientology and Tom Cruise: I said presumably!]. Further, heaps of private Scientology documents (e.g., materials relating to the Scientology doctrine, the indoctrination process, security, handling of insubordinates, Scientology administration, etc.) have found their way onto the Internet. A CarnivUL(...T) contributor sent a link to his page which linked to these documents. I am refraining from posting the link, however, out of fear of legal action. Sorry, KB... But they are out there.

The sailing hasn't always been smooth for Anonymous as a whole, though. In addition to the misfortune visited upon some individual protesters by the CoS and some curiously motivated police, there has also been some in-fighting. Recall that Anonymous is not something that developed specifically for this protest. It existed for years before January 2008 for completely unrelated reasons. As the protest progressed and more and more people from outside of the traditional Anonymous online haunts (e.g., the Chan image boards) began joining in, some of the traditional Anons (sometimes called oldfags - "fag" in oldfag-speak is a term used in order to resist free speech suppression, and does not necessarily mean anything intentionally derogatory toward homosexuals) began to feel that Anonymous was being hi-jacked by Scientology protesters (who are sometimes called newfags or moralfags). Surely, the Scientology protesters hope that the two groups can avoid stepping on each others' toes.

Soon enough, April came around and it was time for the next protest: Operation Reconnect. Operation Reconnect took place on April 12. This was the first protest dedicated to a particular branch of Scientology's moral-indifference: Disconnection policy. As alluded to above, it is policy within Scientology that members be encouraged or required to break ties (to "disconnect") from anyone who is critical of Scientology - be they family, friends, acquaintances, or whomever. On April 12 approximately 7-8,000 protesters gathered once more at CoS's around the world, this time delivering the message "OT phone home" (OT=Operating Thetan, a high-level status within Scientology).

I couldn't find a good video compilation of the protests around the world, but here's the extremely well done press release and protest promo video (Note: if anyone knows of any good video compilations for 12/04, please leave a link in the comment section):

In the days immediately following Operation Reconnect, things really started to get interesting. Within a week, Tory Christman's YouTube account, ToryMagoo44, was pulled from Youtube (no doubt due to Scientologists flooding YouTube with complaint flags, resulting in YouTube's automated system automatically disabling Christman's account) and then reinstated it about a day later, Mark Bunker released the 3-minute teaser of Jason Beghe's recollections of his experience and his knowledge of Scientology, and Mark Bunker's account, XenuTV1, was pulled from Youtube a matter of hours before he was scheduled to release the full Beghe interview. Apparently, Bunker's account was removed because he had used some content from the Colbert Report. The account remains down. However, he now has a new account over at Vimeo, where you can find the full Jason Beghe interview (which is also all over YouTube) and on Mark's personal blog. The Beghe interview has attracted substantial media coverage from outfits such as FoxNews, TodayTonight (Australia), A Current Affair (Australia), the Village Voice (US), and more.

And then it was only a little over a week until Jenna Miscavige Hill along with Astra Woodcraft gave another television interview regarding Scientology. Click here to see this very damning review of the cult on ABC's Nightline. Nightline reported that they tried earnestly for weeks to get a statement from the CoS. Finally, the CoS gave a statement saying that they would not comment on JMH's claims as they believe that she has made an ecclesiastical issue a family issue, which they didn't want to be apart of, and that they didn't want to lower the dignity of the CoS by having to make negative statements regarding JMH's character. Anyone who has been paying attention to Scientology knows that this was a transparent diversion. Scientology has spent years defaming critics and ex-members (e.g., Bob Minton, Stacy Brooks, Mark Bunker, Shawn Lonsdale, Gregg Hagglund, and so on). And their disconnection policy casts serious doubts on any significant value they place on family.

TodayTonight then ran a very damaging investigative report on Scientology's Narconon drug-rehabilitation program:

And recently, a YouTuber posted a video of himself reading through the German government's lengthy and detailed warning package on Scientology:

Germany is surely not the only nation to have been highly suspicious of Scientology. A 10-year study recently led a Belgian prosecutor to contend that the CoS should be labeled a criminal organization:

Israel TV recently declared Scientology to be a "medical, moral and social threat".

