I got a txt last night from a friend and she asked me to go to a club with her Downtown. I haven

I got a txt last night from a friend and she asked me to go to a club with her Downtown. I haven't been out to a club in a long time, and I also hadn't seen my friend in awhile either.

For anyone who doesn't read my blog regularly, I don't ever go out "sarging" or doing anything for the sole sake of getting girls. I haven't been to a bar or a club because I haven't wanted to or had any reason to. I don't go out "searching" for women anymore. It's fucking pathetic.

So my friend and I went out. We caught a band, we had some drinks, I ran into some old friends and some people who I've been wanting to avoid. Nonetheless, it was a fun night.

I didn't do one single "confrontational" approach - meaning walking up to a group of people and forcing them to like me through means of an "opinion opener" or whatever other dorky Mystery Method thing you want to call it. I know I'm constantly going on and on about this, but this PUA stuff is so counter-intuitive to normal behavior. "Set your phasers to stun," as Nonex would say.

Here's several things I noticed from the night, though. My friend and I spent the beginning part of the night sitting down talking and having drinks. Sure it was great for interacting with each other, but it's only when you're up and moving that things REALLY happen. I know this is a duh statement, but even in the world on non-game you need to at least give yourself an opportunity for interaction.

Of course, the benefits of non-game are that you don't have to work yourself up into a frenzy (finding your nimbus) and you don't have to overcome your Approach Anxiety, because there's no approach.

I only had one interaction. A girl was standing next to me, and I noticed that she had open body language towards me (which sometimes means something, sometimes it means nothing). Someone bumped her walking by and she got a pretty nasty look on her face, like "don't touch me". Towards her I said, "what rude fuckers" with a laugh, and it opened up a conversation.

I don't really remember much of anything that I said, not that it matters because words mean absolutely nothing in an interaction (93% non-verbal, 7% verbal). I did try to bring a little bit of kino into the interaction and be laid back and humorous. I know I wasn't on top of my game, but who cares. I also used Brent Smith's tactic of giving her my phone number and then walked away. Not much more than a 5 minute interaction.

What was most striking is that I seriously don't care what happened. I didn't feel any pressure, I was mainly just being friendly. Also, the most important thing to me is practicing giving out my number. If she calls then that would be fine, if she doesn't then that's fine also. Either way, it just doesn't matter.

Who is Harish Thawani? I had no idea till this morning. A few weeks back, while watching IPL's (Indian Premier League) Twenty20 cricket matches, I noticed the logo of Nimbus Sports and made a note on the post-it pad and forgot about it. This morning I found the post-it on my desk and remembered to investigate the 'Nimbus Sports Productions'. It did not take me any time to see the emerging phenomena, in the persona of 'Harish Thawani'. Sitting in The United States for the past 20 years or more, we tend to miss the emerging stars back home.

Researching Harish Thawani or Nimbus in a few hours is not possible, yet I want to put it up on my Blog for future investigation. Let my readers know that we have another potential Indian billionaire in the making. The flamboyant 47 years old, is an economics graduate from Bombay University. No celebrated alumnus of Harvard or Stanford, Harish Thawani is the son of a development manager with the Life Insurance Corporation of India. In other words, a true son of the soil. Thawani worked as an Accounts Executive with Lintas Advertising, ASP (Advertising & Sales Promotion) and finally with Chaitra Leo Burnett.

Harish Thawani founded Nimbus Communications in 1987, as an advertising agency, producing and marketing serials on Doordarshan. He shot to fame with a slickly produced superhit serial, Muqabla. He was soon forgotten as there was not much excitement on Doordarshan those days. Thawani came back to prominence in 1992 with World Cup Cricket. He bought the rights for India.

Jump to:CoE,Products
Infosys(INFOSYS) has nailed the problem this time. [FY 2007-08 results and anal

Jump to:CoE,Products

Infosys(INFOSYS) has nailed the problem this time. [FY 2007-08 results and analysis here].

