A Remarkable Story of God's Grace

It says in James 1:2, "Consider it pure joy, my Brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds."

It seemed like a tall order to “count” hurt, pain and struggle as nothing but “pure joy” when my birth date arrived. My parents were Christians; my Dad was even a Pastor of our church, so that verse was quite familiar to them. However, on the morning of December 4th , 1982, in Melbourne, Australia, the last two words on the minds of my parents was "Praise God!". Their firstborn son had been born without limbs! There were no warnings or time to prepare themselves for it. Having no answers at all, the doctors were completely shocked and taken off guard!

The whole church mourned over my birth and my parents were absolutely devastated. "If God is a God of love, “ they questioned, “Then why would He let something like this happen, and especially to committed Christians?" My Dad did not think I would survive for very long. But, tests proved that I was a healthy baby boy with just one hitch, I’d been born without any limbs.

Understandably, my parents had strong concern and evident fears of what kind of life I would be able to lead. The first big hurdle was for my parents to be at peace, trusting that God was still fully in control. It took a number of months and a lot of tears, questions and grief before coming to terms within their own hearts. God provided them with the strength, wisdom and courage they would need through those early years. Soon after that, I was old enough to go to school.

School was really enjoyable for me and I really tried to live life like everyone else. But, it was in my early years of school where I encountered uncomfortable times of feeling rejected, weird and bullied because of my physical difference. It was very hard for me to get used to. In spite of this, with the support of my parents, I started to develop attitudes and values which helped me overcome these challenging times. Though I knew I was different, on the inside, I was just like everyone else. There were many times when I felt so low that I wouldn't go to school in order to avoid all the negative attention. With encouragement from my parents, I began to ignore the bullies and tried to start making friends by just talking with some of the kids. Soon the students realized that I was just like them. Starting there, God began to bless me with new friends!

Many times I felt depressed and angry because I couldn't change the way I was, or blame anyone for that matter. In Sunday school, I learned that God loves us all and that He cares for us deeply. At that stage in my childhood, I could understand His love to a point. But, as you can imagine, I still got hung up on that fact that if he really loved me, why did He make me like this? I wondered if I’d done something wrong and began to feel certain that this must be true. Otherwise, I thought, God wouldn’t have made me the only weird one out of all the kids at school. Feeling I was a burden to those around me, I sensed the sooner I’d just go away altogether, the better it would be for everyone. So, at a young age, I wanted to end my pain and my life. But I am thankful, once again, for my parents and my family who were always there to comfort me and lend me their strength. Thankfully, a real turning point arrived!

Due to the emotional struggles I had experienced with bullying, self-esteem and loneliness, God began to instill a passion of sharing my story and experiences to help others cope with whatever challenge they might have in their lives. Turning my struggles into something that would glorify God and bless others, I realized my purpose! The Lord was going to use me to encourage and inspire others to live to their fullest potential and not let anything get in the way of accomplishing their hopes and dreams.

As I grew older, God continued to prepare my heart and teach me to seek Him. One of the first lessons that I have learned was not to take things for granted. With a wake-up call around the age of twelve, I realized just how much God had blessed me. My foot, what I’ve termed “my little chicken bone” I had been taking for granted. But it serves me well. God had freely given to me and so much with my loving family, and so many other blessings, I realized “Why should I still complain?” God directed me to Romans 8:28 and there I found this, "And we know that in all things God works for the best for those who love Him." Wow! That verse really spoke to my heart. It convicted me to the point where I’m confident that there’s no such thing as luck, chance or coincidence and that these "bad" things happen in our life to make us more like Christ.

In James 1:3 & 4, it reads, "...know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." Enlightened through God’s Word, I felt complete peace rush in, knowing that God will not let anything happen to us unless He has a good purpose for it. At the age of 15, I completely gave my life to Christ after reading John 9. In this chapter, Jesus said that the reason the man was born blind was "so that the works of God may be revealed through Him." I truly believed that God would heal me so I could be a great testimony of His awesome power. As I grew in Christ and in spiritual maturity, the Lord gave me the wisdom to understand that if we pray for something within His will, it will happen, but in His timing…not ours. And likewise, if our prayers are not within God's will, then I know that He has something better. His purpose became clearer to me and now I’m fully convinced and understand that His glory is revealed as He uses me just the way I am. And even more wonderful, He can use me in ways others can't be used.

