I've noticed a lot of friends and colleagues have written wonderful posts on the web app and this has me thinking it's probably my turn to weigh in.  But instead of writing some new ideas from scratch I'll take a twitter-esque approach and "retweet" (replay/repost) some of my favorites.  I'll give credit where credit is due, so feel free to check out these other blogs!

1.  First let's get an introduction to what Twitter is.  Embedded below is a video from a blog that explains technical concepts to the rest of us.  I bring you the Common Craft's "Twitter in Plain English."

2.  Next we have Ian's post on how he got over any hesitations and came to embrace the service.  It's also peppered with more great links on the topic.

3. Third entry today goes to another member of my blog roll (right hand column, list of other blogs I read).  Meet Carrie.  This first post talks about her experience with Twitter.  This second provides an account of how Twitter helped break the Chinese earthquake story.

4. The CEO of Zappos is a fan, and he provides this post explaining how to get started.

5. "Following" people is the terminology for building your community, and it's hard at first to know how to build this network.  This post from Pronet Advertising gives a list of influencers that you can add to your list.

6. Robert Scoble is an "early and often" proponent of Twitter.  Here he explains the value of following the right people.

7. Because of it's popularity and ease of use, many many third party applications have been developed to enhance the Twitter experience.  Well-documented social media expert Jeremiah Owyang discusses some of them in this post.

8. Additional value from Twitter comes from the fact that it can be accessed while you're away from your computer.  This post by Wired Pig explains how to access the service from your mobile phone's Internet browser.  I learned of this blogger through my own community.

9. Lastly, something fun. Another guy that I've gotten to know entirely through Twitter runs a blog called Edit Weapon.  He ran a 6 Word Contest and got entries from his network.  Results posted here.

Im Internet hingegen kann man Nischenprodukte ohne merkliche Zusatzkosten mit anbieten. Viele Shops lassen diese Artikel neben ihren Hauptproduktlinien laufen. Aufgrund der ausbleibenden zusätzlichen finanziellen Belastung können sich die Nischenartikel über einen längeren Zeitraum genauso rentabel erweisen wie Bestseller.

Interessant ist dieses Modell für ambitionierte Neueinsteiger im Online-Business. Mit dem Verkauf von ungewöhnlichen Produkten hat man da noch Chancen in den Markt einzusteigen. Der Verkauf von gut laufenden Waren wird natürlich längst von gestandenen Online-Shops dominiert, die aber unter Umständen nicht auf Nischenprodukte setzen. Hier ist also die Chance für den kleinen Internet-Unternehmer, sich mit Affiliate-Programmen im Nischenbereich zu etablieren. This will be the first of a flurry of online campaigning analysis as minds begin to focus on a general election at some point in the next two years.

Online campaigning is interesting for lots of different reasons: for academics it means data, the media see a rich source of scoops, and the parties see massive PR potential, if not a direct route to voters. No prizes for guessing what new media consultants see. For the electorate, online campaigning should mean having access to a sufficient amount of information on which to base informed decisions.

While all are agreed on the desirability of electioneering online, there is no agreement on what is feasible and what is worth doing. Online campaigning is still a 'grey area', which makes it a nightmare for the regulators - and probably the electorate - but while everything is up for grabs it also means that online campaigning is a rich source of innovation in a otherwise pretty mundane area of politics.

The event is invitation only but the FT is streaming it and has asked for questions to pose to the panelists. I've got a few:

• What proportion of election resources will the winning party put into its campaign?
• Can the parties genuinely strike a balance between presentation and functionality online - that is, can the parties truly offer something of value to the voter or is it all about appearances?
• In the age of the permanent campaign and the social web, does online campaigning have to stop when the polls close?
• The last time the Electoral Commission looked at regulation of campaigning online was 2003, and it concluded that there was nothing to be specifically concerned about online. Is this still the case?

I've formed views on these questions from research and discussions with 'stakeholders' of online campaigning. But what are yours?

There are very few drawbacks to working at home so you won't often hear me complain about it.  But barking dogs are one thing that my clients might take a dim view to because of the "let's not say we're working from home unless they ask" thing.

I have two dogs that usually behave and don't bark much, but a little old lawnmower will induce a ferocious barking frenzy.  I always did want to take my dog to work with me.   8D

Windows Live mengintegrasikan semua layanan berbasis Internet milik Microsoft. Cukup dengan satu akun, pemilik akun bisa menikmati berbagai fasilitas seperti mengecek e-mail, ngobrol via Instant Messaging, mencari info via Search engine, berbagi file, dan blogging.