In response to the release of this video, Dawn of GlossLip wrote:

“Are there any countries left besides the United States who haven’t declared Scientology to be a powerful, sinister and dangerous cult? So far, most of the Western World has identified this organization as a threat to the very fabric of society.

When will we wake up?”

Many people are waking up. Thanks to the efforts of the Old Guard, Anonymous, the ExScientologyKids admins Kendra Wiseman, Astra Woodcraft and Kendra Wiseman, the many people hosting websites on Scientology, and the news agencies, more and more people are coming to see the dark side of Scientology. Dawn herself has played a heroic role in exposing Scientology. In my eyes, GlossLip has become one of if not the leading non-forum website for news updates and exclusive interviews regarding Scientology. In the past few weeks she has conducted interviews with people such as Mark Bunker and ex-Scientologist Marc Headley. Her most recent posts pertaining to Headley, David Miscavige, the Sea Org, the Rehabilitation Project Force, Tom Cruise, and recent developments have been eye-opening and should definitely be checked out.

Here we are now on April 29th. This wave of protests has been in progress now for over 3 months. According to seasoned critics like Tory Christman and supposed Scientology insider leaks the impact has been huge. Scientology stats (i.e., sales, recruits) are claimed to be down, the number of defections is said to have risen, and the number of ex-members speaking out has absolutely increased. In addition to the major monthly protests, flash mini-raids have been staged in Toronto, various places in California, and presumably elsewhere. But the biggies haven't stopped.

The next international day of protest: May 10

The focus: Fair Game policy

Operation: FairGameStop

This, the first CarnivUL of The fraudless, has come to close. To wrap it up, I offer this final (and truly excellent) video as a personal gift to Tory Christman:

To everyone in the Old Guard, to Wise Beard Man (you're spectacular), to the "moralFags" of Anonymous, and to everyone who stands up for human rights everywhere, this delicious cake is for you!

From AnonymousToronto.Org:
“Between 1974 and 1976, Scientologists secured employment with gove

From AnonymousToronto.Org:

"Between 1974 and 1976, Scientologists secured employment with government agencies perceived to be enemies of the Church, and signed oaths of secrecy as public officials. In breach of their oaths of office, they then took copies of confidential documents from the agencies that employed them and provided them to the Church of Scientology of Toronto. The appellant, Jacqueline Matz, was a "Case Officer" and "Director of Operations", and was responsible for supervising the agents who had been planted in the various government agencies and other organizations."

The Crown v. Church of Scientology of Toronto was a 1992 Canadian case in which seven members were convicted and the Church of Scientology became the only Canadian religious organization to be convicted for breaching the public trust. The Church of Scientology was ordered to pay a $250,000 fine.

Investigation into the Church of Scientology's activities in Ontario was begun when stolen documents from public and private agencies as well as information on other covert activities in Canada turned up as part of the evidence collected in the Operation Snow White case in the U.S.

It was during this case that the events that spawned the case of Hill v. Church of Scientology of Toronto occurred. The Church of Scientology held a press conference on courthouse steps and had someone, in a barrister's gown, read from a speech prepared by the Church of Scientology in which they wanted to press charges against a Crown attorney who, they alleged, "had misled a judge and had breached orders sealing certain documents belonging to Scientology".

The case was appealed in 1996 before the Court of Appeal for Ontario by the Church of Scientology and one of the individual defendants, Jacqueline Matz. The appellants advanced numerous grounds of appeal, some of which were abandoned at the hearing, and the remainder of which were rejected by the Court (1996 CanLII 1650 (ON C.A.)).

In Hill v. Church of Scientology of Toronto, Justice Casey Hill, at that time a Crown attorney involved in the R. v. Church of Scientology of Toronto case, sued and won CAD$1,600,000 for libel, the largest libel damage award in Canadian history. During the case, it was shown that a file had been kept on him as an "Enemy Canada." In their decision (1995), the Supreme Court of Canada found:

"In this case, there was ample evidence upon which the jury could properly base their finding of aggravated damages. The existence of the file on Casey Hill under the designation "Enemy Canada" was evidence of the malicious intention of Scientology to "neutralize" him. The press conference was organized in such a manner as to ensure the widest possible dissemination of the libel. Scientology continued with the contempt proceedings although it knew its allegations were false. In its motion to remove Hill from the search warrant proceedings, it implied that he was not trustworthy and might act in those proceedings in a manner that would benefit him in his libel action. It pleaded justification or truth of its statement when it knew it to be false. It subjected Hill to a demeaning cross-examination and, in its address to the jury, depicted Hill as a manipulative actor."