Now twenty-five years old, I’ve completed a Bachelor’s Degree in both Financial Planning and Accounting. Also, I’m active as a motivational speaker. Again, my number one passion is for souls. I just love to go out and share my story and testimony wherever opportunities become available. Over time, I’ve developed messages that relate to and encourage students through topics that challenge today's teenagers. The Lord has used me to speak in the corporate sector as well. For more information on Nick's presentations, go to "Nick's Ministry".

In recent years, I’ve learned to become independent and can now take care of all my personal needs. I’m able to do everything from brushing my teeth and combing my hair to dressing up and taking care of my personal hygiene, including shaving. I get around the house by jumping around and, outside the house; an electric wheelchair assists me. For recreation, I enjoy swimming, fishing and playing soccer.

Passionate for reaching out to the youth, I’m constantly ministering in schools from elementary to high school. Ultimately, I make myself available for whatever God wants me to do, and wherever He leads, I follow, for I’ve learned to trust Him fully.

Achieving goals and pursuing dreams is something I’m actively pursuing on a regular basis. Some of these include becoming the best witness I can be of God's love and hope, to become an international inspirational speaker and to be used as a vessel in both Christian and non-Christian venues. These goals are, even now, being realized. Other aspirations of mine yet to be realized is my desire to modify a car that I can drive, to be interviewed on the "Oprah Winfrey Show" and share my story, and to write several books. With anticipation, I look forward to starting on the first of these this year. Not surprisingly, the title will be, "No Arms, No Legs, No Worries!"

Many would think these goals were too far-fetched. However, I believe that if you have the desire and passion to do something, and it's within God's will, you will achieve it in good time. As humans, we continually put limits on ourselves for no reason at all! What's worse is putting limits on God, who is well able to do all things! We put God in a "box". The awesome thing about the power of God is that if we want to do something for God, we must refocus. Instead of concentrating on our capability, our attention needs to shift to our availability. For, the Word of God is clear; it is God working through us. Without Him, we aren’t capable of doing anything on our own. Once we make ourselves available for God's work, guess whose capabilities we rely on? God's! Philippians 4:13 highlights this point well, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." God has a truly great purpose for your life!

As far as your unanswered prayers, remember that God is Faithful. What are we to do when we are seeking but not finding? Jeremiah 29:12 states, "Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the Lord.

Take courage my friend for the Battle is the Lord's. Let me urge you to keep striving for the truth. The truth, found in Jesus Christ, is what will set you free. It’s His peace, reigning in your heart, that will give you true freedom from the fear and doubt that has previously resided there. May the Lord bless you as you diligently seek Him and grant you Godly wisdom and strength through your journey.

Reflections on Why Christians Suffer Losses
by: John Piper
Revelation 2:10
When huge pain comes in

Reflections on Why Christians Suffer Losses
by: John Piper

Revelation 2:10

When huge pain comes into your life-like divorce, or the loss of a precious family member, or the dream of wholeness shattered-it is good to have a few things settled with God ahead of time. The reason for this is not because it makes grieving easy, but because it gives focus and boundaries for the pain.

Being confident in God does not make the pain less deep, but less broad. If some things are settled with God, there are boundaries around the field of pain. In fact, by being focused and bounded, the pain of loss may go deeper-as a river with banks runs deeper than a flood plain. But with God in his firm and proper place, the pain need not spread out into the endless spaces of ultimate meaning. This is a great blessing, though at the time it may simply feel no more tender than a brick wall. But what a precious wall it is!

As a father, I want to help our twelve-year-old daughter Talitha settle some things with God now, so that when little or big losses come-and they will come-her pain will be bounded and will not carry her out, like a riptide, into the terrifying darkness of doubt about God. So as we read God's word together twice a day, I point out the mysterious ways of God.

Two days ago, we read this from the lips of Jesus to the church at Smyrna in Revelation 2:10:

Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.

I asked Talitha, "Is Jesus stronger than the devil?" "Yes," she said. Indeed, I added, ten million times stronger. It's not even close. In fact, as Mark 1:27 says, "He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him." So all Jesus has to do is say to the devil, "You shall not throw my loved ones into prison," and the devil will not be able to do it. Right, Talitha? Right.

So, Talitha, why does Jesus let the devil do this? Why does he let the devil throw his precious followers in jail and even kill some of them? She shook her head. I said, well, let's read it again slowly, and you tell me the reason that the Bible gives. Slowly, "Behold the devil is about to throw some of you into prison . . . that . . . you . . . may . . . be . . . tested." So why does Jesus let this happen, Talitha? "That they may be tested." That's right.

