Kun 23 procent betaler for servicen.

Her kræver det typisk professionel hjælp.

In the meeting I had today with Rob and Dan discussing some TGM business we discussed whether we ought to take the new show we're working on to a live stream. Some of our Affiliates are all for the idea of a 24/7 live stream where archived podcasts, music and other media plays constantly. Some of us aren't too keen on that idea, bringing in a pretty good debate.

Well, the debate went over to my Friend Feed with this post; “Alright, we're in a debate here. Is live streaming a good idea or is new media really going to way of "get it when you want it" which negates putting archived media on a live streaming server? Opinions!” . The replies have been staggering.

Obviously, there is still a place for live shows on the internet. Now, I could get into a completely different discussion I recently had on the TWiT forums on why internet radio isn't dead but, we'll save that for another post. I don't even view internet radio (all music) and, live streaming media in the same boat. What we're talking about here is streaming live while doing a podcast or something similar.

I am of this school of thought "If it goes on my iPod, I'm happy." I'm always mobile. Whether it's my phone, the 5 other gadgets I carry with me or, my laptop. Do I really want to schedule my time around a favorite show just because it's live? Of course not. Heck, my own boyfriend is a DJ and I can't even catch his show live all the time. I like the fact that every show I listen to is archived. I can listen to it when I want. If I need to pause and go back to it, I can. It's so much easier that way.

Then, there's the other side of things. I did a live radio show once upon a time. I do remember how much fun live participation is. I also remember how much fun the interaction and impromptu segments can be. However, I noticed a lot of my archive listeners didn't quite understand some of the live aspects. So, I ended up cutting those parts out of the show.

As time has gone on, more live streaming services I know of are beginning to go silent. Their live shows are becoming more impromptu. The hosts are just putting out tweets (or what have you) and saying "Hey we're live". If people show up, great. If they don't, no big deal because, they are counting more on the people who listen to their archives.

It seems like more and more people are wanting to get media "when I want it" and, not having to schedule things around shows. However, if they happen to be online when a favorite host goes live, they enjoy the interaction very much.

Will TGM be going live? Not anytime soon. All of our podcasts are available on the site via the flash player. All of the blogs are available with just a click of the button. We really have no reason to play all the archived music and podcasts on a live stream then schedule live shows. The current format is working rather well at the moment.

If you want my opinion, I have a feeling I'll be live again soon (and Rob and Dan) but, I have a feeling we're going to do the same thing many others are doing. We'll put out the tweets, broadcast to Friend Feed (and any other network) we're live. We'll have a good time with the live show and archive it. But, we'll depend a bit more on the people who keep us a part of their busy and mobile schedule.

There’s been a sub-kerfuffle off the whole is Indie film dead discussion, on whether festivals

There's been a sub-kerfuffle off the whole is Indie film dead discussion, on whether festivals like Sundance even matter anymore?

First let give disclosure -- I am largely a festival outsider. I've been to SXSW, but mostly as a part of their Interactive section. I've never been to Sundance, Cannes, or Berlin. I did submit to the Thunderbird Film Festival years ago and my short film Internet Addiction screened there.

I like Robert Rodriguez's thinking on this subject (paraphrasing from Rebel Without a Crew). Basically festivals are a good barometer of how you're doing as a filmmaker. If your films are getting accepted to multiple festivals and you're winning those festivals. That's probably a pretty good sign that you are ready to start your career.

The problem is that the festival circuit is often mistaken for a career. Once you are on it, it can be hard to get off it. It's like those folks that never really graduate from school. Sure, school is a good time, you meet a lot of cool peeps, learn some stuff. But eventually you become Matthew McConaughey in Dazed and Confused.

So to extend this school metaphor even further, there are good schools (Sundance) and other schools (every other film festival), both give you an education, but good schools gets you something extra -- pedigree.

Pedigree is nice to have. It makes you feel warm and cozy at night, and gives people with money a reason to take a meeting with you (she was a winner at Sundance!), but it doesn't necessarily get you a job.

Festivals are just like school in another key way -- some people deserve to be there and some people don't but got there through connections and money.

Why do I keep saying the festival circuit is not a career? I've just spoken to many festival darlings that have gone everywhere with their film, but at the end they were no better off than when they started. They've seen the world (usually on their own dime), which is awesome, but their goal of becoming an enduring filmmaker has not been furthered because they didn't have enough time to write or put together their next project.