Lying, malicious conspiracy, baseless defamation, stealing, becoming the only religious group in Canada to ever be convicted for breaching the public trust, and being on the losing end of the largest libel damage award in Canadian history. How very churchly of the cult...

Hundreds of Anonymous filled the sidewalk opposite the Toronto “Church” of Scientology o

Hundreds of Anonymous filled the sidewalk opposite the Toronto "Church" of Scientology on Saturday March 15 in the most recent major day of protest against the human rights abusing practices of the Cult of Scientology. Most attendance estimates seem to be in the 200-300 range. Police were very friendly and supportive. Protestors were enthusiastic, friendly and law-abiding. However, as was expected, the Co$ seems to have have sent out a number of its members to masquerade as protestors (well, technically everyone was wearing a mask...) in order to attempt to obtain information from protestors and in some cases engage in or attempt to provoke illegal behaviours. In their bravery and willingness to confront conflicting points of view, they shut down the building and drew all curtains shut (with the exception of the main entrance, which was blocked by police officers anyway), and rumour has it that they also had all members of the organization below the rank of OT3 (the level at which Scientologists learn about Xenu) evacuated from the premises in advance (apparently a number of Scientologists *live* in the Toronto Co$ building!). CTV, the Torontoist, the Toronto Sun, and presumably other local and national media representatives were on hand. Read on for more commentary and pictures.

The protest begun at about 11 AM and died off at around 5:30 PM. Here is a 1-minute video which gives a pretty good impression of the size of the crowd and the general vibe of the day. Here are some pictures of the crowd.

The protestors were very enthusiastic. The most prominent chant of the day would probably have to be "IT'S A CULT! IT'S A CULT!". Other chants included "RON IS GONE BUT THE CON GOES ON!", "WE CAN HELP!" (i.e., help Scientologists who have been essentially trapped in the cult by way of threats of social disconnection with friends and family, blackmail, harassment, physical barriers, guilt-trips, etc.), "RECONNECT!" (a chant encouraging the reconnection of Scientologists with family and friends whom they have been estranged from as a result of the Co$'s disconnection policy), "CULT NOT RELIGION!", "LLLLLL ROOOOONNNNN!!!" (a la DARRRRRRYLLLLLL, from The Simpsons), and so on. Protestors also sung a number of renditions of Happy Birthday (and subsequently chanted "WE WANT CAKE!"), as the late L. Ron Hubbard's birthday was on Thursday March 13.

Signs displayed such messages as "Terrori$t Cult", "CULT", "Church closed due to scam", "Google Fair Game/Operation Freakout/Operation Snow White/Lisa McPherson/Paulette Cooper", "Faith is a belief not a franchise", "Knowledge should be free", "Darwin would disapprove", "Tom Cruise cannot fly", "Scientology tears families apart", "Don't worry, we're from the Internet."(I loved this one!), "Cult not Religion", "Proud to be an SP", and "Please let us help you".

How did the Co$ respond to the protest? Well, for starters they pulled all the curtains down on the main floor (excluding the main entrance, which was "protected" by police officers) and most of the windows throughout the rest of the building, as can be seen in this picture.

They also seem to have had Scientologists masquerade as protestors in order to solicit information from protestors (e.g., their names) and to engage in or attempt to incite illegal behaviours. In one case, one of these people hurled an apple at the Co$ building, which ended up hitting someone. The hurler then ran away, being chased by a protestor. Another apparent Scientologist incognito attempted to encourage protestors to riot against the police officers (who were great, as I mentioned above), then heaped snow at some of the officers and ran away. Now, why do I and everyone else I spoke to think that these people were Scientologists and not simply aggressive protestors? A few reasons. Firstly, the protesting community has a well-established internal zero-tolerance policy for illegal acts. The Anonymous community knows that the Co$ wants nothing more than for protestors to engage in illegal, violent and/or hate crime-type behaviour, so that the Co$ can cry religious bigotry, victimization, and violence to its own members, the justice system, and the media, and hopefully be able to secure restraining orders so as to stop protests. Strong discouragement of all illegal behaviour has been a fixture in online discussion forums and at the protests. Hence, anyone in their right mind who genuinely wanted Anonymous to succeed would not do anything of the sort. Of course, one could argue that there were protestors who were not in their right mind. This, indeed, is a possibility. But the Co$ has everything to gain by creating the appearance of a violent, criminal, terrorist, bigotted opposition, and they already have a well-established track record of attempting to lie to and about opposition in order to stave of criticism and further the Co$ agendas. For instance, they are known to have attempted to frame critics Paulette Cooper for two bomb threats, Jesse Prince for marijuana possession, and Bob Minton for illegal economic practices.