And done with an elan.It has been granted two patents on cutting edge technologies by US Patent Office. It had been a bit slow start for Infosys but nevertheless a good show till now.

GV Subramanyam, VP of SETLabs believes, that in order to stay ahead, speed of innovation, the customer focus and co-creation will hold the key, if it wants to take a lead in the next wave of its growth.

I was in Bangalore two weeks back and heard Kris Gopalakrishnan talk about the need for disruptive innovation, non-linear growth and India. I was thinking at that point, whats the use, when Infy in itself is so lethargic to innovation.

I stand corrected today.

Take a bright example of the philosophy of Infosys[fast innovation,customer attention and co creation with partners]

Google.
Its lightning fast in rolling out products with a strong end user focus and co-creation through repetitive iterations. And look at what it is.

A giant in its own right.

In order to achieve a disruptive growth, Infosys way back in 1999, set up Software Engineering and Technology Labs also known as SETLabs.
With 500 researchers on the fray, SETLabs is a busy hub developing cutting edge process frameworks,methodologies, technologies and hi-tech IP.

To further bring forward its focus on innovation, it has set up dedicated Centers of Excellence-s(CoE) which focusses on the nitty gritty details of issues regarding technologies, method to leverage them in an IT environment and then sufficiently add value to the entire process so that the innovation becomes a disruptive one.
Given the research portfolio SETLabs' CoEs are maintaining, its hard to actually say where does the traditional core competency of Infosys ends and acquired skills start out. Which is perfectly alright, for an organization needs to have a set of finite resources to help it take on the times when a business cycle downturn comes.

Talking about Infosys CoEs, they are working extensively in the areas of:

CoE

Convergence : This CoE focusses on increasing the degree of pervasive computing in an IT organisation with products like Elixir and Nimbus to show for it, and two patents grants by USPTO is quite an impressive show by this CoE. With its interest in Wireless Sensor Networks and its wide range applications in a business, it is but a matter of time before this CoE starts delivering actual tangible business solutions for enterprises.

Grid Computing : Another big in Infosys's vision. This CoE is striving to create an adaptive services grid in close collaboration with SOA CoE (see below) . With the underlying technolgy based on the IP of grid computing coherently serving a service oriented architecture apps and platforms, this CoE is actually trying to change the very core competency of Infosys itself. So it should not be an exaggeration, if in the coming future, clients actually ask for a total underlying computing overhaul (competency of Grid Computing CoE) with a focus on enabling a better SOA(competency of SOA CoE and Infosys as well).

Service Oriented Architecture: Focusses on developing better and value added software architectures for better service.

Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence: A huge opportunity as well as a challenge for Infosys to develop some hard hitting tangible products on this line. Extensively focusses on the hi-tec issues concerning, in and around Data Warehousing and deals with tools and ways to for effective Business Intelligence. With a consolidated market share for the existing players in the BI domain, it remains to be seen how Infosys tackles with its competitors as and when this CoE has something to show for.Also works with forecasting business cycles, trends and thought leadership and the usual business intelligence stuff.

J2EE: Plain vanilla J2EE implementations for enterprises and the esoteric technologies in and around it.

MS Technology Center: Focusses on leveraging Microsoft tech within Infosys and by its customers

Products:

ELIXIR: Middleware for Wireless Sensor Networks. Allows organisations to maintain, support and control multiple applications in a single sensor network setup. And these sensors will be deployed in motes (points where measurements has to be taken) and then effectively controlled, monitored and supported by a central server running ELIXIR.

Potential Applications: Any potential business with large amounts of data to be processed coming from numerous channels in a decentralised organisation. Long story cut short: Airports, Manufacturing, Shipping etc.

NIMBUS : Context- Aware Pervasive Computing, with the 'invisibility' of the underlying technology and fundamental characteristics to the end user to enable seamless computing. Context Sensitive as in understanding of strengths and limitations of different devices it works with. Focusses also on Infosys proposed Task Aware Computing, Context Aware Computing, and Anytime Anywhere Computing

MANTRA:  A software maintenance platform

NConnect: A middleware to create mobile applications faster

Java Kernel
Java Kernel is a new distribution aimed at getting Java software up and running faster.

