Già un aggiornamento per il Nokia n78, parliamo della versione 11.043 , aggiornabile non da NSU, bensì via OTA (over the air), quindi direttamente dal telefono cellulare (Menu->Strumenti->Utilità->Gestione Dispositivo).

I miglioramenti dovrebbero riguardare:

Stabilità del Bluetooth;

Sensibilità naviwheel;

Fotocamera migliorata;

Velocità globale migliorata.

L'aggiornamento è di circa 2MB, ovviamente il costo non riguarda il firmware ma quello della connessione del vostro operatore per scaricarlo...costo che si azzera se scaricate il firmware col wi-fi.

How get the latest Nokia Software Updater working on Windows Vista

I think most of you who use Microsoft’s Windows Vista are aware of the problem that Nokia has

I think most of you who use Microsoft's Windows Vista are aware of the problem that Nokia has recently removed the official support of Vista for the Nokia Software Updater, the application to self-update the firmware of your S60 device.

This is a response to a configuration change of Vista which expresses the top of the huge compatilibity problems between the desktop operating system and the updater.

In practice this means that you can currently not start the application when using Windows Vista, the following error message will appear:

However, there is an easy way to get the Nokia Software Updater start on Vista also at the moment. Be aware that Nokia has of course had its reasons to remove the support and that the following steps will just show you how to start the application. Possible problems can anyhow occure for which I and Nokia don't assume any responsibilty.

Just follow the next steps which are unfortunately only explained with German screenshots, because I wasn't able to change the language of Vista that quickly. It should anyway be easy to understand.

Start the Nokia Software Updater using Windows Vista:

Right click on the "Nokia Software Updater" desktop icon and select "Properties" from the appearing menu.

Switch to the "Compatilibity" tab, set a hook at "Run this program in compatilibity mode for:" and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)". Confirm by clicking on "OK".

Now you can launch the "Nokia Software Updater" and it will start like you know it from older versions. Happy updating! ;)

I think the non-support for Vista will of course be just for a short period of time, because the operating system is already widely spread on computers and so it's an urgent problem. As long as Vista isn't supported, I hope I could help you with my little guide.

I am using Microsoft's operating system Vista and so I have already made experiences with the problems the Nokia Software Update, Nokia's tool to give users of their phones the opportunity to update their phones at home, causes when using it with Microsoft's controversial successor of Windows XP. Microsoft has recently changed Vista configuration which let the number of problems rise onwards.

Nokia seems to have enough of the constant user complaints regarding the problems they have in the daily use with the NSU and that's why Nokia has temporarily removed support for Microsoft Vista from the Nokia Software Updater.
Support will be reintroduced as soon as possible. Nokia apologises for any inconvenience this may cause.

AAS reports that Nokia has temporarily removed Windows Vista from the compatibility list for the Nokia Software Updater. My reaction? Its about time they did that. A lot of us have been having trouble updating our devices on a Vista machine. I almost bricked my E90, fortunately things worked out after a little hit and trial and the same Vista machine made it work. Here's the error people generally get, infact Antony had written about it earlier.

For someone new to S60 and Firmware upgrades such 'not so pleasant experiences' would go a long way in making them not trust their Nokia devices and PC applications. However, what is good to see is that Nokia has taken notice and are acting on it.

I'm sure the support will be back soon, till then we wait; and yes, look for XP machines!

The N73 is enjoys still great popularity among Nokia users and is because of that frequently improved by Nokia with firmware updates.

There have already been various updates in the last time for Europe and APAC product codes, which have partly been pulled back again by Nokia.

Good news for have occured today with Nokia's release of another update for the S60v3 modell with the version number v4.0812.4.0.1.

Unfortunately, I nor have information about changes, nor have I spotted a change log. Of course I will inform you about any news related with the new update.
As usual, users of N73 APAC phones can update their phones via the Nokia Software Updater.

Edit: One confirmed change is the addition of the "Mobile TV" application. With an external DVB-H receiver, you will be able to watch TV on your N73.

Demand Paging however doesn't seem to have been added, free RAM remains in a similar dimension as with previous firmwares.

Here is a list of phones which should be able to update, including also the special "N73 Internet Edition":

Resistance to the use of social software in libraries is not only futile, it’s foolish. Come and learn the practical ways blogs are being used at Northeastern State University in order to enhance both communication and instruction in the library. Find out how librarians at NSU have integrated this free technology into their workday and how its use has served as a valuable time management tool, thereby making busy workdays more efficient and productive.

After the pretty "revolutionary" firmware updates for Nokia's latest Nseries flagships, they have also released a new one for the slider phone of their Eseries line, the E65.