One of the more popular protest attendees was Gregg Hagglund, who some are calling the Wise Beard Man of the North, in reference to the original Wise Beard Man, Mark Bunker, who is one of the most active thorns in the side of the Co$ and runs XenuTV.com, the Wog Blog, and the XenuTV1 Youtube video channel. Hagglund spoke of his experiences as a protestor of Scientology over the years. He claimed that the Co$ has tried to assassinate him, ruined his acting career, attempted to ruin his wife's career as a teacher by aggressively badgering her school telling them that she is a hate mongerer, and so on. Here is Gregg speaking to a small group of protestors after the protest had wound down.

While most of the protestors spent most of their time on the side of the street opposite the Co$'s main entrance, Gregg maintained a small group of intrigued protestors across the street from the other side of the Co$ building, which usually ranged in size from 7 to nearly 20 people.

As 5 O'Clock neared and the protest wound down, protestors reminded the Co$ that the two groups would meet again in April. And in May. And in June. And in July. And every month until the wall of silence falls to rubble and the truth of the organization's oppression of free speech, free thought, abuse of members and their families and friends, critics, and the entirety of the organization's illegal and unethical behaviour is brought to public light and is ceased.

The next protest is entitled Operation Reconnect. Its purpose is to oppose the Co$'s Disconnection policy, which requires Scientologists to not speak to anyone that has been declared a Suppressive Person (i.e., one who opposes Scientology), including family and friends. Its purpose is to raise public awareness of this practice of severing familial bonds and friendships, and to help disconnected people reconnect.

It's not everyday that we get to celebrate the birthday of a man who realized his aspiration to get rich by starting up a religion. It's not everyday that we get to celebrate the birthday of a man who created a totalitarian Orwellian terrorist cult. Today we get to celebrate both. Today is the birthday of the late L. Ron Hubbard, founder and "prophet" (pronounced /profit/) of Scientology. Continue reading to get an abreviated overview of the Church of Scientology's history as an oppressive, intrusive, exploitative, Orwellian, totalitarian, deceitful, profiteering, paranoid, home-wrecking, blackmailing, abusive cult.

This Saturday March 15 is the next international “Church” of Scientology protest. Why protest? Many people simply view the CoS as weird, creepy, secretive, underhanded, disingenuous, and intolerant of criticism. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

The CoS has a long history of intensely harassing, intimidating, spying on and following, smearing, lying about, framing, and going to great lengths to silence or destroy its critics. It is official policy of the CoS to encourage deceit, defamation, harassment, intimidation and destruction of anyone (person, organization or government) deemed to be an enemy (or “Suppressive Person”, SP) of the organization. This was referred to as their “Fair Game” policy [see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_Game_(Scientology)]. Three years after the introduction of “Fair Game”, the use of the policy *by name* was cancelled due to bad publicity. The policy is still in effect; just the name has been discontinued. For a particularly alarming example of this policy in action, read on Paulette Cooper, a woman who the Church attempted to frame for bomb threats (which, if convicted, would have resulted in up to 15 years in prison) and have committed to a mental institution [see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paulette_Cooper#Conflict_with_Scientology]. The CoS has harassed and in some cases attempted to smear journalists and government workers. It has been convicted for breaking and entering into government offices in the US (“Operation Snow White”) and Canada [see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Snow_White]