Java Kernel

Java Kernel is a new distribution aimed at getting Java software up and running faster. Instead of a full JRE, users download a small installer (the "kernel") which includes the most commonly needed JRE components. Additional components are downloaded as needed, and the JRE will download remaining components in the background and then reassemble itself.

More information about Java Kernel can be found in the 6u10 FAQ.

Java Plug-in

Java SE 6u10 includes a brand-new implementation of the Java Plug-in, which is used by default as long as you are using Firefox 3 or Internet Explorer. The next-generation plug-in runs applets outside of the browser in one or more separate processes. Applets still appear inside of the web browser window as they always have, but this means that it is now possible to use different JRE versions, command-line arguments, and configurations to run different applets. The isolation provided by running the web browser and the JRE -- two very large, very complex pieces of software -- in separate process spaces improves the reliability of both, and gives applets the same flexibility and control over JRE configurations that other Java software has always enjoyed.

New Plug-In Advantages:

Improved reliability

Improved JavaScript communication

Per-applet control of JRE command-line arguments

Per-applet control of JRE memory settings, larger maximum heaps

JNLP support

Per-applet JRE version selection

Improved Vista      support

Much more information about the new plug-in can be found in the release notes.

Java Deployment Toolkit

The Java Deployment Toolkit makes deploying Java applets or Java Web Start programs a snap. The Deployment Toolkit JavaScript file provides:

Accurate detection of installed JREs

Seamless JRE installation

Complete applet launching (JRE detection and, if necessary, upgrading) in a single line of code

Complete Web Start program launching in a single line of code

The following HTML code is all it takes to ensure that Java 1.6 is installed and then a Java applet is launched:

<script src="http://java.com/js/deployJava.js"></script>

<script>
  deployJava.runApplet({codebase:"http://www.example.com/applets/",
     archive:"ExampleApplet.jar", code:"Main.class",
     width:"320", Height:"400"}, null, "1.6");
</script>

More documentation about the deployment toolkit can be found here.

Nimbus Look and Feel

Metal look and feel for Swing was the only competition for the Windows 95 interface in Java. Given the state of graphical user interfaces a decade ago, Metal was an attractive and elegant alternative to the other common interfaces of the time.

The updated Ocean theme in Java SE 5 helped to keep Metal a viable choice up to the present day, but it's time for Swing's cross-platform look and feel to get an overhaul.

Enter the Nimbus Look and Feel. A brand new, modern look and feel based on Synth, Nimbus provides a polished look to applications which choose to use it. And because Nimbus is drawn entirely using Java 2D vector graphics, rather than static bitmaps, it's tiny (only 56KB!) and can be rendered at arbitrary resolutions.

Swing in Metal

Swing in Nimbus

For compatibility reasons, Metal is still the default Swing look and feel, but updating applications to use Nimbus couldn't be simpler. It only takes a single line of code:

UIManager.setLookAndFeel("com.sun.java.swing.plaf.nimbus.NimbusLookAndFeel");

You can also force Nimbus to be the default look and feel by specifying
-Dswing.defaultlaf=com.sun.java.swing.plaf.nimbus.NimbusLookAndFeel
on the command line. A more permanent way to set the property is to add

swing.defaultlaf=com.sun.java.swing.plaf.nimbus.NimbusLookAndFeel

to the file
<JAVA_HOME>/lib/swing.properties
. You will have to create the swing.properties file if it does not already exist.

For further reading about Nimbus, take a look at the Nimbus early access page.

Lured by the promise of seeing a Wayne McGregor piece I hadn't yet had the fortune to see, I headed down to the Royal Opera House today to check out "New Works in the Linbury." (Here's the description of the show: "Monica Mason is delighted that The Royal Ballet are back in the Linbury Studio Theatre presenting a series of world premieres by choreographers from within the Company. Plus, there is an opportunity to see Wayne McGregor’s new short work Nimbus, which was specially commissioned for the World Stage Gala last November.")