And what is being tested? The answer is given in the way Jesus describes what passing the test looks like. He says, "Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life." Faithfulness to Jesus is being tested. Will his loved ones keep trusting him? Will they keep believing that he has their best interest at heart? That he is wise? That he is good? That he is stronger than all?

So, Talitha, there are a thousand things that God is doing every time something painful happens to you. Most of these you do not know or understand. Job, Joseph, and Esther did not know what God was doing in their losses. But there is always one thing you can know God is doing when pain comes into your life. This is something you can settle with God ahead of time. He is always testing you.

If the test leads to your death, as it did for some of the Christians in Smyrna, Jesus wants you to know something ahead of time. "You will receive the crown of life." That means he will raise you from the dead and will crown you with the kind of everlasting joy in his presence that will make up for your loses ten-thousand-fold. "Crown" signifies majestic, royal restoration and exaltation.

James says the same thing:

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.

Passing the test means loving God to the end.

So settle it, Talitha. Loss and pain are coming into your life, but Jesus is infinitely stronger than the devil. So even if the devil is causing it, as he did in Smyrna, Jesus is letting it happen. And he always has his reasons-more than we can know. One of those reasons is always testing, namely, the testing of our faith and our love for him.

We cannot answer every why question. But there is always this answer: My faith is being tested. And our Lord never wastes his tests. Whether we believe this truth is, in fact, part of the test. In the mind of Jesus, the promise that he would give them the crown of life was enough to sustain the Christians in Smyrna. I pray that it will be enough for Talitha-and for you.

Trusting the wisdom and goodness of Jesus in loss,

Part I:

God is there with You every morning when You wake up, when Your brushing your teeth, squeezing your pimples, combing Your hair, HE is waiting to talk with You, to grow with You , to feed You more.. That is the daily journey with Christ. –Nick Vujicic

What is the most important task or duty of a mother?

… It’s to ‘feed’ her baby. To make sure that her baby has at least something in her tummy.

Every time her baby cries, the first thing on her mind is to provide food.

How much more, how much more the desire in our Heavenly father’s heart to feed us, to give us our daily nourishment when we are hungry for it…

Just stop for a moment, and think about it…

If you are hungry, will HE not feed you??

HOW can HE NOT feed us?? Will HE just wait and watch us, until our cry for GOD’s blessings, revelation or a deeper relationship with HIM die out until our faith in HIM fades away??

And with good things, not dry morsels of stale food HE will feed us… He will fill us with RICH things, things the world can never give us… Heartfelt LOVE, true LOVE, LOVE that will not fade away with time, LOVE that will not say, “I’m bored of this relationship.”, RICH LOVE, real LOVE, that makes HIM give HIMSELF to you completely and not expect back, LOVE that sacrifices all that it has for your sake, LOVE that wants to take care of You like a little baby wrapped in clothing--”He surrounds us with HIS unfailing love. Ps 32:10”, LOVE that is unfailing, He will never ever ever let You go. Even if the world comes to an end, He WILL NOT LET YOU GO. That is not what HE made You for, to just leave you to mind about your own business in life, NO. --“He has plans for You. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. Jer 29:11” Did you know that GOD has dreams for You, for you to be somebody GREAT in life; that one day you would be a mature, beautiful person, worthy of love and respect, touching HIS heart every time HE sees You, that GOD would feel in HIS Heart, “This is my child, my ‘precious’ creation, my little princess, my little prince… who has grown up to be a woman/man after my own Heart. He/She is MY Child.”

There is no one else like you, ever, that HE can be satisfied with anybody else. For HIM you are HIS only child, his everything, if HE loses You even for a single day HE will cry. He will look out for you, because You are his precious child. He cannot exchange You for anything else in the whole world, because you are his precious.

When I was seeking my vision, God gave me a heart for the disabled. Currently I’m still lookin

When I was seeking my vision, God gave me a heart for the disabled. Currently I'm still looking for scholarship to continue my study in Japan. One of the requirements for the scholarship application is research proposal, what you want to study or research in Japan. Somehow I'm getting interested in Human-Computer Interaction, especially in Natural Language and Speech Processing, creating a system to aid the disabled operating the computer. Last week, I shared about it with a cell group brother and he told me about a blind-man who composes online game musics appeared in a TV program. Wow, sounds great! But I've never heard about it before and I don't really bother it.

Two days ago, I was looking for more reference about the disabled for my research proposal, and I found
that blind-man! His name is Eko Ramaditya. Surprisingly, he has a blog! He uses a screen reader software to use the computer. I read about his life and his works. I'm really impressed. A blind-man like him could compose such great musics. Even he is recruited by Nintendo (yes, that famous game company!) to compose for their games in Nintendo Wii. WOW!!