They are accused by many ex-members of using rigorous dehumanizing control tactics, including:

subjecting members to hypnotic one-on-one mind control procedures meant to promote submissiveness and suggestibility; [see: http://xenutv.wordpress.com/2006/09/28/get-your-trs-in/]

subjecting members to lie-detector-aided interrogations (the E-Meter is akin to a lie-detector)—which is literally thought-policing; [see: http://www.exscientologykids.com/emeter.html]

institutionalizing punishment, intense psychological abuse and intense social shunning (including permanent ostracism from the entire community, including one’s family and friends) for speaking or even thinking—let alone acting—negatively toward the “Church”, or for fraternizing with SPs who would engage in such “suppressiveness”, or for not informing Scientology authorities if one knows of another Scientologist engaging in such activities; [see: http://www.xenutv.com/interviews/astra-1.htm (in this video set, former member Astra Woodcraft describes her experience extensively, including discussion on psychological, social and physical barriers to questioning or defecting from Scientology); http://www.exscientologykids.com/disconnection.html]

Guilting members into conformity, by convincing them that Scientology is the world’s best (if not only) hope of survival, so how could you not do everything you can? [see: Astra Woodcraft videos]

Censorship of information critical to Scientology: CoS released software for members’ home computers which secretly included programming to block websites critical of the CoS. As mentioned above, the CoS also intensely discourages and often flat-out outlaws fraternizing with critics. [See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scieno_Sitter; Astra Woodcraft videos]

They are also Human Rights abusers. They

Prevent members from using psychiatric medications, even members with intense psychiatric problems such as Schizophrenia. In one case, a schizophrenic member deprived of medication stabbed his Scientologist mother to death [see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Perkins]

Deprive many Scientology children of proper education. Scientology kids in Scientology private schools are not allowed to be taught by their teachers. Instead, they read by themselves. Some Scientology children are often not in school at all, but rather are spending their days working for little or no money while often being berated for unsatisfactory performance. The students are instructed to lie to their parents, telling them that they are in school and things are going well. If they confess the truth to their parents, they get into serious trouble. One Scientology private high school has never produced a single graduate, because students are always recruited to the Scientology’s Sea Org (i.e., their navy) prior to graduation [see Astra Woodcraft videos]

The Sea Org is a haven for human rights abuses. Adults working in the Sea Org make $30 a week, while not uncommonly working 7 days for sometimes nearly 20 hours a day. Non-adults in the Sea Org make less. If one’s department is deemed to be performing below expectation (regardless of whether or not the employees have been working over 100 hours a week), their pay is often cut to ½ or ¼ of the normal pay, and they are often fed low quality foods like re-fried rice. There are also very strong physical and social restrictions to leaving the organization, including social ostracism, guilting and psychological abuse, and physical surveillance and prevention. If one does make it past this gauntlet of obstructions and gets out, they are forever deemed a “degraded being” by the entire organization and its members. [See Astra Woodcraft videos]

They are working to gain as much control as possible over the city of Clearwater Florida (the “Church’s” “Spiritual Headquarters”), including the employment of city police officers (which has resulted in clear manifestations of police bias in favour of the CoS, and a number of warnings that the police and the CoS are becoming alarmingly intertwined) and forming apparent alliances with local politicians [see: http://xenutv.com/trust/policevideo.htm].

And they are not a Church. They charge excessive amounts of money for their services. They rigorously suppress dissent both inside and outside of the organization, and have institutionalized extreme, unethical and often illegal opposition to dissent and criticism both within and outside of the organization. It is not an exaggeration to say that the Church of Scientology is a profiteering exploitative oppressive fear-mongering totalitarian cult.

Despite the length of this writing, this is merely an abbreviated list of Scientology’s suspicious antics.
STAND UP FOR FREE SPEECH AND HUMAN RIGHTS BY PROTESTING AGAINST THE OPPRESSIVE POLICIES OF THE CO$ AS APPLIED TO CRITICS, INDIVIDUAL SCIENTOLOGISTS, AND ANYONE WHO THE "CHURCH" VIEWS AS BEING IN THEIR WAY. ATTEND THE PROTEST ON MARCH 15. POST ON THE CO$' INHUMANE CONDUCT ON YOUR BLOG, WEBSITE AND/OR FACEBOOK NOTES. AND REFUSE TO TOLERATE OPPRESSION OF YOURSELF OR OTHERS.