Sebelum mencicipi Windows Live, Anda harus men-download file installer-nya dari http://get.live.com/getlive, dan menginstalnya ke PC.

Anda bisa memilih aplikasi mana saja yang ingin diinstal. Pilihannya adalah Mail, Messenger, Photo Gallery, Writer, Toolbar, dan OneCare Family Safety.

Selain enam aplikasi tersebut, masih ada Hotmail dan Spaces, dua layanan Windows Live yang bisa langsung diakses di Internet tanpa tuntutan instalasi aplikasi.

Setelah melakukan instalasi Windows Live, Anda bisa masuk ke Windows Live Home – melalui menu Start Program atau masuk ke http://home.services.spaces.live.com/ melalui browser.

Windows Live Writer

Layanan yang satu ini bisa dilirik oleh para blogger. Writer memudahkan Anda menyusun blog, menyisipkan gambar, video, serta konten lain ke dalamnya.

Buka [Windows Live Writer] melalui menu [Start]. Pada kunjungan perdana, sebuah boks akan muncul menyambut Anda. Pilih opsi [I don’t have a weblog,Create a new Windows Live Space for me] untuk membuat sebuah blog baru, lalu klik [Next].

Boks baru muncul. Isikan Windows Live ID dan password Anda, atau buat dulu jika Anda belum punya. Setelah itu, klik [Next] untuk masuk ke proses konfigurasi. Bersabarlah, proses ini cukup memakan waktu.

Setelah proses konfigurasi selesai, boks baru muncul. Masukkan judul blog Anda di situ. Sebagai contoh, kami memberikan judul “Louis7zen Writing Space” untuk blognya. Untuk melakukan beberapa pengaturan, klik opsi [Edit Settings]. Lalu klik [Finish] setelah selesai.

Kini Anda sudah bisa bekerja dengan Writer. Tampak tampilan ruang pengeditannya, isi blog – judul dan teksnya – terletak ditengah, sedang baris menu ada di bagian atas. Di bagian kanan, terdapat beberapa shortcut untuk menyisipkan link situs, gambar, tabel, peta, tag, dan video. Anda bisa menyimpan teks yang selesai diketik sebagai draft dengan mengklik menu [File] > [Save Local Draft] atau menekan tombol [Ctrl] + [S].

Untuk mempublikasi artikel, Anda bisa mengklik [File] > [Publish to Weblog] atau langsung mengklik tombol [Publish] di bagian kiri bawah baris menu. Sebelum artikel dipublikasi, Writer akan meminta konfirmasi ID dan password Anda sekali lagi.

Untuk memasukkan gambar, selain lewat menu [Insert]. Anda bisa mengklik opsi shortcut [Insert Picture] di bagian kanan layar. Sebuah boks akan muncul, dan Anda bisa memilih gambar untuk ditampilkan.

Selesai dipublikasi, secara otomatis postingan baru Anda akan masuk ke dalam Spaces. Blog Anda bisa diakses di URL yang berformat http://WindowsLiveID.spaces.live.com/blog (judul blog kita).

Windows Live Messenger

Sebagai alternatif chatting, Microsoft menawarkan Windows Live Messenger yang merupakan generasi baru MSN Messenger. Fasilitas yang disediakan cukup komplet. Di antaranya fasilitas daftar kontak, emoticon, layanan berbagi foto, telepon antar PC, video conference, hingga layanan berkirim pesan teks ke ponsel. Bisa dibilang, aplikasi ini bersaing dengan Yahoo! Messenger.

Supaya tidak bosan, Anda bisa mengganti-ganti warna boks Messenger yang secara default berwarna biru. Pilihannya sangat beragam, misalnya saja warna merah. Sebagai akses kilat ke menu Windows Live lainnya, ditambahkan beberapa tab seperti [Open your email inbox], [View your sharing folders], [Go to your space], dan [Go to Windows Live Today].

Pada Windows Live Messenger, ada beragam emoticon, disediakan untuk menambah semarak suasana chatting.

Untuk berbagi file, foto, atau video ukuran apapun di Messenger, Sharing Folder bisa dimanfaatkan.

Hotmail

Hotmail termasuk layanan email berbasis web yang populer dan tahan lama. Dengan adanya Windows Live mengintegrasikan semua layanan web Microsoft, pengguna Hotmail tak perlu repot membuka emailnya secara khusus. Begitu meluncurkan Windows Live Messenger atau Spaces, Anda bisa mengecek isi akun Hotmail secara otomatis. Untuk versi terbaru Hotmail memperkenalkan teknologi Web 2.0 yang lagi jadi tren. Kini, Anda juga bisa menikmati tampilan yang seperti email client Outlook.