Then I remember about a man named Nick Vujicic. He was born without arms and legs. But he didn't give up. He has a strong will to live. Maybe you think such a person won't be able to do anything. You're wrong. He can brush his hair, brush his teeth, and he can also swim! I see a video of his sermon, he said that although he has no arms or legs, but God's grace is enough for him. He knows that whatever happened to him, God knows what He is doing, there will be glory in the end. WOW!!!
You can see his video here.

Many times in people's life, including us maybe, can't see the God's grace working through things happened. We often blame God for bad things happened in our life. How bad is it?? Is it worse than Rama or Nick?? We still have eyes to see, arms and legs to do many things perfectly, but many times we can't appreciate it! We have to see God's grace in our life. He knows what He is doing. No matter how bad things happen in your life, God has a purpose in it, it will be for good. The key is by loving your God!

Romans 8:28 - "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."

I just saw this week's TV show for the Joni and Friends ministry and the feature this week was Nick Vujicic. Nick was born without limbs and has become a living testimony to the power of hope in the midst of a difficult life.

Nick is now 25 and is traveling the world to tell others about Christ. He says "Traveling extensively to over 19 nations, I've been extremely humbled by the continuous opportunities that the Lord has given me to share my testimony along with the hope that I have in Jesus with people in so many nations and situations. My greatest joy in this life is to introduce Jesus to those I meet and tell them of His great desire to get to know them personally by allowing Him to become their Lord and Savior. One of my favorite scriptures from the Bible is Psalm 139:17-18 that says, "How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand.”

Be sure an watch the video below and visit his website www.lifewithoutlimbs.org. Nick is also going to be featured on ABC's 20/20 this coming Friday, March 28th at 10pm ET, be sure to tune in and tell others that need to hear of the power of Christ. Pray that his message would reach to the heart of those that are considering aborting a baby diagnosed with a disability, those that are struggling with disabilities of all kinds, and those that don't value the precious disabled people in this world. They are truly God's gift to us to inspire us and encourage us by their faith and strength in Christ alone.

About Nick Vujicic

A Remarkable Story of God's GraceIt says in James 1:2 - "Consider it pure joy, my Brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds."

....To count our hurt, pain and struggle as nothing but pure joy? As my parents were Christians, and my Dad even a Pastor of our church, they knew that verse very well. However, on the morning of the 4th of December 1982 in Melbourne (Australia), the last two words on the minds of my parents was "Praise God!". Their firstborn son had been born without limbs! There were no warnings or time to prepare themselves for it. The doctors were shocked and had no answers at all!

The whole church mourned over my birth and my parents were absolutely devastated. "If God is a God of Love, then why would He let something this happen? especially to dedicated Christians" My Dad thought I wouldn't survive for very long, but tests proved that I was a healthy baby boy just with a few limbs missing.

Understandably, my parents had strong concern and evident fears of what kind of life I'd be able to lead. The first big hurdle was for my parents to be at peace and trusting that God was in control. It took a number of months of tears, questions and grief before coming to term within their own hearts. God provided them strength, wisdom and courage through those early years and soon after that I was old enough to go to school.

I liked going to school, and try to live life like everyone else, but it was in my early years of school where I encountered uncomfortable times of feeling rejected, weird and bullied because of my physical difference. It was very hard for me to get used to, but with the support of my parents, I started to develop attitudes and values which helped me overcome these challenging times. I knew that I was different but on the inside I was just like everyone else. There were many times when I felt so low that I wouldn't go to school just so I didn't have to face all the negative attention. I was encouraged by my parents to ignore them and to try start making friends by just talking with some kids. Soon the students realized that I was just like them, and starting there God kept on blessing me with new friends.

There were times when I felt depressed and angry because I couldn't change the way I was, or blame anyone for that matter. I went to Sunday School and learned that God loves us all and that He cares for you. I understood that love to a point as a child, but I didn't understand that if God loved me why did He make me like this? Is it because I did something wrong? I thought I must have because out of all the kids at school, I'm the only weird one. I felt like I was a burden to those around me and the sooner I go, the better it'd be for everyone. I wanted to end my pain and end my life at a young age, but I am thankful once again, for my parents and family who were always there to comfort me and give me strength.

Due to my emotional struggles I had experienced with bullying, self esteem and loneliness, God has implanted a passion of sharing my story and experiences to help others cope with whatever challenge they have in their life and let God turn it into a blessing. To encourage and inspire others to live to their fullest potential and not let anything get in the way of accomplishing their hopes and dreams.