Well, the night is over and I'm not sure when the chance was to see Nimbus. Was it in the lobby before the show started? Was it a special "extra features" at the end of the night, after the dancers had all taken their bows as if it really was all over? Was he really laboring in such obscurity that it was no longer possible to see his stuff on stage? I really have no idea. Thankfully it meant there was also no chance of an unfortunate encounter with Mr. McGregor, in which I would be tearfully ashamed of liking his work so much and yet being no longer capable of speaking to him, but then, surrounded by what I can only assume were British ballet folk, I suddenly felt, well, I really was just a nobody anyway - none of these people were ever going to speak to me of their own will other than to tell me to please let them pass by or kindly stop whispering during the performance. What a change from the software testing conference I went two three weeks ago, when the giants in the field were all most open to speaking about their work and how it might relate to what you personally are experiencing, in a helpful, problem-solving way.

The list of works were as follows: "What If," choreography Ernst Meisner, danced by Romany Pajdak and Sergei Polunin; "b," choreography Viacheslav Samodurov, danced by Sarah Lamb and Ivan Putrov; "Of Mozart," choreography Liam Scarlett, dancers a cast of hundreds (or rather eight); "Agitator," choreography Matjash Mrozewski, danced by Isabel McMeekan and Thomas Whitehead; "Monument," choreography Vanessa Fenton, also many dancers; "Stop Me When I'm Stuck," choreography Jonathan Watkins, danced by Yuhui Choe, Lauren Cuthbertson .... and some more dancers, but I'm trying to avoid carpal tunnel here.

The opening number, as it turns out, was my favorite of the night. "What If" was just ... what do they say, luminous? The two dancers were fun, young, athletic, and made me fall in love with them. They were young colts frolicking on stage, and though Romany seemed to not quite smoothly get two of her turns, I couldn't help but get excited about a future of watching the two of them dance together.

Liam Scarlett's "Of Mozart," with a musical choice that couldn't help but make me think of Mozart's Journey to Prague, seemed straight out of the school of modern choreography that plays it straight, with lovely, classic costumes (long, toned skirts for the women; shorts and long sleeved, tight-fitting tops for the men); old music; and a dance vocabulary that's very familiar but throws in occasional bits that show its modernity (feet held at a 90 degree angle; supporting dancers by holding the back of the neck). It even had little bubbly "personality" bits that made me think of Jerome Robbins; most notable was the hand movements (clenching; rotating; opening and closing) during a pizzicato movement. Liam really seems to get what I think modern ballet audiences want, and I expect he's going to have a pretty successful career as he gets more fully into his stride.

Sadly, I don't think what he's producing is what ballet needs. How are we going to get new audiences? Are we going to stick to what's safe until there are no more people under 65 watching ballet? I started thinking about "Chroma" and how awesome it was and how the choreography was just so blistering fresh at some point in the middle of "Of Mozart" and just couldn't get my concentration back. The performance I was watching was fine, but it wasn't pushing myself or the art just one little bit. I felt sad about this and kind of relieved that it was time for intermission.

After intermission the evening restarted with "Agitator." This also wasn't a genre-breaking piece, but ... my god, could Isabel McMeekan dance. I could not get my eyes of her fantastic legs and her fluid movement from one position to another. (I felt a bit badly for Thomas Whitehead as he didn't have nearly the opportunity to show off she did.) I felt like it was on the verge of breaking into that really exciting partnering work that Forsythe does, but no luck. That said - it was still pretty damned yummy. I'll be watching for her in the future.

My last review is for my least favorite piece of the night - "Monument," which is apparently by a choreographer that was quite popular with the audience. It all started off quite well, with fantastic electronica ("Pathogenic Agent") by Jens Massel, aka Senking. The full-body, black with orange neon and glittery lines bodysuits were all a little to amusingly Cyberdogs for my taste, but we had black toe shoes to deal with and I was just kind of riding with it, watching the dancers contort themselves, the women's feet arching in their shoes, the men throwing them over their shoulders, the music sounding really fantastic on the Linbury sound system.