The update is really nothing which can be compared with the great updates for the N95, N95 8GB and N82 which brought new great features like geotagging, auto rotation or Flash Lite 3 support. It's a very basic update which has the task to fix known bugs and improve the stability and won't impress that much.

Mentioned should still be that the default date has now been changed to 2008. For the other changes, have a look at the change log.

Decide yourself, whether the update is worth it to update your E65 and loose all data.

The firmware update is already available for certain product codes and in Nokia Service Centers, other ones could should be set free progressivly as usual.

Finally a new N82 firmware is on the way! As usual, Teo from Symbian Freak has his trusted source which already confirmed the updates for the N95 and N95 8GB and has now done so for the release of v20.0.62 in a few days.

As I have announced, the new N82 firmware brings full Flash Lite 3 support to give users the possibility to view YouTube videos and of course other Flash content in the default browser.
Furthermore, Widget support has been added as well as the already known onbaord geotagging function which uses the GPS chip to save your current position in the EXIF file of a photo.

Last but not least the N82 supports the new Bluetooth profile AVRCP (Audio/Remote Control Profile). Apart from that, N82 will experience the normal bug fixes and stability improvements we know from firmware updates.

As we know it from the last updates, the firmware is expected for the next days to be available via NSU and the Nokia Service Centers. Another nice update of Nokia!

Today's preparation for comps was not as successful as I had hoped. The pile of articles and notes I intended to take to work for lunch hour perusal were forgotten until I was 20 minutes into my commute, so I wrote a post about the TCC workshop instead.

When I got home, I found the latest issue of American Libraries had arrived so I decided reading that would be today's comp preparation. One of the primary themes in this month's edition is Green libraries (as in environmentally friendly). This topic goes well with a wiki one of my NSU coworkers, Emily Brown, recently created.

Here's a library quote from Em:

Here at the library we're identifying ways to conserve energy and preserve the environment every day at work. Some of them are small things, but we're looking into bigger ideas and plans.

Take a look: http://jvlgreening.wetpaint.com/

I hope that if you have an interest you create a wetpaint account and join in the conversation. I just announced this to my department, so I don't have a ton of participation yet. But I'm looking forward to the brainstorm that ensues!

Oh, and feel free to share this with anyone who might be interested!

Wow, AAS reports that Nokia has just released a great new firmware for their current communicator.

Wow, AAS reports that Nokia has just released a great new firmware for their current communicator.

The Nokia E90 is the ultimative business phone of Nokia which offers not only great business functionality but also up-to-date multimedia features.

Firmware v200.34.72 brings above all Flash Lite 3 support to the E90. Really surprising for me, I thought Nokia would only offer this great feature to phones of their Nseries line running with S60v3 FP1. Nokia has already released updates for the N95 and N95 8GB and a new firmware which will bring this feature for the N82 is also already certain, but Nokia to offer Flash Lite 3 to E90 users is indeed surprising and great at the same time.

The E90 has perfect conditions to view Flash videos. Its large screen is great to view videos directly on a web page like we know it from a desktop computer as you can see ahead. Switching to a special playing mode like on the N95 is not necessary.

Furthermore, AAS report that there should also be support for Web Runtime added like it has been done with the new N95 firmware. You can use useful Widgets now on your E90.

To keep business functions also up-to-date, the firmware also includes Quickoffice 4.1.27.5 with many enhancements over the old v3.85.

As usual, bug fixes have also been executed and the general phone speed is faster. However, no demand paging has been added but with 128 MB RAM it's not that necessary.

Here are Steve's impressions of the new firmware:

Flash Lite 3 added, with Flash video support

Support for Web runtime is probably here as well, it tends to come along with FL3 - can anyone confirm this?

Maps won't open (for me, at least), you get instructed to go to the web for the latest version. Clumsy. On the web, v1.0 is shown and v1.02 is served up, which at least installs and runs fine. I'm sure the latest v2.0 beta would, too.

New 'Set up Internet telephony' shortcut on standby screen

Includes Quickoffice 4.1.27.5, many enhancements over the old 3.85, although without the extra functions of the v4.5 and v5.0 paid upgrades. There are also extra options in Quickmanager, specifically more rebrands of Epocware products. The new Quickoffice is apparently back-ported from the version which will be standard in S60 3rd Edition FP2.

Application opening and booting seem faster. I don't think that v200 has demand paging though - seems more like optimisations.

A boat load of bug fixes and tweaks. The 'Today'/# bug in Calendar seems to have gone away. Anyone confirm this with a decent size Calendar dataset? Also, let's hope Web is more stable!

Nokia is really caring about their consumers, this is another nice firmware update which brings useful features. And now also to their Eseries line.

I don't know for which product codes the firmware is available yet, but as usual the update should also be available soon for free codes which currently can't update yet via NSU or the Nokia Service Centers