Windows Live Photo Gallery

Fitur ini menarik, khususnya bagi Anda yang punya banyak koleksi foto pribadi di PC. Dengan Photo Gallery, aktivitas seperti mengimpor foto langsung dari kamera digital tanpa bantuan aplikasi bawaan dari kamera, mengorganisir foto dan video secara otomatis berdasarkan tanggal dan waktu, serta mengedit dan berbagi konten digital tersebut secara online bisa dilakukan dengan mudah.

Tampilan Photo Gallery, di bagian atas terdapat beberapa tab yang bisa diakses.

[File] untuk mengimpor gambar dari kamera atau scanner, menghapus, mengubah ukuran, atau menyetingnya sebagai screensaver

Di bagian bawah foto, Anda juga akan menemukan tombol bulat yang berfungsi menampilkan koleksi foto Anda dalam bentuk slideshow.

Pada tab [Make], tersedia beberapa pilihan untuk mengutak-atik foto. Ada [Auto adjust] untuk menyesuaikan tampilan gambar secara otomatis

[Adjust exposure] yang berisi setting Brightness

Shadows

Serta Highlithts yang bisa disetel disertai grafik Histogram

[Adjust color] untuk mengatur Color temperature, Tint, dan Saturation

Sangat memudahkan sekali, selain bisa mempublikasikan foto-foto secara kilat di layanan jaringan sosial Windows Live Spaces, Anda juga dapat mempublikasikan di Flickr. Jika sudah punya akun di sana, Anda tinggal mengklik opsi [Publish on Flickr] pada tab [Publish].

Lanjutkan dengan mengklik [Authorize] di jendela yang meminta otoritas Anda unutk meneruskan proses tersebut.

Windows Live Spaces

Spaces bisa dikatakan sebagai sebuah ruang online yang menyediakan akses bagi pemiliki akun Windows Live untuk mengakses aplikasi-aplikasi yang mereka butuhkan. Dengan mendaftarkan diri, berarti Anda mendapatkan ruang khusus (Spaces) di Windows Live. Format URL-nya adalah http://WindowsLiveID.spaces.live.com.

Sama seperti Friendster dan Multiply, Spaces menerapkan konsel jaringan sosial. Di ruang Spaces, Anda dapat memajang profile, gambar, musik, dan konten lainnya – untuk mempromosikan dan mengekspresikan diri. Anda juga bisa berinteraksi dengan pemilik akun Spaces lainnya dan mengundang mereka untuk berteman. Dari Spaces, Anda juga bisa mengakses Hotmail, mengupdate blog, dan berbagi file dengan rekan.

Jika bosan dengan wajah Spaces, Anda bisa mengutak-atik Space setting, blog setting, dan opsi email publishingnya; serta mengkostumasi Spaces dengan mengganti template, theme, dan layout-nya.

Windows Live Mail

Kalau Anda pernah menggunakan Outlook atau Outlook Express, Anda tak akan merasa asing dengan Windows Live Mail. Terus apa keuntungan yang diperoleh dengan menggunakan Windows Live Mail?

Windows Live Mail menyatukan seluruh akun email Anda dalam sebuah jendela yang tampilannya bersih dan mudah dicerna. Seudah begitu, Anda tidak perlu membuat filter spam untuk setiap akun e-mail. Cukup bikin 1 filter dan terapkan pada setiap akun e-mail yang sudah dimasukkan ke Windows Live Mail. Satu lagi keuntungannya adalah Anda bisa langsung menjalankan Windows Live Messenger langsung dari Windows Live Mail.

Selain melayani email, Windows Live Mail menyediakan tempat juga untuk RSS feed serta newsgroup. Jadi, email, RSS feed, serta berita bisa diperoleh dalam 1 tempat.

Berikut ini adalah pengaturan Windows Live Mail untuk akun email:

1. Buka Windows Live Mail dan lakukan login.

2. Setelah jendela Windows Live Mail muncul, klik [Add and email account].

3. Masukkan alamat email berikut password-nya, juga Display Name. klik [Next].

4. Masukkan alamat incoming dan outgoing server. Acuan pada layanan email yang digunakan kalau mau tahu kedua alamat itu serta pengaturannya. Klik [Next], lalu klik [Finish].