And then it all went south. Maybe I had show fatigue; maybe ... it was bad. Suddenly we transitioned into the second movement of Bach's Violin Concerto in E, and we were staring at a couple on stage. The woman was stiff, her feet as flat as they can get, her eyes staring straight at the sky - and if we weren't clear that she was dead, the man waved his arms over his head in this Z motion straight out of a Greek play (and, I think, Martha Graham). Good God! Why the obviousness? What happened to what we were watching before? Then it was grief, grieving, oh, the sadness, the other dancers joining in the sadness ... and at the very moment I was thinking about what I'd just seen and how cliched it was and how with any luck I'd never see someone making this Z motion with their hands again ... all of the dancers were doing it at the same time! AAAAUGH!

I'm afraid at this point I snapped the tether, and then I was looking at things like the bottoms of the pointe shoes (were they black, too?) and the violinist (Tatiana Bysheva, really making a career in classical music look sexy). Eventually it was over, and we got to watch "Stop Me When I'm Stuck," which I was now too tired to really enjoy but J said reminded him of a dream ballet (it was his favorite bit of the night). There were occasionally some pretty great solos but I had my fill for the evening, and without Wayne, I felt like the evening had a few too many empty calories in it as a whole (despite being filled with utterly gorgeous dancers).

(This review was for a performance on Thursday, May 22, 2008. Reviews of the other pieces may come later.)

Nimbus is all set to foray into the rental DVD market and plans to set up 125 DVD stores across 69 cities in India within a few months. They have already launched their website www.showtimevideo.co.in and 4 stores in the Mumbai metro wherein an end consumer can enter a store and rent or purchase DVD's or VCD's. The store would be a bit relevant to a small "Planet M" store, but there you can't rent anything. Other than visiting the store, the consumer has the option of renting the DVD or the VCD by calling a 40164444. A representative from Nimbus will then be sent to deliver the DVD or VCD and might also up sell another DVD or VCD to the consumer. He will then collect the payment and the DVD or VCD the next day.

Nimbus is the name of a look-and-feel designed by Sun for the Java Desktop System; it’s implem

Nimbus is the name of a look-and-feel designed by Sun for the Java Desktop System; it's implemented as a GTK theme in the latest Solaris 11 pre-release builds. In 2007, this project was started by Sun's Swing Team and Ben Galbraith to build a pure Java implementation of this look and feel under a opensource licence. Later on it was decided to pull Nimbus LAF in to the core of the Java platform as part of version 6u10. Nimbus is now available in the beta version of 6u10 available at http://download.java.net/jdk6/.

The version in the JDK took some of the concepts that were experimented with in the project but is a complete new codebase. It is still based on Synth LAF but is 100% pure vector based using no images. This project is dead for the time being until Nimbus is made opensource through Open JDK. Once that happens it might be pulled back into the project so that we can work on a backport jar that could run on older Java versions than 6u10.

Nimbus is a new cross-platform Swing look & feel, which packs many features and enhancements. It is not just another look and feel but with some exciting features:

2D Vector

All of Nimbus is rendered with 2D vector graphics, there is not one image even for all the icons. This means that the whole of Nimbus is just 56k as a packed JAR which is pretty impressive for a whole rich look and feel.

High DPI Ready

As the whole of Nimbus is drawn with shapes and gradients it can be scaled to any resolution.

Based on Painters

All painting for components is done with simple stateless implementations of the Painter interface. These painters are stored in the UIDefaults table so they can be replaced if you would like to change the look of components or can be used in your own components if you would like to create a custom table header for example that looks the same as the standard Nimbus one plus something extra.

Customizable

All colors, icons and fonts are derived off UIDefaults keys so the whole UI can be customized by changing values in the UIDefaults table.

Easy to skin 3rd party components to fit in

All of the colors, fonts, icons, borders and painters are exposed through the UIDefaults table which means they are available to your 3rd party components to help you skin them in a Nimbus style.