Awards are the bastard cousin of festivals. Most organizations give out awards live off of the entrance fees that prospective winners send along with their applications (which is the same in the festival world). They take your money and only give the awards to the pool of entrants. Which means you can only win if you throw your own hat (and check) into the ring [the notable exception was the YouTube award, they nominated us and there was no entrance fee].

I've won my fair share of awards, some very high profile, but none of them have ever gotten me a gig. They are just like festivals, they can open the door a crack, but you have to deliver in the room. I can only imagine it's the same at every level -- even the Academy Awards (Michael Cimino anyone?) [and sure I know it gets you a ton of buzz, etc. but listen to this podcast by a shrink who's worked with Oscar winners].

I view awards as a karmic thumbs up that I'm going in the right direction. Nothing more, nothing less.

They can be a good PR boost for you and your project, but that is fleeting.

But please remember, the pursuit of these awards and festivals should not be your primary goal. The best thing about festivals and awards is that they have concrete deadlines, which can really spur you on as an artist. I know I am much better with a deadline looming than I am with day to day responsibilities, and I know a lot of you are like me too.

Festivals and awards are neither good or bad. They are what you make of them. Just keep perspective, don't pin all of your hopes and dreams on any particular pludit or statue and keep making your films.

(Not that blogging isn't always relatively light as I seem to be forever battling to average just one post a week. The Joe Wikerts of the world who can be as high up the food chain as they are and still blog as much as they do will never cease to amaze me.) Anyway, it's time for the annual pilgrimage to the beach to gain some perspective on the size of the world (and the relative insignificance of any one individual) by staring at the ocean for days on end.

Before leaving, however, I did want to welcome the newest member of the TSTC Publishing team: Lindsey Springer.

Lindsey started on July 1 and will be handling sales and marketing for us. This is all part of the reorganization we've been undergoing the last couple of months. First, we've moved away from having two full-time production people in the office---an editor as well as a graphics specialist---to having a project manager (Grace Arsiaga) oversee editorial and graphics freelancers to do most of the production work. So now we're able to use that freed-up full-time slot for a marketing/sales person.

Lindsey comes to us having taught English (and coached volleyball and softball) for the last four years after receiving her mass communications degree from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. She's also got a history of newspaper work and has been doing independent marketing consulting as well. Now that we've developed our list of books and have a good handle on the titles/series we're working on this next year, we're looking forward to working with her to get our sales to the next level. I'm sure you'll begin hearing from Lindsey on the blog after she gets settled in---did I mention how difficult it is for one person to keep this thing going on a regular basis?---as she keeps us all posted on what's going on in her area.

I twittered earlier today that I was suffering from multiple personalities disorder. The fact that I said twittering has probably already confused some people who are not connected to the idea of microblogging is irrelevant! HA!

OK, mom and pop, I'm talking about a bunch of different ways people connect--from blogging, which is what I'm doing here, to microblogging, think of Big Brother in reverse-- a webite where I post a sentence that tells people what I am doing, or thinking, or planning to do.

As a resource, it's pretty interesting and useful. Socially, it's like passing a note in class--but for work, and some of the creative stuff I like to do, it's pretty useful. For example, once I post this, I'll let my friends in other networks know that I did, and hopefully, they'll come to this blog and read my stuff, maybe leave comment or two, which will then take me to their sites so I can see what they are doing. Cool, huh?

At the Digital Strategy Meeting run by IBDG at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel last week, Richard Mound, Associate Partner for Collaborative Innovation and Social Networking within IBM Global Business Services took the stage. He showed a continuum from the early 1990's to the present day indicating the collaborative capabilities of their business. A truly fascinating presentation that would put many companies (my own included) in the late 1990's/very early 2000's!
In a previous post on this blog, I challenged marketers that with the current pace of change, they would be potentially unemployable within five or so years. But if there is really such a difference between a successful medium sized company and IBM in the year 2008, over what timescales are the changes in communication really going to become an issue to the majority of marketers and communicators who don't keep abreast of new developments?

In the July issue of the Ensign and Liahona magazines (official magazines for adult members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), Church leaders are encouraging members to make use of 'new media' in helping to publicise the Church.

The issue of Church members using blogs, comments on news stories, media sharing sites and other forms of communicatory media has received massive attention since a graduation ceremony address to Brigham Young University-Hawaii students by Elder M. Russel Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

In his statement, he urged students to 'join the conversation by participating on the Internet to share the gospel and to explain in simple and clear terms the message of the Restoration'.

But Elder Ballard warned that heated arguments about our and others' beliefs must be avoided, as 'contention is of the devil.'

