Cnet.com has compiled the SAR ratings of Nokia phones.

According to the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA), specific absorption rate, or SAR, is "a way of measuring the quantity of radiofrequency (RF) energy that is absorbed by the body." For a phone to pass FCC certification, that phone's maximum SAR level must be less than 1.6W/kg (watts per kilogram). In Europe, the level is capped at 2W/kg while Canada allows a maximum of 1.6W/kg. The SAR level listed in our charts represents the highest SAR level with the phone next to the ear as tested by the FCC. Keep in mind that it is possible for the SAR level to vary between different transmission bands and that different testing bodies can obtain different results. Also, it's possible for results to vary between different editions of the same phone (such as a handset that's offered by multiple carriers).

Majority of the Nokia phones that I've seen or used are made in China...

Pic source

Why? Hmmmm.. That's easy to answer.. Low cost of production.

The N95 and N78 that I reviewed are both Made in China - even if they came all the way from London. My Nokia N82 is also made in China. I went to some stores selling Nokia phones and checked where it was manufactured and all 6 phones - yes all - are made from china.

Is this a cause of alarm for consumers? Or is it something to be happy about?

Why be alarmed? Fake mobile phones are mostly (if not all) manufactured from China. And now it's commonly known as China phones.

So the question, are we sure that we're getting the real Nokia Phone? =p And also, how is the quality compared to those made in other countries?

I posted an article about knowing where your nokia mobile phone is made. It says there that if your phone is manufactured in Germany, its of good quality. If it was assembled in Azerbaijan then it has very Bad quality and also dangerous for your health. Now it says there "original factory which is the best Mobile Quality". Hmmm.. i wonder where is the original factory.. Maybe its in CHINA!

Now why should we be happy about it being made in China?

Well, if the production cost is lower and higher production output - more units, then Nokia MAY - I repeat.. MAY - lower down the selling price of their units. And i think that's what they are doing right now. Their phones are cheaper nowadays than last year or two years ago. Compare the price of a Newly released mobile phone 2 years ago and today. isn't it much cheaper? It will rarely hit the 30k price tag.

So, is it the QUALITY or the PRICE?

Well, maybe we're having both.. Maybe because nokia is a big company and they don't want to sacrifice their name for low quality results, they've put a high level of quality control for their products. Well, if i was the head of the Company, that's what i would do... I can't afford to loose the market for giving out cheap and low quality products right? I can sell it cheap.. but the quality should be, at least within the standards.

For those of you who will be buying a new phone, is it OK if its made from China? Or for those who have already bought a new phone, is it made from China? If its not, I'm sure you've gotten it higher than the normal price. If it is... are you happy with it?

If you'll ask me... I've been having some problems with my N82. Its getting slow and sometimes it freezes when i receive a text messages that it vibrates non-stop and keeps on buzzzing... What I do is i'll turn it off and on. maybe its because of the firmware. But... then again.. its made in China! Maybe i was given this unit. hahahahha

But I haven't brought it yet to a Nokia Service center.. I don't have a spare phone yet. =p

I bought my dream phone a couple of days ago. It’s the cheapest I can find in the market. I had a hard time looking for one because I wanted the Black edition which is still quite limited.

The beauty of the N82 would be best appreciated on the inside – it’s rich features - rather than its physical appearance. You won’t be wowed by the looks of this Nseries device from Nokia. It’s a normal candy bar phone with a 2.4 inch screen and a small keypad. The two stereo speakers are on the right side. The most priced possession of the N82 lies at its rear, the 5.0 mega pixel camera with Carl Zeiss Optics and Tessar® lens accompanied by a Xenon flash and AF assist lamp (which illuminates objects in the dark and helps the camera to adjust automatically for better images). And because of this, the N82 is the phone to beat on almost all website reviews that I have read.

Thought most of the features of the N82 are the same with other Nseries devices such as the N81 and N95, it is believed that Nokia made the N82 to repackage the features and appeal to a different market – maybe those that are not happy with a slider phone or those that does not want a bulky mobile phone.

Aside from the great camera that the N82 has, another difference with its 5 mega pixel competitors is the price. The N95 is slightly more expensive while the LG Viewty is priced P3,000 to P5,000 higher.

The N82 is a quad band phone which makes it an ideal phone to bring any where in the world. Plus it is HSDPA – 3.5G (as opposed to 3G – 3.0) along with GPS and EDGE. This means faster connection when you surf the Internet or better video reception during 3G video calls. Speaking of Internet, this gadget is Wi-Fi capable which lets you access the web faster anywhere there is a Wi-Fi hotspot. The built in browser is dynamic and enables you to view web pages as they are seen on a normal computer screen. Other connectivity options include Bluetooth, USB 2.0 via the mini USB port, a 3.5 mm stereo headphones output and TV out function.

As a portable multimedia, the N82 you can put supported audio, video, and image files into its 100 mb shared internal memory or on its 2 GB microSD memory. But if you think that’s not enough, you can replace it with a microSDHC memory card (currently maximum of 8GB available in the market).

Meanwhile, there are other not so used features of this mobile phone. Such as the Assisted Global Positioning System (A-GPS) function and Push-to-talk which makes your mobile phone act like a two way radio. Who knows, we might be able to use these by year 2010.

With a size of 112 x 50 x 17 mm and weights 114g, this feature packed mobile phone will definitely fit your needs and wants.

My review of my very own Nokia N82 shall be posted over at Migs Mobile Network [www.migsmobile.net]