Usage

To use the Nimbus Look & Feel, simply call the setLookAndFeel methods from UIManager:

        try {
            UIManager.setLookAndFeel(
                    "com.sun.java.swing.plaf.nimbus.NimbusLookAndFeel");
        } catch (UnsupportedLookAndFeelException e) {
            // handle exception
        } catch (ClassNotFoundException e) {
            // handle exception
        } catch (InstantiationException e) {
            // handle exception
        } catch (IllegalAccessException e) {
            // handle exception
        }

Alternatively, you can either specify the L&F from swing.properties file or from a command line. To use the swing.properties files, specify the swing.defaultlaf property. The file (if exists) is located under <jre install>\lib:

# Swing properties
swing.defaultlaf=com.sun.java.swing.plaf.nimbus.NimbusLookAndFeel

To specify the L&F from command line, use the following when running your Java application:

-Dswing.defaultlaf=com.sun.java.swing.plaf.nimbus.NimbusLookAndFeel

Dr. Albert Hofmann (the famous pharmacologist who first synthesized LSD), died on Apr 29 night (at the age of 102). He died at home probably from a heart attack (he was not tripping as he departure out of this reality into the next - like Timothy Leary did).

. . .

The toothbrush that my dentist gives out to adult patients is made by Nimbus. It is the softest toothbrush I have ever used. At first, it feels too soft. I've become accustomed to it now though, and I can't use any other brand. I like getting this toothbrush from my dentist at each appointment. The recommendation is to change toothbrushes every three months, but one of these toothbrushes lasted me five months. Then the bristles started to fall out and gag me. I had another month or so to wait before my next dental appointment, so I bought a brush labeled "soft" at the store. I did a lot of damage to my gums and was so embarrassed to have to go to my dental appointment with sores in my mouth. I pleaded with the dentist for another Nimbus toothbrush.

These toothbrushes are not sold in stores. They can be purchased by calling a toll free number or you could even take the initiative to ask your dentist to give them out. Consumers can get a pack of six brushes for only $9.99 and dentists can buy them in bulk for an even better price. I highly recommend this brand.

Introduction
Don’t be fooled by its unassuming name: the upcoming Java 6 update 10 is a very

Introduction

Don't be fooled by its unassuming name: the upcoming Java 6 update 10 is a very different animal than the updates that preceded it. Java 6u10 pushes the envelope by adding more new features and functionality than in any previous Java programming language update release, including many that have been a long time coming.

Officially, a "Java update release" is a release in which only the fourth version number (the 10 in 1.6.0_10) changes. Unlike major releases, update releases are not allowed to add, remove, or change any public APIs, and generally this has limited update releases to only containing bug fixes. 6u10 likewise contains no new or changed public APIs -- but despite that restriction, we still managed to squeeze in some incredible new features.

Why A Special Update Release?

Once a Java program is up and running, it's generally smooth sailing. Modern Java Runtime Environments (JREs) are stable, reliable, and fast.

Unfortunately, getting to the "up and running" part has historically been more difficult than it should be. Challenges have included:

Difficult to detect JREs, especially from a web browser

Difficult to automatically install new JREs

Large download size

Poor cold start performance

Little overlap between applets and Web Start programs

Java 6u10 was created as a response to these challenges. By carefully avoiding public API changes, we can get the fixes into your hands sooner -- no need to wait for Java 7!

Java Kernel

The JRE provides many different APIs: Swing, AWT, ImageIO, SQL, CORBA, RMI, math, XML, XSLT, concurrency... too many to name, and each new release adds more. While the variety of APIs makes it easy to write Java software, it's no coincidence that the JRE has been getting steadily bigger over the years (Java 1.5 was a smaller download due to better compression; the uncompressed JRE was still bigger).

In the current build, the typical download size for Swing programs and Java applets is on the order of 4-5MB, compared to 14.4MB for the full JRE

Next-Generation Java Plug-In

Java 6u10 includes a brand-new implementation of the Java Plug-in, which is used by default as long as you are using Firefox 3 or Internet Explorer.