His talk has now been published in this month's edition of Ensign and Liahona, increasing the scope of his counsel to the entire adult membership of the Church.

Clearly, Elder Ballard was not speaking for himself, but this admonition is coming from the Church leadership and bearing one's testimony seems to be one of the things the leaders want us to do: 'Most of you already know that if you have access to the Internet you can start a blog in minutes and begin sharing what you know to be true.'

Leaders also wish members to prudently respond to incorrect reporting and questions posed by non-members.

The Church's Newsroom site (newsroom.lds.org) has added features which help members to become blogging news agents. They give members rights to use information from the Newsroom:

'Newsroom.lds.org is the Church's official Website for the news media, opinion leaders and the public, including bloggers and others using new media. The Newsroom Website is a great resource to find content that you can reuse in your own blog, video, social networking page, etc.'

And Church members will doubtless begin heeding their leaders' words.

I bet that right now, there are many proven executives and marketplace leaders across the body of Ch

I bet that right now, there are many proven executives and marketplace leaders across the body of Christ who could gain a large new media audience in short order. Could pastors do more to encourage them to do this? I wonder if just a nudge in the right direction wouldn't make a big difference.

From my experience, pastors are constantly wrestling with how to "do evangelism" in their churches. I see a compelling opportunity in training members to carefully consider how the Lord wants to use their positions of influence in the marketplace to more fully magnify Christ.

There are countless ways that this could happen. I am grateful for the efforts of groups like MarketplaceOne, Strategic Christian Services, Workforce Ministries, and the new Marketplace Ambassadors program in my own church. I know there are many other such groups. I have found no group that I can see is the best example. I think we are in the early stages of this growing area of emphasis. I hope every church will see this as an area of ministry worth considering.

Gospel-centered marketplace training recognizes there should be something substantively different about a Christian in the workplace. One example of the gospel's impact on the Christian's life and work is harmony between our personal and professional lives. When we allow the gospel of Christ to define all our thought and action, we come to experience the deep, God-intended harmony between these often rivaling areas which always want more of our time. It takes time. But this subjective experience points to the objective fact of Christ's reign over all our lives. Christ Sovereignly puts the pieces together to make Himself known through us. This is true of all believers, and it should sober us and spur more faithful obedience.

What person in the marketplace does not want to make a lasting difference for good in this world, and to do so with a clear harmony between their personal and professional lives? In the Christian message, we have an answer for this. When the gospel is at the center of one's life, one can work knowing that Christ is eager to bless our work with fruit as we work (Galatians 6:7-9).

The Risen Christ not only governs all our lives, but all of life. So the big problems across companies and industries need the wisdom of Scipture rightly applied, if they are going to be solved decisively. Much of the best of Western history reflects this.

New media has given us an opportunity for compelling thought leadership in the marketplace. As we learn to translate the wisdom of God from Scripture into practical solutions in the workplace, we will be earning a greater platform of credibility from which to connect that practical solution back to the Big Solution--God reconciling sinners to Himself through Christ.

In this way, blogs and other forms of new media complement a proven example of success at work. In this way, they allow us to "go offline" and bring others into our lives outside the busy swirl of the workday. In this environment, it is more appropriate and perhaps even more persuasive to describe how we are submitting the problems we are facing at work to Christ and His Word each day. As He blesses our work, it will validate what we are saying online.

There are many ways to approach this, as many ways as there are people. But I believe this kind of show-and-tell may be one of the best opportunities afforded by new media, or more specifically, by blogging. This will take real wisdom and courage, and for Americans who have been given freedom of speech as a national heritage, moving forward in this way shows honor and thanks to those who paid in blood for our freedoms.

There are many facets to the gospel. Fundamentally, though, John Stott describes it as divine love conquering divine justice through divine self-sacrifice. God--who is too holy to have a relationship with us because of our sinful rejection of Him--freely chose to send His own Son to pay for our sins against Him, to give sinners like me and you a way to be reconciled to Him as our Father. The Cross of Jesus Christ is where God the Father poured out His wrath against sin, directing it against the person on Jesus Christ. Jesus took this wrath "for the joy that was set before Him," which includes the redemption of a people who would trust in Christ and be adopted into God's family forever.

These truths and their implications provide the greatest source of wisdom for solving the problems we face at work each day. This is our God-given heritage. It is revealed exclusively in Scripture. It would be poor stewardship to think it applies only to "personal" areas of faith and practice. These truths apply to all of life and all areas of the marketplace.