5. Klik [Send/receive] untuk menarik atau mengirim email.

6. Kalau mau nambah akun email, tinggal klik lagi [Add and e-mail account].

Windows Live OneCare Family Safety

Tiada beda dengan Windows Vista Parental Control, layanan ini memungkinkan orangtua untuk memantau kegiatan apa saja yang dilakukan anak-anaknya dengan komputer – termasuk dengan siapa mereka berkomunikasi. Fitur-fitur seperti daftar kontak dan Internet dimonitor lengkap dengan laporannya untuk memastikan mereka tidak menjadi sasaran empuk kejahatan cyber ketika sedang berinteraksi di Windows Live Messenger, blogging di Windows Live Spaces, atau berkirim via Windows Live Hotmail.

Tentu bukan orangtua saja yang dapat merasakan manfaat dari layanan ini. Anda pun bisa menggunakannya untuk memastikan komputer Anda tidak digunakan secara sembarangan oleh orang lain, misalnya adik, keponakan, atau teman.

Setelah menginstal Family Safety, Anda bisa langsung melakukan setting untuk Parents (orangtua) dan Children (anak). Jika ada lebih dari satu orangtua atau anak yang menggunakan komputer, Anda bisa menambahkannya di menu [Add child] atau [Add parent]. Supaya aplikasi ini efektif, pastikan ia telah diinstal di komputer yang digunakan oleh orang yang ingin Anda awasi. Pastikan pula mereka selalu melakukan sign in dan sign out dengan benar.

Pada bagian setting untuk orangtua (di sini diwakili dengan nama Louis), silakan tentukan kategori mana saja yang boleh diakses. Di sana ada banyak kategori yang bisa di pilih. Contohnya Alcohol. Drugs, Hate speech, Pornography, Web chat, Web mail, dan Any website that Family Safety can’t evalute.

Untuk menyetel mana yang boleh dilihat dan yang tidak, klik opsi [Allow] atau [Warn]. Klik ikon [Save] jika sudah selesai.

Pada bagian anak (disini diwakili dengan nama Lucky), tentukan setting secara General terlebih dulu. Pada pengaturan Contact list, Anda bisa menentukan apakah anak sebagai pengguna dapat melakukan pengaturan sendiri atau tidak. Pada bagian Allowed programs Anda dapat menentukan apakah mereka boleh menggunakan Windows Live Hotmail, Windows Live Spaces, dan Windows Live Messenger, atau tidak.

Sedang pada opsi Content, Anda bisa mengatur pemantauan secara aktif serta memblokir kata-kata yang kurang sopan menurut MSN Encarta Dictionary.

Di bagian setting anak berdasarkan Categories, ada tiga pilihan yang disediakan. Pertama, Anda menentukan supaya anak (di sini menggunakan nama Lucky) hanya boleh mengunjungi situs tertentu saja yang daftarnya telah Anda susun. Kedua, Lucky hanya boleh mengunjungi situs yang tadi telah Anda susun daftarnya, plus situs yang ditujukan buat anak-anak lainnya. Atau ketiga, selain bisa mengakses situs yang telah Anda daftarkan dan situs anak-anak lain, Lucky masih dapat mengunjungi situs lainnya yang kategorinya sesuai dengan setting yang telah ditentukan dan dinyatakan aman.

Ada tiga opsi di bagian kategori ini, yakni [Allow], [Warn], dan [Block].

Opsi yang terakhir sudah pasti berarti si anak sama sekali dilarang membuka situs tersebut.

Windows Live Toolbar

Windows Live memiliki toolbar yang diinstal pada Internet Explorer. Dengan adanya tool ini, Anda bisa mengakses fitur Windows Live dengan cepat ketika kita sedang browsing di halaman situs web apa pun.

Anda bisa melakukan pencarian menggunakan mesin pencari, mengakses email, melihat peta, membuat blog, mengakses messenger, serta Windows Live Spaces. Semua itu terletak di bawah toolbar standar Internet Explorer.

Windows Live Toolbar juga punya fitur antiphising yang bisa mencegah pencurian data ketika Anda menjelajah Internet, apalagi melakukan transaksi dengan kartu kredit atau data privat lainnya. Window Live Toolbar juga memiliki fitur untuk menghentikan jendela pop-up.

Barangkali juga, dari Windows Live Toolbar, kita bisa mengakses Windows Live SkyDrive, layanan media penyimpanan online. Tapi sayang, saat ini SkyDrive baru dalam tahap beta. Orang-orang di Asia belum bisa menikmati layanan ini. Jadi hal tersebut, belum bisa di bahas di sini.

Search before you hire an online marketing specialist.

Raising will allow you to control the hand in play and it will eliminate loose limpers to the flop. Raising is a sign of strength and it will give you information on your opponents hands e.g. their hand is good enough to call a raise with, or their hand is no good and they fold.