Since applets now feature the same powerful JRE selection and configuration that Java Web Start programs do, it was only natural to use the same mechanism for both. The Java Plug-In now supports using Java Network Launching Protocol (JNLP) files to specify applet configuration and startup options. With very little additional work, you can now deploy the same program as both an applet and a Web Start program, and still take advantage of JNLP services such as
PersistanceService
and
FileSaveService
.

New Plug-In Advantages:

Improved reliability

Improved JavaScript communication

Per-applet control of JRE command-line arguments

Per-applet control of JRE memory settings, larger maximum heaps

JNLP support

Per-applet JRE version selection

Improved Vista support

Last month I got an fw: email from my parents from my mother's close friend, Beverly Normand. Beverly and my mother worked together for a number of years doing School Based Problem Solving in the Chicago Public Schools. The email was to inform my parents that she was donating a photo (one of my 1st) that I sold to her few years back, to an auction to raise funds for her organization the Rald Institute.

Rald Institute's mission is to assist at risk children and individuals with learning, social-emotional, and other disabilities. We strive to enhance self-worth while strengthening cognitive and affective domains. We work to increase public awareness of various disabilities and function as advocates. The institute supports schools by providing technical assistance to staff. Rald provides experiences in the arts because we believe such experiences help children expand critical thinking, increase imagination and develop an appreciation for cultural diversity. Inclusive art workshops are offered at no cost to children. The institute is run by volunteers and there are no charges for services to individuals.

In support of Beverly's organization I have just donated another piece: coversaciones a pastel drawing, which is part of the series godworks. If you are an artist who would like to help, I am sure they would be grateful for any other submissions. If you are a patron of the arts or would simply like to make a donation to the Rald Institute I am sure they would be equally as grateful. At the very least please check out their site, it is well worth it!

here is a link to an abc special on Beverly's work. (click on image)

Beverly Normand, Ph.D., Founder and President, is a consultant for public and private schools in Illinois, and is lecturer and adjunct professor for several universities. She recently retired from the Office of Specialized Services, Chicago Public Schools, after thirty-four years of service as Special Education Teacher, Citywide Instructional Specialist, and Facilitator for School Based Problem Solving/Response to Intervention programs in Psychology and Special Education. She earned degrees from Roosevelt University, DePaul University and Chicago State University. She was a contributing writer for several publications of Chicago Public Schools, is the recipient of numerous educational awards, special recognitions, and various grants. She has written and hosted several educational television programs, has been published in numerous journals and magazines and has participated in various research projects.

A poet, designer, lyricist and patron of the arts, she has collaborated with artists and musicians on special projects and has planned and coordinated cultural programs and art exhibitions for school children, churches and other institutions throughout her adult life.

Serving as Commissioner of Religion and Race for the United Methodist Church in the South Shore Community of Chicago for twenty years, Normand developed activities and programs to support African American history and culture, while also planning activities and programs to strengthen multi-cultural exchange and diversity training. She served as editor for the Nimbus publication for many years.

Normand has helped thousands of pupils, parents, teachers, ancillary teams and school administrators, and is highly respected for her integrity, creativity and skills. "I believe in interdisciplinary instruction and all curricula that stimulate the imagination and lead us away from mediocrity and complacency. The mission of Rald Institute is to reduce the at-risk population, support children and individuals with special needs in a manner which leads to self-actualization, support as many parents and teachers as we can, and help twenty-first century educational leaders maintain integrity and democratic forms of leadership, while problem solving."

Rald institute sells art to help create funds for general operations. Some of the art work has been donated by artists. Some of the art was purchased or donated by Board members. In rare cases, artists loan work on consignment and agree to share equally with Rald Institute when their work is sold. We thank all of the artists who have helped us and given their time and work. We acknowledge the sacrifices all of our volunteers have made in order to help people with disabilities. We thank the public in advance for participating in our fundraising activities and sharing our love of creating new possibilities in health, education and welfare