As I grew older God continued to prepare my heart and teach me to seek Him. One of the first lessons that I have learned was not to take things for granted. I had that wake up call around the age of twelve and realized just how much I was blessed with. I take my foot for granted, my family and all blessings that God had freely given and I still complain? I came across;

Romans 8:28 - "And we know that in all things God works for the best for those who love Him."

That verse spoke to my heart and convicted me to the point where that I know that there is no such thing as luck, chance or coincidence that these "bad" things happen in our life. In;

James 1:3&4 - "...know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

I had complete peace knowing that God won't let anything happen to us in our life unless He has a good purpose for it all. I completely gave my life to Christ at the age of fifteen after reading John 9. Jesus said that the reason the man was born blind was "so that the works of God may be revealed through Him." I truly believed that God would heal me so I could be a great testimony of His Awesome Power. Later on I was given the wisdom to understand that if we pray for something, if it's God's will, it'll happen in His time. If it's not God's will for it to happen, then I know that He has something better. I now see that Glory revealed as He is using me just the way I am and in ways others can't be used.

I am now twenty-four years old and have completed a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Financial Planning and Accounting. I am also a motivational speaker and love to go out and share my story and testimony wherever opportunities become available. I have developed talks to relate to and encourage students through topics that challenge today's teenagers. I am also a speaker in the corporate sector. For more information on Nick's presentations go to "Nick's Ministry".

In recent years, I have learned to become independent and can now take care of all my personal needs. I can do everything from brushing my teeth, combing my hair, dressing up, taking care of my personal hygiene and even shaving. I get around the house by jumpin' around and, outside the house, I get around in an electric wheelchair. I love to swim, fish and play soccer. I have a passion for reaching out to youth and keep myself available for whatever God wants me to do, and wherever He leads, I follow.

I have many dreams and goals that I have set to achieve in my life. I want to become the best witness I can be of God's Love and Hope, to become an international inspirational speaker and be used as a vessel in both Christian and non-Christian venues. I want to become financially independent by the age of 25, through real estate investments, to modify a car for me to drive and to be interviewed and share my story on the "Oprah Winfrey Show"! Writing several best-selling books has been one of my dreams and I hope to finish writing my first by the end of the year. It will be called "No Arms, No Legs, No Worries!"

You might think these goals are too far-fetched. However, I believe that if you have the desire and passion to do something, and if it's God's will, you will achieve it in good time. As humans, we continually put limits on ourselves for no reason at all! What's worse is putting limits on God who can do all things. We put God in a "box". The awesome thing about the Power of God, is that if we want to do something for God, instead of focusing on our capability, concentrate on our availability for we know that it is God through us and we can't do anything without Him. Once we make ourselves available for God's work, guess whose capabilities we rely on? God's!

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13

God has a Great Purpose for your life! As far as your unanswered prayers, remember that God is Faithful. What are we to do when we are seeking but not finding?

Jeremiah 29:12 - "Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the Lord...

Take courage my friend for the Battle is the Lord's and I urge you to keep striving for the truth. For it is the truth that will set you free and the Peace of God that surpasses all understanding will reign in your heart. May the Lord Bless you as you diligently seek Him and grant you Godly Wisdom and Strength through your journey.

On Saturday 8 December, an estimated 300 people attended the Nick Vujicic event our Church held at Hannah Watts Park. We were blessed with an awesome day in regards to the weather and many families took part in the Family Fun Day at 3.00pm. We gave out hundreds of sausages and kids had their faces painted and participated in all kinds of games.

At 7.15pm, Nick Vujicic took to the stage and shared about his life and his faith in Jesus. To have Nick in Melton is truly a blessing as this guy has traveled the world and spoken to over 2 million people! He gets 1,400 invites to speak a year! If he said yes to all of them, he would be doing almost 4 presentations, 7 days a week for a whole year!

And yet Nick felt called to visit Melton and spend some time with friends and the people of Melton. And the people of Melton, and beyond, responded to him in an awesome way. One of Nick's most likable attributes is the fact that he LOVES hugs! I know it might seem a little ironic that a guy with no limbs loves to give and receive hugs, but if you have the pleasure of giving Nick a hug, you know that it's not taken for granted.

After Nick's presentation, the hugs flowed for almost 2 hours and went into the night. Most of this was captured on film and I have put together the following clip for you to enjoy. Nick says he is a "self confessed hugging machine". The following video proves it!