A good aggressive raise with premium cards would be 3xBB plus 1 BB for every limper in front of you. So if blinds are at $25/$50 and there are 2 limpers in front of you (the SB and BB do not count), your raise would be 3x$50 + $50 + $50  = $250 total. This puts a serious question to the limpers who will elect to fold most of the time.

Smooth calling is almost always the worst move to make pre-flop. You do not gain any information about your opponent's hands and you are entering the pot weak.

If you call pre-flop, only for the pot to be raised by a late position player, then an even worse play to make is to smooth call that raise. Ask yourself this: If you are prepared to spend 4xBB to see a flop with your hole cards, then why not raise it to 4xBB when the action first comes to you? Being first aggressor is crucial in a game of no limit poker.

There are few situations where it is correct to simply call pre-flop, maybe I will discuss these at a later date, but if you want to improve your game and your table image, then nearly every time you play you should be either folding or raising pre-flop.

The South Australian Skeptics are active - online! The fine and beautiful City of Skeptics does indeed exist and they're not afraid to blog it. The Passively Multiplayer Online Game is not for you kids on dial-up (sorry mom), or for anyone nervous of being distracted by some new and awesome web page. It's an online adventure where you score points by trawling the web and helping others to do the same. You can also make friends, chat and all the other usual stuff. It's played by means of a Firefox add-on (sorry Gareth) that puts a toolbar on your browser and tracks your web activity. Sounds a bit anti-privacy you say? Well, yes, and that's why I was careful to read the Privacy Policy and a couple of reviews before trying it out. Explicitly, the game will not track your visits to https (secure) sites, like banking sites. Additionally, you can turn your gaming on and off to allow you to visit 'untracked' sites. And there are a couple of other great privacy options, including easily being able to erase your profile and data if you decide you've just had enough.

Because the game is essentially generated by the players, the more players there are the more fun it'll become. At least, that's my thinking. So give it a whirl, and tell me what you think.

Woldwide Telescope è l'ultimo servizio online targato Microsoft che vedrà la luce alla fine di questo mese e promette ai suoi utenti di farli passeggiare per lo spazio. Grazie a questo servizio sarà possibile osservare lo spazio proprio come si stesse osservando con un telescopio,anzi forse anche meglio. I dati a cui fa riverimento il servizio sono inviati direttamente dalla NASA che raccoglie tali dati grazie al telescopio Hubble Space e altri telescopi piazzati in tutto il globo terrestre.

Un servizio del genere non è assolutamente una novità,anzi è stato lanciato parecchio tempo prima da Google con il suo Google Sky,ma come si dice un pò di concorrenza non fa mai male.

L'attuale sito è raggiungibile a questo indirizzo. Ho provato ad accedere con Firefox e risulta innavigabile e a prima vista penso che il problema è che tale sito sia stato realizzato usando esclusivamente la tencologia Silverlight (concorrente di Microsoft)che non è ancora disponibile(che io sappia)per il browser open source.

I haven't heard from my erstwhile "best friend" in a while, not since the wedding and I thought I would check to see if she's been in touch over the weekend. She hadn't been but another friend emailed and with that strange synchronicity that mimics Zeitgeist said he had seen her profile on a dating website. And he gave me the username. So I went and had a look.

Now I want to email her and say Get That Profile Down. This is a woman who regularly complains that she can;t meet anyone. Or that the men she meets are after one thing only. Well describing yourself online as "sexy blonde" and marking "thrill seekers" and public nudity among your "turn ons" isn't a good start. She's a bright, attractive, intelligent girl except when it comes to men. She will write a profile that makes her sound like a slapper and then, dump the guy after one date for being too forward.

SO my punishment for being so nosy is that I am dying to tell her, an honest straightforward profile will attract honest men, and pretending to be something you're not will attract d$%kheads!! but I can't. So I'm telling ye instead.

I stumbled across Mobyko - a free (yes, it really does seem to be free) system for backing up your mobile phone address book. You simply go to the site, sign up for a free account and identify your phone. They then send your phone a piece of synchronization software. You press the button and it sends your phone address book to a secure online vault. Every time you add a new name or number you can re-synchronize with your online data.

That's it.

They promise not to share your details with anyone.

I already use Mozy, the online backup service for my important computer files (Word documents and accounts data). Although Mozy is free, I can see that the company would make some money because there is a limit on the free storage space and regular users are eventually likely to want to pay to buy more. However, that doesn't seem to be an issue with Mobyko as the complete address book is backed up, though clearly the firm will be willing to sell you other extras if you want to buy them.

Ok, I know there is no such thing as a free lunch, but as yet, haven't seen the bill. Do let me know if you can see something I can't.
